#36 of Dragon Hunter Saga

We rush out of the council chambers, Zander in the lead with Starburst running over the rooftops. Ecthelon complaining about how stupid human's can be, on the other hand seeing a centaur running makes people move out of the way quickly. Thanks to Zander being in the lead we had no hang ups getting to the gate.

We enter the guard building, and go to the stairs in the back leading to the upper wall looking out from the city. Yep there was a tank I could hear Samuel whistle, "wow. That there is a Challenger 2 tank Hunter Gwen, we might have to worry about that 120 MM main gun depending on the walls and gate strength." Rassaes chuckles, "eh there laddie I doubt it'll do anythin to them thar walls." He looks thoughtful a moment then continues, "mite scratch the gate tho. Dunno how tha wood'll hold against one of them thar shells." He looks at the tank thinking hard, and something comes to mind and I turn to Shadow.

"Go and see if Moonbeam is still within the walls, if so keep him away from the gate. His people are out there, I just hope they are hiding." Shadow nods once and rushes off and I peek around the embrasure, and swear. Moonbeam's people were walking towards the tanks holding out flowers and chanting "give peace a chance." I see one of the humans standing near the tank look in their direction. He happens to be holding what looks like a machine gun and Samuel blanches and yells, "you idiots turn around he's holding a SA80 A2." I watch as the human mows down the group of minotaurs walking towards the tank. I stare as the group falls then I hear a beastiel cry coming from the campsite.

A group of five large males were now charging the group of humans around the tank, the one who shot up the group that was peaceful was fiddling with his gun. It was apparently jammed. I could feel Shadow come up behind me and hear Cassie in my mind, {Hunter. I had to request Gilorndir knock out Moonbeam, when he heard the gunfire he um. Lost his composure}. I look at Shadow and see some scrapes and he was favoring his right arm, Ecthelon shakes his head. "I need to desensitize Flower, to make sure she doesn't react that way." Ecthelon thinks a moment then speaks to Shadow, "come on I know the building has a side door near their campsite. Lets go see if anyone is left there," he looks to me. "We need to end this without more loss of life," I nod my head agreeing.

The 'bulls' ran right through the man holding the machine gun and the others jump on top of the tank and open fire on the five men. Thankfully it seems they only had one machine gun, yet it still killed the five men.

I give Zander an apologetic look and jump on top of the wall making myself a target and everyone goes quiet. {Gwen}, I hear Starburst; {what are you doing}? I look down at the tank and project my voice.

"I am guessing you have a problem with me more than those kind folks you just murdered, so please; tell me why you are here with a tank no less." I see the hatch open on the tank and a young man comes out with of all people Calliope. I shake my head and the man starts speaking, "so you are the Hunter everyone is talking about. I have come with my people to take your treasures and to take back her son that you stole from her."

{I am keeping them talking, find out if they came up with a solution to solve this problem. Try to make it embarrassing}. I shake my head, "the ruling council determined she lose her child due to her behavior. Just like Samantha has lost her child due to her behavior," I see Calliope flinch and I focus on Alberich. {Hey have someone check on Samantha, I have a feeling she's up to no good.} Alberich agrees and I feel him leave my mind briefly.

The man smirks at me and responds, " we do not recognize your authority Hunter." I could hear Zander grind his teeth at hearing the sneer in the man's voice, he continues. "We will take what we want from your city, this tank should make short work of that wooden gate of yours. Then we will kill anyone who gets in our way, I don't care what they are. This is a new world and it's every person for themselves." The man then nods his head and I get yanked back by Zander just as a bullet hits the wall where I had been standing.

He grips me tightly and whispers in my ear, "no more of that alright. Or you'll have more than rampaging bull minotaurs on your hands Gwen. Can you imagine what Starburst would do if he saw you get hit by that bullet?" I nod my head, as it most likely wouldn't be pretty. Once Zander releases me I turn to Samuel and Tammy who are standing with one of the craft dwarves. Tammy smiles and waves Jose forward, "Hunter Gwen we most certainly have come up with something to take out the tank and make it embarrassing." The dwarf grins and very carefully holds up an arrow with a reddish tip. "This 'ere arrow Hunter is made from one of those magma stones with an accelerator compound coatin it. If'n this thing hits summant it'll blow up, it's so volitile Hunter." He gets a serious look on his face, "if ye dropped it; thar'd be a crater." I blink at the thought of it, that would be a powerful explosion.

Just before they hand the single arrow to Jose I stop them, "Jose. Where is your son at? It would be more embarrass to use a child to destroy their big toy." Jose grins and goes to retrieve his son, who most likely was at the back of the wall with Timothy.

That's when we heard the tank fire it's main gun and the wall shook, and without thinking a good number of us stick our heads over the wall to look at the gate. Once the dust settles a cheer goes up on the wall as the bandits look dumbfounded. The gate was intact, but it had a crack in it; a tiny one. Samuel yells over the wall, "nice try. It didn't knock the gate down."

We all duck back as the people standing on the tank start shooting up at us, and Jose comes back with his son in tow. I speak to the boy, "now listen. I need you to shoot the arrow the craft man is holding into the tank on the ground, it will explode on impact. The main gun or the interior would be the best place. We want you to do it to embarrass them, now I know how good of a shot you are. They don't all they will know is a child took out their tank, which will be highly amusing." Zander adds in, "also a great deterrent to anyone else; if a child can take down a tank in this city. What could the adults do?" The boy nods and I line out my plan.

