Legio Patra Nostra

Chapter Two

Slight change to the title All characters are my intellectual property

Len and I got up and I followed him back into his house, his daughter shied away from me obviously terrified of this creature entering the house.

"Its okay Allie, He's not a monster" Len whispered to her.

She moved nearer her father whilst he sat down in a chair near the warm fireplace, which was crackling away merrily. I surveyed the room it had a stone floor, simple wooden furniture, and two doorways one I could see a kitchen and the other that led to a staircase Len then motioned for me to sit in a chair opposite him and Allie.

"So where did you come from?" Len asked me with a questioning look

"From Djibouti in North Africa" I replied.

"Where?" Allie asked "There's no country called that on this world"!

"You mean this isn't Earth?" I asked he nervously

"This planet is Earth but there is no land by that name" Len answered. Now I was in the shit, Not only was I AWOL from the Legion, but I was either in another dimension or on another planet.

Allie brought my train of thought to a screeching halt. "What's your name? I didn't quite catch it with all the commotion." Her head canted slightly to the left.

I smiled at her expression and she did the same to mine.

"My name is Lewis Gillard. What's yours? I asked curtly

She replied "my name is Allie, Allie Largepaw, and this is my father Len Largepaw"

Looking at Len, the Fox certainly lived up to his surname with his large frame, where his daughter in comparison was like a delicate rose and just as pretty.

Len rose from his chair he peered out the window behind me "Its getting dark, do you have a place to sleep?" he inquired. "No, would it be okay if I stayed here for the night?" I asked

"Of course your are welcome, it isn't everyday we get a visitor, especially one such as yourself" Allie stood up and motioned for me to follow her. This helped me relax as it was a start. I had been on edge for all this time

"I'll show you to the spare room in the attic." She said, I got up to follow her I picked up my backpack, as I followed her I forgot my FAMAS was still by the chair in the living room and most importantly it was still loaded. Len noticed it and leaned over in his seat to examine this strange black rectangular object. He picked it up and chuckled at how light it felt in his paw, he turned it this way and that, as I ascended the wooden stairs into the loft in the cottage behind Allie. I heard an ominous sound the[click] of the safety catch on my weapon being disengaged, I dropped my pack and I ran back down the stairs towards the sitting room. In there to my horror I saw Len looking down the barrel and sniffing it with his acute sense of smell. "Drop it!!!! ARRETTE" I yelled at him he turned to look at me and he pushed the weapon away from himself pointing the muzzle up towards the roof of the cottage. But had his hand inside of the large trigger guard of the FAMAS and his finger caught the trigger

[CRRACK] the weapon discharged. Len threw the still smoking FAMAS away from him. I grabbed it, and in what felt like a split second I had removed the magazine and de-chambered the new round that had been loaded into the rifle. Len , and Allie were both petrified, their eyes looked as if they would pop out of their skulls.

"Are you alright?" I asked Len, while I helped him to his feet, as I looked up I could see clearly where the round had penetrated one of the wooden beams in the ceiling. Len saw the hole and gasped, "THAT COULD HAVE BEEN MY HEAD!!!",he yelled, pointing to it with his paw.

"I'm terribly sorry Len. I forgot about the FAMAS," Allie came closer to the two of us she looked at the rifle in my hands " This is a thunder weapon of the Gods." She said in awe, while she ran her paw over the top of the weapon. "No, it's a weapon of the Legion" I said reminding myself of what the Sergeant Chef had told us when I jumped from the c130 "Legio Patra Nostra" I whispered.

They both perked their ears "What does that mean?" Len asked, "Oh it's the motto of the Legion. It means the Legion is our Home. I'll tell you more about it in the morning," "That sounds like a good idea" sighed Len, still a bit spooked from nearly putting a 5,56mm window in his skull.

Allie agreed with a yawn, she showed me up to the attic room. It had simple furnishings, of a wooden bed, a small chair, and a bedside table where a candle glowed softly. " I hope you don't mind it" Allie whispered "Its very nice" is said as I felt the softness of the mattress on the bed " Well goodnight Mr Gillard" she said with a smile, I turned to her and said "please call me Lewis and Bon Nuit" She coked her head slightly at my French but she shrugged her shoulders and turned out of the room closing the door behind her. I propped my rifle up against the end of the bed, then I removed my body armour, pistol and knife and slung it onto the chair, I sat on the bed removing my boots and I then laid down. I looked out the window, I couldn't recognize any of the constellations, and there were two moons. I was a bit scared at this point , I knew that I was probably trapped in this place. But what worried me most was the fact that I was probably listed as MIA by the Legion. But my eyelids were like lead weights and after all I'd been through that day I fell asleep.

My dreams were feverish they leapt about my memories projecting the images and sounds in my head like a cinema. First they were images of my home town where I was born and memories of my childhood. Playing in the schoolyard, fishing with my uncle and my father on the sea shore. My journey east to London then to Paris via a cross channel ferry, the next image was the recruiting officer in Paris, he was a short man with a bald head beneath his kepi he pushed a recruiting form in front of me as I signed with my real name. He then left and returned with my new name Lewis Gillard.

As I slept fitfully, a pair of soft green eyes peered through a gap through the door. Allie sighed softly and padded down the stairs. Len was still sitting by the hearth

"What are we to do Papa? Asked Allie Len turned to look at his daughter "I don't know dear. My only concern is that we should inform the authorities" "But what would they do?" she asked seeming concerned, Len sighed and said "The council elders will probably question him, after that I really don't know. Now I think we should go to bed."

"Okay Papa" Allie said, her mind still whirling with questions and about the creature that was now asleep in the upstairs room. She seemed to glide into her room, where she proceeded to undress, revealing her curves, her C cup breasts covered in creamy white fur. Her light pink nipples protruding from them slightly. She then clambered into her bed (which was similar to the on I was sleeping in) and pulled her blanket over herself and she settled down to sleep.

The dawn light poked its fingers through windows one poked me in the eye, at first I thought I was back in the Legion base in Djibouti, until I could see the change in my environment. I sat up sharply as the events of the past 24 hours raced in my mind. The mission over the desert, the jump, the strange clouds and finally meeting Allie and Len

I could hear from downstairs the clatter of pots and pans, I surmised that Allie was awake and was in the kitchen. I hauled myself out of the bed and reached for my clothes, I put on the shirt and trousers, and my boots and I went down the steep steps towards the ground floor of the cottage. I checked my kit just to make sure

I made my way towards the sounds emanating from the kitchen, as I walked to the doorway. There was Allie standing next to a large oak table she was kneading dough for bread, as well as keeping an eye on a pot, which was simmering merrily on the large black range. I was studying her from my vantage point she still hadn't noticed me. So I tapped the doorframe to get her attention. She turned her head sharply and jumped she probably wasn't expecting me to be up. "Bonjour Allie" I said, she perked her ears and said "Pardon?" "Sorry, I mean Good Morning Allie". I explained "Oh that's okay, would you like some breakfast?" she asked "Yes, thank you." I politely answered. I sat down at the large wooden table where she put a plate in front of me that was heaped with bacon (well what I thought was bacon) a eggs that had a red yolk. I tasted them even though a thought went thru my head that they might be bad for me. But they seemed alright and I tucked in, Len lumbered into the kitchen and also proceeded to eat his own hearty breakfast, one that made mine seem miniscule in comparison.

Suddenly I heard the rumble of horse footfalls and the blare of a military trumpet.
