The sound of tyres on loose gravel awoke the new born fawn, Feeling her mother's warm body tense up.

As the old truck came to a halt, a man in a worn dusty shirt exited the vehicle, before moving to the passenger's side and removing a cardboard box carrying it inside, the fawn squinted in the warm sun, seeing a flash of something black in the box before it was carried inside.

"Mother what's wrong?" the fawn asked

The doe was still stiff, head and ears erect, body tensed ready to flee if required,

"It could be danger" she replied never moving her gaze from the farmhouse.

The fawn yawned before resting her head in the slot between her rear leg and body, curling tightly and falling asleep as her mother continued her observation, The other deer on the farm paid little interest in the events more interested in the spring grasses.

"PEOPLE! I loooove people!"

The 8 week Labrador puppy exclaimed, bouncing around the pen tail wagging in circles like a demented helicopter.

"He's over here" the human said picking the pup up,

"Excited little fella isn't he?" the farmer said as the pup wiggled in the hands of the breeder, bright eyed trying to get closer to the new smells on the farmer.

"He takes after his dam in that regard" the breeder chuckled

"Ok I'll take him"

***

the pup followed the farmer everywhere on his first day, he would roll in all the great smelling things, only to have the farmer take him to the creek, oh how he Loved that creek, this whole place was heaven to him, everything a lab could want food, people, water and there were other dogs here, very tall odd smelling dogs that would keep away from him, the farmer would scold him if he tried to chase after them, all he wanted to do was ask how the sticks stayed on their heads, because he had to hold his in his mouth and that got in the way of eating food.

The fawn saw this clumsy fluffy black thing following the farmer around, her mother telling her to stay in the cover of the trees in the paddock while she would feed during the day, she could see a limited amount of the farm and the farmhouse from her hiding spot, late in the afternoon she saw the black thing emerge from the open door of the farmhouse, before making his way to their paddock, wiggling through the fence and flopping awkwardly to the pile of salad scraps from lunch, the farmer's wife having put them in the paddock as a treat for the deer, his tail wagging happily as he did.

the fawn watched curiously, in a few seconds it had finished and looked around for a moment, before its nose lowered to the ground and it began trotting around the paddock, gradually getting closer to the trees and she lost sight of it as it went around the side of the trees, a few minutes passed and she heard a snuffling sound and clumsy cracking of leaves, getting closer until the black fluffy head of a curious lab pup pushed through the grass to look at her.

"TREE DOG!" the lab barked excitedly at her.

"What?" the fawn asked, as the strange deer wiggled in front of her, it's whole body wiggling to propel the tail

"tree dog! Tree dog! Let's play!" the excited lab bounced from left to right trying to get the fawn to chase him,

the fawn stood her ears flattening, as she looked down at the lab her long legs holding her above him

"I'm not a tree dog"

"Tree dog tree dog!" the lab yapped still bouncing around

"Slow down! what's your name?" the fawn asked the lab sat still wiggling

"I'm not sure, I think my names "Get out of it?"

At that moment their sensitive ears heard the farmer's distant voice

"Fuck! Fucking Get out of it! COME HERE!"

The two looked ears perked as the lab said "see, but that first things ne..."

CRASH!

He jumped as the hoof landed in front of him narrowly missing his head, he recoiled scrambling backwards as another hoof slammed down next to his head followed by another. Looking up the fawn saw her mother with anger in her eyes stomping at the pup,

"GET AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER!" she bleated at him,

which is exactly what he was trying to do, a roar grew louder before a scratchy noise was heard as the farmer jumped from the skidding ATV putting himself between the doe and the pup, kicking the pup away behind him with the side of his boot rising his arms to appear bigger than the doe.

"GO NOW!" the doe bleated at her fawn, the fawn running away quickly overtaken by her mother before she fell instep as they departed.

"YOU STUPID PUP! THAT DOE WAS GOING TO KILL YOU!" the farmer yelled at the scared whimpering pup

the pup closed his eyes as the farmer lunged at him before getting picked up turned and flipped over in the farmers hands

"you're lucky, she hasn't injured you at all" the farmer said having looked the pup over for any injuries the doe may have inflicted before putting him on the back of the ATV

"Stay there!" he commanded the pup laying down tail between his legs ears flat while the farmer drove them back to the farm house.

