#37 of Dragon Hunter Saga

So can a Dragon keep a pair of hot headed foolish war horse unicorns from rushing into foolish trouble?

I exit through the farm gate into the farming area to see Starburst with his wings flared out speaking in even tones to a very upset Sir Iron. "You need to wait till we know what is going on, it could be dangerous for you." Sir Iron stamps a hoof, "no; those are our people. We need to rescue them." I step around Starburst and Sir Iron focuses on me, "Hunter you must let us go rescue our people from those horrible humans." I see Alberich behind Sir Iron, looking angry and impatient. I lean against Starburst and take a deep breath.

"If I were do make the same request what would you say to such a thing Sir Iron?" I ask attempting to keep an even tone as possible. Sir Iron stamps a hoof again, "it would not be the same. I am not as invaluable as you are Hunter." I point behind the two stallions to the group gathered behind them, "why don't you ask them how valuable you are." The two of them turn about and see the herd standing looking a mixture of worry and anger. Pina speaks up, "you two need to go soak your heads in the water trough." She turns and snorts at Sir Iron, "you are one of our war hero's. You should know better than to rush out like a new born colt, why not ask the Hunter if there is anything she can do?"

I nod a thank you to Pina and comment to Cheshire, {well the filly he likes has a better head on her shoulders it appears}. Cheshire chuckles in my mind, I wait while the stallions think. Starburst relaxes a little but leaves his wings spread. Timothy taps my shoulder, "Hunter Gwen. The other council members have requested you attend the immediate trial of Samantha." I turn to Timothy and shake my head, "no I won't participate in that trial. There is a group of people who would take issue with me participating due to the conflict between us. If they become deadlocked tell them to give Ecthelon my deciding vote." Timothy bows and leaves, and I turn my attention back to the two stallions.

Sir Iron is looking sheepish now, he bows slowly to me. "Pardon M'Lady Hunter. I was a little rash in my thinking, I am gravely concerned for my people do you have any ideas as to how to help retrieve them from those bandits?" I stand straight and nod my head, "yes; our newest resident Leaf is following the bandits." I cut off Starburst with a look before he can say anything then I continue, "I have told her to run if anything could happen to her. I will not sacrifice her."

Sir Iron bows again, "I shall have to thank her then. What will we do though Hunter?" I pat Starburst's foreleg reassuringly, "the idea is to wait for either Leaf to return or for her to send word. Then we can so save those lives, and make their lives mean something. I saw at least two like Cassie mixed in." Sir Iron nods his head gravely, "we shall have to find a way to fix their minds depending on how dispondant they are. The magicals only worry about their horns being intact, this will be a horrible blow to their minds."

Speaking of Cassie, {Hunter you are needed. Moonbeam has woken up and isn't in a good mental state. Ecthelon and Zander as well as Shadow are attempting to restrain him}. Cassie obviously meant for us all to hear it as Sir Iron lowers his head shamefully again, "I will help Hunter. We can't let Moonbeam's dismay overtake his reason. He is a good man, and he would regret his actions later." I nod my head as Starburst folds his winds and jumps onto the nearest building and heads into town. I also head into town with Alberich and Sir Iron following me.

I get to the center of town to see Moonbeam being barely restrained by the elf, human, and centaur. Alberich and Sir Iron rush in and place themselves on either side of the upset Minotaur who is ranting loudly. "I will kill everyone of them for the harm they did to my people you can't stop me from this!" I look around and see Cassie and Gilorndir talking on the side of the square, and I head over to them. They both look up as I approach, "please tell me there is something you can do to at least calm him till he sees reason?"

Gilorndir sighs, "technically yes there is a way. Cassie could block his anger and his connection to the memories of the events today, until we can discover how to keep him calm." I look over to Moonbeam trying to wrestle the men off of him and I nod my head and then look at Cassie, "only if you are sure you can do it safely." She nods her head slowly, "I have just never done it before. I shall try my best through Hunter Gwen, I don't like seeing him this way." I nod in agreement as she then steps forward staring at Moonbeam. After a few minutes Moonbeam calms down and stops struggling, "whoa Duuuudes what are you doing?" I take a deep breath and indicate to the others to step back but be wary.

I approach Moonbeam slowly and ask, "Moonbeam I need to ask you something very important alright?" He nods his head, "of course Dudette! Ask away!" I take a deep breath, "if one of your people heard of something that would make them angry what would you do to keep them calm?" Moonbeam looks at the men who had been holding him down nodding his head, "aw I see Dudette! We have some really special 'stuff' we keep in a green bottle in our wagons, and we restrain the dude and make them drink it. Works pretty fast too!" I give Ecthelon a look and he quickly runs off, Moonbeam politely waits; while Ecthelon looks. After almost half an hour he returns with what looks like a very old wine bottle and Moonbeam nods his head, "Yep old Dude that's it! Oh and Dudes you are pretty good at restraining." He keeps standing still while I nod for everyone to get back into place and then turn to Cassie, who looks like she is straining. I place a hand on her shoulder, "alright sweety. Give it back to him, I'll dose him." She nods and her face relaxes and instantly Moonbeam starts struggling with the men holding him still.

I pick up the bottle that Ecthelon had set on the ground out of range of their bodies and I approach them. Zander grabs Moonbeam by one horn and Ecthelon grabs the other and pull his head back so I can pour the liquid down his throat. I only pour a small amount as we don't know how to make the liquid ourselves and he hadn't stated how much to give him. After about a half a cup of the liquid he starts to settle down, "whoa Dudes! That was the good stuff! Sorry about the anger, I need to put my compadres to rest now. Keep the bottle I have more to help my other compadres restore their calm. Have the little Dudette come help me, she should be a part of this." I nod my head in agreement and Cassie walks off to tell Flower to help Moonbeam. Gilorndir takes the bottle gingerly out of my hands and sniffs it.

