Chapter 49: Reunions and Stories, Confidence Heart vs Shatter Heart

Anger Heart and Guidance Heart managed to usher the rescued hostages to the edge. Guidance helped Terrence and Defiant's parents into the still waiting cloud car. "Don't worry, I'll get you down to safety," she assured them as she got into the driver's seat and began their descent.

"I have to call James and let him know I'm still alive," Terrence dug out his cell phone once he was strapped in.

"Is Daniel alright?" his mother asked.

"He is, and quite happy." Guidance smiled but kept her eyes forwards, "I'll introduce you to his boyfriend later."

"Oh... I didn't know he was gay," his father's tone betrayed just how badly he felt that he didn't know this already.

Anger Heart looked at the now full cloud car then turned to his childhood friends, "No time to make another, hold on." He grabbed Brandon and Caleb around their waists and jumped off.

"Hey! Whoa!" Caleb wrapped his arms around Anger Heart, as did Brandon, as flames shot out of the six-tailed red fox's feet, slowing their descent to something easier.

"Since when could you fly? And since when did you have six tails?" Brandon finally noticed the extra tails flapping in the wind behind him.

"Not too long ago," Anger Heart smiled at the two, "Sorry I couldn't keep in touch over the summer."

"You look older and taller, what have you been up to for the last three months?" Caleb asked.

"It's hard to explain," Anger Heart looked down to make sure they weren't going too fast, keeping pace with Guidance's cloud car. "Basically we were sealed in a bubble where time flowed faster for everyone inside. The last three months for the rest of the world was three years for all of us. So yeah, I grew up a bit more and learned a lot more magic. I'm a kitsune now."

"Whoa," Brandon stared at him as they descended, "I hope you can fill us in more, Alex."

Anger Heart smiled, "I will, but later. I might be needed while this is going on." As if to make his point they heard a burst of energy nearby.

"Point taken," Brandon said.

Down in the park, the Care Bear Family was running around, grabbing children who kept trying to see the fights and delivering them to their parents while ushering anyone else in the area to safety, and fending off reporters.

"Look, mommy, unicorns!" A little girl tore away from her mother and towards Life Heart, Sage Heart, Wild Heart and Meek Heart.

Life Heart saw and ran over to intercept her. "Yes I am a unicorn but you have to go to your mother and get out of here," she scooped up the child who immediately grabbed on to her horn as Life Heart ran her over to her mother. "Here miss, get her out of here."

The mother took her daughter, but the girl didn't let go of Life Heart's horn. "Please let the horn go, we have to leave." The mother had to pry the girl's hand loose before she could leave.

Nearby, Noble Heart had run into another reporter and we doing his best to warn her off, with little success until Blade Star hit the ground nearby.

"This place is dangerous, if you want to cover the fights then do so from a safe distance," Noble Heart pointed away. The reporter and her cameraman took the hint and pulled away.

Shatter Heart swung his cutlasses at Confidence in mid air, but she dodged around them easily. "Hold still!" he demanded.

"Not a chance," Confidence dodged back and punched him square on the nose.

"Why you!" Shatter Heart took a deep breath and screamed, but Confidence Heart flew forwards and punched him in the mouth to shut him up. "Gah! Doesn't matter you'll die when we hit the ground and I'll still live, even if I am damaged."

Confidence Heart smirked, "One problem with that, glass brain."

"What?!"

"I can fly!" Confidence Heart turned a fast summersault in mid-air and kicked Shatter Heart towards the park with all her strength, cutting off a stream of curses from Shatter Heart before hovering in place to watch him hit the ground in the park, cratering the dirt.

"That won't kill him," Confidence cracked her knuckles, "time to finish this," she flew down.

Shatter Heart picked himself up and grabbed his sword up from where they had fallen, just as Confidence did a three-point landing in front of him. Confidence Heart's tummy symbol glowed and in a flash of light, metal armored guards appeared on her forearms and shins as she stood up. "Just you and me, Shatter Hear. Let's end this."

