Calm Waters Chapter Six

(Velvet)

(The night before)

The dark blanket of the night wrapped comfortably over the club as I walked to the stage. My slender frame hidden under the dress and though it was old fashioned at least no one could tell what I really was.

I walked up to the stage my short frame an advatage for once. They didn't come to the club though for my size. No they came for something a lot more pleasing to the ears.

I stepped onto the platform and the lights kicked on "Introducing the Lady Of Angelic Song Velvet!" said the MC and I was glad for my dark glasses that protected my eyes from the sudden glare of the spot lights. Thankfully it was breif and Once it faded I cleared my throat and adjusted my headseat before taking a single breath.

As I released it I was singing softly into the club. I need not raise my voice as it was heard all over the club. I sang of old friends reuinited of happy memories and shared smiles. Something that would be an easy start to the night.

I continued my piece and as I continued to sing the club goers were brought along on my journey. Heartbreak, Passion, Loss, Friendship, Love,Despair, All of these lit the club's mood and when I finished my last song and did my bow there was a standing ovation.

I slipped back stage intent to head to my room and slid quickly into my street clothes before mingling with the crowd. The human members of the Last Drop were required to wear a bracelt upon entry. This bracelet determined a few things for those of us that were of the blood drinking variety.

If it showed the black color then the wearer was intoxicated. Blue meant they were a willing donor with a clean test. Green showed they had something and weren't suitiable. Purple meant they weren't willing to donate.

Though as I looked around the club...I wasn't very satisifed with my choices. Though the subtle burn in the back of my throat as well as my rumbling stomach reminded me that I would have to go hungry another night if I didn't "eat" on this one.

I took one last carefull look around In my street clothes no one could tell that I had been the beatifull bat of angelic voice on stage. People expected to see a girl with my voice after all. Best give them what they want.

I turned to go and head home another night of hunger weighing on my mind. I wasn't a monster or a maytr but the lack of blood definitely turned my mood sour as I began to trudge home. True I could have flew but these clothes weren't well equipped for that and it was easier to stay unsuspected on the ground even if I was only about 4 ft tall.

As I walked towards my apartment I was not bothered. Who would ever mess with a small diminutive bat after all. Still when I got inside I got myself some tea. It wouldn't be enough to quell my hunger but it would distract me. As I turned on the TV to find something to watch while it boiled police siren's rent the night air.

I paid it no mind until it came awfully close to my dwelling. It did go past and I hazard a glance out the window. The whirling casacade of lights seemed to be heading to another club. I shrugged and wished the soon to be passenger safety while I started to steep my tea now that the water was done boiling.

The TV didn't seem to intrest me this night so I flicked it off and sipped my tea before moving to my perch to rest. Sure not all bats slept hanging upside down but it was soothng to me so I did such.
