Ch16. Getting ready.

Kyo opened his eyes and looked up to master with a smile, the wolf was already awake when the human looked up at him. "I'm going to go get something for us to eat." Icewaver said as he kissed Kyo on the forehead while slipping out of the bed. The human laid his head and closed his eyes when the wolf disappeared behind the door.

Icewaver quickly ran down the hall as fast as he could, the two little nap took more time than he would have liked. He reached the door to the dining room and quietly slipped in but it didn't help as everyone stopped eating their meal to look at the wolf that walked through the door.

"Where have you been?" Galle asked.

The wolf slowly walked up to him and stared at the floor. "Ummm...Father pup woke up and I figured that since he was awake I took him to my room a..." the wolf was cut off when the alpha raised his paw.

"I get the point say no more," he pointed at the empty chair that still occupied the table. "Sit."

Icewaver rubbed the back of his neck with his paw nervously. "Father, I was kind of wondering if it was ok with you," the wolf took a deep breath. "I was hoping to eat in my room with pup. You know to keep him company."

The alpha tapped his finger on the table in frustration, dinner was a time for family to sit down and be a family. He felt a paw rest on his hand, the wolf looked to his right and saw his wife smiling at him.

"Hun, I know how you feel about family eating at dinner but have you forgot that pup is also part of the family." She said softly.

Galle smiled at her, "Yes your right."

The wolf looked at his son and nodded. Icewaver grinned as he turned and walked towards the kitchen to get the meals for him and his pup.

Kyo was resting when he heard the door to the bedroom open quietly, He slowly opened his eyes slightly till he seen a human standing beside him. His eyes went wide when the human quickly reached out and grabbed him by the throat, as weak as Kyo is he quickly lost his breath and struggled to get it back. The human's hold tighten on Kyo make him close his eyes in pain, he let out a groan as the human put more force on him.

Kyo slowly moved his hands onto the human's arms to try and force him off but Kyo was just too weak.

"It's all your fault." He said sternly, "Because of you Talons died a horrible death."

Kyo's eyes started to tear as the pain started to become unbearable, "I know it was you because he told all the humans to come after you if he didn't kill you." The human started to laugh. "It looks like I get to have that chance." Kyo started to go dizzy as his throat was being slowly crushed.

They both heard a loud crash coming from the door. Before the human could look up at whom it was he was quickly picked up by his own throat and forced up agents the wall high above his attackers head. The human opened his gripped the wrists and opened his eyes, they soon went wide when he saw Icewaver holding him by his throat. Kyo coughed a couple of times as lost air quickly went into his lungs, he rolled over onto his side and looked at his master. He looked in fear not at his master but a beast. Icewaver had his fangs showing and his claws extended out, growling loudly at the human. The wolf quickly turned around and threw the human onto the floor, the human groaned in pain as he landed heavily. The human rolled onto his feet and tried to run out the door but felt pain on his back. Kyo watched in horror as the human fell onto the floor and Icewaver stood above him, his claws dripping with blood.

Icewaver pushed the human over with his foot, he knelt down and gripped the human once more by the throat. He raised his fist high in over his head and slammed it hard into the face below him. He repeated the assault a couple of times before standing over the body. It wasn't long till some wolves came running through the door way.

"Sir we heard a noise, is every..." the wolf stopped in mid sentence when he saw the bloody body.

"Get him out of here now." Icewaver yelled. The wolves didn't hesitate and grabbed the human and ran took him away as quickly as possible, while not making a mess. Icewaver slowly turned around and all anger went away when he saw his pet curled up in a ball on the bed, he slowly moved over to Kyo and placed a paw on his pup. Kyo instantly moved away in fear and fell off the bed, Icewaver jumped up and over in concern for Kyo when he seen him fall and grip his chest.

"Pup, hold still." He said while reaching out to the human.

Kyo just scooted into the corner and covered his face so he wouldn't look at the wolf.

"Pup..." Icewaver said softly as he tried to get closer to his human but Kyo just wouldn't let him near him. "I'm not going to hurt you pup." Icewaver softly placed his paw on Kyo's shoulder but felt hurt when Kyo shivered a little and tried to move away, the wolf slid his paw behind the human and pulled him close while the other paw reached around.

Kyo tried his best to get away from the wolf but when he looked back up at Icewaver he seen in those eyes that it wasn't the beast he just seen and was afraid of, but his love and master. Kyo instantly wrapped his arms around Icewaver and hugged him tightly, tears rolling down his face as he was no longer able to hold back his emotions. Icewaver sadly looked down at his pup while placing his paws in the humans head.

"I'm sorry pup," he said softly. "I failed in protecting you. I should have been here."

