#7 of Inktober 2019

Yes, I'm still going with the Inktober posts. Yes, I'm still trying to find slightly less obvious meanings in the daily prompts, such as finding an interpretation of "enchanted" that didn't just go into high fantasy. This has been an interesting challenge so far, a week in. Twenty-four days to go.

Legend has given us no shortage of enchanted objects and places. Swords. Lakes. Entire kingdoms. Some stories were pure fiction. Others, perhaps, held a grain of truth that had grown wildly with the passage of time.

Little thought is given to the enchantments of our modern age, though their effect is no less profound for those who fall under the spell. Technologists are regularly enchanted by machines and algorithms, holding them with a reverence reserved for the supernatural. Naturalists may instead be enchanted by places, be it the great vistas of a National Park or the much quieter space beneath a tree by a still pond.

There are countless other wonders in our world, natural and artificial, if one just wishes to see the magic in everyday things and ordinary places. What we consider usual now would have been true magic just a few decades ago. Take a few minutes and allow yourself to be enchanted by the world around you, as it is. Then share that wonder and joy with the world.
