Riley and Hunter are farmhands who are left alone to manage the estate in a world where people have been turning into animals.

It all happened so fast. Too fast to process and with the sort of abrupt certainty that left people in complete disbelief, only able to finally come to terms with their new world after months of struggling to understand. People had started changing.

Hunter and Riley were mostly isolated from the changes that had been stirring up the world pot. They were farmhands in situ, two strong young men living at the modest estate as hired help. The work was hard and pay wasn't great, but the two dropouts didn't come from great families and appreciated whatever opportunities they were afforded.

They had no television on the farm but radio constantly spoke of the spread of this new disease, so much so that it became difficult to listen to. That people were changing into animals and beasts was hard enough to grasp, but the fact that most didn't survive the transformation turned it into a tragedy. They called them "non-viable." A person could usually survive the transformation into a horse for instance, but never a bacterium, and the contagion seemed rather disinterested in which way a person was affected.

The first major city was changed. Then the second. The radio broadcasts slowed, then stopped in a matter of weeks. One cool summer night, the owners took their children and left without saying a word. Hunter and Riley's modest living quarters were in a seperate building off the side of the main house, so they didn't even realize they were alone until morning.

"Well, what are we doing?" Riley asked. He was the bigger of the two and usually ended up winning their arguments as a result. "What are we gonna do?"

"They could be coming back." Hunter offered, though Riley's personality often overpowered his. "We don't know yet."

"Dude, they took their kids and bolted in the middle of the night. If that's not some gettin-the-fuck-outta-Dodge type shit, I don't know what is. They ain't comin' back."

Riley knew that he was probably right, he just didn't want to admit it. While the rest of the world had been dealing with the change, his life hadn't changed one bit! When the radio broadcasts died off it helped him prop up this illusion as the unspoken reality his brain would accept - there was no disaster, nothing was different - everything would be fine!

In truth, Riley was scared. More frightened than he'd ever been, more terrified than a man has any right to be, and the only way he had to pass himself off as more than a scared puppy was to pretend that the world was something other than what it was.

"How long can we stay here?" Riley looked up to Hunter and asked.

"Well, there's the livestock.. you know, meat.. milk.. eggs, probably for years." Hunter stated matter-of-factly.

"That's not what I mean. I'm saying.. how long before someone comes? Like we don't own this place.."

"Riley, no one's coming." As Hunter said those words they shook him. The truth in his statement was a frightening proposition. No one. Hell, there probably wasn't anyone left out here in these rural digs.

Hunter looked up at the big house that the owners stayed in. They didn't get to go in there often, mostly when something needed lifting, moving or fixing. "Hey Riley.." he paused, looking around almost cautiously for a moment, ".. so the way I see it is, this place is ours until someone comes and tells us otherwise. Both you and me, in equal. Deal?"

"What?! You can't be serious." But the look in Hunter's eyes showed no deception, gave way to no punchline. "I mean.. I guess just until someone comes.." he convinced himself.

"Lets go see what we got." He walked up to the door, turned the knob and it swung open. "See, they didn't even lock it or nothin'."

The place looked like a large farmhouse, through and through. Two stories with a basement, 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms with rooster-themed decor throughout ("Gee, the lady really liked cocks huh?"). They checked the pantry and confirmed that it'd been raided, though enough dry goods had been left to last them at least a month or two. Fortunately the freezer was still full of various cuts of meat, so they wouldn't be left to rice and beans alone.

When they got to the master bedroom upstairs Hunter laid his claim, "Alright, I'll sleep in here now and you can take.." but Riley was quick to interject, "No, no, no, no you don't, you can't just take this one all the time. It's got a bathroom and a big radio in it! Nunna the other ones have that!"

"I.." Hunter paused, ".. but you can't just have it either. Fine then, we just won't use it then.."

Riley spoke up, "No, no.. fuck that. We'll just share or something. Like you get it for a week and then me.."

"Done! So I get it this week then you.." Hunter grinned wickedly.

"Fine!" Riley begrudgingly accepted this as compromise, wondering at the same time if the way things had played out was all according to Hunter's brilliant plan from the start. Maybe he gave him too much credit sometimes.

**********

Life wasn't much different for Riley and Hunter than it had been before. They stayed in a bigger house with better air conditioning and didn't have anyone to tell them precisely what to do at exactly which moment, but their day to day was much of the same. They had to get up early, feed all the animals, milk the cows, collect eggs and tend the fields. By afternoon time they'd be finished, but also broken down from a day's hard labor. After that they struggled with what to do. Many days they'd try to get a signal from the radio, arguing with one another over which way to turn the dial when each position yielded the same static hiss.

Weeks passed, maybe months. The two dogs, three horses, 14 chickens and three dozen head of cattle became more of a family than Riley or Hunter had ever known, no longer just a job but a sacred rite to live directly off their labor, a privilege which had become increasingly rare in the seldom remembered world that came before. The radio's static hum seemed to grow quieter, inflictions and contagions long forgotten in the details of day-to-day activity.

Riley usually took care of feeding the horses each morning while Hunter attended to the chicken coop. Today was no different, with Riley muttering to himself about the unfair apportionment of workload as he scooped another pitchfork full of hay into the horse's feeding trough. When he did the pitchfork somehow came free of his grasp, falling to the ground. He reached for it and picked it up again, not thinking anything of it. But when he tried to scoop another full load of hay, it fell out of his hands again. It's like his muscles simply weren't working as they were supposed to.

Then he felt it. First a strange quivering, as though his body were shuddering but instead he was completely still. Instead, it distinctly felt like the world around him was shaking, his vision blurring in and out of focus as he struggled to comprehend. A sharp stabbing pain shot up through his spine and he looked down at his hands to see black fur sprouting from them as they morphed, distended and changed shape before him. He knew what was happening.

With a scream he fell to his knees, cries for help echoing out and stirring up the horses into a mighty frenzy, neighing and stomping a dust cloud all around the barnyard. Hunter would've been remiss not to notice the obvious commotion on the small farmstead and ran over as fast as his legs would take him.

When he got there he didn't know what to do with what he saw. The fenced in area adjoining the stables where the horses were free to run and graze was completely covered in a storm of dust - he could barely make out the fence and stables themselves. All the while the sound of Riley's voice screaming out in agony. Hunter shielded his eyes from the dust as best he could, hopped the fence and ran towards the direction of that voice.

