A/N: The next few chapters will be rather short because I don't wish to drag out the events in each chapter more than necessary.

Chapter 22: Cooldown

"... and that's pretty much everything," Love Heart sighed and sat back against the couch in Pegasus Fall's royal caves, "Sorry you've been out of the loop so long, Fauna."

"No problem, sounds like a lot of crazy stuff. I mean, Anger Heart's a nine-tails now?" Fauna was lounging on the other end of the couch in her human form. "Honestly I'm kinda happy I didn't get caught up in that yet. So how's being a stay-a-home dad treating you?"

Love Heart smiled, "It's nice not having to go on missions, especially since the bad guys seem to be waiting on us. I'll try to keep you updated about things." Love Heart got up and stretched, "I'm gonna go say hi to Red Snout before I go, and get your brother to come home. Isn't he supposed to be working with White Fang?"

Fauna rolled her eyes, "Yeah but he's become fascinated with space ever since Star Fox showed up."

"I noticed," Love Heart headed towards the cave entrance, "See ya later, Fauna."

Renegade Whitewolf and his mate Nova the Unicorn shifted and transformed into their human forms as they walked up the boarding ramp of the Great Fox.

"So this ship can travel through space," Renegade touched one of the internal bulkheads.

"Yeah, it's weird thinking about the world beyond this planet," Nova shook her head. "But it's exciting."

Renegade smirked, "Thinking about travelling the stars someday?"

"Maaaaybe," Nova gave Renegade a kiss.

"Umm hello, who are you?" Peppy Hare was walking towards the boarding ramp from inside the ship. He stopped to look at the couple.

They broke off the kiss and turned to the grey hare. "Sorry. My name is Renegade Whitewolf, Shaman of Pegasus Falls."

"And I'm his mate, Nova. I'm a Unicorn." Nova said.

"I heard about you and your ability to shapeshift." Peppy nodded, "If you want a tour you can ask Slippy," He pointed to the green frog who was going over maintenance reports, "just don't touch anything without permission. I have to deliver this to Tenderheart." He showed them a datapad then hurried off down the ramp and towards Care-a-Lot.

Slippy looked up when he saw the two seeming humans approach him.

Nova was the first to speak, "Can you show us around?"

"In a minute. I need to finish my report on this alloy." It didn't take long for Slippy to finish. "Alright, let me show you around..."

"Here's the psionic test results," Peppy handed the datapad to Tenderheart, who was currently seated at the table in the leaders' office.

"Hmm? Ok thanks," Tenderheart took the pad but didn't look at it.

"Is something wrong?" Peppy sat down across from him.

"Just... most people don't get to see their own dead body. I'm a bit rattle right now," Tenderheart sat back in his chair.

"Well then, I'll just summarise the most interesting test results." Peppy cleared his throat, "There's only three stand-outs other than yourself, Major Independent Bear and Soulful Heart Fox: Champ Bear and Bright Heart Raccoon have minor psionic abilities, dormant but if they train they could unlock some level of power. The greater surprise is from the young Aqua Bear. He has psionic potential equal to yours thought currently dormant."

"Really?" Tenderheart finally looked at the datapad, "Potential for telepathy, most specifically mind reading. Sounds like what Futureheart was close to doing."

"Futureheart's psionic training was stalled because he was fighting against Andross," Peppy said, "I would like to bring Aqua Bear into the same psionic training program you and Soulful are in."

"Sounds good to me, what about Champ and Bright Heart?" Tenderheart asked.

"You can inform them and they can choose for themselves, but I think Aqua's potential has the best chance to make a change in our future." Peppy said.

"Alright, I'll tell Aqua as soon as possible." Tenderheart set the datapad aside, "Just, let me rest for a while and I'll get on it."

"Don't stress too much." Peppy stood up, "We're all doing out part here."
