Last night:
There was that voice again. It called to him. "Axel... Axel can you hear
me?... I've been waiting for you. Soon we will meet... and when we do, your
life will change forever..."
Then he awoke, sweaty and flustered as usual. "Damn, that voice... it
was her again. That's the third time this week."
Two days ago:
The first time he heard her voice, he almost couldn't hear her. He
could barely make out the words, because her voice was so soft, almost a
whisper.
One day ago:
The second time he could hear her more clearly.
"Hello?..."
"Hello?!... I ... I cant see! Is somebody there?" Axel said as darkness
surrounded him in his dream. "Where are you?"
"Hello!?" she said in a scared and frightened tone. "Axel, I'm scared!"
His eyes went wide "how did you know my name?"
"Your name is Axel isn't it?"
"... Y... yes... yes it is, but how did you know my name?"
"Wha... how?... I... I don't know, I just knew... Axel I'm scared..."
Not knowing what to say, he just floated there in the darkness, trying
to think about how she knew his name, and furthermore, who she was.
Then suddenly he was torn from his dream by his alarm clock.
"Man, what the hell is with these dreams?... And why does she sound
like she's in danger? And more importantly, who is she, and how is she
talking to me in my dreams?" Axel thought aloud as he got ready for
another day at work.
Axel was the owner and head mechanic of: Dragon Arts Racing and Speed
Shop.
He stood six-foot-one, and had a strong, toned build; not overly built,
however. He also sported brown hair and red eyes,
and his face was quite handsome.
As he drove to work, traffic was light, as usual for a Saturday
morning. All the while, he was constantly thinking about the dreams he had
been having, unable to shake them from his thoughts, that was, until he
had noticed a car that was for sale. He pulled over to check it out,
awing at it.
"Man, what a beauty..." he thought, staring at its mechanical beauty. A
1961 Jeep Willys Overland. The body was in amazing condition - well,
amazing condition for living in Michigan; the interior left something to
be desired. Still, it was a remarkable sight in his eyes.
He heard someone walk up behind him after only a few more seconds. "So,
I see your interested in my Jeep," The unfamiliar voice declared. Axel
turned around, smiling widely.
"Yeah, it's in amazing condition."
"Yeah," The newcomer concurred with a chuckle, holding out his hand to
proffer a handshake. "Oh, by the way, my name's Glen."
"Axel," Axel said as he met Glens hand with his own. "So what's your
asking price for the Jeep?"
As they shook hand Glen took notice of Axels red eyes, and when he looked
into them a chill was sent up his spine.
"Well, I was asking for two, but when nobody called or even came to ask
about it, I decided to lower the price, which was what I was about to
do when I found you out here. So now im asking... oh I don't know, how's
five hundred sound?"
"Deal. I'll have one of my flatbeds come and pick it up at
twelve-o-clock. Is that ok?"
"Yeah, sure... but did you say 'one of my flatbeds' as in a flatbed truck?"
Axel nods. "Yup. I own a shop not too far from here."
"Really? Which one?"
"Dragon Arts Racing and Speed Shop."
"Really!" the Glen said excitedly. "I've heard good things about what
comes out of that shop... ya know, I've got a nineteen-seventy Chevelle I
was thinking of taking to the strip, but maybe I'll take a drive by
your shop and see what you can do with it."
"Really!? That's awesome! The only thing I get any more is a bunch of
Hondas and other imports, so I think that this will be a welcome change.
I look forward to seeing you at the shop."
So after exchanging the money for the Jeep, Glen and Axel parted ways
and Axel went to work.
After a long day, Axel went home and made a quick dinner for himself,
and after writing down a few things he was going to need for the jeep,
he fell asleep in front of his T.V.
"Help! Axel where are you?!"
His eyes shot open and he sat bolt upright. "What? Who's there?"
"Axel help me please!" the female voice said with a tone of fear and
pleading.
