#6 of Sample/Teaser Stories

Long story short,

Back in 2008, I wrote this story while I was off work due to an injury (Broke 3 bones in my foot, not fun)

anyway,

this story used to be about 25 pages and an estimated 1200 to1400 words before my laptop at the time crashed and I lost EVERYTHING (cries...)

Now all that's left is this little bit that's been sitting idle on DeviantArt for the last decade.

figured that since SoFurry seems more writer friendly, I'd post this here for people to enjoy.

This is the first true story that I ever wrote. I am just sad that I lost almost everything I had written for it and that I never went back to rewrite it...

This would of been a 3 part series starting where the parents of my character, Nichole Ice first met and the whirlwind events of the 3 days that they knew each other...

Tails of the White Wolf Side Story - Winter's Song

Nicole looked out the canopy of her skiff. Space was a wash of colors that looked like a tunnel as the ship traveled thru hyperspace. Most people found traveling thru hyperspace hypnotic and surreal, but Nicole had always found it soothing. While it's not the simplest way to travel, it is one of the oldest and tested ways to travel between worlds.

Nicole sighed. She turned her captain's chair around away from the forward canopy to look at her latest acquisition from her latest trip. It was about a 10 cm cube, or 4 inches cube according to the old human Imperial scale. She picked it up and it felt as heavy as a block of wood of the same size. But the real treasure was the wealth of knowledge stored inside, a whole library of a planet's history and even literature contain in the small cube. Or, at lease according to Miss Clay Bellwood, the rising star and daughter of the famous archaeologist, Professor Walter Bellwood. And only 6 have been found of the ancient artifacts, and this is her 3rd one. It's just that she never figured out how to work the dumb things to see if it, and the rumors about them, is true. She sat the cube back down and looked at her arm.

Nicole sighed. She had gotten into archaeology, and other interests, as a means to discover who she was, where she's from, and what she was. She was unique, even among other furies, as humans tend to call them, different humanoid aliens that look like animals that live on earth. Her fur color was mainly white with a sky blue like markings on her fore arms and legs that look like socks and gloves. She had studied the other fury races and found that white was a common color among them, but aside of dying their fur, blue is not a natural marking color. But that's not the only reason why she was so interested in ancient history.

Nicole closed her eyes and took a relaxing breath. When she opened her eyes again, her fur had changed color. Reddish orange had replace most of her white coat and black had also replaced the blue markings so she looked like a red fox, which form she mostly chose to be in. She looked in the mirror; her long hair was back to the strawberry blond instead of the sky blue like when she was in the other form. She hated it when part of her hair would remain blue making her look like some punk rocker or something like that. Not that she minded the white form. When she's in her white form her ability's improve, a lot. She can run faster, jump higher, hit harder, can concentrate a whole lot better, and once even picked up a half ton pickup truck (when no one was looking) as if it was a 10-pound bag. And at times she felt that she could even fly. In fact, it was better than her normal form in all actuality. But the only drawback of it was the stares from the people and being called freak.

She picked up the cube and went back to the rear cabin. The ship was a simple design, only meant for two to four crew members. There where three compartments, the forward command cabin, the living quarters that was no bigger than a small collage dorm room with a simple kitchenette, a small facility and a bunk bed built into the wall, and finally the rear cabin that had the access to the skiff's engines, the airlock, the limited storage, and her hidden safe. She put the cube with the other two and locked the safe back up. Nicole sighed, but it turned in to a long yawn. She checked the skiff's chronometer. No wondered she yawned, she has been up for almost 20 hours. She went to her vanity mirror in her small room and made an observation about herself. "Nicole, you look like hell." She slapped her hands on her cheeks and a cloud of dust puffed threw her fingers. She undressed herself and took a cold shower. Most humanoids species would find the water freezing cold, but she found that the colder water always relaxed her the best anyways. She finished and dried off. She unpacked her grooming kit, sat in front of her vanity again and began to groom her fur.

She stopped and picked up a data pad with her photo album stored on it. The first was a picture of her adopted parents, an average human male with dark brown hair and somewhat large glasses standing next to a tan color rabbit with platinum hair and her customary smile that was always on her face, along with a much younger Nicole in the middle who was all smiles and all white with sky blue hair. Then there was a picture of a motley group of people on a beach that had wrote "Wish you where here" and singed their names Chad, Diva, Ned, and Shawn. On the left was Ned, a tall Vulture humanoid, then Chad, an actual Human from Earth, and sort of hugging Chad was Diva, a spunky multicolored female rabbit that had lost her voice due to a really bad accident, and finally Shawn, a 12 year old husky pup, but a real protege and genius to the point that he already has above collage level intelligence.

The next picture was actually a blowup from a photo booth's picture strip. It always makes her pause, cause it has her real parents in the photo, a sweet looking red fox with blonde hair that was her mother and a hansom white wolf with blue hair and two sky blue stripes on his cheeks. It looked like they where in love cause of the way they where sitting, her mother was holding a large stuffed animal that was a common prize at carnivals, as if it was her own child, and her father was holding her mother that made the picture look like a family photo. But what really made her paused wasn't who was in the photo, but the fact that it was taken just before she was conceived. 165 years ago. She had always wondered how the two of them met and why the photo strip was the only picture of her father...