"I'll end you!" Shatter Heart charged and began swinging his cutlasses at her. Confidence was forced back as she deflected each blow with her arm guards. She ducked under one blow then swung at kick at his legs and knocked him off his feet. She was about to go in for an elbow drop when Shatter Heart let out a sonic scream that forced her to cover her huge ears to block it out.

"You're weak!" Shatter Heart jumped up, cutlasses still in hand, and charged. Confidence barely had time to jump away from his furious assault and bring her arms back up to bear. Shatter Heart jumped up and tried to slice down at her arms but Confidence blocked with one of her arm guards then ducked under his arms and punched Shatter Heart in the gut, sending him flying.

Confidence had to take a moment to catch her breath. She heard the fight between Blade Star, Flash and Indy nearby, especially their quick conversation with the ninja bear. She smirked, "So you're not even real are you?"

"I'm a golem, but I'm real enough!" Shatter Heart growled. "You're going to waste your life just like that idiot Soul Heart did, fighting for revenge!"

Nearby a cameraman was watching the battle with a huge grin on his face, "This is great, like real life shonen."

Confidence Heart heard the cameraman's whisper and smirked. "I'm not fighting for revenge, Shatter Heart," she punched her right hand into her open left palm, "I'm fighting to protect my family from you!" Confidence Heart charged under Shatter Heart's swords and delivered a pummeling to his stomach before upper cutting him on the jaw. Shatter Heart was launched off the ground by the hit but swung his swords up at her face, only to be blocked again by her arm guards before Confidence kicked him square between the legs, then was forced to dodge back to avoid his retaliation.

"Doesn't work on me!" Shatter Heart charged at her again.

"Getting sick of that!" Confidence Heart held her arms up to block his attacks again.

"How about THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS!" Shatter Heart screamed out a blast of sonic energy at point blank range. Confidence was thrown back and to the ground as her ears rang and just barely avoided the downward chop of the aether golem's swords.

Confidence was still having trouble hearing and her balance had been thrown off as Shatter Heart screamed out another sonic blast, this one she managed to avoid but the blast shattered a tree behind her and sent some observers scattering.

"Gotta get off the ground," Confidence jumped up into the sky and hovered overhead.

"Get down here!" Shatter Heart shouted up at her.

"What? Can't fly?" Confidence Heart taunted him. "Try and bring me down!" She made a 'come at me' gesture with her hand.

Shatter Heart growled then shouted, sending a small sphere of sonic energy up at her, which she easily dodged, then did so again and again forcing her to dodge back and forth, thankfully the blasts of energy exploding harmlessly overhead, though the blasts were making her already aching ears throb but she did her best to shut it out.

By now some of the people had become bolder and were gathering at a short distance away to watch the fight as Confidence Heart shot small blasts of wind down at Shatter Heart.

The golem bear laughed as a blast of air hit him, barely rustling his fur, "This is the level of your magic? How could you ever have beaten even that pathetic otter with this?"

"Like this!" Confidence Heart made a dive bomb at him, pulling up at the last second to avoid being sliced by his swords and then kicked Shatter Heart in the head and knocked him off balance.

"Gotta focus," Confidence Heart said her herself, "Gotta use it now or never." She took a deep breath and turned to Shatter Heart, feeling the magical energy focusing through her arms.

"I have had enough!" Shatter Heart looked up Confidence Heart, teeth bared.

Confidence Heart spread her arms wide, fingers clawed forwards, "KA!"

Shatter Heart threw his swords down.

Confidence Heart brought her hands together with the fingers pointing forwards, "ZE!"

Shatter Heart drew in a powerful breath.

Confidence pulled her hands behind her, "HA!"

Shatter Heart's chest expanded slightly as he held his breath.

Wind gathered in between Confidence's hands into a small sphere, kicking up winds underneath her, "ME!"

Shatter Heart cupped his hands around his mouth, and let out a powerful scream right as Confidence shot her hands forwards, "HA!!!!!!!!" A tight spiraling tornado of wind fired from between Confidence Heart's hands and struck the huge sonic blast that emanated from Shatter Heart's mouth.