"Hunter I'll take possession of this, and I'll keep it locked away. This could knock out Starburst if he drank the whole bottle." I nod my head in agreement, and then I look around for the group giving the trial for Samantha. Ecthelon notices my gaze, "they went to the council chambers when Moonbeam woke up. It was better than having them do a trial for her in front of him." I nod my head in agreement and head to the council chamber hoping to hear the trial.

I walk into the stone building pausing in the antechamber and see that the door separating it from the main council chamber was open. There was a chair near the door and if I was careful no one would see me walk near the door. The chair was up against the wall, and thankfully it didn't creak as I sat down in it. I strain to hear what is going on in the next room.

Jake speaks, "So Samantha the charges against you have been read. You are permitted to present evidence against the charges." I could hear a woman I didn't know speak, "well she would if that vile "Hunter" hadn't shattered her jaw. All my friend was trying to do was let some people outside the city inside the city during the fighting, what is wrong with that?" The Druid spoke up, "and where are those people now?" The woman spoke again, "I do not know councilman. They ran away when the bandits ran away, maybe they thought they would be in trouble if they remained behind." I could hear the council members speaking among themselves.

Ecthelon walks in the building them and nods to me as he walks past me and inside the chamber, I hear a squeak from Samantha. Then the woman who was speaking starts again, "what is that elf doing here? He works for that Hunter." Father Peter speaks, "careful how you speak woman. That Hunter you are speaking ill of is the reason we have such a good city to begin with." The woman snorts and the Druid picks up where Father Peter left off, "as stated earlier. The Arms Master being one of the 'Old Ones' is hardly under anyone's 'control', he speaks for himself and will be standing in the place of Hunter Gwen as she chose. Wisely, I might add; to displace herself due to the strife that Samantha has with her. This way it is not considered biased." I could hear a snort from Samantha then the woman speaks again. "I agree with Samantha, this council will be biased anyway. So why pretend you are not, you all think that Samantha is wrong." I couldn't hear more as a group of guards enter the antechamber from outside with a man in chains, and after giving me a nod they walk him inside the chamber. I hear Jake's voice, "yes guards what is this?"

One of the guards answers, "Captain Tammy stated that this man whom was with the bandit group be brought here to give information to the council." I could hear Samantha squeal upon hearing that and her friend speaks. "So you want to hear the word of a bandit? Very just of you."

I hear a slap and the woman shrieks, "how dare you slap me! I am a citizen and I have rights!" Jake speaks, "and you also have the right to shut up. If the guard captain thinks this person needs to be heard it will happen." I then hear a shaking voice speak, "I just followed them because they said we'd be safe. I was starvin' and scared of those strange beasts that appeared everywhere. I saw what they did to those people who were chantin', that was wrong! I have a letter here from someone in this city that I had delivered to the leader of the group. After he had read it he just threw it on the ground and ordered me to get rid of it. I kept it because paper is hard to find now."

The man started reading the letter which had apparently come from Samantha saying how she would let them in if they got her out of the city after. Samantha starts squealing again, and the council starts talking among themselves. The woman breaks into the chatter, "you can't possibly believe that? It's from a member of that group," I then hear a gasp and the sound of water and one of the merfolk speaks. "So how about I place this truth ball over Samantha's head? If she tries to deny falsely it will suffocate her, and just to test it watch." It goes silent a moment and then the mer speaks, "now woman. Ask your friend if her name is Samantha."

The test occurred and of course nothing happens, then the mer speaks to Samantha. "So Samantha do you deny the letter that man just read?" I hear silence and the Druid speaks, "I believe we have our answer. We need to decide on a punishment then."

The guards leave with the man and the friend of Samantha speaks again, "this is not right how is this just?" The Druid speaks and I could hear the smile in his voice, "would ye like to witness justice woman? Aside from the creatures you folk considered myth returning so did the old Gods. I could call upon one of the old Gods to administer 'Justice' upon ye." I hear a quick answer from the woman, "no that's not necessary." Not sup rising they wouldn't want true justice.

{Yet Hunter they shall have it anyway}. I hear a gasp in the next room and I rush inside and see the Druid bowing deeply to a woman standing in the middle of the council chamber. "Lady Morrigan what do we owe this honor?" The Druid speaks from the floor, she smiles and looks to me, "oh I was coming today to speak with your Hunter. Then I heard how this woman feels she is not getting true Justice." She turns to Samantha who faints and the dark haired woman standing next to her gives me an evil look.

Morrigan shakes her head at the disrespect, "that will never due -human-. You are a spoiled brat, you and your friend here shall spend the next few thousand years with the Hunt." I then hear hounds howling and horses outside the council hall. Zander rushes in, "Gwen the Wyld Hunt is here. Do you know why?" I turn to Morrigan and nod my head, "it seems Justice is taking matters into her own hands." Zander blanches when he sees Morrigan and she holds a hand up, "relax Guardian. Just take those two outside and all will be taken care of." Zander nods his head reverently and escorts the two women outside.

You hear briefly screaming then the screams turn into howling of hounds, and the sound of the hounds gets slowly quieter as they move away. I tentatively use my senses to see if I can sense the Hunt. The Wyld Hunt wasn't leaving our plane, but it seemed to be traveling in the direction Leaf went in. Morrigan notices the look on my face. "Do not worry, your friend will be safe and you will be able to retrieve those lost ones shortly."

Morrigan then claps her hands together as Starburst enters the chambers, "good now lets discuss you going after the Matriarch."