Several days later the doe had brought the fawn out from cover and was keeping her close as she fed on the grasses growing through the fence, the fawn saw the pup bounding after the farmer.

" Get out of it! Hi!" the fawn called to the pup,

the pup froze mid step looking at the fawn with a paw raised, flattening his ears and hiding behind the farmers leg when he saw the doe step up behind her fawn, her eyes glaring daggers at him.

The farmers boot moved away exposing him as the farmer moved towards the doe

"Now, now Betty that's not nice" the farmer said as he approached the fence putting his hand through the netting holding an apple for the doe,

"Beau, Come say hello to Betty, Betty this is Beau"

Betty followed the apple, a bright happy gleam in her eyes the pup forgotten for the moment at least

Beau stayed where he was until the farmer commanded him

"Beau COME!"

Beau hesitated until saw the doe eating the apple

"Food! Why didn't you say so!"

he bounded forward the doe taking a step back becoming defensive again, Beau stopped the second she moved until the farmer gently called him forward,

Betty and Beau's noses twitched as they smelled each other through the fence getting a proper introduction this time.

The farmer produced another apple from the bag in his hand Beau quickly darting forward to grab it scoffing it down in four quick bites.

The farmer smacked his muzzle lightly

"Beau NO! you Wait!" he scolded Beau's ears flattened as he was disciplined the doe waiting as the farmer produced another apple for her the fawn pushing forward to smell this new treat.

"What is it" she asked

"It's an apple Jane, very tasty we don't get given them often" Betty said as she munched it

Jane approached Beau through the fence her smaller body letting her poke her head through the mesh

"Hello again Beau is it?"

Beau's ears perked as his tail wagged excitedly

"Yes! " he stepped forward licking Jane's muzzle excitedly

Jane pulled back not really liking the smell of puppy breath from his tongue all over her muzzle, Betty snorting in a bemused manner at it before seeing the farmer was out of tasty apples.

"Jane come along" she said turning and walking away from the fence back to the main paddock.

"Coming mother." Jane said before turning back to the excited Beau

"I have to go see you later." She said before trotting off after Betty

"OK! Bye tree dogs!"

The farmer chuckled "Ok enough of that its dinnertime"

Beau's ears perked and he sat on the farmers boot "FOOOOD!"

***

The weeks turned to months the with Jane and Beau becoming almost inseparable, the farmer had given up trying to keep Beau out of the deer paddocks seeing how the two got along, his only concern being Betty getting defensive but she too was just as unable to prevent Jane from interacting with Beau so resigned herself to keeping a close eye on the two just in case. The other deer gave Beau a wide berth it wasn't wise to attack the animals the farmer liked besides the bucks who would never allow him to approach choosing to move away from him, Beau showed no interest in the other deer.

As fall began the farmer opened the bush paddock up, it being fully forested yet still fenced in and Jane and Beau were in there often talking and playing while exploring the new place today was no different.

"Beau even my mother told me to keep away from the bucks."

"I know Jane, farmer tells me the same thing, but I gotta know how they do it!"

"Do what?" Jane asked

"their sticks, the ones on their heads I wanna know how they got them to stay there, and no one seems to know so I have to ask them"

Jane shook her head, Beau was fixated on the antlers of the bucks again until Beau stopped suddenly looking down through the light scrub head up, ears perked, right paw lifted half way.

"It couldn't be that could it?" Beau said

"Couldn't be wha..." Jane started before Beau took off through the scrub

she heard the scrub crashing as he charged through it,

SPLASH!

"FOUND IT!" Beau's voice echoed back through the scrub

Jane rolled her eyes "Water, of course why didn't I see this coming" she mused as she pushed through towards the vigorous splashing seeing Beau running up and down the small creek

"You're addicted to water aren't you?" Jane laughed

Beau stopped midstep and cocked his head at her

"What do you mean?"

"I mean you're addicted to water, you love It."

"Am not! I can quit anytime!" he pouted

"ok so prove it right now, get out of the water."

Beau's ears flicked back as he stared blankly at Jane for a few seconds, then in defiance lay down on his belly in the stream only his head and upper neck above the water

"Nope!" he replied

Jane laughed at the goofy lab before her nose smelt something musky yet somehow familiar her young mind working trying to identify it.