Kathie sat at a table staring at her drink. When her friends first approached her and planted the idea to go on a trip during collage break, it seamed so fascinating and exciting. But Kathie felt like her friends where dragging her around like some extra baggage that was forced on them. Part of the reason was what some of her friends considered fun.

"So, going to take a drink, or wait till tomorrow Kat?" A giggling voice said. Kathie looked up from her drink and looked a crossed the table at the speaker. It was Jem, a black and white skunk that looked (and smelled) like she had too many drinks for one night. Kathie just grinned back, brushed her light blonde hair out of her face, and took a large gulp out of her drink.

"Whoa, take it easy Kat." Belle said as she sat down at the table between Kathie and Jem.

Hitomie, who walk up with Belle, took the chair across the table from Belle. "That stuff will come back and hit you if your not careful."

"Don't worry." Kathie said. Her gaze drifted to the door as more people entered the club.

Frost entered the club. The place was fairly busy with a decent size crowd, wouldn't be too hard to blend in. He checked his trench coat in the front and continued into the club. He stopped at the bar and ordered a drink, and while the bar tender was busy he summed the place up. It was a large place with a raised dance floor that took up a 3rd of the 1st floor with a live DJ taking request from the dancers. The rest was taken up with various tables and the bar where he was standing.

But the club wasn't what interested Frost as much as who was actually in the club. Mobsters. Goons that where currently patrolling the floor. There where only four that he could count when something caught his eye. It was a table, or more pacific, the girls at the table who where looking at him. The close was a skunk white hair that was probably so drunk that she was barely able to stay seated. On her left was a tan rabbit with platinum hair in a long braid. Across from her was a silver fox that had an aurora of being a motherly type that was probably acted more as an older sister for the group. Then, there was the red fox with blonde hair that when she notices that he was returning her gaze, she started acting like she wasn't looking in the first place. Frost just chuckled and smiled.

The bar tender came back and gave Frost his drink. "Anything else sir?"

"Yeah," Frost said taking a sip of his drink "I want to talk to Teddy Willy."

The bar tender left and left Frost to his drink.

"Hey-yah, wolfie," a voice said next to him. He glanced up to see the skunk leaning against the bar next to him. "Tell me," she started with a drunken slur "Would you like to wake up with a Jem in your bed?" the stench of alcohol on her breath was so bad that Frost almost hurled.

The bartender waved him towards the other end of the bar. Frost finished his drink looked at the skunk who was starting to lean towards him, said bluntly "No." and left. The skunk fell to the floor with a hard thud and Frost never looked back.

Teddy Willy was a big, pudgy human wearing a regular suit and tie with a ring on all of his fingers. He was sitting behind a desk eating some assorted nuts and obviously he was spooked by Frost's appearance. Cause he was surround by 6 bodyguards, 3 more humans, 2 humanoid K-9 furies, and 1 large humanoid wolf that made everyone, including Frost look small. 'Good, makes things more interesting.' Frost thought to himself.

"So Mister... Sepheno, my boys tell me you have business with me. So tell me what do you need, weapons, information? Or perhaps you have something to sell, yes?"

"I'm here to collect a debt," Frost said, crossing his hands readying him self for his next move. "Ever heard of the Knight Broker?"

Teddy Willy's eyes grew large and spit out the handful of nuts he had just put in his mouth. "Kill that bastard!" the bodyguards began to reach for their guns but Frost was already ready.

Frost took the guards by surprise, cause in an instant he seamed to disappeared and reappeared behind one of the guards. Frost grabbed the weapon arm of the human guard he moved behind and shielded him self as the others fired with silencer pistols at him. With the loud techno dance music from below any commotion should be masked. Frost raised the guard's pistol and shot the two canines and the one human in the head before the gun jammed. He threw the dead guard and the currently useless gun into the wolf with enough force to knock the wolf off balance. Frost charged the last human guard. Having emptied his gun into his colleague, the guard twirled it around to try to hit Frost with the butt of the gun. Frost in turn, caught the arm pulled the guard towards him and slammed his palm into the shoulder of the arm that he had, dislocating it. The guard's scream was drowned out by the loud music.

Frost turned to face the wolf that was coming at him like a steamroller. Frost dogged the first punch that the wolf threw and countered with a jab to the gut. Unfortunately, Frost miscalculated and his jab felt like he hit a brick wall. The wolf brought both arms down into Frost's sides, knocking the wind out of Frost, and kicked Frost across the room into the far wall opposite of Willy's desk.

Frost pulled him self out of the hole he had created and fell to his knees. The wolf, seeing Frost was still moving, started towards him rolling up his sleeves. Frost just stayed on his hands and knees muttering. By the time the wolf was half way across the room, Frost had picked him self up and position himself sideways with his right arm hidden from view. The wolf charged. Frost brought his right arm around to his front, drawing in moisture from the surrounding air. The wolf stopped an inch from having the watery ball that had formed in Frost's hand hit his chest. Frost smiled anyway. "Frost Cracker!" The wolf was hit square in the chest as the magic ball left Frost's hand and froze, frizzing and sending the wolf across the room and shattering him into a thousand pieces when he hit the wall.

Frost walked to the surviving guard, picked him up, and snapped his neck. Frost dropped the body and walked towards Teddy Willy, who was hiding behind his desk.