Riley watched in disbelief as his fingernails grew into black claws, his hands forever misshapen, covered in dark fur on top while paw pads took the place of what were once his palms. He struggled to maintain both focus and consciousness, nearly losing it several times as the pain of bones dislocating and relocating almost sent him into shock. Was he dying? He looked up through the dust and swore that he saw Hunter.

Hunter looked down at the lump of flesh and fur that he recognized as his friend, panic alight in his eyes as he watched his clothes burst at the seams, black fur sprouting out wherever it could be afforded purchase. "Shit!" he reached down and grabbed Riley by the back of the head, "Riley! Stop.. you can't, this can't happen! I can't do this shit without you.." Tears formed in his eyes while he watched his friend's face protrude into a snout, his clothing fully shred revealing thick black fur covering his entire body.

Riley reached up and grabbed at Hunter's arm, managing to grab it before his friend recoiled. "Oh god, it hurts.. please.." he cried out in a growly, guttural tone. "Ahh!" he exclaimed as a sharp pain at his tailbone was triggered by the emergence of it's namesake - a bristly black brush of a tail sprouting out of him. If it weren't for the pain he'd watch in awe, as if seeing a tree sprout from the ground played in fast forward. Hunter held his head up the whole time, "You're going to be fine! Listen to me, I'm not gonna let anything happen to you!"

Then the pain stopped. Oh, it didn't go away completely, he was still sore. But it was more akin to the soreness felt after an overlong day of work on the farm, less like the life shattering change he'd been through.

He stood up on his hindpaws, testing his new joints as he looked around and watched the dust settle. Hunter watched silently in awe and uncertainty, noting that he looked very much like the Belgian Shepherd they kept on the farm, covered head to toe in a coat of thick black fur that never once yielded to a lighter shade. He was also larger than he'd been before, about Hunter's size if not a little larger. It seemed an eternity that Hunter watched silently, having no clue whether his friend was about to drop dead, attack him or turn and run off into the woods.

Riley was processing the world anew. Now that the dust had settled his nostrils were assaulted with a barrage of information that his brain didn't yet know how to process. His focus was rapidly flitting along to every new scent from one second to the next - the horses, over to the stable, the dust, the grass, one of the other dogs, his friend Hunter. He took a deep breath and opened his mouth which now had such a strangely unfamiliar shape, trying to focus on forming words.

"You're right. I think I'm going to be fine." Of course, he felt anything but fine. In fact, if he were to compile a list of words that would most aptly describe how he felt currently, 'fine' wouldn't even make the top five-hundred. It'd probably be left right off the list, he imagined.

Hunter breathed a restrained sigh of relief and tried to figure out what to say now. He stood up and noticed that Riley was a little bit taller than him, "I guess.. this is you now? That's still you in there?" He looked into the anthro dog's brown eyes which carried in them a liveliness so different from the friend he knew.

Riley shrugged, "I guess so. I don't feel like I'm dying or anything.. just tired and hungry."

"And naked." Hunter added. "I think some of my clothes might fit you. Let's go check - I'm sick of your dog junk just hanging out there like that - I'll cover you in a sheet if I have to!"

Now that his attention had been brought to the area Riley couldn't help but feel a strangely smug pride at the way his black furred sheath and balls swayed and bounced in the open air on the walk back to the house. He could tell this would take some getting used to.

**********

It only took a week before they adjusted to their new reality enough to begin arguing over the finer points of their existence once again.

Riley tried to wear clothes, he really did. Around the house, in the air conditioning, it was easy. He'd taken to mostly wearing a pair of old overalls with a hole cut for his tail most of the time. But when he was working outside, it was impossible. It was so hot, and with his thick coat of fur it made it feel like he burning alive!

Hunter couldn't possibly understand that. "I'm just sayin', I don't need to see that shit all the time. You gotta figure something out.."

Riley growled, "Come on, I've been through some shit, just let me.."

Hunter cut him off, "And that bed, man! We share that room, and it's covered in fur and smells like wet dog.."

"You know I can't do anything about that!" Riley barked. "You can change the sheets, I don't give a shit. Just deal with it. I gotta deal with a lot of shit. You don't like seeing my junk? Deal with it. Don't like dog fur? Deal with it!"

Hunter grinned, "Take you to the vet and get you the snip, then!" Riley couldn't help but laugh, then they both laughed together. "Hey, you wanna try the radio again?"

Riley shrugged in disinterest, "What's the point? It's not like.." Hunter stood up, "I'll try. I mean, if you're not all the way gone.. maybe there's someone by now.." he noted that the dials felt strange to the touch, like they were the wrong size or made from a different material than he was used to. Each dial was turned and twisted, a familiar static screeching from the loudspeaker.

Riley groaned. His ears were much more sensitive than they used to be. "It's too loud. Just turn it off, there's nothing there."

"I can't." Hunter answered with an increasingly concerned tone. "I can't. I just can't." His hand just kept slipping off the knobs, never grasping them no matter how much he willed it to happen. His back hurt, then his arms, legs, face, and ears.. every inch of his body felt a searing heat, a burning pain coursing through him. "Shit.. no!" he cried out in a cresendo that ended in a whine as he face grew out into a canine snout.

Riley looked on shocked and dismayed. He didn't know what he could do to help, though he stood up to be as ready as possible. "Hunter! You can do this, you're going to be fine! Just try to stay calm.. I know it hurts more than anything right now, but just try relax and you'll get through this! I'm here with you!"

"Ahhh!" Hunter cried out, dropped down to curl up on the carpeted floor as his body twisted and transmogrified, patches of white, black and blue-grey fur sprouting from his flesh, curled tail growing from his backside sneaking up out of his waistband. Riley immediately recognized that his friend was turning into some version of the other farm dog, a blue merle Australian Shepherd.

He was also shrinking, losing nearly a foot in height and a good amount of sheer muscle mass. Fortunately for him, this meant that his clothes weren't shred and instead sat loosely on his frame. He grit his teeth through the pain as he watched the bones in his legs readjust themselves, his bare feet growing into properly padded hindpaws that gave little cause for shoes but when walking on glass.

He then felt something his friend hadn't gone through - an intense fiery churning in his belly, like he was being turned inside out. This unsettled his stomach quite a bit and even as the pain subsided, the qeasiness in his abdomen wouldn't subside and with a cry of "Gotta go!" he ran into the bathroom, nearly falling over himself on his new legs.

