Introduction to Manipulators: Courting and Mating
As with all creatures, courting and mating with manipulators is quite important. In manipulator society, it's the males that initiate courting, and the females that initiate mating. Also, a Male manipulator is formally referred to as a "meighn," and a female is a "meighnen." (pronounced "Mang" and "Mang-un")
Courting:
Say you're in college, and there's this really hot meighnen chattering with her friends down the hallway. You, being a respectable meighn, want to score with her. What do you do?
You cluck at her. As mentioned in "Linguistics and Phonetics," the manipulator language of love is the noises that chickens (and occasionally turkeys) make. The male (or female, as this works both ways) will approach a female (or male) and cluck at her. It's got no particular meaning, the initial "Bok," but it's one of the most complicated communications a manipulator can ever make. It's a compatibility check. The communication is entirely subconscious, even the male interprets it as just a sound. What's actually happening is the male is flashing his whole persona over to the females computer for compatibility review. The female doesn't know it, the male doesn't suspect it. He's just watching for her reaction.
The computer will interpret the "ISO" differently based on whether the female is looking more for friendship, looking for a mate, seeking a one night stand, or isn't looking at all. Once it's judged the male, it'll invoke one of a few different reactions.
The "Rejection"
Typically, this involves the (usually) much more dominant female either ignoring the male, or growling at him to scare him away. The ISO can be flashed to multiple females, however, so if one female rejects a male, her friend may have a totally different reaction.
The "I'll give you a change"
This is when the female is remotely attracted to the prospective male. Usually, she'll return the cluck, and let the male be in charge of the relationship for a while, to give the female a chance to adjust to him. You never know, after a few dates the reaction might be better.
The "Accepted"
This is when a female is actually very attracted to the male. In manifest, she'll turn and cheep at him, then take over the relationship in a female manipulators usual dominant style. Once a male knows a female accepts him as a possibility, his conversations with her will shift slowly to being entirely chicken. It's still conveying the casual message, but his clucking and crowing will also hold subliminal packets that the male isn't aware of. These packets induce hormone emissions in the female. Each one is like a pressure to mate, but it's coming from within her self. She'll battle these packets until she's either fed up with the guy, or totally in love with him and initiates mating. Usually, this take the guy totally by surprise and he's reluctant to mate. The term for initiating mating is "Mateship Rape" for a reason!
The "Instant Success"
This is the reaction every meighn wants from a meighnen. It's the "OMG, he's PERFECT in every way!" Basically, the reaction the females body will have will be that of an instant orgasm.
What exactly happens on an "Instant Success?" Well, for starters, the meighnen will jump. Maybe cry out a little. Remember, she's having an orgasm, here. After that, she'll either clamp her legs together and press her hands into her crotch to cover it, clamp her mouth shut with a bashful look and gulp rapidly, or do both. Her ears will pin back, she will look embarrassed, probably squirm a bit, and most importantly, the meighnen will whimper like a dog once her mouth isn't full of her semen (See "Manipulator Sexual Anatomy"). This whimper is very important. It's an automatic EchoX communication basically telling the meighn to tilt his head and cluck at her 3 times. The command will specify that the first cluck be drawn out, so it'll be like: "Braaaaawk brawk brawk..."
But what do these three clucks mean? Well, they, too, are EchoX commands! These commands calm the meighnen, and return her dominant nature. Once calm, she'll take over the relation ship. She won't invite the guy home and mate rape him right off (unless it's a casual affair). She'll go through the dating process, allowing him to seduce her further with his special little packets. Sometimes it'll be just one date, sometimes several. But with an "Instant Success," it's inevitable that the meighn and meighnen will mate (even if it's for only one night).
Keep in mind that all the complex analysis, comparings, and action-reactions with Parallel and EchoX are completely subliminal. The two manipulators will have no idea that they're happening beyond the females initial reaction, and her reaction to the meighn's seducive packets (which can range from subtle pleasures, like when given a compliment, to mini orgasms).
Back on the topic of how the female processes the males ISO. While this analysis factors in the females mood, it also factors in the males intentions. If the female isn't searching for anything when he approaches her looking form say, casual sex, the computer will run the idea by her concious brain very quickly before evoking a reaction. If it turns out that she could go for a good time, even though she wasn't looking in the first place, her reaction might end up being an Accepted or an Instant Success (even if they don't match up very well).
Mating:
As mentioned above, it's the male that initiates courting, but the female that initiates mating. This part will cover, briefly, how she goes about doing that.
So, the prospective mates have been going out for a while, having a good time getting to know each other. Finally, the girl just can't fight the guys little clucks and coos any longer. The urge they create in her is just too strong. So she invites him to her house takes him up to her nest and, no matter how much the stunned male protests and fights against it, forces herself upon him until he submits and gets into it. You could call it all out rape, or you could call it 'mild non-concentual.' I, myself, go with the latter term as the male DID approach the female first, and therefore he does want it. It's kind of a hard idea to explain. You just have to bare with the idea that most of the courting process is done without the two even being aware of it (unless they're searching for a one night stand, in which case they both know the outcome).
The Mateship Rape doesn't necessarily make the mating official. When searching for the kind of mate we humans would term a 'spouse,' mateship rape is more like a proposal of marriage. After they're done there, the announcements to family and friends can be made and then a ceremony held. Or the mating can be made official discretely by filling out a few forms downloaded from the ENIC.
Note that all the above rituals are the same whether the meighn approaches the meighnen first, the meighnen approaches the meighn (female is still dom), or in homosexual situations. In homosexual relationships, the more dominant member conducts the mate rape.
Also, manipulators always sleep and mate in a nest. It's not like a birds nest, exactly. It's basically a circular platform with a velvety padded depressed area on top. The nest can be small, for only one manipulator to curl up in, or it can be big, for two (or more) manipulators to curl up in. When I say 'curl up,' imagine how a dog sleeps.
