This is my first story. Been working on this for a few weeks. At night though, the only time I can work on it. I think I can do better. (Gulps) Please don't go easy on me. Ok here it goes. If it is any good I might make it a series, only if people say it's good. Please post anything about it.

Sorrow And Joy

Prologue

Kyler get up! We're going to be late for school."

Kyler moaned and rolled over in his small bed. "I don't wanna." He told the voice. He hated being woken up this early in the morning. "Get up or you gonna get wet!." The voice insisted. Kyler moaned again and curled back into a ball. Suddenly he was splashed with an icy liquid. He jumped up gasping and yelled towards the figure in the doorway.

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR!"

In the doorway stood a red-haired human female carrying a bucket. She chuckled. "Well. I told you that you were gonna get wet." He glared at her. "Awww are you upset because I made you wake up with a little cold water." She mocked. He walked over to her and shook himself, drenching her in water. "Hey! What was that for?" She shouted. "Oh I'm sorry, did I get you wet?" He smiled at her innocently.

She looked down into his light blue eyes and smiled. "Yeah. Now lets go, todays friday and I can't be late graduation." She said, empasising on graduation. Kyler looked up. "What! Todays graduation, and your letting me sleep the day away?" Hardly containing the excitment in his voice. He began to shaking. "Hey buddy whats wrong?" She asked, her voice filled with concern.

He quit shaking and took a few deep breaths."I'am okay. It's just today we finally get to leave that boring place and travel around the world!" He looked up at her. She could see the excitment in his eyes. She shook her head for a moment and looked back at the eevee. "Hold on a sec. We still have to head to school first and get our license." Kyler jumped in readyness. "Right, we should get going th-"

*Rowr*

Diane raised a eyebrow at the embaressed eevee. "Maybe we should get a bite to eat first?" Kyler looked up from his stomach.

"Ya think?"

She gave a slight chuckle and walked through the doorway into the kitchen with her pokemon right behind her.

It was like any other kitchen, a table was at the center with five chairs forming a ring around it, one had a blue jacket drapped on the back. On the far end opposite of the doorway, was a counter, caboards, drawers, and a sink. On the left side was another doorway the led outside. On the right was a shelf that had many small objects, in the center of it was a picture of three humans and a eevee. On the bottom righthand side of the picture was a signature saying Mom, Dad, Diane, and Kyler our newest family member. Feburary 16.

On the center of the table sat a wallet, bag, and a box with a picture of the sun and a valley reading Silph Co. Energy Bars For People And Pokemon. Diane grabbed the box on the table and opened it, pulling out two small bars. Ripping the covers of them she knelt down she put one in front of Kyler before taking a bite of hers.

Turning around and grabbing her favorite blue jacket of the back of the chair and all the items on the table. Looking back towards him, she wasn't suprised to see the breakfast bar already gone.

"Some day your going to get a sore stomach from wolfing down your food."

He licked the crumbs off his face. "I'll start to care when that happens, now come on lets go!" She sighed and put on her jacket. "Right, I'll eat on the way there." She went over to the cubourds and opened them.

Kyler watched her reach inside and pull a few items out and stuff them into the bag. Taking one last look at her lifelong home she let out a small sigh. Her eyes moving from left to right looking at each objects, each one telling the same story but from different perpectives. She turned and smiled at her faithful companion.

He knew what she meant with that smile. They were leaving after graduation, leaving everything and everyone until they were stronger. Until they had forfilled their promise. Nodding to him Diane turned around and headed to the front door. She looked at the doorknob on last time and grapped it. Turning the knob and pushed it open. Suddenly she felt something run past her, looking down the drive way she saw the small pokemon heading for town, leaving a trail of dust in its wake.

Diane sprinted to catch up with the small but agile eevee. Soon they were running side by side, the dirt flying beneath their feet. After a few minutes the dirt turned to concrete as they neared Jubilife. They ran down the semi busy street, passing people and pokemon as they sighted their first marker. The local pokemon center, near the edge of town. It was there so that passing trainers wouldn't have to wonder around searching for it, and it served as a marker for the local trainer school students. A large truck with a red cross sat in front of the center. Two men in brown suits were loading the truck with boxes.

The double sliding doors opened and Nurse Joy walked through carrying several small boxes. She walked over to the truck trying to keep the boxes from falling. She stepped off the curb and into a small puddle and slipped.

"Wha-!" She screamed as she fell backwards, only to fall into someones outstreched arms. Looking up she saw Diane smiling at her. "Good morning Nurse Joy. You should really watch out for puddles."

Nurse Joy smiled up at her neice. Diane help her aunt to her feet and gather the fallen boxes and hand them to the delivery men. Who thanked them and after making sure all the boxes were there they got in the cab of the truck and left. Diane, Kyler, and Nurse Joy watched the truck drive down the road and turn right heading towards Oreburgh.

