LEAVING HOME!

By

Solarblaze Glazer.

2337.

The small young chakat stared out of the PTV window, feeling miserable and angry, but shi didn't know why. Shi had lost hir mom, which would make any young cub sad, but something else was making hir feel alienated from the other furs. Shi had been in fights, nasty vicious fights, where a few victims were taken to hospital.

Shi knew about hir chakamil heritage, but that didn't explain hir constant outbursts and solitary attitude to others. Only hir family was spared hir rage, such as it was.

Which raised the other reason shi was leaving Chakona. Shi had somehow gained some powerful and scary powers, pyrokenesis, the ability to ignite objects on fire and to create fire. Shi had accidently hurt hir father once, at school. And was expelled because of it. Now, shi was going to spend a few years with hir great grand mother, to learn how too control hir new found powers.

Looking back at the human who had sired hir, shi fought back a sniffle and whipped the tears from hir bright green eyes.

"Do I really need to go dad?" shi asked, hir ears flat in fear and misery.

"Yes Solar my sweet, you need to do this, you really don't wanna put someone else in hospital again, do you?" he replied, glancing once at his daughter, then back on the road again.

"No, but they did deserve it." shi said, a slight growl creeping in hir voice.

"No they didn't Solar, no one deserve to be burnt like that, especially me, remember?" he said, with a little authority in his voice, that made hir cringe and whimper. Shi had felt like dirt after hir father had suffered burns to his chest. Oh, it was superficial, nothing but a blistering of the skin and a ruined shirt, but it was enough to make hir curl up for 4 days, shivering and crying.

"Yes sir." Shi said, looking down at hir chest, tracing the paw pattern there, wondering if it was some sort of curse. It was a blue paw on a green circle on hir right chest.

"How long will I be gone?" shi asked, in a quiet voice.

"I'm not sure, it's up to Shir Maelstrom of that decision. Shi's going to be your legal guardian and carer during your time with hir. So, you must treat hir with the same respect and love that you do to your other family, understand." He said, reaching over to give hir a soft scritch behind the ear.

Solarblaze murred and smiled from his touch, a little happier than what shi was feeling before.

Soon, the drive came to an end, and they reached their destination. Amistad Interstellar Spaceport. Getting out of the PTV, Solarblaze grabbed hir bag and slung it over hir back, then followed hir father, hand in hand, to the private departure lounge.

A very old skunktaur was waiting for them, hy was leaning on a cane, supporting hym self.

"Well, hello Maelstrom, how are you this evening?" Stephan asked, smiling.

"As well as can be expected, what with avoiding pirates and the federation, and black holes, and white holes, and assholes..." Hy gave a giggle at that.

"Yes, that's very funny." He said, hugging the skunktaur.

"So, where is my great grand daughter then, hmm?" hy said, looking everywhere, but at Solarblaze.

"I'm right here Shir Maelstrom." Shi said, waving at the old shunktaur.

"Nooo, really? You can't be the little shit that's being causing trouble, surely?" hy said, looking closer at Solarblaze.

Solarblaze just looked down, dejectedly.

"Yes shir, I am." Shi replied.

"How old are you my child?"

"7 shir." Solarblaze said, looking at the old taur.

"7? No? Really? I was expecting a teenager at best, and young adult at worst, not a sweet young cub like you, this must be some kind of joke, hmmm?" hy said, glancing and Stephan with a look of disbelief.

"No joke Shir Maelstrom, our little Solar here, has some temper, and an uncontrollable power of destruction." He replied, rubbing the spot where his daughter had struck him on his chest.

The old skunktaur once again looked at Solarblaze, sizing hir up.

"Well, it looks like you'll be staying a few months with me at the least, a few years at the most." Hy replied, petting hir head softly. "Now, quickly get on board young one."

"Ok." Solarblaze replied, giving hir father a long hug which was followed by a kisslick to his cheek, before climbing the ramp to the interior of the shuttle.

"So Stephan, tell me about this trouble your daughter has been getting into, hmm." Maelstrom asked, resting on the cane again.

"Well, shi's been getting into lots of fights at school and in public, and now shi has been burning other humans and furs with hir new found power, which included me as well, although that was an accident." He replied, feeling very tired and sad.

"Well, I will be taking care of hir and teaching hir to control the new ability, so don't worry about a thing, shi's in good hands." Maelstrom smiled, hugging hys human family member.

"I sure hope shi comes back better than when shi left, and thanks for doing this."

"No problem, it'll give me the chance to get to know my great grand child, now, I gotta fly, so I'll see you some time, although I don't know when." Hy said, hugging Stephan before boarding hys personal shuttle.

Stephan watched the doors closed, and waved to Solarblaze as shi looked out of the portal at him, who waved back, a single tear trickling down hir face.

That was the last image of his 7 year old daughter he remembered before shi left to the vastness of space.
