-one week since last events-
It was late, the sun was slowly disappearing behind the horizon of trees as the forest began to fall silent to the daytime wildlife and come to life with the sounds of the dark. We were all inside the cabin and getting ready to go to sleep.
"Come on you three settle down its bed time" I said rubbing one eye.
They didn't seem to be paying much attention to me so Bruce let out a low growl which seemed to do the trick as they quickly scampered off into their basket. I got into bed and Carl lay down beside my bed on his cushions.
"Bruce would you like a blanket its cold tonight" I said half eyed staring at him as he took up his usual position in the corner of the room. He didn't lie down to sleep he just seemed to stand still like a statue.
"No thank you ill be just fine"
"Ok then, good night everyone" I said yawning as I turned out the glow lamp.
Three... maybe four hours passed I couldn't be sure all I know is I was awoken by Bruce leaning over me.
"Christen! Christen!" he said quietly yet with a sense of urgency.
"Mmmmmm what is it Bruce" I said rolling over.
"You have to get up... NOW!" He was never aggressive towards me ever but he was staring at me with wide eyes glowing and an angry tone.
I sat up slowly and went to reach for the lamp.
"NO, keep the lights off" I looked at him puzzled
.
"Something's coming through the woods there big, there's three of them. There moving fast and coming towards us. Everyone wake up NOW!" he said with a strict tone. The other quickly got up and moved over to the bed.
I can't explain exactly what it was that was happening at that moment but they all seemed to become like robots just stood there waiting heads turning every few seconds to pin point the direction in which the noise was coming.
"THERE" said Carl quickly as the others stopped moving. "Directly east heading for the front of the cabin" the others quickly turned to confirm Carl's statement. Then I felt something it was kind of like adrenaline but without the aggression and hot headedness. I noticed it in the others as well their muscles grew slightly seeming to taughten and go rigid as if they'd been working out for a year. I could feel myself doing the same but not to the same extent as them my biceps and thighs grew slightly and went rigid as if ready to fight.
Then I could hear it. The noise they were on about, it was vehicles not of Ork make as they didn't clatter and bang no it was humans. Two wheeled trucks and a tracked one charging through the forest towards us, I jumped out of bed and quickly put some clothes on.
"Christen, put your armour on" said Carl
I hastily put on my Kevlar vest and thigh pads. Then stood behind Carl looking out the window, I could see the light in the distance from their head lights.
"Whatever you do, do not leave this cabin" said Bruce looking at me with concern. I gave him a swift nod and looked out the window.
Screeching to a half the trucks all came into view about 20 metres from the cabin. I could hear people talking and shouting, too many to make out any sort of sentence. I covered my eyes as spotlights came through the window lighting up the outside of the cabin. Then a voice came over a loud speaker.
"Hey hey boy how's it goin?"
No it couldn't be I thought to myself as I remembered the last person to call me boy.
"Its ur old pal David, you not gunna come out to say hello"
"I THOUGHT WE HAD A DEAL" I shouted to him.
"Well turnin up with a black stag pelt kinda gets some questions asked now dun it , an my pals hear wanted to come see you and your little menagerie of 'friends' as you call em"
"GUYS NO" I screamed as the rippers made a dash for the dog flap. I managed to grab Sid and Shawn but Larry was too quick and ran out the door.
"Ho ho what's this, a little rat coming to try and bite me awwww, KILL IT!"
"NOOOO" I screamed as I ran to the window only to see Larry shot by a las pistol.
As Larry lay there bleeding something happened to me. My mind went blank yet I knew exactly what I was doing. I felt the adrenaline substance again but this time stronger, my muscles grew huge almost tearing my clothes my eyes disappeared behind a misty glow just like the others and I felt no reason to speak only to communicate telepathically to them.
"Bruce, kill them... ALL of them" as I said that he leaped with great force straight through the roof.
"THERE THERE SHOOT IT" the men screamed as Bruce came crashing down onto one of the trucks crushing a man's body beneath him. He turned and shot his chest tendrils straight through another man then grabbed another in his claws and jumped off into the forest. All they could hear was screams of horror and pain.
"AHH AHH NO NO PLE*gurgle*" was heard as the men fired blindly into the darkness.