Hunter tried to catch his breath, closing the bathroom door and looking over himself in the mirror. He was definitely a dog, from the cool nose and snout to the mostly white and blue-grey fur covering his face. There was more than that, though. He felt so different, so very strange and wrong.

He thought for a moment. Riley had turned into their Belgian Shepherd. He was a big, strong dog.. hard worker, maybe not too bright. Looking down at himself, Hunter recognized that he'd turned into their Australian Shepherd, the superior dog in many ways. Smart, always eager to please, she was much less of a hassle than..

Wait. He looked down, reaching for the waist of his loose-fitting pants and underwear. A knock on the door. "Hunter, are you alright in there?" The new aussie pulled down his coverings and looked down at his crotch, eyes wide with complete shock as nestled between his legs he found only a very canine vulva, dark spade shaped thing with a slit down the middle bedded in soft white fur.

"Yeah, I just.. I just.. I.." Riley heard a dull thud as his friend fell to the floor and smashed in the door without a moment's hesitation. He stared wordlessly at his passed out friend for at least 15 seconds before doing anything else, taking him what he was seeing. Hunter.. was a girl now? She was still breathing and everything, was she going to be okay? He tried to wrap his head around everything as he picked up her much smaller frame and carried her to bed. He hoped she'd be able to rest it off.

*********

Hunter woke up in the master bedroom, even though it wasn't his turn to sleep in there. The first thing he noticed was Riley's scent, permeating every breath he took and consuming his focus until he resolved to ignore it. Looking down he found that his pants were fortunately no longer down around his ankles, but had been pulled up. Sliding them down he felt an immense disappointment that he hadn't had a wild dream or been through some crazy hallucinogenic experience - for all intents and purposes, he was now a she. Rubbing her paws up along her chest only verified whas she feared - small breasts, though barely enough to notice under a sufficiently loose-fitting shirt. She made a note to dress appropriately.

She went into the bathroom and with great embarassment realized that things were going to be overwhelmingly different from now on. What about Riley? What would he think? Would he ever be able to look at her the same again?

Hunter took a few deep breaths, found a belt to hold up her pants and headed out to find Riley. He was out feeding the dogs. Had she really been out for a whole day? Must've been, she figured. She approached slowly, watching him give the two dogs that looked very much like the two of them fresh water and full bowls of food.

"Hey." She finally spoke up when he finished and he started to walk over, "Hey! Are you.. okay?"

There was some pause before she answered. "Yeah. I mean, yes. Shit, I think so. Just, listen okay? I know that maybe I look different now. But no matter what, nothing is different. Everything stays the same. You hear?" Her voice was quite noticably a higher register than before. Of course, Riley could only nod. He knew well some of what she'd been through, and knew nothing of the other part. Whatever she needed.

"Got it. Everything stays the same." Riley nodded.

"Good. I'm gonna go take care of the chickens then, do my rounds. It's still early enough, I can get a lot done today." Hunter volunteered. She was still really sore, but it felt good to do something. It took her mind off.. well, being a her. She immersed herself in her work, and over the next few days was almost able to forget about the strange new anatomy sitting down between her legs.

She realized immediately just how Riley felt working in the heat. It was unbearable covered in both fur and cloth, though she stubbornly wore both for weeks, telling herself that if she could just get through the summer it'd all be better. She'd given up arguing with Riley about wearing clothes himself, and instead of looking at him with disgust as she'd used to when he worked the fields she only found herself extremely jealous.

Why did he have to turn into a girl, dammit? It wasn't like she could just parade around naked like he did, without a care in the world. That might be okay for a guy, but it was not okay for a girl! If he had a girlfriend running around naked, she sure wouldn't be his girlfriend for long!

She growled a low rumbling frustration. She wasn't supposed to be a girl. Nothing was supposed to be different, right? So maybe she should just pretend that she was still a guy. If nothing was different, she'd still be a he after all.

She spoke to Riley that night. "So yeah, it's really hot. I understand now. I'm sorry."

Riley laughed heartily, "An apology - from you! Ha, hell really has frozen over.."

"Shut up, come on. I can't do this shit." She paused and awkwardly searched for words in a way that he'd never remembered seeing from Hunter. "So I need to work naked too. But! You gotta promise that you're not gonna be all staring at me and shit. Everything is just like it was before! So if I was waking around naked a few months ago, you wouldn't be staring at my ass all gay and shit. You hear me?"

Riley stifled his laugh to a smirk and if not for his jet black fur Hunter might've noticed he was blushing. "Sure, yeah! I'm not like that anyway, you know. It's not like I changed and now I'm staring at the dogs thinking gross things all the time. I still like girls! Real, actual girls like in the magazines!" he pointed at the stack of smutty mags in the coffee table.

That stack went uncharacteristically untouched for the next week, then the week after, until being tucked away and forgotten.

**********

Though she desperately wanted everything to be the same as it had always been, Hunter found herself reminded at every turn just how different she was compared to her former self. While Riley seemed to be enjoying his newfound strength and vigor, she was struggling to keep up with the day-to-day maintenance of the stead. Day after day Riley would complete his chores faster than her and then come help finish hers. She wasn't sure whether to be happy or uncomfortable with the eagerness at which he came to help each day, so she resolved to feel nothing as she watched the dark black canine lift and toss the hay bales that she could no longer budge.

Eschewing clothes is something that would've been so unheard of for the Australian Shepherd a few short months ago that a casual observer might be surprised by the ease with which they are forgotten when given the opportunity. It turned working in the heat from impossible to somewhat manageable, and she'd spent so much time around feral beasts that she was beyond all modesty at such sights. Somewhere in the back of her mind she convinced herself that the two of them were just animals now, same as the beasts they took care of. Thinking that way made it seem natural, almost normal for Hunter and Riley to parade about the farm in nothing but their fur just like their four-legged counterparts.

Summer melted into autumn, leaves turned and a cool breeze blew in daily from the northwest. Neither Riley nor Hunter mentioned that the summer heat which had stripped them of their clothes had now passed. The thought never once came to mind for either of the canines, who'd become increasingly comfortable in their fur and couldn't be found wearing a scrap of fabric, day or night.

