Lunatic High

Sayla strode out of her bedroom and down the corridor towards the main hallway. Quickly glancing down at the GPS map on the PDA in her left hand, she noted the time. 0835, she was going to be late. The light was relatively low in the corridor and had an orange tint to it so it would be easier on the eyes. Reaching the main elevator hallway, Sayla walked to the one in the middle and flashed her ID card in her right hand to the scanner. The elevator doors slid open quietly and she slipped inside.

The elevator was rather spacious and allowed her plenty of room to move about since it was empty. The gray metal walls were polished to a mirror-like shine, but there were no buttons to pick the floor. Her ID card determined the floor she had to go to. Sayla placed the GPS in the holster near the left front pocket of her jeans and took a few seconds to gaze at her self in the walls.

Considering she was a snow leopard, she seemed really out of place in an organization, or in fact, anywhere. She was one of few people like this but even so; it didn't take away from her appearance. She was in superb shape that made a more than a few people turn their heads in admiration. But the dark clothes were a bit of a contrast to her emerald green eyes that shined brightly back at her. They all kept their distance though, considering whom she was in a relationship with. Her long silver hair flowed along the curves of her body, which became even more obvious considering how her clothes fit. A dark gray T-shirt and a pair of black jeans with a holster with 3 pockets for the essentials: a PDA, a gun (if needed), and whatever else she wanted to carry on a mission.

The elevator stopped on the required floor and the doors slid open quickly. Sayla walked out into the spotless marble hallway lit by a number of torch lights that ran along the walls. She arrived at the open double doors and entered the meeting room.

For the most part, it looked like a meeting room for board members: comfy leather chairs, solid cherry oak table, plasma screen monitors positioned behind each chair and at the back of the room was a very large plasma screen monitor that took up almost the entire wall from the table up. Sayla took her spot in the center chair on the left.

Checking the time on the PDA, 0837, she was actually a few minutes early. She let out a quick sigh of relief and laid her head down on the table. Shortly after, she felt a tingling sensation and a very light pressure on the left side of her neck; she let out a subtle purr at the one whom she knew was responsible.

"Still waking up are we?" said the voice beside her

Even while straightening to an upright position, Sayla felt the sensation lasting on her neck and going up from the base to the top of her neck. She looked to her left and there was the culprit.

A reptilian male was sitting in the chair beside her, his cold cut yellow eyes providing an interesting compliment to his light blonde hair. His decent muscular build served to further the already impressive attraction that Sayla had to him. His dark blue jeans had some dirt on the knees and calves, no doubt from this morning's training. He also didn't have the spines or tail associated with characters like him, but then again, this was normal because most of his species group lacked these. Not like it mattered to her, Sayla preferred him looking this way. But there was something peculiar; his attention wasn't focused on her at all, but to something at their left.

The large screen flashed on.

Sayla's attention snapped right to it. On the screen showed a human male of what seemed to be a medium build for his species. He had blonde hair, hazel eyes, a small scar about one inch down from his right eye, and most of his body was covered by a black cloak. Sayla instantly recognized that D, the group's leader, was going to brief them for a new mission of great significance.

"Good morning you two," D stated, "I trust you both had a good amount of sleep."

"Clearly everyone else hasn't." said Sayla's mate, gesturing to the empty chairs around them

"Considering that you missed the original briefing no doubt to your late night rendezvous, Alpha."

"Great, so when did the team leave?"

"About a quarter to six."

"So how long till we arrive?"

"Judging by the time it takes you two to get ready, I'd say about half an hour. Unless of course, you want to prove me wrong."

"Not so much, I'm more interested in the mission."

"We are invading a lab today," a hologram of a building schematic flickered on in the center of the table, "our sources tell us that the basement level (which now flashed red) is home to a few Bio Weapons. We are going to confiscate every BW and we will apprehend the man responsible."

"So who-

"You will receive the necessary files on your way to the mission. For the most part we have no knowledge of any BW activation but prepare just in case things go to hell as soon as we begin."

"Transport?"

"Taken care of, you will see when you have prepped."