Beau noticed the change

"What is it?" he asked tensing up in case it was trouble

"I... I'm not sure" Jane replied her twitching nose asking questions of the winds

"Well lets go find out!" Beau erupted from the creek water going everywhere, Jane recoiled as he shook himself of excess water spraying water all over Jane, Jane snorting at Beau in disapproval before she moved in the direction of the scent. It wasn't long until she reached the fence separating the bush paddock from the rest of the farm she heard the bleats of the other does and saw the bucks acting very aggressively some were locking antlers and seemed intent on pushing one another around the paddock steam emitting from their overheated bodies eyes wide and she saw their urine spray on their bellies as they battled the smell causing a twinge in her belly she didn't recognise.

eventually one of the bucks lost his footing and was overpowered by the other, turning quickly he fled but not fast enough to avoid the rivals sharp tines from piercing his rump as a bit of extra motivation.

Beau's mouth was agape seeing this display of violence and finally realising the sticks weren't sticks at all

Jane shuddered feeling excited about the battle she had seen and wanting to get close to the buck that won, then she saw her mother approach the buck licking his neck as he held his head high breathing heavily as he recovered, then his focus shifted to Betty seaming very interested in her all of a sudden, Betty smiled a bit before stepping in front of him her tail held high, The buck wasted no time in accepting his prize licking her sweet smelling folds briefly before sliding over her back gripping her in front of her rear legs, Jane saw his tail quivering for a few moments before the buck jumped lifting Bettys rear off the ground, Betty pushing back into the thrust, her eyes closed as she let out a pleasured needy bleat. The buck slid out of her his cervid length retreating into his sheath, but not unnoticed by Jane, who's heart beated faster and a little drool dripped from her muzzle at the sight and scents assaulting her young mind.

"I need to be with him" Jane murmured eyes glazed

"What!?" Beau gasped

Jane was walking along the fence now looking for a way in her tail twitching as her nether's warmed up pleasantly, she reached the end of the fence line not finding an opening so went the other way

"Jane? Jane! What are you doing?"

"I feel funny, it's itchy and I think the buck can scratch it" she said breaking into a trot now

"But..." Beau was at a loss for words

"FOUND IT!" Jane bleated happily pushing through a damaged section of the fence and into the bucks paddock she looked around for the dominant buck but he was at the far end of the paddock now.

"JANE! BEHIND YOU!" Beau warned

Jane turned to see the defeated buck behind her with a gleam in his eye

"Hello sweetie" said the buck

"err... Hi?" Jane replied backing off

"what's a young thing like you doing here"

"I... I... I'm itchy and need to speak with mother about it"

"Oh I know all about that itch, its why all the does are in here."

"You do?" Jane asked moving towards the buck stopping to shudder as the wind shifted and she caught the full rutting scent from his heated body

"You're feeling it bad aren't you" he said as he circled the doe tightly catching her first heat scent, licking his muzzle testing the scent.

"Y... yes?"

"don't worry just relax and I'll help you, I can see you won't last long enough to reach the other side of the pen, that itch let me tell you about it."

"Ok"

"Jane no! Get out of there!" Beau barked at her

Jane looked at her friend the worry in his eyes before the scent of the buck hit her again and ignoring the lab he continued

"it starts off as a mild annoyance, slowly at first, but it will take over your mind and make you mad, you don't want to become a mad deer do you? the humans kill mad deer to stop it spreading" the buck lied

Jane knew that was true she had overheard her mother and the other elder deer talking about mad cows and how the farmer had to kill them.

"Oh no! not that PLEASE help me!" she begged him

"Not to worry, that's why I'm here"

the buck circled behind her his huffing breath on her untried virginal folds making her lift her tail, pleased the buck gave a light lick of her folds, the sensation jolting up her spine making her moan her muscles flexed as a stream of hotly scented urine dripped out falling on the bucks tongue before he pulled back shuddering at the heat and readiness of Jane to his advances.