At night, they'd meet up at the big radio in the master bedroom, staring at it as if it were some sacred object of ancient ritual. Most nights they wouldn't even bother to turn it on. They'd sit there on the bed watching it, both imagining whatever sweet sounds coming out of it that they'd like to hear on that particular eve. It was comforting, strangely. Other than the work on the farm, this was the only thing that hadn't changed. At the end of the day, they'd get together to rest their well-worn bodies and listen to that old chirping box that took them away from it all for a few hours at a time.

"I think I'm gonna try tonight.." Hunter stood up and walked over to the radio, fiddling with the tuners and only finding the expected static. "It's been a while. Maybe it's been long enough.."

Riley cleared his throat, "Long enough for what? You don't mean.."

She gazed back at him with her piercing blue eyes, "You know we're not the only ones who made it. There's smart people out there too. Really smart people, I'm talking scientists, doctors.."

The big black dog growled and shook his head, "Bullshit! You know that if they could.."

Hunter was getting angry now, ".. they can find a cure! They will, I can't just live like this forever, I can't.." she was nearly hyperventilating.

Riley could tell that she was near an edge that he had no desire to push her over, and so managed to calm his tone before he replied, "I know this isn't how you wanted to live. Shit, it isn't how I wanted to live either. But at least we're alive, that's more than most can.."

He stopped speaking before he finished, his black-tufted ears perking as the radio crackled to life, the sound of a voice ringing through, hazy and indistinct. "Quick, dial it in! T-turn it up!" he stammered incredulously.

Hunter whipped her head around towards the radio, turned up the volume and twisted the tuning knobs until the voice just barely broke through the static, the speaker harsh and gruff in tone like someone who'd spent decades puffing on a pipe.

"... seems to have been created in a private laboratory and was somehow released. An investigation is underway. Due to limited..." the orator paused awkwardly for a moment before continuing, "...manpower that remains in the infected area, emergency services should be considered non-existent for the foreseeable future. Power is stable and stations are manned in most regions, if understaffed. Please manage your power use conservatively as normal fuel supply methods are no longer viable."

Hunter and Riley stared wordlessly at the radio, struggling to process the stream of information coming at them, at the same time overwhelmed to hear another voice after so many months! It continued..

"Phone lines are operational in a few areas, but down in most. It is likely that if you have service, you may find your land line able to reach local numbers, but unable to call out-of-area. Most cell phone towers in the infected area are no longer operational. If you are already in a safe location, it is recommended to stay where you are. Travelling is not safe, many highways are blocked and impassable."

Hunter looked over to Riley and his eyes met hers. She found herself lost in the dull brown of his irises, eyes that seemed so much less than human to her when he'd first changed but now seemed so much more. They listened to the rest of the message without looking back at the radio.

"If you are hearing this message you are in the quarantine zone. If you have not already been infected, it is likely you will be in the near future. Do not panic. Disease activity lasts up to 12 hours, during which time it is vital you expose yourself to compatible donor genetics. Large mammals are most likely to be viable - avoid birds and insects. If a non-viable change is caught soon enough, sufficiently large injection from a preferred donor can alter the mutation to a viable one. After about 12 hours, virus activity stops and change is no longer possible. Contagion is permanent. There is no cure."

Hunter's ears shot up, "What did he just say?!" Riley quieted her, "Shh!"

"Once infected, the changed remains a contagious host. If you have recently been around one of the changed or have seen someone change, consider yourself infected and surround yourself with viable donors. Again, there is no cure. The virus responsible is not natural in origin. It changes DNA in a fundamental way that simply can't be undone. The virus seems to have been created in a private laboratory and was somehow released. An investigation is underway. Due to limited... manpower that remains in the infected area.."

The Australian Shepherd girl growled and lashed out at the power button with her paw, beating the poor radio into submission until it turned off.

"Hey!" Riley shouted, "Don't break it, come on.. we'd have to use the little one downstairs."

Hunter snarled at him, "Who gives a shit?! I don't.. I just don't care anymore! About you, about this place, about a fuckin' radio, I don't give a shit!"

There was a time that Riley would've been intimidated by Hunter's anger, but now she was a foot shorter than him and it almost seemed cute. He shook that thought, filed it away somewhere in the back of his mind.

Riley answered quickly, "Listen, just calm down! I know it's hard for both of us but.."

The aussie dog laughed mockingly, "Hard for both of us? Man, you don't know shit! 'Till you get turned into a weak little bitch like me then you don't know shit!" Riley gave her some space as she took heavy breaths, "Now I'm stuck like this forever and I can't.. I just can't.." She dropped her head and started sobbing, tears falling from her eyes and wetting the fur on her face. She acted without thinking then, stepped forward and threw her arms around Riley, burying her head in his chestfur to muffle her sobs.

The big black dog was taken aback. This was the first physical contact they'd had since they both changed and he wasn't sure what to do with it, other than noting the pleasant feeling of fur on fur. One paw came down to settle on her back while the other stroked tenderly over her nape just as her feral counterpart loved so much. He held her close and spoke without mind, words without thought, "I'll protect you Hunter, no matter what. Whenever you're weak, I promise I'll be strong. As long as you're with me, I'll always keep you safe.."

It was another minute before her sobbing turned to sniffling, then quieted. She looked up at him with those blue eyes that he'd started to grow quite fond of. "Y-you really mean that?" She wiped her eyes before finding her arms around him once again. He was so pleasantly warm.

Riley just nodded in the stern manner that an alpha should. Hunter didn't realize that she was acknowledging him as the alpha and formalizing their role reversal, it all came along so naturally for her. It sounded good to have a big, strong protector in order to defend her now that she's so much smaller. She was barely over 5 feet tall! She wouldn't stand a chance if someone with less than moral thoughts decided to...

"I'll try to make it work. I guess that's the only choice I have. But I don't like it! I'll never like it.." she whined and pouted. "But I'll try to accept that this is me now, and I'm never gonna turn back.."

Riley felt unusually happy. Maybe too happy, his black-furred tail beating wind behind him. He nodded down to the smaller dog, "That old you is gone just like the old me. This is us now.." He leaned down and nipped at one of her ears with a soft growl, his hips lurching forward, lewdly grinding his canine sheath and the peeking moisture from the tip all along her bellyfur.

She looked down and saw the red, veiny thing soaking her white-furred abdomen, a thick almost metallic musky scent catching in her nostrils. There was a few second lag before her brain could even process what she was seeing, but one she fully understood she recoiled and jumped back, away from Riley. "Hey.. hey! Shit, keep that thing away from me! I'm not some bitch you can use to get your dick wet!"