"Get any specific BWs?"

"Sadly no, our sources were terminated at about 0400 this morning and we scrambled to get to the lab before any more losses could be confirmed."

"Then we'll be there soon."

The screen flashed off and Alpha and Sayla left the room. Just as they were leaving, the two showed their ID cards to the scanner in the room to change their barcodes. Walking down the hallway, Alpha broke the odd silence,

"You seem to be in your own little world today."

"Well... I just... something just doesn't feel right." Sayla replied

"I hear you, there's something that just doesn't add up, why send all of the team for a simple lab invasion? D and I took out a BW plant by ourselves. I think there's another secret behind all this."

"Considering how quickly they got out there, it's a pretty safe bet to guess that D may have found the main BW plant for the area."

"But if that is the case, then wouldn't they have seen some sort of BW activity?"

"True."

"Something doesn't make sense, you don't like this and neither do I."

The couple reached the elevator, flashing their cards as they walked through the open doors.

"Maybe we need a little extra firepower with us this time?" Sayla inquired

The elevator began its decent.

"Possibly, but if this turns out to be just a false alarm, we're lugging around too much equipment then."

"Then what do you suggest we bring?"

"The way I figure it, we either pack a couple of extra guns or we bring the armor."

"The armor?!"

"Why not? D has been wanting us to try it out and sooner or later, we're gonna run out of excuses."

"But you saw how that armor shattered D's arm the first time he used it."

"D's different; he can regenerate lost limbs for god's sake."

"Oh and the cuts and bruises that disappear on us after two seconds are what?"

"But it isn't like he expects us all to master the same armor he does."

The elevator stopped and opened its doors. The two walked out into the armory.

"Then why don't we just pack a few serums?" Alpha suggested

"I like that idea better than the armor."

The two furs walked down the dark hallway and into the armory. Weapons of many kinds were stored on both sides of the hall: MP5A5s, M4A1s, and H&K PSG-1s were just the beginning. Magnums, Shotguns and Tactical Vests were also scattered with the weapons, no doubt from the early scramble. Beyond the hall was a room filled with eight lockers for each team member. At the end of that room was an incubator holding a variety of combat serums, the colors of them giving off a rainbow of different glows. Alpha and Sayla walked over to their respective lockers and opened them. Sayla took her signature silver katana out and strapped it across her hips. Alpha took his favorite combat knives, still in their holsters, and strapped them to the small of his back. Sayla walked over to the gun racks, procured an M93R and slid it into the belt. She made sure to check that the safety was on and that there wasn't a bullet already loaded in the chamber. There had already been a couple of times where D had to cancel a mission because someone ended up literally shooting themselves in the foot and she wasn't about to join the statistics. Not after all that had happened to her before...

"Heads up!" shouted Alpha

Sayla whirled around and reflexively caught a serum holster in mid air. She took a second to stare at the color, a bright electric blue emanated from the small window in the holster.

"Pay attention!"

Sayla caught the second holster with her left hand and checked its color, this time it was pure white. She placed both into the third pocket on the belt and checked to make sure she had all she needed before continuing.

"Got anything else you want to try?" Sayla asked playfully

"Don't give me ideas."

"You carrying the case or am I?"

"You seem to be a lot better at rationing them than me."

"After you injected five serums at once and practically lost it on the last mission, I'm surprised D hasn't banned you from carrying the cases."

"There were threats to the mission."

"Because a few rabbits and a tree are just so threatening."

"One time, one time it happened."

"And you see how that turned out with Axel."

"Anyway..."

"Can you snatch my coat for me?"

Alpha took the black cloak off the hook and tossed it to her. Sayla slid her arms through the sleeves and made sure to put the hood up before zipping it up. Alpha did the same with his cloak. The two turned to go get the case of serums and froze instantly upon who they saw; A small human dressed in pure white garments that flowed around him and a hood that covered his face so that only the cloudy white eyes were visible. He was holding the case and looking at the two with almost no expression.

Sayla was the first to break the silence.

"So we can't take the case with us?"

The human nodded

"D's orders?"