"Wha?... where are you?" he says to the air, while still in a waking
daze, not knowing how she could talk to him while he was out of his
dream.
"I...I don't know!"
"What do you see?"
"Uhh... I see large machines with buckets on them, and a sign..." she
said her voice shaking a little.
"What does the sign say?"
"It... it says Sharp's Construction Company."
That must be the new building that's being constructed just down
town, he thought. "Don't move, I'll be right there!"
"O... ok..." she said a little uncertain but sounding more stable.
Axel then went to the closet in his room, and after searching for a
second, found what he had been looking for: a Colt model 1911 .45 ACP.
After making sure he had a full clip, and one in the chamber, he clicked
the safety on, put it in its holster, put it on his belt, and pulled his
shirt over it, and running out to his car, a ninety-eight Supra Turbo,
heavily modified by himself.
After driving about ninety miles an hour down side streets and main
roads, he came to the construction site after about five minuets, checked
his weapon one last time, and pulled out a flashlight as he walked into
the site. He looked around for a couple of minutes, and seeing no one
around, he was about to turn back, thinking rather hopelessly.
"What if im in the wrong site? What if im in the wrong state or
country?" he questioned himself, still shining the flashlight's beam in all
directions, becoming increasingly aggravated. "This is crazy... I'm going
home. why did I even come out here? And why the hell is she talking to
me?..."
As he made his turn back to his vehicle, something odd had caught his
attention. Here he was, smack-dab in the middle of a construction site
with metals bars, sharp wooden slabs, and many hard, acute angles, but
what grabbed his notice wasn't very sharp at all; a rounded shape
contrasting the polygonal surroundings that was moving slightly. Axel was
quite surprised when it actually stood up.
Without hesitation, he drew his sidearm and aimed at the shape,
noticing though that the shaded silhouette didn't quite look human;
bipedal, yes, but it was tall... taller than him by a full foot.
"S-stay back... I'm armed!" he shouted in the silhouette's direction, his
hands quivering with the weight of the gun, although it wasn't heavy at
all.
"NO! Please don't hurt me!" said the shape as it crouched back into its
hiding place. Instantly, the voice was recognized.
"Y... you... you're the one from my dreams!" Axel said in astonishment,
his aim dropping to the ground
"P... please don't hurt me!" she said in a frightened tone.
"No... no, I'm not going to hurt you..." he said, holstering his weapon.
"You called to me in my dreams. Im here to help you."
Even though she was somewhat weirded-out from his earlier agression, at
hearing this she burst from her cover and ran to him. But what
surprised Axel the most was not the startling speed with which she moved, but
instead, he was startled by the fact that when she entered the beam from
his flashlight, she wasn't human in the least...
"Y... you're a..." he said in a hazy way, just before he fainted.
"Wh... where am I?..." said Axel as he floated in darkness, save for a
shaft of light that was nearby.
"Ha, ha, haa..." said a deep, and booming voice somewhere in the
darkness. The sound of the voice made Axel cringe and shake.
"Who... who are you?" the human questioned.
"Ha ha. Me?"
Just then, a demon stepped into the shaft of light, body glistening in
a wet sheen. The very sight of it made Axel cringe in fear,
something he wasn't exactly known for.
"The questions you should be asking is who, and what, are you." the
demon's voiced boomed out again.
"What? 'who and what am I'? I'm Axel, and I'm human."
"Ha. That's right... you are human, and your name is Axel, but the real
question you should be asking yourself is this: Will you be able to let
her go when the time comes?"
"Let her go? Let who go? I don't even have a family!"
Axel never knew his family. He was orphaned at two years old, and grew
up in a foster home, where he had few friends, as well as where his obsession
with cars started.
"Well then I wont be the one to spoil it for you..." The demon continued.
"I will let you find that out for yourself."
Just then, the demon rushed Axel and punched him in the chest,
startling the human awake. He was lying on packed dirt, so he figured he was
still at the construction site. It was still dark out as well, so he
couldn't have been there for long. He sat up, and immediately clutched his
chest as he felt a searing pain near his sternum.
