This is a short Valentine story involving the pictured rat Kendall and another OC of mine Oliver. I really enjoyed writing this piece and hope you guts enjoy it. I plan on doing more with these characters in the future as well some other short stories.

Oliver hummed to the catchy pop song he heard on the radio as he walked through the busy park path. The tuxedo kitten took a seat on the empty bench chair near the turned off water fountain. The slight breeze felt nice caressing his fur and tickled his nose with promises of hot dogs, cotton candy, and popcorn from nearby food carts. Oliver wiped a little drool from his mouth while clutching the pink box on his lap to keep it from running away.

An aspiring chef Oliver had chosen to focus on the pastry side of cooking having fallen in love with all things bread related. But being surprised with a blind Valentine's date Oliver decided to try his hand at making simple homed chocolates for his surprise date. Although not being an avid candy maker Oliver didn't it have any cute shaped models and so was forced to use an ice cube tray with slight dread. Taste over looks was what Olly decided to go for with his chocolates.

Oliver felt his phone buzz in the pocket of his red jacket thankfully giving him a distraction. He had a new text message from an unknown number. Hey, this Ken, I'm your blind date, I hope. If not, please ignore this message. Oliver chuckled understanding the feeling as his friend Laura wasn't above springing fake numbers to people she didn't like. In fact, on more then one occasion he saw the brown mouse happily giving random numbers from yellow books to customers at the dinner.

I'm excited to meet you Ken! I'm Oliver I'm sitting by the water fountain with a red jacket and pink box on my lap. Oliver peeked around the somewhat empty area only seeing a pair of elderly canines feeding some happy pigeons. Oliver felt began to fidget on the bench wondering what Ken kind of guy would be like.

He had known Laura for close to two years now and seen the type of guy she seemed to go for. She had been really into Charlie, a quiet and slim tabby cat buried in a book that frequented the diner. He was nice enough, but Laura had made a whole back story for him without Charlie ever speaking more than two sentences a day. Then there was Jason, the hipster german shepherd that posted a little too many black and white empty street photos on his Quick Click page with one-word titles like EMPTY, COLD, and LOUD. "He so deep and complicated Olly. You have to go check his gallery with me Friday!" Oliver had found the lack of color photos strange since Jason had dyed his hair neon purple and sported a well-groomed pink mustache. The cat felt a slight shiver run down his spine as his excitement turned to slight fear as to who Laura might have set him up with.

Oliver felt his phone buzz in his paw and saw a new message blurb. I think I see you, but to just be sure I'm waving at you now. Oliver quickly glanced around again only to be surprised a large grey rat with black framed blue eyes waving at him from across the fountain. The tall and rugged rat was not at all what Oliver had started to picture as his blind date. Oliver timidly waved back to the hunky rat feeling himself being pulled towards those striking eyes and similar blue ears and nose. The rat nodded with a smile and walked over holding a hand behind his black sport jacket.

"Hello, it's great to meet you Oliver. Your even cuter than Laura said you were?" Oliver blushed as he found his himself suddenly tongue tied in front of Ken. "Ugh thanks, gift you Ken." Oliver raised the pink box to a grinning Ken noticing the two cute large buck teeth in front. "Heh, that's really sweet of you Oliver, thank you. I also got something for you." Ken slowly pulled out a small bouquet of mixed tulips and red roses. Oliver felt his eyes widen by the fragment mix of beautiful flowers presented to him. "These are beautiful Ken, thank you." The two exchanged gifts with strong eagerness feeling surprised that other had gotten them something.

With almost comical slowness Ken opened the box in his large claws and broke into a grin seeing a small mountain of chocolate cubes decorated with dark chocolate stripes. "There's a mix of solid milk chocolate, strawberry crème, vanilla crème, and orange jelly. I made the chocolate myself so I hope you like it, but if you don't, I can buy you something else here in park." Oliver twirled his tail nervously as Ken took a cube from the box and dropped it onto his blue tongue. With wide eyes Oliver watched with fainted breath as Ken's left ear twitched and the rat released a small squeal before quickly throwing back another three cubes moaning softly. Oliver felt incredibly relieved to see Ken approve of his cooking being new to chocolate making. "Mmm you're a really good baker Oliver these chocolates are incredibly tasty...Why don't you share them with me?" Ken lowered the box to Oliver smiling a toothy grin as the kitten eagerly took a chocolate.