The human shook his head and spoke. For having the appearance of a child the voice was one of extreme wisdom.

"My orders."

Sayla sighed, "So I guess we're leaving now?"

The human nodded again

"Let's go."

The human turned and set down the case next to the incubator and picked up the small lance that had been next to it. The human touched the lance to the wall. The wall cracked in multiple places and the cracks grew into a sort of circle for all of them to fit through. The cracks gave in and fell to the pure white light that radiated from the opening. The human stepped through and Sayla followed, but Alpha gently grabbed her arm.

"Take these."

Sayla took the serums from his hand and snuck them into the third pocket on the belt. Then the two walked through the opening into the light. For a few moments Sayla felt blind as she kept walking, she turned to see if Alpha was on her left but saw only white. Then she felt no gravity and began to think she was floating. She turned her head upward, closed her eyes and let her body relax.

Her back hit something, hard.

Sayla tried to see around her but everything seemed fuzzy, like she was looking through static.

"Ah, dammit!" a voice sounded from her left,

"See if you can get her to recover." came another

"I'll give it a shot."

Sayla tried to sit up but it seemed like she was trapped in a layer of glue and could barely move. She felt a pair of hands hold her shoulders and gently pull her up. Then as soon as she was sitting upright her vision snapped back to normal. She saw that she was sitting up and that Alpha was holding on to her.

"You alright there?" Alpha wondered

"Y-Yeah, I just don't know what happened."

"You almost stopped between realities." Said a voice from in front of her

Sayla looked up to see D standing right there and looking down with no expression in his face.

"Do you think you can stand?"

"Yeah, Let me just-

Sayla was pulled up by Alpha and she tried to stand, she was a little shaky but it quickly subsided. D turned and walked off to the building that lay only ten feet in front of them. Alpha filled Sayla in on the details.

"Apparently the rest of the team was just called for an emergency and only the three of us are invading the lab."

"That's a vote of confidence."

"Sadly, we don't have an option. The emergency screwed us and that's why we took a different way and didn't receive the files. Apparently the emergency was pretty big so Axel and the others ran off without another word. Not only that but after the team split up, D picked up a couple of BWs activating."

Sayla sighed

"And the lab needs to be invaded now, if we don't the scientist responsible will get away. Apparently D also said something about a vector virus that could have catastrophic effects if the place is detonated."

"Vector virus?!"

"Yeah, so we have to get in now. Come on."

Alpha took point as Sayla followed him through the entrance, unholstering her gun and readying for an attack. The foyer was pretty big and spanned only two floors. The beautiful wood carved railings and the bright red carpets on the white marble tiles made it seem a lot less ominous than it really was. A door closing on the second floor let the couple know that D had already started looking. Alpha tapped Sayla's shoulder and gestured towards a pair of elevators. They walked quietly over to them and Alpha tried the button on the left one, no response.

"Looks like the place is locked dow-"

A screech from above drew the pair's attention. A reptilian creature similar to Alpha without hair, clothes, or sex for that matter, leapt at them from the second floor walkway. Sayla took aim, a bolt of electricity shot past her and struck the creature dead on in the chest. The force of the blow sent it backwards and onto the floor where it writhed and twitched for a few seconds and then stopped. Sayla knew that Alpha used "The Spark", an ability that allowed him to send charged electricity from his nervous system and be able to kill enemies or potential threats. But Alpha had other uses for it.

"We have some Hunters here apparently." Alpha remarked

"Yeah."

"No time to waste."

Alpha grabbed in between the doors of the elevator and pulled. The doors gave in and began to move, not without creating a scraping sound of metal on metal. This gave Sayla a light chill through her body. Alpha finished opening the doors and looked down into the blackness.

"Going down?" he proposed

"Only because you need someone to watch over you."

Sayla placed her gun back in the holster and looked at Alpha, who gestured to get on his back. She let out a quiet chortle and got on his back, piggy back style. Alpha looked down and leapt from the opening into the darkness. Sayla shut her eyes the instant Alpha's feet left the floor and a couple seconds later, felt a light bump as Alpha hit the floor of the shaft. Sayla opened her eyes and saw light from behind her. She turned her head and saw a room emanating the light. From what little she could see, the mirrored ceiling reflected a few scientific instruments.