Riley was as shocked as Hunter. He hadn't even realized what he was doing, he'd just left instinct on autopilot and been disappointed with the GPS. "I didn't mean to! I wasn't trying to.. god, I swear Riley! I just wanted to make you feel better! I didn't want to.."

Hunter shook her head and groaned, "What kind of shit line is that? Want to make me feel better.. is that what you told your first girlfriend to get her in bed? Tell her that you didn't mean to, didn't want to, it just happened anyway? Bullshit! If you ever try.."

Riley cut her off, "I never even had a girlfriend! I never have!" he yowled out at the top of his lungs, "I never even had sex!"

Hunter paused and an awkward silence filled the room.

"Never?" she asked.

Riley shook his head, "Not even once."

Hunter searched for what to say, frozen with mouth agape.

The black dog looked down at her, "Truth is.. there's not many human girls around anymore, not that I can see at least. Figure I might never get the chance."

Hunter empathized with that feeling of lonliness and longing in the bigger dog's heart that showed in his expression, and all she could do was apologize. "I'm sorry, I didn't know."

Riley just shook his head, "It's okay, I'm sorry too. I really didn't mean to try anything, I just wasn't thinking. I'm.. not used to being a dog yet either. Some things are hard to control.

Hunter nodded, "I know. Trust me, I know.."

Riley yawned, "I'm exhausted and it's my turn with the room. We cool?"

Hunter didn't know what to say. She felt uncomfortable with what had happened but at the same time didn't want to kick Riley where it already hurt. "Sure, we're cool. As long as you promise to never, ever do anything like that again.."

Riley answered with a firm nod, "Promise."

**********

The next few days were awkward for both of them. They barely spoke to one another, much less than usual. Hunter found her thoughts constantly drawn back to how warm and safe she felt when Riley held her, failing to shake the lewd image of his canine arousal from her mind no matter how hard she tried. Riley had started looking at her in a way that almost made her want to wear clothes. He thought she didn't notice, but she was acutely aware of the animalistic way his eyes fell on her form whenever she bent down to work in the garden.

At night she lay in the master bedroom restless and exhausted, mind racing while at the same time devoid of conscious thought. She'd avoided touching or testing her new anatomy other than what was completely necessary up to this point, but on this night her paw mindlessly wandered down between her legs to feel at the plump slickness of her spade. She rubbed it carefully, teasingly with a claw while her mind's eye saw a big black dog climbing over her, his crotch warm nestled between her muscular thighs.

She took a deep breath and held it, teasing her finger along the slit in her vulva before working it inside, a surprised gasp springing from her unbidden when her clawtip first made contact with her clit. She rubbed tiny circles around the sensitive nub, her legs quivering and weak, a strained whimper echoing off the walls. Her breaths grew heavy and soon she was gyrating her hips against her paw and moaning out, quietly at first but then steadily louder.

She was oblivious to how much she was putting out, the squeaking of the bed sounding like there were two participants (at least!) while her moans could easily be heard downstairs. The only thing on her mind was that strong black dog covering her, the sensation coming from down between her legs spreading like wildfire through the rest of her body until her vision flashed with sparkles of white and blue, a hot white heat spraying from her sex and coating the bedsheets and her paw alike as she howled out in orgasmic bliss.

That was much too loud, she admitted to herself as she laid there trying to catch her breath. Ugh, she didn't even mean to do that! The satisfaction of immediate release wore away quickly, leaving only frustration at the loss of control and disgust at the mess she'd allowed herself to make. If Riley didn't hear her, then he'd surely know once he notices the sheets! To say that she was embarassed didn't say the least of it.

At least she felt tired, and so she allowed herself to sleep. For the first time in what felt like forever she slept well, unplagued by the feverish dreams she struggled so mightily to remember each morning.

The next night she couldn't fall asleep no matter how hard she tried. Riley hadn't said anything to hint that he knew what she'd done, and her mind stretched to entertain the possibility that maybe he just hadn't heard her. She still had almost a full week to figure out what to do with the sheets, and they were already dirty anyway. No harm, no foul? Before she could ask herself whether this was a good idea or not, that black dog was again climbing over her, paw slipping down over her crotch..

It was like that the whole week. Every night she grew a little bit more confident, went on for a little bit longer, and got a little bit louder. She carefully kept Riley out of the bedroom during the day, though he didn't pry and seemed to give her the space she wanted. His glances told a different story though. Where once she felt merely ogled by his gaze she now felt completely dominated by it, as if his very eyes themselves could lay claim to her. She took the bedsheets and buried them as far away from the house as she felt safe going, a ways past where the cattle grazed, and headed back.

**********

"Riley, we need to talk."

Riley looked up from his glass of iced tea as he sipped on a straw, "Mmm-hmm."

Hunter paused to search for the words before continuing, "I need you to stop looking at me like you do. It's fucked up, makes me feel super uncomfortable, and.."

Riley shook his head and cut her off, "Looking at you like what?"

The smaller dog leaned in and whispered, "Like you're hungry!"

The Belgian Shepherd suddenly burst out in a hearty laugh while Hunter seemed lost and confused. Finally she spoke up, "What's so god damned funny?!"

Riley stopped laughing and tilted his head, "You're really serious right now? You.. want me to stop looking at you?"

"Yes!!" Hunter barked sharply.

Riley shook his head, "Even though you make a point of showing yourself off whenever I'm around? I pretty much can't lift my head without seein' you bend your fuckin' self over and show off the goods.."

Hunter interrupted, "What?! I'm not trying to.." but Riley wasn't yet ready to let her have the floor. His black fur bristled as he spoke, "It's not like it wasn't hard enough before, but now that you've made a point of lifting your tail every time and with your junk all.. puffed up like it is, makes it really hard not to look. And the smell.." he inhaled deeply through his nostrils, seeming almost dizzy for a moment, ".. can't wait 'till this shit is over."

The Australian Shepherd girl ducked her head in embarassment and confusion. She thought back and realized he was right, she'd been lifting her tail whenever she bent down in front of him for the past few weeks when she'd never done that before, but the fact that it was almost impossible to control made it even harder to notice! And what smell was he talking about? The only thing she noticed in the air was his heavy masculine musk, trying to ignore the tingle that it put down between her thighs.

She shook her head, "Riley, this is never going to be over.. I thought we were past that."