"Agh!... w... was that a dream?" he said, holding his chest still.
"... I don-" said a female from behind him, cut off by Axel's sudden
reaction.
"HOLY SHIT!" yelled Axel, scrambling to its feet, and he began
backing away from the shadow that was sitting behind him. However, he
had heard a sound that stopped him dead in his tracks...
She was crying.
"H... H-hey, no d... don't cry... I-I didn't mean to scare you..." He tried
to convince, suddenly all his fears gone. He started walking towards
her, and as he got closer, she turned her back to him and continued to
cry. Another surprise which had passed his notice quickly became apparent:
she had wings! And her skin looked smooth, but was actually made of scales
that looked as if they were a metallic white, tightly but evenly packed. Her
hair shimmered in a beautiful cascade of cobalt, and she also possessed a
lengthened tail, which was curled up around her knees at the moment as she cried.
After a short, while she eased her grip and stood back a little, her
brilliantly pink eyes stared directly into his down her elongated muzzle.
Seeing her tear stained face had him feel something inside him break, and
he was suddenly overcome with an urge to comfort her as best he could. And
with that, he reached out and cradled her in his arms pulling her close.
At first she resisted, but only slightly, realizing his intent in a quick
moment, and embracing him a second time - only this time, she wasn't crying.
She just fell into his embrace, and held him as he held her, and soon had
fallen asleep in his arms.
At realizing that she was fast asleep, he decided that he had better
take her to his house and look after her until she was awake. He lifted
her by her legs and torso, her light mass catching him a bit off guard
as he proceeded to walk towards his car. Putting her in the passenger
seat upright, he carefully buckled her in, using the lighting of the car
to mentally archive that she not only had beautiful eyes, but an
amazing body as well, including a very filled-in chest and for the first
time noticing that she was nude.
The drive back was uneventful. When he reached his house, he parked his
car, got out, and went to the passenger side to get his new female
companion. When he got into his house, he laid her on his couch, and in the
dim lighting, sat down himself inside of the chair across from her,
staring over her again, realizing that she was definitely draconian, while
simultaneously thinking about all that had happened at the construction
site. He fell asleep not too long after.
"You came for me," said a voice, belonging to that of the white female
dragon.
"W... why did you call to me in my dreams?" Axel spoke back.
"Why? I don't know... I just wished that someone would help me, and I
finally got a response in the form of you, Axel..."
"How come you know my name, but I don't know yours?"
"My name is Lana, and I don't know how I know your name; it just popped in
my head when I was trying to contact someone for help."
"Lana...?"
"Yes?"
"W... what are you?" he asked, cautiously.
"I... I'm a dragon." Lana responded quietly.
"I kinda thought so, but I wanted to be sure, because... I was wondering...
why did you need my help? I mean, can't you, like, breath fire and stuff like that?"
"...N...no...no, I can't. You're thinking of the mythical dragon; I'm just
a regular dragon."
"Hmm..."
Neither spoke back for some time, until Lana broke the silence,
insecurely. "Axel?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you for coming for me."
"...No problem."
"Umm, can I stay here with you?"
"yea sure I... I just need some time to think about all this."
And with that, Axel fell into a dreamless slumber for the first time in
ages.
As he awoke he felt himself wrapped up in someone's embrace. Slowly he opened his eyes and found himself staring at Lana. Resisting the urge to recoil and move away from her, as he never expected her to be so close, he just continued to look at her face. At feeling him move Lana lightly tightened her grip on Axel, tightening her wings around him and purred softly in her sleep. Feeling her tighten around him he relaxed a little and started wondering when he ended up on the floor and why she was snuggled up to him? But for the moment he just enjoyed being held by her.
after about ten minuets Axel decided it was time to get up, and not wanting to startle her awake considering all she seemed to have been through, he gently started rubbing her back and in response she started to purr louder. When that didn't seem like it was working he stopped rubbing, but when he did she pulled him closer and snuggled into him more wrapping her tail around one of his legs. When the tip of her tail rubbed against his inner thigh he let our a small "eep" and a shudder, which roused Lana out of her sleep. Slowly she opened her eyes and looked straight into Axels, she just lay there for a moment before realizing that he was awake and looking directly into her eyes questioningly, suddenly she pulled away and sat back on the couch with her knees pulled up under her chin, her tail was wrapped around her feet, and her arms wrapped around her middle, looking away so as not to meet his gaze.