"Looks like the lab needs a little fixing." said Alpha,

"As far as we know," Sayla replied as she got off of His back and turned towards the elevator doors that were slightly ajar, "give me a boost."

Alpha walked in front of her and pushed his back to the wall making his hands into a step for her. Sayla put both hands on his shoulders and placed her right foot into his hands. She leaned into him and as Alpha pushed up she quickly made the transition from having her hands on his shoulders to grabbing the edge of the room. She pulled herself up quite easily and used both parts of the double doors to pull herself into the room in a crouched position.

The room looked almost like everything had been sprayed with chrome paint and polished to a mirror like finish. The only things that didn't blend in were the microscopes, culture flasks, culture mediums, and a few Petri dishes that were scattered about the tops of the tables. Sayla stood up seeing as there were no threats in the immediate vicinity and took a better look around to find a door to her right that was left ajar. The room behind was dark except for the faint glow of blue, no doubt from a computer screen of some sort. Sayla began to walk towards the door when she heard the sound of feet hitting the floor, she looked back to see Alpha standing at the doorway and looking around for anything suspicious. Sayla made her way to the dark room and slowly pushed it open, unholstering her gun as she did.

This room was a bit different; it had a lot more color to it with posters and charts along the walls and a bed near the far right corner of the room. Most of the colors were lost thanks to the darkness of the room as well as the glow of the computer screen. Sayla checked the room to make sure that there were no signs of any BWs but she did notice the large claw marks that swept downward almost to the bed. Instinctively, she reacted to see if there was any sound that would signify if the BW was nearby...nothing. Sayla relaxed a little and turned to face the computer which had a bright blue message on it.

Lab Lockdown of sectors 1-7 complete

Vast Majority of subjects detained

Sayla breathed a little easier knowing that the system had kept most of the BWs from being activated. She exited the message, and froze in shock.

The capsule that the screen showed was broken and damaged beyond repair, the damage to the surrounding area was astounding. What was once a vast array of computers and life support systems, is now a mass of wires, metal and glass. But that wasn't the scary part. What Sayla was looking at, was the creature that had probably been in that capsule. Her mind instantly ran the words of D, who explained to her some of the scarier BWs.

The BWs that I face are creatures which you may not fare so well against, even with Alpha. The critters resemble things like the Tyrant series from Resident Evil, but just because regular police officers killed those things, it doesn't mean that you will be able to. If you find one, try to stay out of its line of sight. Do not engage them without me at all costs.

Those words hit her quick and they weren't hard to follow, but the creature that she was looking on was looking right at the camera, at her. Sayla backed away from the screen and the creature let out a howling scream that reverberated through the lab and made her blood run cold.

"Sayla!" Alpha shouted from the next room,

Sayla made no attempt to talk or move, she was paralyzed with fear. That thing had seen her, it saw her as a threat, it had blood plastered to its body, and it was coming for her.

"Sayla." Alpha stated as he touched her left shoulder

"We have to move."

"What? What's going on?"

"We have to get out of here, now."

Alpha turned to see the screen and saw the destruction. Without missing a beat he unsheathed a couple of combat knives.

"Then let's see if we can find D before it finds us." he replied,

Sayla held her gun tightly as the couple walked back into the brightly lit room. Sayla squinted as her eyes adjusted to the sudden change. Alpha looked around to see if anything new had shown its face. When Sayla's eyes had reconfigured themselves, she walked to the other side of the lab and placed her back to the wall on the left side of another door that was closed. She motioned for Alpha to get ready and placed her left hand next to the switch. She pressed it and whirled around the corner, pointing her gun into the room to any sort of threat. The hallway was dead silent, and it seemed to stretch on into never ending white. Sayla crept out of the room looking along both sides of the hall. Alpha was close behind her. She got ten feet down the hall when she spotted a hatch that was unlocked by a card key. She looked back and nodded her head towards the door. Alpha got the message and the two sprinted towards the door. The hallway became a tube of light as they raced to cover the door. Claws hit the floor. Sayla spun around, sliding a little, but keeping her balance just enough to train her gun on the new threat, another Hunter. This one was clutching its throat and had a look of pain and terror in its eyes. It tried to scream but the gash in its throat kept it to a quiet sputter, black blood blossoming from its wound. Alpha was behind it. Staring coldly at the Hunter, his knife stained black in his left hand. He spoke with a tone of coldness that chilled the creature to the bone.