"Thank you, I really loved how these turned out!" Oliver shoved the sweet into his mouth and purred as creamy chocolate melted away to strawberry cream in his mouth. Without second guessing it Oliver closed his eyes and felt his body begin to wiggle as it did whenever he felt extremely happy. Once the candy melted away Oliver opened his eyes to a very confused Ken staring at him mouth ajar.

The kitten wanted to throw himself under the bench to hide, but his body was locked watching the giant rat for any change in reaction. Thankfully just when Oliver thought he might have to run out of the park and change his number Ken started to chuckle before covering his mouth with a blue claw and crinkling eyes. Still slightly nervous about the wiggling Oliver swiped a paw through his right whiskers.

"So...sorry about that. I sort of do a little dance when I get really excited over something...It's really embarrassing." Having finished laughing Ken uncovered his mouth and held up a finger as he tried to catch his breath.

"He...hey don't be sorry Oliver. That was kind of cute to watch." Ken's smile was wider than before and the rat seemed more relaxed having stepped closer to Oliver. "Besides there plenty of embarrassing things about me that you'll see today or hear from Laura later." Ken playfully rolled his eyes after mentioning his friends name. Having been reminded about Laura his previous question ran across his mind and out his mouth.

"No offense but you don't seem like Laura's usual type how do you know her?" The big rat cringed at the thought to Oliver's slight annoyance thinking the bubbly mouse was rather pretty.

"Thankfully not since Laura is my little sister." Now it was Oliver's turn to gawk at Ken as he tried to find any family resemblance between the small brown furred girl from work and the bulky grey rat with unique claws and eyes. Seeming to pick up on his thoughts Ken coughed to break the silence before scrunching his face with duller eyes. "Yeah, I take more after my father having inherited his "pipe" genes as he called them." Ken paused to smile at some happy memory as his face brightened up a little. "My hands, tail, and feet have special fluorescent pigments that absorb the light making them glow in dim sewer pipes. As well as reflective blue hair clusters around my body and underneath my right eye." Ken pointed to his snout and Oliver was able to see a few faint circles in the weak daylight. "These make it easier to find me if my radio goes silent or old pipeline collapses during inspection. They really are handy traits to have in my line of work but can be a bit shocking when I first meet people" Oliver felt guilty for having felt that way as Ken let out a defeated sigh before shrugging it off.

"Well those are still really cool traits to pass down though. After all I met hundreds of rats throughout the city, but none as uniquely cool as you. But I don't think that I could ever have your baby though." Oliver shook his head and patted his belly while Ken laughed in agreement. The mood seemed to lighten again when suddenly Ken's stomach began to growl.

"Sorry I just got out of work not long and those chocolates reminded how hungry I am." Ken blushed as he rubbed his still growling stomach into silence.

"We should get something to eat then since despite tasting good my chocolates aren't very filling. I passed a lot of amazing smelling food carts on the way here we could pick out something for the other to try." Ken nodded in agreement and having gotten past the initial awkwardness of introductions the pair continue to walk through the park together.

Oliver tried to think of something that he could hold in one hand as kept the beautiful flowers next to his chest. There where so many delicious smells in the air from buttery popcorn, surgery churros to savory hot dogs. It all made his mouth water, but Olly wanted to get something that would be satisfy for Ken as well. After bouncing back between the hot dog cart and the taco stand down the path. Olly finally decided to go with a loaded Charleston Dog and formed in line before ordering the city's signature hot dog.

"Eh now flowers and a lunch? You've got a valentine's date kid? Any way thanks for choosing my old cart." The mature brown bear laughed with a hearty bellow before taking Oliver order. "Charleston Dog for your date? Now that's a bold move kid." The bear laughed once more with approval as a he piled a long hot dog with grilled onions, relish, chili, and finally a small mound of cheddar cheese. The large helping of toppings was almost enough to be a second wiener. "Can't ever go wrong a Chicklet city favorite." The mature bear gave a wink of encouragement as Oliver happily payed the nice bear before looking around for Ken.

Oliver walked ahead through the crowding path of parkgoers looking for Ken around the pretzel and taco carts but didn't see him. Did he go farther ahead, or did I miss him back where I was? "That looks really good what did you get?" Oliver turned left to see Ken with three sticks of sauce covered meat that smelled amazing. The giant rat's eye was directed at the Charleston dog in his paw as he moved closer to Oliver's outstretched paw.