Being occupied with shooting Bruce none of them noticed Carl charge from the cabin straight towards a truck. He crashed himself straight into the side of the tracked one sending it tipping over throwing four men into the woods and crushing another man's legs beneath it. Bruce appeared next to the four men that had been flung into the darkness impaling two of them onto his shoulder claws and jumping back off into the dark.
"RUN FOR IT RUUUUUN" one man shouted as he tried to run away. He fell thinking he had tripped until he turned around to notice Shawn had chewed his ankle off to prevent him running. "AHHHHHH" he screamed as he tried to shuffle backwards only to have Sid jump onto him and start biting through his chest easily cutting through the bone. I stepped out of the cabin now a good 6 foot 8 inches or more as I looked around to see the men running around like insects.
"FUCK THIS IM OUTTA HERE" I heard a man say. How I do not know with all the noise going on it amazed me how I could pin point his words and where he was. He was sat in the driver's seat of one of the trucks, I heard it grind into gear and wheel spin off. "No" I said quietly to myself as I concentrated fully on the fuel tank of the truck to see a green sliver of lighting spew forth from my forehead and charge directly at the tank. A slight pause followed by a huge explosion that lit up the surrounding area as a man suddenly noticed Bruce staring him in the face previously unable to see him because of the darkness. Muffled cries were all that were heard as Bruce encased his head within his tendrilled mouth biting and crushing his skull.
The man crushed beneath the truck was still struggling to get free even going to the length of cutting one of his legs off to try and get out GRRRR he looked up to see Shawn and Sid diving down onto his face teeth gnawing and biting away.
Then in the chaos I saw him David the one to start all this. I slowly began walking towards him he was too occupied trying to shoot Bruce as he jumped in and out of sight cutting down his men. A man shot me trying to hit my heart but it bounced from my Kevlar I turned to see him already being pummelled into mush by Carl. Two more screams were heard then silence only David's heavy breathing as he smacked his gun trying to make it fire. But it was empty.
"YOU" I shouted now only 5 metres from him. He turned to look at me then turned around ready to run only to be blocked by Carl. He turned again to run but Bruce landed in front of him clutching a severed head in one claw and half a torso still hanging from his shoulder claw. Again he turned this time on the spot knowing that the rippers were behind him ready to stop his escape.
"WHY" I asked staring him straight in the eyes. He slowly walked towards me hands heled out to the side.
"Hey they offered me good money to show them where you lived"
"So you broke our promise because of some money!"
"Hey it's just business kid" he said looking at me with a smirk.
"Well if that's the case"
"AHHH AHHH" he screamed holding his head in his hands falling to his knees. "STOP IT STOP IT!" he yelled shaking manically around. "YOU CANT DO THIS TO ME" his screams got louder and louder as blood began appearing in his ears. Then just as his screams hit the loudest I stopped the pain.
"Oh and David" I said bending down to look him in the eye "It's just survival"
"AHHHHH *bang*" was heard as his head exploded in a shower of blood and brains.
Twenty minutes later Bruce had piled up the bodies onto the burning truck well what bodies he could wrestle away from the rippers as the devoured every one they could see.
"What happened to me Carl?" I asked him now back to normal.
"You used your adrenal gland like we did, we use it when we battle it makes us stronger and faster"
"But the lightning and making his head explode?"
"That was a tyrant's power; we do not have that ability"
"But I don't know how I did it"
"Does it matter? What matters is you used it to defend yourself.... and us"
"I'm just glad you guys are ok" I said hugging Carl.
"Were just glad you're safe Christen"
"We will have to move soon" said Bruce "more will come looking for them at some point"
"Yea" I said walking back into the cabin. I gathered what I could spices, herbs, pots, fire lighters anything that wasn't too big or unnecessary and crammed them into my bag.
Walking back outside I picked up Larry's body, he felt so cold and was as hard as a rock. "Christen" I heard Sid and Shawn say in unison "please let us eat him it's what he would have wanted" with a sigh I laid him down in front of them and turned around. I couldn't bare to watch it. After 5 minutes I walked over to the only truck left and opened the door "WOAH" I yelled as I was confronted by half a body "bloody hell" I said as I tipped it out of the truck.
"Carl, Bruce you guys get on the back. Sid and Shawn you're in front with me" they all jumped onto the truck and I started the engine. I'd never really driven before so it was a bit juddery at first but I got it moving.
"Where are we going Christen?" I heard Carl ask.
"I don't know Carl.... I don't know"