"There is no hope for you, you will die here. You cannot call for your brothers, and you will not stand in my way."

Alpha delivered a kick to the back of the Hunter's knees and grabbed its muzzle with his right hand. With a quick jerk, he yanked the head backward with a sickening snap. Sayla turned her head quickly to avoid seeing the bloodbath unfolding before her. As the body hit the floor with a wet thump she turned back to see the Hunter with its now broken neck. It writhed a bit and poured more black blood onto the white floor. Its eyes had gone from bright yellow to a grayish white. It was dead alright. But the blood it left behind left a pit of darkness in the light. It was just another reminder to her of the world that she had been thrown into, the past that abandoned her and the future that was extremely uncertain. Alpha quickly wiped the blood from his knife and hands with a small black rag he had in his pocket. Quickly shoving the rag back into the pocket, he looked at Sayla and noticed the look in her eyes. She had lowered her gun and was staring off into space. He walked up to her and placed his left hand on her right shoulder, her attention snapped right to Alpha.

"Hey, if this is too much for you," Alpha told her, "you can head back to the base."

"No," Sayla shook her head, "I've come this far, I'm not about to just give up on this."

"That's my girl."

Alpha embraced Sayla gently; he could see the fear in her eyes and knew well enough that she would come to terms with it in time. He stepped back and quickly regained his other demeanor.

"We still have a BW to find." He said,

"Right." Sayla replied,

The two headed for the door and readied themselves for the assault on anything in the lab. The door opened. The couple nearly flew through the doorway and stopped behind a man in a lab coat. Sayla trained her gun on the man's back and tightened her grip on the gun. Alpha took his stance, ready to tackle the man the instant there was movement.

"Freeze!" The couple shouted

The man put his hands in the air, he didn't have a weapon. But even in the gravity of the situation he was in, he kept his calm.

"And to what do I owe this intrusion?" The man stated,

"You know damn well what." Alpha shot back, "This lab is getting shut down for unauthorized use and production of BWs. Surrender quietly, and things won't get messy."

"Now, I understand that you need to arrest me. But this is a little overzealous."

"I wouldn't be too sure of that doctor." Came a voice from the trio's left,

"Well, well, if it isn't the silver eyed demon himself. I was wondering when you would make an appearance in this little play."

"Right now apparently, but since we're in the formalities," D walked out of the shadow of a large capsule "might I ask that you show us some of the BWs you've been keeping?"

"Well, you see, I would show you, but it appears one of my subjects escaped and now is running loose around the labs. I'm sure that you've all heard his anger throughout this place."

"That's too bad," D responded, "I had hoped that you hadn't tried to resort to slitting your own throat when it came to your work. I mean, you are quite the educated man when it comes to this sort of thing."

"Oh, absolutely. But I'm not the one getting followed by him."

"That maybe true, but you assume that we can't kill it."

"You might, but I don't know about them."

The doctor pressed a switch that was hidden in his left sleeve. D threw two serum cases at Alpha, who reflexively caught them. Sayla fired and caught the man in his left side hitting his lung. She was going for the spine, but her aim was thrown off as the floor beneath her and Alpha suddenly gave way. The man stumbled as he took the hit. And D walked calmly towards the man. Sayla tried to brace for impact, her back was going to hit another floor hard. She closed her eyes and used her arms as a shield to block the debris falling from the area around her. She felt arms reaching under her and cradling her body. She knew it was Alpha, but she kept her eyes shut all the same. She felt the light jolt as his feet hit the floor and she waited till she heard the silence that all the debris had fallen. She opened her eyes and noticed that her gun was out of her hands. She also noticed that Alpha was giving her a light smile. She shifted to let him put her down. Examining the debris around her, she didn't see her gun, and considering what she was about to go up against, unsheathed her katana. She examined her new surroundings; the two were in a room that was absolutely gray with no windows or doors. And her instincts were screaming to run. But she couldn't see the threat. As she was examining the surroundings a voiced jumped into her right ear.