The rest of us will stick our heads up so the boy could find a good location, then when he is ready to shoot I will shout a warning. Then Starburst will stand on the highest point to distract the bandits so the boy can take the shot safely. Jose nods in agreement and we start.

At the same time every humanoid on the wall sticks out their heads and starts mocking the bandits, Jose and his son stand and look over the tank. I imagine if Jose doesn't like the child's shot there will be a lesson on quick thinking later. Once the two duck back down so does everyone else. I see the boy carefully take the arrow from the dwarf and nock the arrow and nod to me.

I project my voice again, "I suggest to anyone on or in that tank to move right now unless you wish to die." I wait a moment or two and nod at Starburst who was out of sight of those outside. He leaps up onto the highest point of the wall and flares his wings shouting. "WHO WANTS TO GET ROASTED?" He them spits a ball of fire near the tank, enough to make the people scramble. Right then Jose and his son stand at the same time and the boy pulls his arrow back and lets it fly.

Time slows for that brief time as we all watch the arrow drop to the tank, he aimed well as it went right inside the open hatch. We all duck and Starburst dodges the flying metal as the tank blew apart. Once the metal stops falling we all look over the edge and see the bandits standing about with their mouths agape.

I chuckle and stand up saying, "as a friend of mine says 'unless you wish to catch flies I suggest you close your mouths'. I suggest you leave now before we get angry at you. Think hard before you try attacking us again, that was a single arrow." I think a moment as I see some of the bandits inch away from their leader and Calliope and I add. "We welcome any who wish to join our city provided you follow our laws, there is no reason for someone living here to not have work, a home, or food to eat. Only the lazy have a bad life here or those who commit crimes. I will give you ten minutes to flee and any remaining will be arrested and charged for murder of a intelligent being." I duck back down and see Ecthelon coming back up the stairs, he looks very angry; and Starburst sticks his head between me and him. "Are you alright Arms Master?" Starburst says, and I wonder why he was addressing Ecthelon in a formal way. Ecthelon blinks a moment and waves a hand, "I am well Guardian. No need to be concerned," he turns to me ignoring my curious look and speaks. "The elders and the women with children are alive. All of the young are dead aside from those, 200 individuals dead thanks to those bandits. I had Gilorndir sedate them all aside from the very young. Promisingly Flower is handling the babes with only a simmering bit of anger. Timothy is keeping an eye on her, but I doubt there is anything to worry about with her right now." He looks over the wall, "I will be more concerned about Moonbeam when he wakes up. We need to place their bodies in a separate location so he can perform their funeral rites." I nod my head feeling very angry, if any of those people chose to stay they will be paying a major price for their actions.

I hear commotion from the people on the wall and they start pointing, I look and I get angrier. The people fleeing were riding on bitted and dehorned unicorns, I speak to Starburst. "You need to stop Sir Iron and Alberich from rushing out their right this moment," Starburst nods and flies away." I watch the people fleeing getting angrier by the second especially since I spotted a couple pure white ones.

I hear Leaf's voice, "I'll follow them Hunter." I turn to her, "you only just got here and you need rest." She starts vibrating, my guess from anger; "no. Those people need rescuing, and only I can do this without being spotted. This way you can alleviate the worries of your unicorns Hunter." I sigh and nod my head slowly, "very well Leaf; do not put yourself into harm's way. Fly away if there is danger," she bobs up and down then flies off in the direction the people fled in.

I slowly walk down the stairs and when I get out of the door I see four guards flanking Samantha and her son standing back with a disgusted look on his face. One of the guards speaks to me, "Hunter Gwen! This person was attempting to let in another group of the bandits by the farm gates."

That was it, I walk over to the woman through the guards and punch her full strength in the jaw shattering it instantly. She starts wailing and I shout at her, "THOSE EVIL FRIENDS OF YOURS MASSACRED A GROUP OF PEACEFUL PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY WERE IN THEIR WAY YOU STUPID WOMAN." She keeps wailing and I tell the guards to gag her, I could still hear her whimpering. I stride off towards the farms speaking to Zander who was following me, "Send people out to clean things up and carefully arrange the bodies for Moonbeam. Offer the rest places in the city until they decide what to do. I have to go and cool some heads off," Zander runs off and I keep up towards the farms.

Cherie lands on my shoulder, "you know they need to rescue their people Gwen." I nod my head, "yes; but. They do not need to charge off without thought, Sir Iron is old enough to know better. We need to make sure they are not rushing to their deaths." He is silent as we continue towards the farms, me unsure of what mental state my lead unicorns were in.

Unknown perspective:

He pauses in the market of the simple town that spent the last year building itself up from the shanty town it had been. The new leader of the town had really turned it around with the aid of the two guards that remained from the group of the female Hunter. He snorts, female Hunter; they tended to be too soft hearted. Yet this town did stand and the people that were torturing others were gone, he recalls the bones of the frost drake he saw. Oh he knew instantly what it was and how it died, and who killed it. The idea that a female Hunter was capable of bleeding out a dragon was a sunrise.

He was about to get a bigger sunrise, as two of the traders in the next booth of the town market start talking about the Hunter's city. "Did you hear, that city the Hunter founded has a Dragon living in it?" The second trader speaks, "I heard it's the Hunter's Guardian too." That really surprised the man, he steps out of the shadows a large wolf at his heels. {Isn't that an odd Guardian?} The man just barely nods at the wolf's question in his head, and looks at the road towards the Land Bridge; {let's go find out.}
