I will admit part of the reason for the scans is that it allows me to show the progression of the transformation in a way that would be beyond what the character would be seeing or reacting to.

Finally once he's gotten through about seven different machines he leads me to a spot on the side and makes an O with his fingers. This doesn't so much look like a piece of lab equipment at all. If anything it looks like just a raised platform. But the little dog man thing seems quite adamant about this spot and tries pushing me onto the platform. When I resist, because he's still so much smaller than I am that he really can't do anything more than direct, he changes tactics and grumbling to himself goes and steps hard on a piece of floor in front of the platform. And nothing happens. He looks confused at this and tries again to the same effect. He drops down to all fours to put his head close to the area and pushes against it with his hands but still no response. Finally he starts just slowly circling the platform, pushing against the ground periodically and eventually he finally gets the response he wants as another hidden compartment is revealed.

He yips at the movement and stands back up, looking more than slightly embarrassed by the blunder, but then uses a foot to raise the hidden compartment up further and then grabs a piece of paper folded into a small nook and hands it to me. At first I wonder if he's going to snag it and move on to some other part of the lab but when I don't immediately start trying to read it he pushes the paper in my hands towards me again. Shrugging and with a heavy sigh I look at the paper, expecting a long description of what that pedestal is supposed to be. Instead it's a very short and simple note. 'Remove clothes and step onto pedestal. Fresh readings and samples are required before any experiment can be performed.' And nothing else.

"And why can't you do it?" I ask, wondering why I have to be the one that has to undress and get on that platform when it could just as easily be that dog thing that does it. And to his credit he does something that makes it very obvious why it has to be me. He steps onto the pedestal and it drops a tiny bit. He then crouches somewhat and pushes down as he extends back up and the pedestal drops a bit more before rising back up, but nothing beyond that happens. He then cocks his head and stares at me for a good long moment before stepping off it and gesturing at me again. Right, so the thing is a scale and whatever it's supposed to do has a weight requirement before it does whatever and that the dog thing is simply too light to be able to trigger the activation switch.

Sighing I crumple the paper up as an act of defiance and follow the instructions. I remove the gown that I'm wearing and with my hands over my junk I step onto the pedestal. I can definitely feel it start to drop as soon as I step on and once it gets far enough I can feel it drop and then click once it gets to be level with the ground. As soon as this happens a bunch of instruments pop up seemingly out of nowhere as well as a bunch of monitors. The first thing it does is flash a couple pictures at me and I can see a display of my skeleton show up on one monitor. It then has two little arm-like devices move and grab my own arms, separating them and exposing me fully which seems more like adding insult to injury, but thankfully the little dog man doesn't seem the slightest bit interested in my manhood but instead in helping the whatever do its work as well as look at the readings. With the arms out to the side I can see a small syringe come down from the ceiling and after something dabs what I'm guessing is alcohol the syringe enters inside in an oddly unpainful manner and draws some blood.

There is definitely one thing that this does provide me, though. As it is tracking my changes it is showing various parts of my body up on one of the monitors so I'm able to finally get a chance to see what has happened to me so far. My hair is definitely a mess but thankfully doesn't quite look like someone has taken to an old college prank to my head as it does that I've developed some sort of rapid onset hair loss. My hair definitely looks much thinner than normal and I can see a bald spot developing from the front and moving backwards. I thankfully, cannot see any changes in real time, though I imagine that I am still probably changing as we speak. It shows a profile of my face as well but I don't really see anything different about it, though it does remind me of the fact that my jaw is a little sore.

The biggest thing, though, is when it shows my ass. Sticking out of the space is this little lump of flesh, about two inches long and when a probe begins poking at it I can feel the probe through this new chunk of flesh. It's also apparently already covering itself in the fine white hairs, slightly longer than the ones on my arm, though still little more than a casual dusting at this point. Finally once everything is done the machine beeps and all of the little things vanish to wherever they came from. I've half a mind to complain at the little dog thing that it could have warned me that something like that was about to happen but then at the same time I'm dealing with something that lacks the ability to speak. How exactly was he going to express 'a bunch of things will come down and take readings on you' with finger gestures? And the sheet he handed me did say that fresh samples and readings were required.

With everything being I assume done I get off the thing and move over and put my gown back on, so that I'm at least decent. The dog thing has already moved on past this and having apparently put the crumpled paper back in its slot and closed the secret compartment has now rushed over to the instrument it had marked as the first one earlier. He pushes on the secret compartment and pulls out the paper and then sets it aside for me while beckoning me over. Reluctantly I head over there and look at the paper. The dog thing begins barking in a complex manner as if trying to verbally explain something despite knowing that I cannot understand a single thing he says. And as he does so he frequently points at parts of the instructions, forcing me to more skim read the thing than actually look at it more in depth. Clearly trying to teach me how to use the device but getting a bit carried away. Must have been lonely for quite a while and is grasping at any chance of interaction.