"You two holding up?" D asked

"Yeah, but we're in a room with no way out." Alpha explained, "By the way, fine time to use the headsets as we're about to face a BW."

"That's just it, I'm using these to help give you information on this BW, not only is it very aggressive, but it's also mentally and biologically unstable."

"Well, we don't see it."

"Not yet you don't, it's heading right for you two."

An explosion shattered the wall thirty feet in front of them, and a rocket zipped towards the two furs. Sayla and Alpha both dove in separate directions and each one took shelter behind a large piece of debris near them. Alpha was crouched behind one rock and readied himself to go run out and take the BW head on. Sayla had her back to another rock and didn't venture a look to see what was on the other side.

"Alpha, I handed you a pair of serums, use one. Sayla, you need one too."

Sayla looked down to her left and saw the case as it skidded lightly across the ground to her. Snatching it with her left hand, she popped open the case and pulled out a blood red colored tube with a cap on the bottom of it. She slid off the cap and exposed the seven small needles.

"This should help you greatly, but be aware that this BW may have a few tricks up its sleeve so use caution."

"When do I need caution?" Alpha laughed, "If I can match you, I'm not gonna be beat by some test tube frea-"

The ground between the two furs erupted as a rocket exploded not three feet from them, scattering hunks of concrete and small pieces of metal into the air. Alpha slammed his opened serum into his right leg as the BW came charging towards the spot that it had just destroyed. Sayla followed suit and hit her left leg with her serum.

She couldn't hear any outside noise. She could hear her breathing and her heart beating. Her body felt stronger and almost bullet proof. She turned her head to Alpha; he had jumped back just to catch the BW running full speed towards him. This gave Sayla the chance to really see the BW. It did resemble some form of a Tyrant, but it looked totally different. The creature had armor all along its body, the rocket launcher it held in its right hand looked to be an old model, but definitely with some targeting upgrades. Its body resembled a humanoid version of a large man, but Sayla knew better. She had seen the pictures of the Ivans. They looked human, but were quite vicious fighters. The upside was that its head was uncovered by armor. The odd thing with this scene was that Alpha looked like he was moving at normal speed; the BW looked like it was in slow motion.

Seizing the opportunity, Sayla bolted to the BW and struck out at its hamstrings. Her sword cleaved the armor in two and split open the skin in that instant. She felt one tendon give way in the creature's right leg, but her attention was more focused on the large left arm coming at her. She ducked it easily and slashed upwards. The weapon connected with the armor but didn't even split it, only leaving a minor scratch. She felt the creature's body hit the floor behind her and she spun around to try to deliver a killing blow. She stopped before she struck as there was nothing there. Then she felt the creature's body smash into the floor. She saw to her right that Alpha had already tackled the creature causing it to drop its weapon. The two were at a stalemate while they locked arms with shoulders, neither side able to budge. Sayla readied herself to take a charge at the BW when Alpha rolled to the side, dragging the creature with it. He landed a direct hit to the creature's chest and a bulge appeared in the armor along its spine. Sayla charged at the creature and thrust out the katana into the bulge. The sword pierced the armor and ran lengthwise along the BW's spine. The sword ended its journey as it exited out of the creature's collar bone, creating a waterfall of purple, black, and red blood. Sayla jerked the blade back, feeling the bones underneath crumble. The creature went limp as it bled. Alpha delivered another kick to the chest with his left leg and kicked the body to the side with his right. He used the momentum of the last kick to get to his feet and face the hole where the BW emerged. Sayla gave her sword a quick jolt to cast off the blood and sheathed it. Alpha smiled lightly and began to walk towards the hole.