The black dog lifted his head confidently, "I know it probably really sucks right now. Just give it a few weeks and.." he paused, his eyes aglow with sudden realization. "Wait. Do you not know?"

She looked just as confused as ever, "Know what?" She looked up at the larger dog and saw his chest heaving with labored breath, nostrils flared and fur bristled. It was evident he was trying to keep the drool off his jowls. It was a look that seemed strangely familiar, though she couldn't quite place it..

It was Riley's turn to share in the embarassment. If she didn't know, was it his place to tell her? How could he even get the words out of his mouth? He tried his best, "You're.. uhm, well.." he stammered and stalled out.

Then it hit her. She realized where she'd seen a dog that looked like that before. It was his donor. She'd seen Riley's genetic donor looking just as revved up and flustered. But that was only whenever the other dog would go into... whenever her donor was...

"In heat." She just let the words fall out of her mouth without any of the normal force indicative of belief in what one is saying. "I'm in heat." She said with no more credibility than the first time she'd said it. "Shit."

Riley just nodded and she noticed the way he tried to use a paw to conceal the burgeoning growth between his legs. "Yeah. I'm, uhh... really sorry you have to deal with all that."

Hunter growled, "Shit. Shit! I didn't realize.. I never thought that I would have to.." She paused and looked up to meet Riley's gaze with her piercing blues, "What am I supposed to do?" she whined a low droning note that was more animalistic in nature than the sounds she'd usually be caught making.

That whine triggered something in Riley. Her scent had been soaking in his olfactory for some time, his head boiled in pheromone stew. It sounded so needy, so helpless that he couldn't help the way his hips lurched forward, a scene playing out in his imagination where he threw down and ravaged the smaller dog like the beasts they were. It took every ounce of his willpower to stop that fantasy from creeping into reality right then and there.

She took a step back, "Are you.."

Riley snorted and huffed, "I'm okay. Sorry. Just. Okay. Give me a second." He blinked a few times, shook his head and drew deep breaths through his mouth rather than his nose. The black dog seemed to regain his composure and continued, "You just gotta wait it out, like I said. Give it a few weeks maybe. Keep doing what you're doing, make all the noise you want."

Hunter blushed a deep shade through her white cheekfur as she realized what she already knew - that he'd been able to hear her nightly escapades. But each night it required more to get less, each session never as gratifying as the last. She woke up each day with an even stronger fire burning in her belly, powerful instincts clouding her mind and polluting her normally sane thoughts, making it hard to focus on what she was supposed to be doing at any given moment.

She opened her mouth to say something, but Riley spoke up before she could get anything out, "Of course, there's always the other option."

Hunter tilted her head, "The.. other.. option..? You mean.." she trailed off, lingering on that thought as if she were afraid to complete it.

Riley nodded, "That's right. The old fashioned way. Set you straight in a few days maybe. But, uhh.. of course that has other consequences too.."

The Aussie dog couldn't believe what she was hearing. Was he really suggesting what she thought he was? She cleaned out one of her ears with a pawfinger as if to make sure. "You're saying you want to knock me up!" She was blushing furiously, a broad smile or hearty laugh wanting to burst out of her, the canine fighting with all of her strength against those inclinations.

Riley shook his head, "Not saying that I want to. I mean! I'm sure I would enjoy.. uhh.. but not too much!"

Hunter slapped him on the chest, not hard enough to hurt but with enough strength to know he'd been hit, "You're gross." That laugh and smile finally welled up and split the seams of her facade, breaking out to the surface.

Riley could barely believe that she was smiling. Was she actually interested? He threw a bone, "..of course, no reason it'd have to be me. I'm sure there's another dog on the farm who'd love to have a go at it, too!" With a wry grin he slapped her on the hip just about as hard as she'd hit him, enough to make her jump and bark.

"Ugh! So gross!" She shook her head and tried to feign the disgust that was expected of her, "I'd never do it with a dog! I mean, like.. an actual shit-eating dog.."

Riley grinned from ear to ear, "Guess I'm the only option 'round here then." Was this really working? Had he reeled her in that easily?

Hunter reached up and bopped him on the snout, "In your dreams, horndog."

After fighting back the urge to respond 'Every night!' and wrestling with the ramifications of doing so, Riley resolved to make a more reasonable, measured response. "Just know I'm here for you, okay? If you need me to do something, anything to help you through this, let me know. If you need me to stay away and do nothing, tell me that too. I just want to help."

She shook her head, "It's okay. You don't need to stay away, please.." She'd never admit how much she hated the thought of him staying away from her, the feeling of his fur against hers when they'd seldom touched constantly creeping into her consciousness.

Riley nodded, "Alright, I won't then. I'll stay as close as you want me to be. You can keep sleeping in the big bedroom as long as you want to, I'll make up my turns once you're done with all this.."

She protested, "No, it's your turn, you can have it."

The black dog shrugged. He wasn't going to make a point of such a minor issue. If she didn't want it, he'd take it. He was grateful she hadn't went to get the old varmit gun after the things he'd said. Anything past that, he took as an uncontested win.

Riley changed gears, "Riley, I gotta come clean on something, straight up with you. I haven't been completely honest.."

Her ears perked and she was instantly engaged, ready to scold him for his mistake or laugh at his joke, whichever way it turned out.

The larger dog's voice had a deep timbre as he spoke quietly, almost at a whisper, "Have you been down to the basement much?" Hunter shook her head. "At all?" Again she signaled negative.

Riley grinned, "Have I got a surprise for you, then. It's a big-ass wine cellar, dude! Full of booze!"

Hunter's ears swiveled towards the basement door. The rest of his head followed somewhat thereafter. "Whaaaat? Why didn't you say so? That's just what I need.. I'm gonna go check it out right now!"

Her paws couldn't carry her fast enough down those steps to the cool wine cellar, rows of racked bottles greeting her when she arrived. She knew very little about different types of wine or vintages, grabbing a random bottle and opening it with her jaws, grinning over at Riley with the cork still stuck in her teeth. "This much wine will last forever!"

"Yeah sure, not if you have your way with it.." Riley grabbed a bottle for himself and followed her back upstairs. They sat on the living room couch, turning on the small radio in the middle of the room that played the same public service announcement on constant loop. The fur around their mouths took on a purple hue, though much more prominent in the white fur of the Aussie girl.

"There is no cure."

Each time through the announcement she'd stop paying attention, her focus falling elsewhere, only for those words to snap her back to reality.

"There is no cure."