Kyo shook his head while gripping the wolf tighter. "Never." Kyo said.

The wolf looked down at Kyo in confusion. "Never what pup?"

"I never want to see that look in your eyes again." He said in between sobs.

Icewaver felt even more hurt. 'He's afraid of me,' he thought. Icewaver slowly motioned Kyo to stand, once up he moved Kyo to the bed and laid him down. Icewaver slowly moved beside his pet and held him close, he was now afraid of what can happen to him. The wolf knew that if one human tried to hurt the human in that short of time that he was away then he was afraid of what can happen to his pup if he had to leave for the whole day. 'I...I have to.' He thought as a tear came down his face and he rested his head on Kyo's and tears flowed freely down his face late into the night.

It was early in the morning when Icewaver was sitting beside his pet. The human was sleeping softly, the wolf didn't sleep an ounce due to so much concern. The wolf stroked his pets cheek while thoughts of how he can solve this problem. He knew that the family can't just get rid of all the slaves, his father won't want the time needed to train them on how things are ran at the palace. He wanted the human to be safe and happy, the wolf knew he wasn't doing a good job.

'What can I do?' The wolf has been asking himself that question all night but he kept coming to only one conclusion. The wolf shook his head of the idea but he knew he had to do it if his pup was to be safe.

Icewaver slowly lifted the human off his lap and set him softly onto the bed. The wolf quietly slipped out of the room and walked down the hall. He was looking all over the palace till he saw some wolves on guard, the wolf quickly ran up to them and called them out. The wolves turned and quickly came to attention when they saw who it was.

"I need you to go to my room and stay on guard." They all looked at each other but nodded and walked slowly over to the room. Icewaver preyed that he can trust them and headed out of the palace. He slowly walked down streets looking at the ground as he walked, occasionally running into some wolf now and then. Everyone knew that something was wrong with him but they didn't ask as he continued his walking. Eventually he came to a small cottage near the edge of town, he walked up to the door and knocked on it. The door opened slowly as the wolf stood in the door way and smiled.

"You know I'm starting to think I should set aside a small portion of my time for you in the morning." The wolf smiled.

Icewaver just looked up at him, ears half back. "May I come in?"

"I can see the way you look its serious." The wolf said as he turned and walked into the small cottage.

Icewaver slowly walked inside, he looked around and let out a small chuckle. The wolf of course heard and turned around, looking curious at his friend. "What's so funny?"

"Well..." Icewaver started, "It's hard to believe that the great slave catcher Tags that is known across the lands to supply the best wild slaves on the market doesn't even own one." The wolf smiled.

Tags scratched the back of his head. "Yeah well I don't have time to stay and take care of one, I'm always out." The wolf sat in his chair near the window. "Now what is it you wanted to talk about?"

Icewaver's smile faded as he looked out the window Tags sat near. "I need info from you and a favor."

Tags glared at the wolf as Icewaver started to talk.

Kyo slowly opened his eyes and frowned when he saw that his master wasn't by his side. He sat up and slipped out of bed, after placing his feet on the floor and he tried to stand, Pain instantly shot threw his chest and he fell onto the floor. The door instantly opened and a wolf came rushing in.

"Are you alright?" He asked as he knelt beside Kyo.

The human just shook his head as he looked up and saw that the wolf was smiling at him and had his paw out to him. Kyo slowly took it and was slowly lifted up and was placed onto the bed.

"Sir you need to be more careful, you're not fully healed yet." The wolf said gently.

Kyo looked up at the wolf confused. "You just called me sir."

The wolf chuckled as he smiled at the human. "Yes, you were deemed the families pet, and that means you're part of the family. So naturally we have to call you sir, but you're still a slave though." Kyo nodded.

"Do you know where my master went?" Kyo asked.

The wolf shook his head. "The young lord didn't mention. He just told me and Frusk to stand guard."

Kyo looked at the floor, 'why didn't he tell me where he went.' Kyo thought. The guard smiled and ruffled the human's hair as he stood.

"I wouldn't worry about lord Icewaver, he'll be back soon enough." The wolf said as he stepped out.

Kyo just laid back onto the bed, and stared out the window. Thoughts of his master racing threw his head.

"Are you sure this is what you want?" Tags said as he held the pouch of gold in his paws.

Icewaver nodded. "Yes." The wolf said while standing up and walking out the door. "Thank you Tags."

Tags tossed the pouch onto the table and watched the wolf walk outside and into the town.

Icewaver soon walked through the doors of the palace and up the nearest set of stairs, he headed to one of the study rooms. Once he found the room he was looking for, he slowly opened it and walked in. the wolf sighed with some relief that he indeed found the right room as his father was sitting at a table silently reading some letters. Icewaver walked in quietly and took the seat next to the alpha.