"Let's go."

"Right." She replied,

The couple started walking towards the gaping blackness when things changed abruptly. Sayla felt her body leave the ground and noticed that she couldn't move her arms. It was then that she figured out what hit her. The BW was still alive and it had her in a bear hug. Alpha spun around and began to run towards her. Too late, the BW began squeezing Sayla. She cried out in pain as she felt her ribs begin to crack, her scream coming up short as she began to cough up blood. The creature jolted, and its arms went limp. Sayla fell from its grip and into the arms of Alpha who was still wearing a look of shock. He got her out of the way as the BW hit the floor for the last time, a smoldering crater in its spine. Alpha set her down as gently as he could, trying to avoid causing her more pain then she was already in. She coughed up more blood as she began to fade out of consciousness.

"Sayla," Alpha pleaded, "don't die on me."

Her vision faded to black.

"Not on my watch." Came a familiar voice,

Sayla sharply inhaled as a needle met her fur, as her lungs filled with air, her ribs popped back into place. They stayed where they were as she exhaled and rolled to the side, coughing up the last of the blood in her lungs. She was still breathing hard as she looked up to see D standing above her. As her breathing slowed, she tried to get up but began having some trouble. D knelt down and helped her to her feet. After Sayla regained her balance, she asked the biggest question on her mind,

"Where's Alpha?"

"Alpha ran off after the doctor. It turns out that the doctor used a hologram to distract us and used the BW as a means to try to get rid of you. After you passed out, I ran up just in time to watch Alpha hit the side effect I feared when giving you two the serums."

"What side effect?!"

"When a person with the crimson serum experiences extreme emotions, they go into a state better known as a "Lunatic High". This state, by my guess, is going to send Alpha into a fearless rage of speed and power. At this rate, he's already to the doctor by now."

Sayla took off full speed towards the hall.

"Sayla wait!"

She passed hallway after hallway, she flew through open doorways and holes in walls. She followed the path of destruction that she was sure that Alpha had wrought. She raced by bodies of Hunters and of other small BWs that were strewn about the bloody floors and walls. She didn't stop running, she knew she had stop Alpha before he did something rash. Before he got himself killed in vain. She darted past numerous labs until she came to a top right before an open doorway, inside was Alpha, standing and looking like he was analyzing the situation. Sayla stopped for a few moments to catch her breath and walked into the room. A flash of light made her stop dead, she was standing in front of a thick glass wall, and she hit the wall with the side of her right fist. Alpha just stood there. Sayla knew better than to yell, the wall was sound proof so he couldn't hear anything form her. Then her ears twitched from the vent that was echoing sound nearby. Apparently for being a scientist, he hadn't planned on soundproofing them. Now it was to Sayla's advantage as her ears picked up the conversation going on at the other end.

"So you see Alpha, you have the gift. You have the gift of being a leader. You can take this army and destroy the world for what they have done to you, and for what they have taken from you."

The voice was none other than the doctor's but as soon as Sayla noticed him, she noticed something far worse. The lab they were in wasn't a lab at all, it was a factory. The walls for about a square mile above them were covered in capsules, each containing a Hunter. There were thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of them, and they were all controlled by a terminal. The one Alpha and the doctor were at.

"So Alpha," the doctor concluded, stepping to the side "what do you choose?"

"I choose..." Alpha began, an evil smile forming at his lips

Sayla put both hands on the glass. Tears began to well up in her eyes. She didn't want to see Alpha destroy the world just because he felt that he lost her. She didn't want to see him walk that path again.

Alpha turned and slammed his right hand through the doctor's stomach. Sayla collapsed to her knees.

"...my team." Alpha finished

The doctor stood in shock for a moment, then pulled out a syringe.

"Fool!" he shouted

A shot rang out. The doctor's hand disintegrated into a blossom of crimson. The glass cracked and shattered into hundreds of pieces.

"Dr. Griffon," D began as he slid his custom rifle back over his shoulder, "did you really think that Alpha would betray his team? For what you perceive to be your vision?"

"Corruption is power." Griffon spat

"Absolute power corrupts absolutely."

