#13 of Poetry c.2019

A very complex poem about the complex nature of people's direct/indirect influence over us and how we adapt to the strife and torment these things can bring. An updated version of the same piece which was released in the Late Springtime of this year, 2019 in the Common Era.

White Rabbit/How, A Poem

They say that you were born,

in some lab that you despise;

tinctures of your scorn,

dark red like old bowties.

"How did you sleep?"

"How do you feel?"

How very, very deep,

will this paint peel?

Walls run away at night,

dreaming of a dream,

where they, too, might,

wake up and not scream.

"How will you hum?"

"How can you sing?"

This creature that is dumb?

This bad and raw thing?

How can a child grow,

in such a bright place,

where the sun is as snow,

on a pale-white face?

How is a woman taught,

at the age of eight,

that her love is bought,

with false hope and hate?

How is she made to be,

in someone's game of pretend,

that ended on a plea,

to break and not to bend?

Brought up to bear,

the weight of a cross;

a fresh needle to share,

a profound state of loss.

The clone of an act,

with only one part;

unwieldy and sacrosanct -

and devoid of a heart.