She drank a heavy swig of her fermented grapes each cycle through until the words didn't seem as harsh, didn't bite with as much of a stinging impact.

"There is no cure."

Finally she regarded the statement with the same dispassionate disinterest with which an ant regards their place in the universe. Without emotion and ego, it became blindingly obvious. For the first time, she looked down over her body and recognized it as herself. It felt good.

Riley finally spoke up after they'd listened in silence for some time, "You okay? Your eyelids look droopy.."

Hunter laughed, "No! Of course I'm not, this sucks! But I'm okay enough to keep laughing, keep living!" she stood up as if she were suddenly inspired to take off on some noble quest before gracelessly falling back onto the couch. Her head rested against the black dog's shoulder and before she knew what had happened his arm was around her, holding her close as they sat together on the couch.

She was really drunk. She looked down at the empty bottle and noted that it didn't seem too big for her to handle, she'd had more than that before, ha! It didn't register that she was 80 pounds lighter than she used to be. She reached up a paw to rub through Riley's chestfur, "So fuzzy.." It made him giggle, which made her very happy.

Resting her head against him gave her full view of his exposed crotch, watching the reddish tip poke in and out of his bristly furred sheath with each breath he took, the tingling musk of masculinity stinging her nostrils and making the needy itch down between her legs impossible to ignore.

Inhibitions stripped through drink, the normal barriers that might stop her from behaving so salaciously were completely absent, leaving nothing to stop her paw from veering right down over crotch to try and cool that blazing heat! Her paw reached down and cupped over her canine vulva as she worked a digit inside.

Riley didn't even notice until she tensed up against him and started to moan and whimper, his muzzle hanging open as he watched in awestruck surprise. His hips arched up off the couch beneath him a few times, his growing arousal making his sheath thick and plump as the feral length within struggled to get free. One more arch of his hips again and he lets out a satisfied sigh, several inches of girthy canine mast bursting free of their confinement, spurts of musky smelling precum coating the length and drizzling down to wet his sheath.

Then his paw was over hers, stopping it's movement between her legs. She whimpered in protest as he pulled it away, huffing breaths quivering and hips arching with urgency. He leaned in close and whispered with a growling nip to her ear, "Let me help.." A soft nod of the head was the only reply she could manage.

She watched as he moved down to kneel on the carpeted floor, his paws on her thighs while he leaned in to nose and snuffle through her bellyfur, finding a perky little nipple hidden there which he carefully teases with his teeth. The scent coming from this bitch's crotch was so overpowering that all he could think about was mounting her right then and there, filling her with his pups and making sure that she knew her place. His hips lurched forward but he controlled himself, instead lowering his head to taste directly at his friend's forbidden anatomy, broad canine tongue stroking over spade shaped vulva in several long, slow strokes before he started to work it inside.

Hunter tensed at first, then relaxed, then yowled out and threw her head back, Riley's tongue triggering instinctive pleasure centers that were just being activated in her for the first time. "Oh. Oh! Shit! Right there! Don't stop.." She reached down and grabbed the fur along the back of his head with her paw to help guide him when his tongue first stroked over her clit, her vision blurring while her hips humped upwards to lewdly mash her crotch against Riley's snout.

Riley couldn't decide what he liked better, the way her heated canine sex gripped down on his tongue so possessively or the eagerness with which she shoved his snout down into her crotch! His tail wagged happily behind him, the brushy appendage arched high and proud while he tongued out his new bitch, instinct telling him that she would surely be his to fully claim sooner or later.

Her moans grew louder in a way that Riley had only heard from across the house before, the slickness dripping from his muzzle made to look tame by the sudden spray of orgasmic juices that followed, the bitch howling and wailing out as he dug his claws into her thighs, struggling to hold the thrashing dog as he kept swirling his tongue over her clit until he was given every indication that she'd finished.

Riley looked up at her, panting grin on his messy face. "Good?"

She could only nod in half-stupor and pat him on the head before laying back on the couch, "Good."

The black dog stood up, his throbbing arousal straining at full size as it proudly jut out from his abdomen. Looking over to Hunter he could see that she was exhausted, her eyes already half-shut. He couldn't take advantage of her in this sort of shape, no way, even if there was nothing more in the world that he wanted in that very moment.

He reached down to affectionately rub over one of her ears, scratching gently behind it. He supposed he'd just leave the next step up to her. "I'm going to bed. If you need anything. ANYTHING! Then you know where to find me.." She nodded and he noticed her eyes close fully before he walked up the stairs.

**********

Riley couldn't sleep right away, especially when the bed he was laying on smelled so much of her. He made a cursory go of it for a bit, but soon found the aching throb of his arousal too much to ignore, closing his eyes and imagining himself stuffed deep up inside the Aussie dog's grasping sex as his paw wrapped down around his scarlet canine length.

Hunter woke up on the couch and shook her dreary, dizzied head. How long was she out? Did that really just happen? She was still very drunk, of that much she was certain, so she couldn't have slept for very long. It was hard to maintain a consistent train of thought. She decided the couch was no longer comfortable enough and climbed the stairs in an exhausted, drunken haze, falling into bed and sinking back to sleep immediately.

Riley was startled by the sudden shifting on the bed next to him. He stopped stroking his length and opened his eyes, only barely able to make out Hunter's outline next to him in the darkened room. She was laid out on her side facing away from him, his eyes naturally drawn to the curvature of her hips and rump. He figured there's only one thing she had in mind if she'd join him in bed like this. His nostrils flared with deep breaths and he decided to test the waters.

The black dog rolled over to join her on her side, wrapping his paw around her midriff and resting it on her lower abdomen, schooching up behind her. The feel of stiffened nipples beneath his pawfingers let him know just how excited she was. His breaths were shaky. He'd couldn't remember being more excited at any moment in his life than he was right now. Not even close.

The way her tail flagged and lifted before draping itself down over his midsection was even more encouraging. With that neatly out of the way, he was free to arch his hips forward until he felt his slick length grinding up against the soft fur along her curvaceous rump. He heard her breaths quicken pace and felt her heartbeat accelerating through his own body, fur of his chest snug up against her back as he shifted his hips lower.

A quiet little whimper crept out of the sleeping dog, a meek and needy plea that spoke so strongly to Riley's basest of instincts that it couldn't possibly be ignored. His paw on her abdomen tightened it's grip, cock straining and spurting pre as it slipped down along the smaller canine's rump before he gasped and huffed. His tip had found the wet heat of her canine vulva, nudging his hips forward as the bitch in his grasp moaned out encouragement.

