There he stood in a field with soft green grass under foot, blue sky overhead, with soft clouds in the distance, a soft calming breeze...and a forgotten name.

"Who am I?" the figure said to the air.

"..."

"...What you don't remember who you are?" said a familiar voice.

"What?" he said looking around for the voice. Then suddenly feeling a sharp pain in his chest he fell to one knee. "Agh! What the hell?...huh?" he said the pain suddenly gone. Slowly getting to his feet he felt a strange sense of change.

"W...What's going on here, where am I?"

"Maybe you should look at yourself."

"Wha...WOAH!" he yelled as he looked down at himself. He had no clothes on but that's not what really surprised him. What really caught his attention was the fact that he didn't have skin, instead he had what looked like scales. They were tightly packed and dark, very dark probably the darkest thing he had ever seen. On his shoulders running down to the middle of his upper arm was a elongated inverted crimson triangle with a thin outline of sapphire over very defined muscles. As he stared at his arms he noticed a strange feeling behind him, as he turned he let out a small gasp as he found what caused the sensations...a tail, he had a tail, and wings, large and powerful, but he had little time to wonder about that as he felt a pulling sensation on his face that turned into a dull pain that turned into a searing pain. He shut his eyes hard to shut out the pain, but had little need to as the pain stopped in only a few seconds. When he opened his eyes again he found that he was looking down a muzzle, with definite draconian features; sharp teeth, nostrils at the front just above his mouth. There was a flash of light and he started to scream as something embedded itself in his chest, and he slumped over on the ground, liquid crimson flowing from the wounds.

"NO!!!" she screamed as she sat upright in a strange setting, she was about to ask where she was when she felt someone embrace her from the side.

"Hey hey, its ok it was just a dream, your ok" said a masculine voice softly trying to calm her down. As she wrapped her arms around him and cried into his shoulder, wetting his shirt. Then the memories all came flooding back as she held the stranger;

Five days ago:

she was being held captive in a fortress of some kind. How she got there she didn't know, what she did know was that she heard talk that scared her. It seamed that she was important to some kind of ritual. that's when she started wishing and praying that she would be rescued.

Four days ago:

they came for her. She was curled up in the corner of her cell, they said that she should eat something to keep her strength up for what was to come. They were hideous creatures, with there sickly wet sheen, demons. That night she wished with all her being to be rescued from whatever fate the demons had in store for her, and was surprised when she heard voices, whispers actually. When she checked the door she realized that the whispers couldn't make it through the steel and that they were in her head, when she though how she could hear voices with out seeing or knowing who they were she became scared and curled back up in the corner crying softly.

Three days ago:

today was the first time she left the cell since she got there. They took her to an examination room where she lay on a table with her arms and legs restrained and a light blinding her so she couldn't see, then she heard voices around the table; "she's making amazing progress, she is definitely the one we've been looking for" said a male voice, " I concur, I think that she will make an excellent subject" said another voice this one decidedly female, "I think that this is a conversation that should be held away from prying ears" said a third voice this one deep and booming. And with that she was wheeled out of the room and led back to her cell.

Two days ago:

she was still in her cell and praying again, praying with all she had that someone would take her away from this place. Suddenly she felt a strong sense of connection and security, and just then she felt as if she was someplace safe full of light and security. She tried to maintain the connection for as long as she could but it soon broke as the door to her cell was opened again, feeding time.

One day ago:

while trying to get the connection back she felt a tremendous power well up inside her and the feeling of security and warmth returned with amazing clarity. She then thought if this is a connection to the outside then she could ask for help.

"Hello?..." she asked.

"Hello?!... I ... I cant see! Is somebody there?" a scared male voice said "Where are you?"

As he said this a name made it self known in her mind: Axel.

"Hello!?" she said in a scared and frightened tone. "Axel, I'm scared!"

"How did you know my name?" the voice said in a bewildered tone.

"Your name is Axel isn't it?"

"... Y... yes... yes it is, but how did you know my name?"

"Wha... how?... I... I don't know, I just knew... Axel I'm scared..."

Suddenly the link was shattered by means unknown to her.