After watching the truck leave Diane turned to her aunt.

"Hey aunt Joy. What was in those boxes?"

Joy wiped the dust of her apron and reajusted her hat. "Those boxes are filled with medical supplies for the Oreburgh mining crew. There was a cave in a few hours ago and all the hospitals and centers are sending medical supplies and personel. I would of went but I have to tend to the pokemon center." She lent out a small sigh before walking towards the double doors. Stopping in front of them, she looked back at Diane. "I've just remembered I have something for you from your mother."

Diane's eyes light up at the metion of her mother. "What? Something from my mother? Really?" Nurse Joy nodded and reached into one of the pockets on her apron and pulled out a small locket and a red and white ball. Silently she walked over and placed them both in Diane's open hands. "It once belonged to you mother. She wanted you to have that when you graduated." Diane stared at the small golden heart shaped locket. Then she turned her attention to the pokeball in her other hand.

"It was her first pokeball. It once contained her first pokemon, a growlithe named Scorch remember?"

She looked up, her mouth opened wide.

"This was Scorch's pokeball! I thought mom had it buried with him."

Nurse Joy shook her head.

"No... she gave it to me for safe keeping, and to give it to you for Kyler so you didn't have to spend two-hundred at the pokemart."

Tears filled her eyes as she embraced her aunt. Nurse Joy patted her on the back of the head.

"Thank you aunt Joy *Sniff* Thank you so much."

Nurse Joy hugged her neice for a few moments before breaking the embrace. She moved her nieces red-pink hair out of her eyes. They were quite for a few moments. She looked back to the pokemon center and then back to Diane and smiled.

"You better get to class before graduation. I'll be there don't worry, I promised your mother I'll look after you and so would all your other aunts."

Diane smiled and turned to Kyler who was sitting on the pavement watching them the entire time. Knelling down she held out the pokeball towards him. He sniffed it and pressed the button with his nose. He evaporated as a red light shot out and pulled him into the ball. She watched it shake for a few seconds before stittng still and making a small Bleep.

Standing up she threw the pokeball shouting. "All right Kyer lets go!" Kyler appeared and shook himself. He let out a small "Eevee". She couldn't help but laugh at the little pokemon.

"First time is always the weirdist buddy."

She looked at her watched and gasped. "Oh Mew! It's nearly 8:30 we have to get going." She said to goodbye and took of towards the other side of the street.

A large brown building towered over the landscape next to the Pokemon Center. It had with a black roof with a bell tower at the top and a large fenced off area next to it. A large sign was in front reading Jubilife Trainer School. The First Steps To Becoming A Better Trainer.

*Bong* *Bong*

"Aww SHIT!" We're so late."

Kyler looked up at her, it was common for her to curse but not this early in the morning. They ran up the stone steps and through the frontdoors and down the brownish-red hallway. They stopped in front of one of the doors that read Room 5, Mr. Lopa.

Panting heavily, Diane reached for the doorknob but stopped, she stared at the doorknob, her hand shaking. She had a strange feeling that something bad was going to happen if she opened the door. Suddenly she felt something tugging her pant leg. Looking down she saw Kyler tugging at her pant leg with his teeth.

"Sorry buddy...I was distracted for a second."

Kyler nudged her leg and let out a small vee of anticipation. She closed her eye's and took a deep breath. Exhaling slowly she grabbed the doorknob and turned it slowly till she heard a small *Click* and pushed the door open.

A small, heavy set man was standing if front of a blackboard facing the class. Seeing the door open, he called out in a loud brass voice. "Miss Diane, if you want to graduate, you should get to class on time." Diane looked down as she slowly walked through and made her way down the stairs to her seat, Kyler followed her and sat next to her chair and yawned. She reached down and started scratching between his ears, so that he would stay awake for once.

"Ahem. Now back to the subject before miss Diane joined us. Today is graduation."

At the mention of the graduation, the whispers became louder. Raising his voice he continued. "All of you have done well this year. You and your parents should be proud" He looked at Diane and Kyer for a second. Diane could see the sorrow in his eyes as he continued to address the class. " At twelve we will take the class photo and your trainers photo." Waiting for the noise to die down once again he spoke. "Now since you all worked hard this year, today I will allow you to 'hang out'. Take this time to prepare and relax with you pokemon. I will be in the gym, putting on the finishing touches, if you need anything."

With that he walked past them to the door to the hall and left. As soon as he had gone, the students began to get up out of their seats and gathered into groups. Diane didn't leave her seat, she was scared about her photo, and that Mr. Lopa mentioned parents. She cringed when ever someone mentioned that word.

During the entire announcement she scratched Kyler between his ears with one hand, while with the other she held the small locket around her neck that aunt Joy had given her. She looked down at the little eevee, his head was tilted back enjoying the treatment he was getting. It's just you and me now buddy she thought. She was so concentrated on her thoughts that she didn't notice a tall human male walk over to her desk and knell down so that they where eye level.