Jane Bleated locking her legs as the buck licked her folds deeply, the sensation electric as it travelled her spine she shuddered when it stopped but not for long as a heavy weight crashed down on her back, she tried to get away but the buck gripped her tightly

"What are you doing oooh" Jane bleated her protest stopping as the quivering tip of the buck teased her entrance for the first time the buck had her but he noticed they wouldn't be alone for long Jane's bleats had been noticed by the other buck and he was not amused beginning to trot over in their direction.

"Oh don't worry Ugh!"

Jane was pushed forward onto her chest by the bucks mating thrust, pleasure and pain rocked her mind as the buck took her virginity, pleasure points she didn't know she had got stroked for the first time, as she lay panting the buck took off down the fence with the other buck close behind.

Jane bleated in pain feeling a bite to her flank, turning she saw Betty with an angered look on her muzzle

"Mother?"

"GET OUT OF HERE!" Betty yelled at her hoping to scare her out of the bucks paddock before it was too late but as Jane turned and ran back to Beau Betty saw the string of sticky cum leaking from her daughter much as it did from her own folds before she pushed back through the fence and ran to the other side of the bush paddock with a concerned Beau close behind.

weeks passed and Jane didn't feel the itch again not since that day but she felt strange, she didn't go near the bucks paddock again for fear of her mother's wrath and eventually the farmer opened the paddocks letting the doe's out of the bucks paddock and opening the forest block, the does entering it fat from feeding in the paddocks began settling for winter, Betty found Jane and approached her fawn softly Beau curled up protectively his head on her side watching Betty closely.

"Beau leave us, we need to talk alone"

Beau hesitated his hackles raising slightly remembering Betty biting Jane, he was about to growl at her when Jane spoke

"Beau it's all right please give us a few minutes"

Beau looked at Jane before huffing "Fine, but I'll be nearby if you need me"

Jane nodded, Beau gave Betty a threatening glace as he passed, Betty stepping back slightly fearful at this change in Beau's demeanour

when he was gone Betty licked Jane's head and neck

"I'm sorry about what happened, you were not meant to be in the bucks pens and I was trying to prevent you from mating with them but I failed."

"Mating? What's that?"

"It is the rut the time of creation, I should have told you this before to warn you."

"Told me what? What is wrong with me?"

"Easy Jane it's natural, when that buck mated you he gave you a fawn, in summer you will give birth just as I will." She said pressing into Jane's neck to comfort her

"Mating? Fawn? But that buck said..."

"He lied Jane, the bucks are very different during the rut they will fight each other lie to us but all they want is to cover us and breed us during our heats."

Jane sobbed as the reality that she was pregnant and would bear a fawn sunk in Betty stood up Jane looked seeing sadness in her eyes

"Jane, there is something else and you won't like it."

Jane stood still sobbing

"You must stop seeing Beau..."

"WHAT! NO!"

"Jane you don't und..."

"NO! You don't know him like I do! He's sweet kind and loving! I won't leave him!"

"Jane you don't understand that's not what..."

"GRRRRRRRRRR!"

A deep menacing growl snapped the deer to attention they turned seeing Beau, head low teeth bared, growling at Betty, as he circled between the two deer putting Jane behind him to protect her.

"GET AWAY FROM HER!"

"Beau please listen..." Betty pleaded

"NOW!" Beau barked, snapping at her forelegs Betty looked at Jane saddened one last time before turning and running tears in her eyes.

Beau watched as she left the anger that flared leaving immediately when Jane nuzzled his back.

"Are you ok?" Beau asked

"Yes... I mean no... I... I'm pregnant!" Jane babbled

Beau looked shocked, that was not what he was expecting to hear.

"You're going to have puppies?" he asked his hackles dropping as his tail started to spin in excitement

"a fawn and yes"

"YAY! More playmates for us!" he yapped excitedly

Jane was too emotionally drained to argue with the lab when he got like this so simply nodded as he began zipping around the place at top speed.

*** the winter was long and when the spring came Jane was ravenous Beau was at her side and she wanted to talk to her friend but she spent practically every moment eating, it was like the food she ate never went to her stomach, Beau would talk to her and she would give him short answers between bites there were moments when she would settle to chew the cud she could finally respond to Beau in a more meaning full way and Beau understood and looked forward to those moments, Jane was getting quite large now, her young body wasn't meant to bear a fawn yet and even the farmer would give her apples every week to distract her while he checked her over. This continued for weeks until one day Beau couldn't find her, he looked around the paddocks but nothing, the farmer ended up shutting him inside because he was starting to disturb the other does, until after 2 weeks Jane emerged from the bush paddock and the farmer let Beau out.