That night:

After being taken to the examination room again and hearing the same two voices from before she was returned to her room once again, after she was released and the door closed she started focusing all her will on the link from last night trying to open the link with Axel, but finding it impossible to link with him. But still a voice passed through her conscious:

"Axel... Axel can you hear me?... I've been waiting for you. Soon we will meet... and when we do, your life will change forever..." it was her voice, but she wasn't the one who sent it! It had subtle undertones that betrayed who it really was. It was the woman from the examination room! "What could they want with me" she thought to herself

The next night:

There had been increasing activity in the vicinity of her cell, and she began to get scared, so she decided that this would be her last chance to talk to Axel and try to get help. Concentrating all her being and will into the connection she felt a sensation of movement and then felt something strange, a soft breeze.

"Help! Axel where are you?!" she said her eyes still closed in concentration.

"What? Who's there?" he said in a startled tone.

"Axel help me please!" she said with a tone of fear and

pleading.

"Wha?... where are you?" he said sounding groggy.

"I...I don't know!" now opening her eyes, for the first time since she linked with Axel, and looking around. She saw digging machines, haulers and loaders. Signs and the night sky, she was outside!

"What do you see?"

"Uhh... I see large machines with buckets on them, and a sign..." she

said her voice shaking a little.

"What does the sign say?"

"It... it says Sharp's Construction Company."

"Don't move, I'll be right there!" he said after a small pause.

"O... ok..." she said a little uncertain but more stable.

A short while later she heard a rumbling sound and what sounded like a quick rush of air, as well as seeing twin beams of light approaching. Then the rumbling stopped, the lights went out and a muffled thump could be heard. After a few seconds a single beam of light could be seen as well as a shadowy figure walking around slowly. After a few moments the figure started talking to himself, the voice was definitely male, and although she couldn't make out the words she felt like she knew the voice.

As the figure turned to leave she saw the beam of lighe pass over her then stop and move back to shine on her, which made her uncomfortable so she shifted her weight and stood up. The sudden movement must have startled the figure because he reached to his hip and grabbed something and pointed it at her while saying;

"S-stay back... I'm armed!"

She, now afraid that the demons had found her, crouched back to her hiding spot.

"NO! Please don't hurt me!" she yelled back.

"Y... you... you're the one from my dreams!" The figure said slowly lowering the device to point at the ground.

"P... please don't hurt me!" she said in a frightened tone.

"No... no, I'm not going to hurt you..." he said, putting the device back on his hip. "You called to me in my dreams. I'm here to help you."

At hearing this a sudden wave of relief washed over her and she burst from her cover and ran as fast as she could towards Axel, which must have frightened him.

"Y... you're a..." he said in a hazy way as he fell to the ground unconscious when he saw her.

As he lay there she cared for him holding his head in her lap and feeling a strange sense of attraction to this human. She was slowly drifting to sleep when he suddenly sat up.

"Agh!... w... was that a dream?" he said, holding his chest.

"... I don-" she started to say but was cut off by Axel's sudden

reaction.

"HOLY SHIT!" yelled Axel, scrambling to its feet, and he began

backing away from her. He had stopped dead in his tracks when she started crying.

"H... H-hey, no d... don't cry... I-I didn't mean to scare you..." He said as he started walking towards her, as he got closer, she turned her back to him and continued to cry. When she turned her back to him she curled her tail up around her knees as she continued crying.

At hearing his reconciliation, she turned around and embraced him

tightly, burying her head in his shoulder, still crying wetting his neck and shirt. At this, he simply stood there. After a short, while she eased her grip and stood back a little, and stared directly into his red eyes, and at that moment she sensed something strange like something wasn't the way it was supposed to be. And with that, he reached out and cradled her in his arms pulling her close. At first she resisted, but only slightly, realizing his intent in a quick moment, and embracing him a second time - only this time, she wasn't crying. She just fell into his embrace, and held him as he held her, and soon had fallen asleep in his arms.

In her sleep she felt like she was connected to Axel but was unable to talk to him as she was too exhausted to even think straight. After a few minuets she felt Axels presence and was of clear enough mind to talk to him.

"You came for me" she said

"W... why did you call to me in my dreams?"

"Why? I don't know... I just wished that someone would help me, and I

finally got a response in the form of you, Axel..."

"How come you know my name, but I don't know yours?"

"My name is Lana, and I don't know how I know your name; it just popped in my head when I was trying to contact someone for help."

"Lana...?"

"Yes?"

"W... what are you?" he asked, cautiously.