"You will not win this, I am immortal! With this device," he reached into his other lab coat pocket and a look of horror ran across his features.

"You mean this?" Alpha said sarcastically as he held up the device, "this isn't going to save you. I already have the parasite in my grasp. Activating it now will just cause it to react and kill you."

Alpha cast the device away from him, breaking it on the floor ten feet away.

"And we can't have that now can we?"

Alpha yanked his hand out of Griffon's stomach and he collapsed onto the ground. Alpha turned towards Sayla and began to walk to her. He cleaned the blood from his hand and cast the rag on the ground. He knelt in front of Sayla and hugged her tightly.

D walked over to the doctor. He looked at him with a blank look on his face, but his eyes were full of pity and disgust.

"I don't need your pity, I have Corruption."

D sank a syringe into the back of the doctor's neck. Griffon froze and his body hit the floor.

"Matakami, I swear I will get my revenge."

"There isn't going to be a chance for that. You will die here with your work. It's just a shame that you couldn't have used your knowledge to help us, now you know the price you paid." D replied, "Alpha, hang on to Sayla, this place is going up in smoke," D raised his right hand in the air and shouted "General!"

A white cloak appeared and surrounded the two furs; they felt a quick sense of zero gravity. And everything went to white.

The couple blinked and noticed that they were back at the base, just outside the courtyard.

Alpha hugged Sayla again and said as gently as he could,

"You alright?"

Sayla nodded

"Let's get inside, hmm?"

She nodded and rose to her feet with Alpha. The two walked inside, leaving the small human in white alone once again near the courtyard.

Some time later...

The lights were off in Sayla's room. Her stereo on the other side of her bed was gently playing "Dance Inside" by The All-American Rejects, covering the sounds she made. She leaned back and relaxed herself. The darkness being the only witness to her. Her coat and clothes scattered along the floor, along with some other clothes. The covers on top of her moved gently and rhythmically. The melody sounding itself through her body as she murred. The blinds on the windows casting the shadows of her figure along her bed. The raised blankets starting at her neck. They moved around again and she relaxed even more. Her body became illuminated by bolts of blue electricity dancing along her skin, giving her a feeling of total ecstasy. The rich blue illuminating the room, the items on the shelves, the stack of CD's, the bookshelf, the computer, and a little of what lay under the covers. As the song faded out, the electricity followed suit and Sayla's breathing was heavy with excitement.

Leon walked out on the balcony of the third floor. The balcony overlooked a beautiful mountain range with the sun setting nicely. Out on the balcony sat D and Eve at a table. They were staring out into the sunset and talking.

"Sorry, I'm late guys." Leon panted, "It's a nightmare getting up here."

"Yeah, I hear ya." D responded,

"Hey," Leon looked around, "Where are our two furry friends?"

"Where do you think?" Eve stated, "They're doing what animals do best."

"Man, I just don't get it. Every mission they're doing that."

"I can't say I blame them." D interjected, "Their tenderness in direct proportion to the violence today is their way of finding a balance. It's just another day on the job here Leon, you know that."

"But you also can't blame Leon," Eve pointed out, "he barely gets to talk to them anymore."

"But he gets to see you." D said, "And that's definitely a lot considering..."

"Well, I'm sure they won't be long." Leon surmised

"Yeah," Eve said while dialing on her cell, she waited for a few seconds and heard a message beep, "Hey, when you two get done rolling around in each other, get up here and join us before this century ends."

Eve ended the call and set her cell down on the table. Leon had just taken his seat by her.

"You know," he said, "I have to hand it to those two. To be holding up in a world like this, especially since the problems that they have been facing thanks to idiots like our race huh?"

"That's why they're on the team." D said

As the trio began discussing, Leon noticed the song that D was listening to from his MP3 player. He knew that song well as the lyrics from the final chorus sounded inside his head. He looked out on the sunrise and smiled.

Give me the sun

And the moon above

The stars should fall

Only heaven knows

Between a man and a woman

It's everything or nothing at all

Everything or nothing at all

Everything or nothing at all
