Introduction to a story I haven't thought about much...

I wrote this some time ago and I dunno where it's going - Just thought I'd post it and see what people think. :3

They don't tell you what it's like.

They tell you it's going to happen and that it's as sure as death and taxes... But they don't tell you what it's like, what to expect, or when to expect it. People ask questions, as it is natural to do so: "Why does it happen to everyone?"

"Is there any way *I* can avoid it?"

"What do we do when it happens?"

They are all valid questions but nobody has an answer for them, nobody cares about one insignificant little life for the greater good. But think.

One life.

Whenever it happens, one life is taken. It happens quite often, and we accept that. But count all the lives that have been lost over the years because of it. One quickly becomes Ten. Ten quickly becomes a Hundred. A Hundred quickly becomes a Thousand. Before you know what is happening the deaths have gone up into the trillions, like a cruel laughter that permeates all things.

It has been avoided.

The legends say so, at least.

Four people avoided it, they used the last vestiges of their power to avoid it conclusively and were gifted for it - but not as you may think. There were two females and two males. They knew that they had to avoid it, that they would not let themselves be claimed by its voracious touch because they were far, far too powerful and important to be taken by the stuff of myths.

Summer. She was warm, caring and beautiful - her eyes glistened yellow like a magnificent sun and that is what sShe was chosen to symbolize.

Autumn. She was delicate, and fragile. She knew of his importance but was too weak to accept that She could avoid it, yet... She still did. She ran for her life with Summer and succeeded in using their collective power to avoid it.

Winter. He was cold. That was all most people said about him, that he was cold and he did not care about what anyone else in the world thought about him because his heart had been frozen over when his family died. They were right, it had been frozen over. That is what let him escape it.

Spring. He was kind, gentle - and awakened all things. He was compassionate towards winter and they spent their lives running away together because it was the only thing they knew that they could do. They loved each other, Spring and Winter. Quite dearly - Summer could not melt through Winter's heart of ice but Spring could, and did. This was what gave him the strength to avoid it.

There comes a time when it catches up with you, but it cannot happen to you. This happened after many love-filled nights, or after many grateful nights, or after many lonely nights. It caught up to Summer and Autumn at first.

"You have avoided me and done the impossible. I grant you an eternity of life with each other, and you shall become seasons..."

They faded away and the sun shone for three months of the year with all of Summer's vigor and energy - Then her time passed and she rested as Autumn's frailty eased the trees and the plants into...

"Winter, your heart of ice has been awakened by Spring. You will be granted eternal life, the both of you."

Winter. The time where all is frosted over and frozen by Winter's heart. Spring comes Three Months after and warms everything up and reawakens it to be revitalized by Summer. It is said, that while Summer and Autumn are resting, Spring and Winter still love each other as they did once they had fled, and vice-versa with Summer and Autumn when Spring and Winter are resting.

And thus a cycle began.

The Seasons are still around, some say. This is true, but we simply cannot see them...