"S...sorry I...I didn't mean to..." Lana said with a hint of embarrassment in her voice
"N-no its ok...umm why were you...uh holding me like that?"
"I...I woke up and saw you shivering so I went over and noticed a cool breeze coming from outside...so I shut the window and tried to keep you warm..." she lied. She actually just wanted to be close to him, because she felt safe with him around
"Uh...t-thank you" said Axel now sitting up and looking out a nearby window and noticing it was light out "shit! What time is it?" he said looking at the clock on the wall
"What!? What's wrong?" she said now suddenly concerned
"Damn I was supposed to be at work an hour ago, I'm sorry but I need to go ill be back at four-o-clock pm" he said starting to get to his feet and walking to the door to the next room
"Where are you going...don't leave me here alone...I'm scared" she said starting to cry
At hearing her cry he felt the same breaking feeling as last night in the construction site, and stopped in mid-stride.
"Ok" he said walking over to her and giving her a soft hug to try to calm her down "I wont leave...just let me make a call to tell my foreman that I wont be coming in today...ill stay here"
She hugged him hard so as to not let him leave her. And at hearing that he wasn't going to be leaving she relaxed a little.
"Ok" she said sniffling a little
as Axel went to the phone he wondered what he was going to tell Jeff. Jeff Archer, 30, was the foreman at Dragon Arts Racing and Speed Shop and has worked there for six years now supervising work and keeping the technicians happy.
*ring*
...
*ring*
...
*rin-* "Good morning thank you for calling Dragon arts Racing, Jeff speaking how may I help you?"
"Jeff, its Axel. I wont be able to make it to work today can you cover for me?"
"Damn it Axel, where the hell are you that you can't make it here?"
"Hey hey hey! don't get that authoritative tone with me remember I'm still your boss!"
"Hey take it easy it was a joke...damn Axel what's gotten into you lately?"
"Sorry... I...I've had a lot on my mind. And...uh never mind ill talk to you later"
"Hey don't worry about it. Ok ill catch you later. Bye"
"Bye"
*click*
"Damn I hate it when he does that" Axel said to himself as he walked back into the living room when he noticed that Lana was curled up on the chair he slept on last night, when he walked up to the chair he noticed that she was shorter... much shorter maybe five-six now instead of the seven-foot dragoness he saw last night. As he sat down on the couch he let out a small sigh, and he just sat looking at the sleeping dragon.
After a short while Axel noticed that Lana was twitching and groaning a little.
"She must be having a bad dream" he thought to himself.
"Uuuuhh! Mmmmm...no...grrrrr...AXEL!...nooo...grrrrr..." she said in her sleep as she started to sob.
"Hmm...a very bad dream" he said softly as he walked over to her.
"NO!!!" she shouted as she sat upright crying a little, the dream scarring her awake.
"Hey hey, its ok it was just a dream, your ok" he said softly trying to calm her down. As she wrapped her arms around him and cried into his shoulder, wetting his shirt.
"A...Axel...y...your...ok...I...I...I thought...y...you...w...were...
d-dead" she said still crying.
"Shhhhh. No I'm still here, shhhh its ok" he said comforting her.
"A...Axel?"
"Yes?"
"Don't ever leave...I don't want to be alone again"
"I wont, don't worry"
After a few minuets she stopped crying and pulled away form Axel and proceeded to tell him all about her dream.
The End
To be continued.