"It's a Charleston hot dog it's named after Jack Charleston, a retired baseball player from this city. One of my cooking instructors apparently grew up watching him when he still played and taught us the recipe during a lab." Oliver couldn't remember seeing Mr. French ever smile before during class before that lab or after really.

He found Ken practically over his paw with hungry eyes when Oliver broke out of his daze. "Oh right. Please have the first the bite I wanted you to eat first since you skipped lunch." Ken smiled his toothy grin as Oliver raised the hot dog to his waiting mouth. Ken wasted no time taking a large bite before chewing the mouthful. Oliver watched as both of Ken's ear twitched and his head bobbed a little with each chew. It sort of reminded him his own happy dance and that thought made Oliver break out into a wide grin watching the happy rodent. Oliver offered the remaining half of the Charleston dog to Ken, but he shook his head and held up the meat sticks to Oliver.

"I still want you to try my friend's bbq chicken before I eat all of your food. Ash and his Dad have the best bbq chicken cart in the city as far I'm concerned." Ken seemed very proud of his friend and it made Oliver glad to see a chef getting such high recognition.

"Of course, they smell great too and I am always happy to try new foods." Oliver was excited to taste the chicken in front of him until he thought about it for a moment. He still had Ken's flower in one hand and the Charleston dog in the other. So how was he going to take a stick from Ken? As the kitten became more distressed about how to balance both in one arm a warm chuck of meat patted his lips.

"You fed me earlier so let me return the favor okay?" Ken looked to be blushing as he held a stick positioned forward and other two leaned back in his hand. Slightly embarrassed his himself Oliver hesitated for a moment as Ken's hand began to slightly shake. Pushing past his nerves Olly brought his mouth around the meat and felt the warmth of Ken's hand a few inches from his face. The tangy and sweet sauce was bursting with flavor and as Oliver bitten down, he was surprised to find the chicken dripping with juice. He purred and felt his body begin to wiggle as pulled a section of chicken with him of the stick.

Oliver took a moment to slowly lick his lips getting extra sauce off his fur with a wide tongue. "Mmm your friend is a really skilled griller." Oliver looked up to see Ken's eyes slightly hooded and his face flushed. "Ken are you okay?" The large rat was shifting slightly as he avoided Oliver's gaze before the kitten noticed the bulge breaking out from his sweatpants.

"Sorry that thing you did with your mouth just now had a bit of an affect on me. Just give me a minute to calm it down a bit yeah?" Oliver felt his own penis growing have seen Ken's bulge and decided to take a few breathes to calm down as well.

"So that was really embarrassing huh. I didn't mean to imply anything by the way I don't push for anything on the first date." Ken kicked the ground as kept his eyes away from Oliver still.

"Don't be I got hard too after all, but does that mean I'll have to wait until our second date to get any physical affection then?" Oliver grinned like a loon as the wide-eyed Ken finally met his gaze again. Oliver moved in closer to the cute and flustered Ken. "I'm not asking for anything big just a kiss if you're up for it?" The giant rat quickly nodded before bending his head down for Oliver.

The moment Olivier's lips met Ken's a wave of heat and electricity ran through the pair. The kiss was messy and awkward as neither had much experience with kissing, but the passion behind each smack was enough to make their knees quiver. The pair broke apart panting and filled with deep heat shaken bodies that made them want to do it again, but rumbling stomachs reminded them of where they were.

Oliver was the first to speak as Ken stood above in a bliss trance. "We should probably finish this food before pigeons start attacking." The kitten joked only to flinch when a stray pigeon dove left of him making the kitten jump. Ken laughed as he came down from his sensual high and a took a bite off his chicken stick. Having finish their food the pair held hands as they walked back towards the park entrance both feeling incredibly great. Only after walking on to the sidewalk of the city did they let go of each other.

"So...how about dinner...at my place for our second date?" Oliver wasn't sure why he felt so nervous asking for a second date, but his heart was thumping in his chest and paws felt sweaty. Ken pulled out his phone and typed something away before Oliver felt his pocket buzz.

"That sounds great, I just sent you a picture of my work schedule. Text me back when you have you have a day available and I'll bring my Ducko to watch a movie with you." Ken beamed a wide smiled and wrapped Oliver in a powerful bear hug before leaving the humming kitten on the sidewalk. Oliver made a mental note to bake Laura a basket of blueberry muffins for the best Valentine's day ever