The first machine mainly seems to be a compiler. All of the readings are run through this particular machine and all of it needs to be run through a few programs so that it can be used in a useful manner. After that we go to the next machine that starts to break down the information provided by the first and provides information about what all is going on in the cellular level. This one we probably spend a lot more time on, tinkering around with all the settings. Apparently this is the main equipment and the one that is the most useful. As evidenced of the fact that my companion has clearly been doing this before there's a lot of jumps in what he's doing, steps that he's skipping or choosing to not go into from having either already done them before and ruling them out already or just going through and narrowing down the list of things that are being tested.

The next two pieces of equipment from what I can understand is about setting up the actual experiment, in the creation of the process to make the new serum and synthesizing all the compounds necessary for the serum. I also notice that in the mix of this is the original serum as one of the components. Apparently there is probably a lot that the original serum does that cannot be simply replicated. And then we have the last few. These seem to be ones more about the setup and entering all the necessary parameters and then just wait for the others to finish. The point of these is to not only cure the serum, to allow it to fully mesh together and react as it should then is injected into some of the blood they drew from me to create a base and then check to see what results it has. But all of this is stuff that cannot be simply done in the matter of a couple of minutes and so my companion sets things up and starts all the equipment running and then makes a motion of wiping their hands together and seeming to deflate quite a bit. Apparently doing all that while at the same time trying to explain what he is doing as best as he is able took a lot out of him, which would explain the need for an assistant. It is a lot of equipment and a lot of steps for one person to take, especially when considering the fact that he can't even start the initial step of triggering the scale.

But with everything as done as they are able to be done at this time he waves at me towards the door to this laboratory. I shrug and follow. Outside the lab seems to be a fairly large complex from what I'm able to see. And also from what I've been half expecting, completely devoid of all life except for the two of us. He starts giving me a tour of the facilities, almost wistfully and a couple times seems to forget the fact he's acting as a guide and then after barking quickly leads me to a door to show me what's on the other side. Most of the rooms are about what you'd expect from a research facility designed not only to run experiments but also house the scientists involved. And it's also almost painfully obvious that this is also a facility designed to be used by more than one or two people. There are entire labs that are completely unused and don't look like they've seen any use in a long time and when I question the dog thing about it he just shrugs at me. Eventually I get it in my mind that I need to start calling him something other than dog man and resort to giving him the first name off the top of my head and name him Bob, which he doesn't really seem to mind all that much.

I'm shown where a few bathrooms are, where there's an entertainment area is located though it doesn't really look like there's anything to really do as there's no television or anything in it as far as I can see. But given this place and hiding things in secret compartments, who knows. At first I thought that that might be our destination but after showing it Bob closes the door and beckons me further along. My jaw, especially my teeth are a bit sore and I wonder if it's a symptom of the serum I was given or a symptom of whatever they did to bring me here. Our destination is actually something a bit more practical, a cafeteria.

Again another sign this is designed for probably more than a few dozen people the cafeteria is a large room with several rows of tables set aside. At first I wonder how we'll actually be fed, on if we have to cook our own food or use like dried rations or something but Bob leads us to the line and grabs a plate for each of us. At the start of the line there's a panel and Bob enters some buttons and then I can hear some motors starting to click into motion and after a minute of that a few slots begin to open up in front of us and some dispensers come up from those slots. Bob immediately starts grabbing the items from these dispensers and putting them on his plate.

They certainly don't seem to be all that appetizing in my opinion. They most certainly don't look like anything I'd consider to be food. They look like little off-colored squares and a few that are releasing a sort of goopy substance. I grab one of the little square things and bring it up to my face, trying to figure out what all it might be. Bob stops and looks at me and after a few seconds shakes his head before walking off for a second, only to come back with a chair. He hops onto the chair, grabs the little squishy square from my hand and sticks it in my mouth. At first I object until I notice it does taste okay. It tastes like meat, only not quite, and definitely more than a little bland.

Bob takes the square and places it on my plate and then hops off the chair and puts it away. I watch him, somewhat perplexed still and as he comes back he puts his hands together and then pulls them apart in a straight line in a manner as if pulling something apart. Not following the motion he pauses a moment and then starts up the pantomiming again. He moves over and grabs an empty plate and then flicks it up and down, in the manner as if flipping a pancake or something, then puts the plate carefully down, puts one hand over the wrist of the other and makes circles around the top of his wrist. He then makes a face of disgust for a second before then pointing at the dispensers and then giving me a thumbs up sign before going back to his own plate. It is here that I notice that in front of each dispenser is a little tiny stair case. That this place is designed so that someone of both my height and his height can get at each of the dispensers, which is not only an interesting feature but one that clearly was built with this distinction.

I roll my tongue around my mouth for a bit, digesting his words as I continue to taste the not-meat thing that he had stuck in there, my tongue apparently favoring one of my canine teeth as it feels strange. I guess what he was trying to say makes sense, that real food would spoil over time. So what's in these dispensers is probably food designed to not spoil. So either tons of preservatives or dried out and then moistened out for us as it comes out of the dispenser. As I move to the next item in the dispensers I decide to try this first time as a bit of an a la carte rather than have Bob pick my food, which he doesn't seem to have any interest in. instead he's not only filled his plate enough with the goops and squares and has moved over to a table and started eating.
