Rambling reasoning - 44. (Short story poem)
Revisions...
A few years ago, I saw an old fear walking about, appearing to watch me move more
I had hoped as a child, it would leave me be, go away to some distant shore
As I stared in disbelief, the memory, the impact it had made came back to me
The nightmares, unsteady thoughts, twisting into dreams became vibrant & repeated what I didn't care to see
It wasn't much, but it left me uneasy all the same
It was a silhouette, of what looked to be a humanoid, it would hide behind trees in the yard of my grandparents
I called it "void" for a name
As I rocked in a metal chair on the porch, it would peak out
Almost completely see-through, it seemed to have a mouth, nose, but no eyes throughout
It was nothing but a moving outline that took a moment to settle in place
It made noise, at least I think it did
A misshapen head with a strange face
It was enough to scare any kid
It would be outside the window, in the yard, sometimes by the entrance at the door
It seemed persistently active for years, but never came inside
It had me inspecting outside at times, looking hard for footprints on the floor
I would see it nearing sometimes off the bus, it would have me running to the house to hide
The shadows seemed to stay indoors, while it stayed outside for years
Never uttering a word, to not seem crazy, I kept quiet on such daily fears
Only recently have I found these old monsters again around
It doesn't move me to doubt anymore, nor worry
Even in such a case, I don't try & hurry
In my head I'm sure they'll stay
With the others, the shadows moving about, in my mind they can play
