An Unlikely Companion chap. 1

It was a dark and miserable night as rain was pounding down on the roofs below. On one particular house, the rain was being muffled by the works of a stereo system. The source was coming from the room of Chad Rouse. Chad was a 16 year old arctic wolf who had dyed the tips of his hair black, had emerald green eyes, and was quite unusual compared to the normal teenager. For starters, he always seemed to be locked in his room after school with music constantly going until it was time for him to go to bed. Chad wasn't much of a social animal since he never seemed to interact well with other animals. No one could tell if he was depressed or just shy since he almost never spoke unless someone spoke to him. The one thing Chad did with all that spare time was draw, write, or anything else that he could use his creative side for. He had multiple stakes of sketchbooks and notebooks filled with many different stories, drawings and other pencil formed creations. Tomorrow would be a Monday which meant school for the young canine who is a sophomore in high school. Chad glanced up at his clock and figured out how much time he had left before he had to go to bed and worked on his things before he would go to sleep.

__

The next morning as his alarm rang out, Chad crawled out of bed and slipped into his clothes. His school was forced to uphold the dress code while still maintaining freedom of dress since a lot of kids we're violating the dress code. They we're coming in sluttier and sluttier and with their pants low enough, that they're practically dragging them around on the ground. Today the weather was rather chilly for a day in the middle of April so Chad put on his favorite grey jacket that had a black tribal hawk on the back of it while on the front it had a simple white skull with white demon wings coming out of the side. Underneath, Chad just had a shirt that he had actually created himself just by splattering black paint on a simple white tee-shirt. Chad then slipped on a pair of black jeans that were faded along the sides and torn slightly at the knees.

After he was all dressed up, Chad made sure his hair looked ok, got his things, then put his headphones on and went out the door for school at South Rockbridge High.

Chad's first class of the day was science. Despite having to hear the constant crap coming out of everyone else's mouths, Chad liked this class.

As the bell for class rang, a tall, rather buff chocolaty brown husky came in the room just in the nick of time.

"Saved by the bell Will." the teacher remarked while starting up the class. The teacher, Miss Hepinger, or Miss H, was a young feline about 30 who's coat was a golden yellow and had a few spots of white on her underbelly.

"Sorry Miss H, but I woke up late and had to hurry over here." Will said while catching his breath.

Will was pretty tall compared to everyone else in his class. He stood almost 6'2 and weighed roughly 190 lbs. It was safe to assume that Will was the most popular guy in the 10th grade since he was the quarterback for the JV football team. Will seemed to be just the perfect guy for anyone, he was good looking, strong, caring, and had a good sense of humor. The only fault that could be seen is that he was unorganized and didn't keep track of time so he was almost always running late.

"Well as long as you made it here on time. Now take your seat so we can begin." Miss H then directed him to his seat.

Suddenly papers bombarded the floor as Will's backpack and come apart, releasing just about everything in his big compartment, right behind to Chad's desk.

"Aww man!" Will shouted as he tried to get his stuff put in order.

As other kids were laughing at his misfortune, Chad got up out of his chair and started to help Will. Suddenly the class became silent within seconds as the students saw what was taking place.

"Is that weird kid actually helping Will? Does he know who he's dealing with?" someone muttered in the class.

As the mess was finally cleared, Will turned to thank his helper but saw that he had already gone back to his seat so he decided to keep moving. For the rest of the period, the class was really focused on Chad, and he realized this and wished they could divert their attention.

It was now 5th period which was Chad's lunch period. He sat at his usual abandoned table and started to work on his drawings while eating his packed lunch. As he was finishing his lunch, Chad had a guest arrive at his table, which usually never meant good for him.

The brown husky known as Will was the person who now sat across Chad.

"I just wanted to come by and say thanks back there in science." Will said with a slight smile on his face.

"It wasn't that big of a deal really, you didn't have to come and say anything to me. I know how you guys don't want your rep to be ruined by talking to me." Chad said not looking at Will dead on.

"Rep? Please, I don't care about that. You saved me a lot of trouble and I just wanted to say thanks." Will then glanced down and studied what Chad was drawing. It seemed to be two swords crossed together, forming an "X" in the light of the full moon. It was so vivid and detailed that Will first thought he was looking at a photograph.

"Whoa, that's a sweet drawing. I never knew you could draw so well." Will remarked while lost in the art.

Chad snickered on the inside since Will, nor anyone in school, knew anything about him other than that he's always quiet. Still it felt good to get praise from someone other than his parents.

"Thanks, but I'm still working on it." Chad said while meeting his eyes for the first time.

Chad then noticed that Will's eyes were almost a beautiful shade of blue that seemed to go perfectly with his fur color. Chad was almost at a loss for words until he felt his pencil slip out of his hand.

The two both reached down to grab it and almost bumped heads underneath the table.

"Oh, sorry Chad." Will said while letting Chad grab the pencil and looking away. As they resurfaced their heads, Chad saw that Will had a slight blush on his face along with a strange look.

The husky's expression seemed to revert back to normal as footsteps were getting closer and closer to the table. A scaly hand then put itself on the table which as the hand of Nick, an iguana that was as cold and ruthless as the blood that would run through him on a cold winter night.

"You telling this looser to leave you alone? I can help you if you want." Nick said while cracking his knuckles.

"No Nick, I'm just thanking him for helping me in science." Will said while glancing up at Nick then back down at Chad with a look of sorrow.

"Still don't see why you're hanging out with this freak." Nick said while flickering his tongue at Chad in spite. Chad didn't feel like having his self esteem crushed so he gathered his things and left. Will then rose up and confronted Nick.

"Man why'd you do that for? You could have hurt the poor kid."

Nick just smirked. "Why do you care? That guy's nothing but an outcast."

Will sighed then shook his head at Nick while running off towards Chad.

"Hey Chad wait up!" Will shouted while catching up to him. Chad didn't stop until Will cut him off in front of him.

"Hey I'm sorry for what Nick said back there. He's just a jerk that can't stand it when I try to do something nice." Will said while looking back at his so called friend in disappointment.

"What he said was true though and you know it... I'm nothing but an outcast and a freak." Chad muttered while lowering his gaze. Will then raised Chad's chin and looked him in the eyes.

"You're not an outcast or a freak. You're a talented drawer that I'd love to get to know someday." Will said while smiling brightly, hoping to cheer him up.

It seemed to work.

Chad's eyes were starting to tear up, not with sadness but of joy, as he then embraced Will with a hug. Will was a little shocked by this sudden affection but then grasped his arms around Chad and pulled him in tighter. Chad could almost taste his wonderful scent that smelled delightfully sweet like honey. He felt wonderful as he was comforted by Will's hard abs, yet soft fur. Chad then snapped back to reality as he felt Will's heartbeat and went over what had just run through his mind then quickly broke free.

"You ok Chad?" Will said while trying not to show his disappointment.

"I'm fine, I'm.. fine. I just, needed some air." Chad said while twitching his ears, trying to rub off his emotions.

"I see, sorry about that." Will said while looking away slightly. "Tell you what, to make it up from hat Nick said to you, how about we hang today at my place after school?"

Chad started to sway his tail at his first invitation to hang out in years. "R-Really? Well alright." Unlike the past few pranks some people have pulled on Chad, he knew that Will really meant it when he wanted to hang out today.