"What's on your mind boy?" The wolf asked.

"I need a favor." The wolf said.

Galle placed the letters down and looked up to his son giving him his full attention. "What is it you need?" the wolf asked.

Icewaver looked at the floor as he started to tell his father everything.

Kyo waited patiently when he heard the door open, he sat up on the bed a smile came acrossed his face when he saw Froshen came walking into the room and onto the bed beside the human. "How is the young lord?" Kyo asked.

Froshen's tail wagged rapidly, "I'm good, but..." his tail started to slow down, Kyo saw the pup's gaze fall onto his chest, "How are you doing pup? I mean with the injury and all."

Kyo reached out and started to scratch behind the pup's ears. "Still sore, hurts when I stand, but other than that I'm not doing too bad."

Froshen laid his head down on the human's lap as Kyo continued to pet him. 'Such a puppy.' Kyo smiled while thinking to himself.

"Froshen have you seen my master?" Kyo asked after a while.

The pup sat up and nodded. "I saw him go to the study where granddad is."

The human looked downward thinking. "I wonder what he's doing, I haven't seen him since I woke up."

Froshen just shrugged as he hopped off the bed, "I don't know but I have to get going before my tutor finds me." The pup giggled and rushed out of the room once more leaving Kyo by himself.

"Everything should be ready for you in about two hours." Galle said as he leaned back in his chair.

Icewaver stood up and headed out into the hall, "Thank you father."

'I hope this is what you want.' The Alpha thought to himself as he watched his son leave his sight.

Icewaver headed down the hallway and up the first flight of stairs he came to. He walked up to the guards standing in front of his room. "Anything happen while I was gone?" The wolf asked.

One of the guards shrugged. "He had a small fall when he tried to get up and was visited by young lord Froshen but other than that nothing else had happen."

Icewaver nodded as he patted the wolf on the shoulder. "Thank you, you both may leave now." The wolves bowed and both made their way down the hall.

Icewaver walked through the lounge and into his room, he walked up to the bed and smiled when he saw his pup waiting patiently for him. The wolf laid on the bed and placed his head on his pets lap.

"You have been gone a long time master." Kyo said while running his hands threw the wolf's head fur.

Icewaver let out a big sigh when he wrapped his arms around the human and pulled him closer. "Had lots of things to do."

The two just laid on the bed in each other's company, Kyo noticed that his master seemed more distant than usual. Icewaver just stared into space, Kyo didn't want to disturbed his master so he just left the wolf to his thoughts. The human just continued to pet the wolf as he was happy that the wolf was finally with him.

A knock on the door startled the wolf as he came out of his small daze, the door slowly opened and a female slave came in with two trays. "Umm...my lord, the alpha sent me here with your meals."

"Thank you, you can set them on the night stand." Icewaver said as he sat up. The female slowly walked over to the small table beside the bed and bowed to the two and headed out. The wolf did catch a glare from the girls as she walked out of the room.

The wolf reached over and brought the food over to them and set it on the bed. He took the covers off to reveal two pork chops and some veggies. They ate in mostly silence except for when Icewaver asked how the food was, Kyo nodded and said it was good then they went back to not talking. Kyo now is starting to get worried about his master, he was more cuddly and talkative, but now he seems more closed and lost in thought. The human stopped eating and just looked at the wolf with worried eyes, once Icewaver noticed his pup wasn't eating he looked up and seen how worried his pet was.

"Master, what's wrong?" Kyo asked.

Icewaver just looked away. "It's nothing pup, I'm tired I guess."

Kyo took their plates and moved them back onto the night stand. "Is it because of the other day?" Kyo asked now that he can get the wolf's full attention.

Icewaver nodded at his pet's question. "Master I'm fine, you don't have to worry about me." Kyo reached out and pulled his master close to him, the wolf jest let the human do as he wanted and leaned on his pet. Kyo kissed the top of the wolf's head and hugged him tightly.

'I wish I can believe that.' Icewaver thought. The wolf looked at the sun outside and frowned. "I'll be right back." He said as he got up and walked out of the room.

Kyo nodded, he grabbed his plate and continued to eat. The wolf left the room and headed down the hall then down the flight of stairs. Once he made his way out side he saw that everything was read, one of the wolves came up and bowed to him.

"My lord, I was just about to come and get you. Everything is ready as requested." Icewaver nodded as he walked back into the palace.

He walked into the room and saw his pup just finished his meal. "Come." Icewaver said as he walked up to the bed and helped Kyo up. As soon as his legs gave out Icewaver quickly scooped him up and walked out of the room. They made their way outside and Kyo looked up at his master confused at what he saw.
