Detective Clip, Jackalope of the law, tracks down a smuggling operation.

~ It was on a calm morning that Detective Clip tucked into one of the several diners that the old neighborhood was known for, setting herself down onto one of the stools along the bar. She reviewed the menu for a moment, before calling over to the waitress.

~ "Can I get these johnnycakes with pricklefruit on them?", smiling calmly as the waitress approached with a glass of water.

~ "Sure thing; we just got a batch in yesterday. Want any sides?", the goat pointing to the listing of sauted kale, "I'm rather fond of the greens, myself."

~ Clip shook her head, "Nah; I'll stick with the cakes."

~ That evening, the detective found herself in her hotel room, gazing out into the dimly lit sunset across the rocky horizon. Her phone rang, the jackalope sighing as she picked up.

~ "Yeah. Yeah. I'm still on the case."

~ A pause, with only a tone of annoyance from the other end of the call audible into the room.

~ "I'm following up on leads; I'll contact you when I have anything solid.", the Detective hanging up before the gazelle could deploy any harsher a tongue.

~ To the morning following, the sky was an inky mix of blues and blacks as the sun cast its shadow down upon the hotel.

~ A bit of a walk away, Detective Clip slipped into a diner. This one was a bit busier than the previous day's diner, though a waiter seated the Detective at a table. With a moment's glance to the menu, the jackalope looked up to the panther.

~ "Could I get these hoe cakes with pricklefruit on them?", to the waiter's hussled nod. No recommendations of accessories followed, though the cakes were served with a tall glass of water.

~ Under the fading sky of the evening that followed, Detective Clip remained a sprawl out on her bed listening to the shouts and splashes of the hotel pool. It was with an audible groan that she answered the ringing phone.

~ "Yeah. Yeah. I'm still on the case."

~ A pause, with only a tone of rage from the other end of the call audible into the room.

~ "I'm still following up on leads; I'll contact you when I have anything solid.", the Detective hanging up before the gazelle could deploy any harsher language.

~ Out into the brisk chill of the morning that comes before sunrise, Detective Clip ducked into an out of the way diner. The waitress was still setting up a few tables at the far end, greeting the arrival of the jackalope with, "We're open; menus are on the table. Feel free to seat yourself; I'll be with you once I get the grill started."

~ After a quick glance at the menu, Clip called out to the waitress in the back, "Can I get these journey cakes with pricklefruit on them?"

~ When her meal was complete and the jackalope was settling the tab, she inquired of the squirrel, "Those were great; though pricklefruit is amazing when fresh. When do y'all get deliveries?"

~ The squirrel smiled back, pleased at either the compliment of cooking or the generous tip, "Weekly; the next shipment's in two days. Feel free to come back, we can fix them up for you right off the truck!"

~ In the park after lunch, Detective Clip made a phone call.

~ "I'm still on the case, yeah. And I got a lead; I've found a bottom link of the supply chain of grey market goods getting offworld from your colony."

~ The wider park could hear nothing, though the jackalope's immediate vicinity could hear tones of confusion and uncertainty.

~ "Because y'all's water table makes the crops taste funny. I'll explain it in my report.", hanging up before the gazelle could think of any more questions.