He leaned in and nipped at her ear with a growl, "Guess this means you've made your decision.." he said authoritatively rather than asking, shifting and angling his hips while nudging her spade with his pre-soaked tip. The smaller dog shifted herself in his grasp, arched haunches presenting a much better angle, the soft "Mmmm.." escaping from between her lips vanquishing any doubts Riley might've had before. She was his now.

With her hips arched back against him his tapered tip immediately caught in the slit at the center of her canine spade, parting dark outer flesh to reveal pink inner heat. He gave no pause to savor the moment, humping forward triumphantly much like a feral dog who'd finally found his mark after mounting his prize bitch, huffing out and gritting his teeth while his firm grip around her midriff pulled her snug against his crotch.

Hunter opened her eyes. It would've been hard for Riley to notice that they'd been closed the whole time. She was panting so heavily that she couldn't will her tongue to stay in her mouth, her heart just about jumping out of her chest every other beat. She felt an all encompassing warmth, strength, and power wrapped around her, squeezing up inside of her. Was this some sort of crazy dream? She became vaguely aware that she could feel a second heartbeat from the throbbing presence stretching her loins before it started moving.

What she experienced next was the opposite of what a human would consider romantic. It was bestial. Vulgar. It was the closest thing to romance most dogs get, the feeling of being possessed and coveted while an eager stud covers his prize.

Riley pulled his hips back, his vermillion shaft withdrawn halfway before he thoughtlessly buried himself to the hilt, the fur of his sheath pressed wetly against Hunter's lewdly distended vulva while his heavy balls rest against her thighs. His grip tightened further. He didn't realize just how big he was for her nor how tight she'd be, pulling back on her haunches and grinding his hips with nearly all the strength in his body just to stay as deep as instinct drives him to be. His jaws closed around the nape of her neck, huffing possessive growls and eagerly claiming his prize, dominating the bitch while impaling her over and over again on his bare, turgid doghood.

Hunter couldn't react nearly fast enough to stop the big, black dog. By the time she realized that she wasn't dreaming all she could manage were desperate pants and moans, whimpering lowly with ears folded back in submission to the strong male spread thick between her legs. Each stroke of his canine length sent a shock up her spine as it spread her tight slick breeding tunnel anew, each thrust erasing any thoughts she'd tried to put together since the last and replacing them with a jolt of raw sensation and pleasure that made her cry out in purest bliss.

Her vision blurred as Riley's thrusts grew shorter and somehow more aggressive than before, his claws digging into the fur and flesh along her hip as each shove forward made his furred balls smack roughly against her, the rhythm of their union echoing wet slapping and suction sounds off the walls of the bedroom. Between her desperate cries and moans she realized that it didn't seem like he was pulling out at all anymore with each thrust, instead only tugging at her insides while a building pressure grew against her clit.

She remembered something about dogs just then. She'd probably never forget again. Looking down even in the dark she could see Riley's sheath bunched up against her vulva, that canine spade not stretched wide around the girth of his shaft but instead a more recognizable shape as it had closed down around the base of his canine length right behind the knot. She reached down and could feel the bulb of his doghood as it grew inside of her with her paw, panic rising within the bitch just as rapidly as the building release that forced her canine anatomy to squeeze and ripple encouragement all around the swelling tool, powerful vaginal muscles forsaking her and clamping down around that knot, refusing to let go.

Hunter's eyes were wide, her tail thumping wildly back against Riley now. "Oh god! Shit! Wait.." she barely managed the words before her eyes rolled back in her head and a thunderous fire spread throughout her entire body in billowing waves, each one stronger than the last. They made her jump and convulse in the black dog's grasp, holding onto her with firmly gripping claws though the tie was so solid given their size difference that she'd nowhere to go anyway. He huffed and panted into her ear, "Shh, shh.. good girl.." Each time she convulsed in his arms her breeding tunnel pulsated and tensed around his buried doghood, making him grit his teeth and fold his ears back.

If there were ever a time for doubts or second thoughts they'd long passed it no matter what Hunter said in the moment, the black dog's straining cock swollen to it's full girth making her whimper even in her peak at the way it stretched her insides. Tapered tip pressed snug against her cervix, it only took a few more urgent jerks of Riley's hips before a hot spray of fertile dogcum flooded her overripe womb. Her blinding orgasm started to taper just in time to feel the details of each load swelling and pulsing up his canine length, a throb and twitch of the tip accompanying the filling warmth that was somehow meant to quench her heat.

He gripped her tightly, holding her snug against his larger frame while he stroked at her lower abdomen, able to feel with his paw each throb and spray of his cock as he filled her with his pups. The thought made him smile brightly, his tail wagging. Hunter was whining just like any bitch who'd been tied for the first time, but instinct told him that a few licks to the nape and a soothing voice were more than enough to quiet such a conquest. He nuzzled her firmly, "It's okay, good girl.." he murmured to her, left satisfied when she stopped whining.

Hunter panted frantically, her claws raking the bedsheets whining and whimpering until Riley spoke to her like that, the words combined with his touch somehow calming her as she started to catch her breath and come down from her high. All the while Riley continued to fill her with his potent dog sperm, the Australian Shepherd acutely aware that there was nothing either of them could do to stop it at this point. At least she knew she'd be safe. With his paws were wrapped around her holding her so tight and close she was confident of at least that one thing if nothing else.

She suddenly realized that she felt very much sober again. Looking down between her legs to see the thick canine-shaped bulge stretching her anatomy, she watched it pulse and twitch in the darkness for a few minutes, noticing the way her own vaginal muscles seemed to squeeze and relax constantly to instigate and provoke the swollen red shaft into spilling every last bit of it's heavy load.

She took a deep breath and opened her mouth, saying the first thing that came to mind. "Well, shit. What are we gonna do now?"

Riley growled softly into her ear which made her shudder from head to toe, "We just wait a little while. It'll come out eventually."

Hunter growled and reached back to smack him, "You know that's not what I mean!"

Riley rubbed his paw up and down her chest and abdomen, stroking over her breasts and firm nipples, her body stretching under his touch. "Let's talk tomorrow." he rumbled to her lowly, sending another shudder up her spine.

She conceded with a nod, "Tomorrow."

The two soon fell fast asleep.