"Hey, Diane whats up?"

Diane jumped at the sound of his voice. Looking up, she scowled. "Richie! You scared me, how many times do I have to tell you not to do that!" He smiled. "I don't know, how many times are you going to day dream during class?" She kicked his leg. "Gah! What was that for?" He said, rubbing his shin. "Thats for scaring me." She chuckled, and stood up embracing him in a hug. Kyler looked up to see why Diane had stopped, seeing Richie he looked around.

If Richie if here then, she mi-

*Wham*

Kyler was sent rolling into the desk in front of him. He groaned as jumping off his back to face his attacker, only to see another eevee laughing into her paw. "Evy! What was that for!" He yelled. "Oh nothing" She giggled. Sighing, he walked over and sat next to her. He and Evy were best friends since they were little. She and Mich were the only one's that never made fun of his eye color. He looked at her. She was built like every other eevee, brown fur, tail and a light brown collar. He rubbed the back of his head feeling the small bumb there.

He turned and smiled at her."So how are you today?"

She smiled back at him. "I've been fine, I can't wait for gratuation to start."

She turned and looked into his eyes for a second before turning away and asked. "What are you and Diane going to do after you get you license?" Kyler looked back at their trainers for a second before answering. "Well I don't know for sure, but I figure we're going to Johto to start our training with her grandma at Blackthorn city."

Evy looked down as a tear filled her eye. She couldn't believe it after all this time he still wanted to go to Johto. Was our friendship nothing to him or their... She shook her head and let out a small sigh.

"Hey Evy are you okay?"

She looked up to see Kyler staring at her. Quickly rubbed the tear, she lied. "Yeah, my allergies are acting up again."

There was no way he will fall for that she thought.

He looked at her for a moment, then turned back to watch their trainers.

"Maybe you should take some allergy medicine"

She jaw dropped. Did he just say that? Quickly closing her mouth she lifted her paw behind his head. She thought about it for a moment and slowly lowered it.

na... it wouldn't do any good.

She inched a little closer to him till their fur almost touched.

"5...4...3" He counted suddenly. Evy nearly fell backwards. OH CRAP! She thought. Realising he wasn't looking at her, she quickly asked "Why are you counting?" He ignored her and continued. "2...1" As if on cue a loud voice called out.

"Diane, Rich man, hows it hangin!"

A tall male walked over to them. He was dressed in a black sweater, saggy pants and a red hat that was tilted to the side.

Kyler could barley stop himself from laughing, not at the saggy pants male but at the pokemon that followed him. A pikachu sporting the same tilted hat ran over to them and spoke in the same manner. "Yo! Whats up dude and dudet?" Kyler put a paw to his mouth trying to stiffle his laughter. The pikachu tilted his head, staring at him.

Evy sighed. "Mich just ignore him, he'll stop laughing in a moment." She looked up at Diane and Richie, talking to the new arrival.

"Hey Zack, how are you doing?"

"Ya, I'm just chillin. Hey Diane wats up at your eevee?"

Diane looked down to see Kyler covering his mouth. She was about to tell him to stop when Evy decided to stop him herself. She licked his cheek, causing him to stop laughing immeditly and turn red, as if he just ate a spelon berry. Slowly he backed away from her and dropped his ears in embaressment. Realising that Diane was looking at him he glared up at her muttering. "Don't say a word." She just smiled.

"Hey Diane, what he say?"

She looked back to her friends and smiled. "Nothing" Zach reajusted his hat. "Man you are one special case, you know that? I mean talking to pokemon. Are you psychic?" Diane sighed. Not this again how many times do I have to tell them, she thought. "No. I'am not a psychic, I was just born with it, it's happened to people other than me."

Zach still didn't look convinced. "Alright if your not a psychic then prove it. What am I thinking about?" Diane sighed again. Lowering her head, she thought for a moment before anwsering. "Is it taco's?" Zach's eyes widened. "Ha! I knew it. Your a psychic, awsome!" Diane gave him a serious look. "No I'm not a psychic. It's only because thats the only thing you eat!"

Zach looked angerly at her. "Yo, not cool man. Make fun of another dude's favorite food." They argued back and forth. Richie watched them a while and decided it was time to break up the fun. He walked between them and raised his hands. "Look its friday and its graduation." He looked at both of them before he continued. "Remember a long time ago, when we promised that after we graduate we would go our seperate ways, but always stay in contact?" Both Diane and Zach punched his arm. "Of course! How could we forget. Zach's going to be a Pokemon Professer, while I'am going to Johto and challange it's gym's." Diane said as she kicked him in the leg again. "Gah! Why do you keep doing that?" Richie said as he rubbed his shin. Diane shrugged. "No reason." Looking up at the clock that hung over the black board she sighed. "It's almost time for pictures."