Everyone watching was forced to cover their ears from the horrible sound that exploded outwards from the impact points. Confidence Heart gritted her teeth as she poured all her energy into the attack. While she had been training she'd learned to 'junction' magical energy around her body which had increased her strength, speed and durability but made it harder for her to do any external magic, other than light. She had to focus hard to project a kinetic blast with any kind of force. It was taking all her focus to keep the blast going and she felt the strain as the powerful sonic wave pushed her concentrated air blast back towards her.

Shatter Heart could never tire so he poured it on as much he could, seeing that the fennec was slipping up. Confidence was starting to sweat but kept it up despite the pain until she had to stop and Shatter Heart's sonic blast broke through and hit her full on, while she did her best not to fall out of the sky, or should she. She put one burst of wind through her feet to try and fly out of the way!

Shatter Heart didn't stop screaming, focusing his blast on her for as long as he could until he lost sight of her. He grinned up at where she had been, "I win!"

"KAZEHAMEHA!" Shatter Heart didn't have a moment to turn around as Confidence's concentrated twister blasted a hole right through his torso from behind.

Shatter Heart couldn't feel pain, but he knew he was badly damaged as he turned around, silver smoke pouring from his injury. Confidence Heart, despite her exhaustion didn't waste a moment and charged at him, bursts of wind flying from her feet and elbow as she delivered a powerful punch to what was left of the golem's torso. Shatter Heart snatched up his swords and slashed at her once again but missed completely as she weaved around his now much clumsier attacks and kicked the sword blades, snapping them in half. Shatter Heart could only stare at the broken weapons as Confidence spun around and, with one last burst of air, delivered a savage punch to Shatter Heart's head, taking it clean off.

There were gasps from the onlookers as Confidence stood there, panting while Shatter's Heart's body and head fell to the ground in separate places and began to dissolve. "Good riddance," Confidence Heart smiled and turned to the onlookers, "Relax, he was just a construct, and he was trying to kill my family. Excuse me, I need to make sure they're all alright." She took off into the sky as the golem's body dissolved into nothing.

The cameraman grinned as he watched the sandy fennec fly away, "I gotta get a copy of this for my own records. Everyone's gonna see this!"

"Yeah, I got hauled off to Canada by some freaky monsters... they look like Care Bears but they aren't... Yeah Cassandra's here and she's fighting them now..." Terrence was deep in conversation with his boyfriend James.

"Is Crafty here?" Brandon asked.

"Yeah but she's helping evacuate," Anger Heart replied.

"Hey, where's Germaine going?" Caleb turned to see the blue raccoon leading Defiant Heart's parents to where their son and Loyal Heart Dog had opted to stand guard to keep more civilians from entering the battleground.

"Here they are. Excuse me, I want to catch up with old friends," Guidance Heart turned and headed back to where Anger Heart, Caleb and Brandon were standing.

Defiant Heart turned from the crowd to face up at his parents. "Mom, dad."

"Hello, Daniel his father fidgeted nervously, unsure of what to say.

Defiant smiled and took Loyal Heart's hand, "I want you to meet my boyfriend, Loyal Heart Dog."

Loyal Heart bowed to them, "It's nice to meet you. Your son helped me out of a dark place in my life and now," he smiled at Defiant, "We're in love."

"I see," his mother nodded, "We never knew Daniel was gay... we never made the effort to know much about him I'm sad to say..."

"Defiant has told me as such," Loyal Heart said, "but you were still good enough to support him through his change and offer him financial support and a place to in your hearts, that's more than most neglectful parents are willing to do."

"Yeah. Thanks," Defiant let go of Loyal Heart's hand and stepped forwards to give his parents a hug around the legs, "I'm happy you're still alive."

Both his parents reached down to hug him back, "Thank you for coming."

They released each other, "Excuse me, mom, dad, I have to get back to crowd control."

"Get back, away from the fighting!" Loyal saw a kid trying to get past the line and ran to drag him back to the crowd before anyone else could surge past.