"I... I'm a dragon." Lana responded quietly.

"I kinda thought so, but I wanted to be sure, because... I was wondering... why did you need my help? I mean, can't you, like, breath fire and stuff like that?"

"... N... no... no, I can't. You're thinking of the mythical dragon; I'm just

a regular dragon."

"Hmm..."

Neither spoke back for some time, until Lana broke the silence,

insecurely. "Axel?"

"Yes?"

"Thank you for coming for me."

"... No problem."

"Umm, can I stay here with you?"

"Yea sure I... I just need some time to think about all this." and with that she fell asleep.

"Lana had awoken during the early morning to find that Axel had slipped out of the chair and ended up on the floor. Suddenly a great sense of fear washed over her and she felt the need to be near someone. Lightly dropping off the couch onto the floor, where the rug lightly tickled her feet, she slowly moved over to where Axel was sleeping and laid down next to him and for the first time actually saw his face and realized how handsome he was. After seeing nothing but demons and being scared out of her mind for the past five days, nothing seemed better than laying there next to Axel, where she was safe.

After a few minuets of laying there and just staring at Axel she began to get sleepy again and without thinking she slowly wrapped her arms around his upper body and entwined her legs with his while laying her left wing over the two of them to keep them warm.

"Thank you" she said with her last conscious breath, before falling asleep again.

She felt a slight movement and started to wake up. Slowly she opened her eyes and looked straight into Axels, she just lay there for a moment before realizing that he was awake and looking directly into her eyes questioningly, suddenly she pulled away and sat back on the couch with her knees pulled up under her chin, her tail was wrapped around her feet, and her arms wrapped around her middle, looking away so as not to meet his gaze.

"S...sorry I...I didn't mean to..." She said with a hint of embarrassment in her voice.

"N-no its ok...umm why were you...uh holding me like that?"

"I...I woke up and saw you shivering so I went over and noticed a cool breeze coming from outside...so I shut the window and tried to keep you warm..." she lied.

"Uh...t-thank you" said Axel now sitting up and looking out a nearby window and noticing it was light out "shit! What time is it?" he said looking at the clock on the wall.

"What!? What's wrong?" she said now suddenly concerned.

"Damn I was supposed to be at work an hour ago, I'm sorry but I need to go ill be back at four-o-clock pm" he said starting to get to his feet and walking to the door to the next room.

"Where are you going...don't leave me here alone...I'm scared" she said starting to cry.

He then stopped halfway through the doorway, and turned around slowly.

"Ok" he said walking over to her and giving her a soft hug to try to calm her down "I wont leave...just let me make a call to tell my foreman that I wont be coming in today...ill stay here" She hugged him hard so as to not let him leave her. And at hearing that he wasn't going to be leaving she relaxed a little.

"Ok" she said sniffling a little.

When Axel had left the room she crawled back over to the chair he slept on last night and curled up on it and soon started to dream about a black dragon with inverted red triangles on his shoulders.

"NO!!!" she shouted as she sat upright crying.

"Hey hey, its ok it was just a dream, your ok" Axel said softly trying to calm her down. As she wrapped her arms around him and cried into his shoulder, wetting his shirt.

"A...Axel...y...your...ok...I...I...I thought...y...you...w...were...d-dead" she said still crying.

"Shhhhh. No I'm still here, shhhh its ok" he said comforting her but not fully understanding what she meant.

"A...Axel?"

"Yes?"

"Don't ever leave...I don't want to be alone again"

"I wont, don't worry"

After a few minuets she stopped crying and pulled away then proceeded to tell him all about her dream.

"You were standing in a field and didn't know who you were, then you... you started to change..."

"Change? Change how?" he said

"You...umm..."

"Its ok...you can tell me"

"You...uhhh...changed into...a dragon...a-and" she said hesitantly as she looked away from him.

"And what?"

"Then something happened...there was a bright flash and you started bleeding from a large hole in your chest" She started crying.

Gently he reached out, placing his hand on her chin and guiding her gaze back to his.

"Its ok, look I'm here I'm alive" He said

"Here, you feel this" he said as he took her hand into his. "This is real not a dream I'm here now and I wont leave" the second he stopped talking Lana threw herself at Axel and held him in a tight embrace.

"Axel..."

"Yes"

"Thank you" she said nuzzling up under his chin.