Richie looked up at the clock and nodded. Turning to his pokemon and called out. "Evy! we need to get ready!" Evy turned to him and yipped in agreement. Turning back to Kyler and Mich she said her farewells and ran to catch up with her trainer.

Kyler watched them go through the door, and let out a sigh.

"Dude why don't you tell her?"

He turned back to Mich, his arms crossed in front of him. Kyler looked back to the door, to it close before looking back at his remaining friend.

"I can't, I'am just...to nervous to ask."

Mich frowned and thumped his lightning bolt shaped tail. "Dude, who cares if your nervous. Just ask her."

Kyler was starting to get aggitated by Mich's romance advise. "And if I did what then? She's staying here to work on the farm, while I'am going to Johto. It would never work out." He said. Mich began thumping his tail on the floor in anger and sighed. "Dude who cares about a long distance relationship, she likes you and you like her, stop thinking for once and male up. " Kyler thought about it for a moment. He is right about us. But we might never come back, But what happened a few years ago. I...I can't do it. He slowly shook his head at his own cowardice.

"Dude whats wrong?"

Kyler looked up at Mich. "Nothing. I was just thinking." Mich sighed and turned his back to him. Kyler wondered if he was going to say anything when Mich suddenly hit him across the face with his tail. He stared at Mich for a second. His face stung and he could feel a warm wet liquid running down his cheek. He touched his cheek with a paw and removed it. He stared at the small amount of blood drip from his paw and land on the wood floor with a Splat. He glared angerly at the pikachu who was shocked at what he just done.

"D-dude I'am sorry. I thought you would dodge that tailwhip."

Kyler stood up and bared his teeth. Mich raised his paws in submission and backed away. Kyler took a step towards him and snarled. Mich contiued to back away saying. "K-Kyler it was a accident really. It was just a tailwhip man I didn't mean to-" Kyler leaped and swiped at him with his paws. He could see the horror in Mich's eyes as a small drop of blood fell from his cheek. He looked at Mich, then to the drop of blood, he didn't care. He was tired of being picked on all the time by everyone.

Mich touched his cheek with his paw and pulled it back, glancing at the red liquid on it. Looking up at the evee his cheeks began to spark violently. "Dude you just pushed it!" He growled. He let loose a small jolt of electricity towards the snarling eevee. Kyler nimbly dodge it and ran head first into the pikachu's stomach. Mich gasped as the air left his lungs. Jumping to his feet he saw the Kyler leap into the air, he opened his mouth and aiming his teeth straight for the his throat. He quickly shot a thundershock at him but he plowed through it as if it was nothing.

Kyler was about to close his jaws around the former friends throat when a strange energy surround him. He could feel himself being drawn backwards. He tried to resist but energy was to powerful. The last thing he saw before blacking out was the look of relief on Mich's face.

Kyler shut his eye's at the sudden light as he was released from the pokeball.

"WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO!"

Kyler jumped. He spinned around to see Diane glaring at him. "I defended myself thats what!" He shouted. "Do you know what you have done!" She yelled. "No what?" He barked back. "You attacked Mich thats what! You should be glad that I stopped you before you killed him." She said this time stomping her foot. Kyler turned his head away and snorted. Typical, he tries to defend himself and gets punished for it.

"Do you hear me?"

He looked back up at her saying. "Ya and I don't care!"

"You...you little... ughh!"

Diane grabbed her hair and began tugging at it in frustration. Suddenly he felt horrible about the way he acted. Mich was one of his best friends and he was trying to help him only to be repaid with bloodshed. He dropped his ears below his head and looked down.

"I don't know what came over me, I just lost control and attacked."

Diane stopped tugging her hair. Crossing her arms in front of her, she stared at the him. They said nothing for a while, Kyler noticed that the sun was begining to set which meant she already graduated and that Evy and them left.

"Did they..." Kyler started. Diane continued to stare at him for a while before anwsering. "Ya. We got our pictures except MINE was without my pokemon and Zach said he'll never talk to me again because of you!" Kyler lowered his head even more.

Never again? I didn't mean to.

"We're leaving for Johto in two. Also your to stay in your pokeball except for training and till I think you can stop attcking everyone." Diane said. Kyler jaw dropped. "What!? In the ball the whole time?" She nodded and reached for the ball on her belt and plucked it. She pressed the button in the middle enlarging it. Kyler whined and slowly stepped back. A red beam shot out from the ball and envoleped him,he gave a slight whimper as he disappeared and the beam retreated back to the ball.

Diane looked at the ball for a moment and sighed, before putting it back on her belt and walked towards the train station.

Okay there it is. (Long sigh) I hope it was passable for a story. Longer than I expected. I hope it was a little good. The fight scene could be a little longer but I wanted to keep it short and quick. Not to do to much damage to each other.