Beau didn't take long to find Jane who was considerably thinner and seamed even hungrier now of anything,

"Jane! Where'd you go! I've been looking everywhere."

the excited Beau chattered nonstop and Jane was tired the fawn keeping her up at all hours when it suckled finally Jane stopped eating

"Beau please! I'm tired please calm down"

Beau's ears flattened, she had never yelled at him like that before

"I... I'm sorry Jane" he apologised nuzzling against her foreleg affectionately

Jane relaxed a bit feeling sorry for yelling at her friend

"no it's ok I shouldn't have yelled at you I'm sorry Beau"

"No problem!" Beau yapped before running off a short distance, flattening his front to the ground coaxing Jane to play. Jane chuckled before giving chase and for a brief time it was as it was when they were young.

That would change...

Beau wanted to see the fawn Jane had told him to keep away from the bush block as the does wouldn't tolerate him at all Beau tried to do it but his curiosity was strong and he snuck into the bush block anyway, he tracked Jane's scent and found a tightly curled fawn heavy with Jane's scent

"HI! IM BEAU!" Beau barked but far too loudly...

Jane was feeding in the paddock when she heard Beau's excited bark from the bush block

her ears flattened as she saw the other does at the edge turn and run to defend their fawns

"BEAU! RUN!" she yelled as she too ran to the bush block hearing Beau's pained yelps before a loud howl of pain erupted, the farmer hearing the commotion struggling to start the ATV...

Beau was jumping and running but everywhere he ran he found another doe and their sharp hooves were crashing around him, no longer small a lot of them were connecting until one caught his back leg the full weight of the doe catching it at an odd angle snapping the bone within Beau yelled in pain but not able to avoid them anymore the blows knocked him to the ground as they broke ribs and when it looked lost there was a crash and loud thud from above him.

Jane smashed her body into the circle of does around Beau's injured body kicking out and attacking the other does chomping her jaws drooling at them as she stood over Beau the other does backed off then left to check on their fawns as Beau gasped for breath under her.

"Beau hold on the farmers coming " the high pitched roar of the atv dropping and rising again quickly as it changed gear

"J... Jane..."

"Beau be quiet save your strength"

"Ja...ne Yo...ur fawn... is ... Beau...tiful" Beau gasped before coughing up blood

"Beau? BEAU! NO! HOLD ON!" Jane bleated, her bleats drawing the farmer to run to the location, he saw the does keeping their distance weary of Jane as he approached Jane stepped aside but it w too late, Beau looked up at the farmer with sorrow and love in his eyes managing to wag his tail twice before looking back at Jane his eyes closing as his body shook in convulsions.

"Fuck!" the famer exclaimed quickly scooping Beau up in his arms and running back to the ATV the other does moved to attack him until Jane put herself between them making it perfectly clear she would kill any of them if they took another step. "

Jane didn't relax until she saw the ATV skid to a halt as the farmer put Beau in the truck scream off down the road to the vets

when the dust cleared Betty spoke from a safe distance her fawn at her side

"Jane.. I'm sorry."

"Why? You didn't attack him."

"No you don't understand follow me"

reluctantly Jane did Betty leading her to the top paddock and a wooden cross under a tree the name "Zippy" writing upon it

"What?" Jane asked

sniffing Betty's hard surface shattered

"I tried to spare you my pain" she sobbed

"Zippy was my friend he was the farmers dog when I was a fawn"

"But one day I found him trying to play with my fawn, I don't know what happened after that everything went red when I looked he was under my hooves and wasn't moving... I...i killed my best friend" Betty wailed collapsing to the ground over her friends grave

"I tried to prevent you from making the same mistake but I failed!"

At that moment they heard the sound of the truck returning slowly seeing it stop on the road for a moment before it came up the driveway the farmer getting out and leaning on the side of the cab before slamming his fist down on the roof repeatedly the sounds of his crying confirming Jane's worst fears.

Beau wasn't coming back.
