Cameron carried the oversized plush teddy bear in his pale, furred arms. His hooves and calf muscles ached abysmally, he was tired - physically and mentally. His young doe lover beside him, seemed possessed of such a childlike wonder at the fair, he pushed on.

He loved her with all his heart. This was a culmination of six months of dating, and he felt the time was drawing close, to get on his knee and ask for her paw in marriage.

She squealed with such love and innocent, almost child-like happiness. It melted his heart to see her so happy and ecstatic. He quietly chuckled to himself as his cloven hooves clicked along the roadway. Beside him, Holly's eyes sparkled, looking everywhere. At the attractions, rides and bright neon. Her tubular ears flicked this way and that, almost as if they'd swivel right off the top of her head.

"It's getting late dear Holly - " Cameron grunted and placed a paw on her shoulder.

'It is?" Holly moaned, as she turned her head. "I've been so lost in all - "

Holly gestured around her, then turned back to Cameron.

"I know my dear, sweet Doe, I'm so pleased you've had such a wonderful time, truly, I was doubting if it would really be _your_thing..."

Kissing him shyly on the muzzle, Holly blushed and grinned at him.

"Thank you for a wonderful date my dear buck, truly!"

"Thank you, for sharing it with me - it made this all the more special."

As they moved through the thinning crowd, the great clock tower struck eleven. Both deer flinched and shuddered, their sensitive hearing having been overwhelmed at the carnival, before Holly gripped Cameron's paw, and she laughed then pointed.

"It's one of those old style Fortune Telling Machines!"

Cameron blinked, then looked at her and shook his head, laughing softly.

"Come now, a rational doe like you, believing in such nonsense? No, I don't believe it!"

Holly snorted good naturedly and rushed over, before she dug a note from her purse and slid it into the machines slot. It glowed, the statue of some Hindu=like man waved its robotic arms and made some weird gestures. Cameron snorted to himself, thinking this was a load of complete foolishness. Holly gripped her paws together, and closed her eyes. Cameron frowned, then saw her lips moving, as she apparently gave voice silently to her wish.

After another thirty seconds, the machine rattled and Holly stepped back, before a printed ticket slid out of another slot, then it went silent. Holly took the ticket and ran back to where Cameron waited.

"What was my dear hearts wish?" Cameron smiled, as he took her paw and started heading towards the gates.

"If I told, it wouldn't come true, would it?" Holly smiled, then blep at him.

Looking down at the printed ticket, she frowned.

Your wish is granted...

After the fair, machines moved in, sweeping up refuse, emptying the trash cans and general cleanup, maintenance was carried on. A Raccoon was grumbling to himself, pushing a wide broom along before he stooped and picked up a twenty dollar note someone had dropped.

"Huh, my lucky night - " He grinned, pocketing it, then watching as a Human and a bull, both dressed in overalls, started manhandling the Fortune Machine.

"Stupid piece of junk - ' Snarled the human. "Hasn't worked in twenty damn years, don't know why it kept getting left here!"

"I hear ya Grant!" Huffed the bull, as they lifted it up and shoved it onto the back of a trailer. "Thing should have been sent to the trash years ago, really, who goes for these sorts of wastes of money anyway? It's, hell, its probably a left over from the '30's or 40's..."

"I know right? Well, its on its way to the garbage dump..."

They climbed back into their truck and drove away, as the Raccoon muttered and kept sweeping...

Weeks come and went, and the first flurries come with them as the temperature plummeted towards the harsh grip of winter. People began to move around, leaving to visit family and friends over Christmas, but the two lovebird deer stayed at home, snuggled up on a faux fur rug before a crackling fireplace.

"Your thoughts dear Cameron?" Holly murmured, as she reached back to caress his chin, it laying on her shoulder.

"Just wondering my love," Cameron smiled, as he trailed a hooflet lightly up her side, feeling Holly squeal and giggle. "What did I ever do, to deserve such a sweet, beautiful spirited creature like yourself?"

"They say opposites attract - " Holly murmured, grabbing his paws and pressing it against her fire warmed belly, holding it gently. "You're always so - standoffish, quiet, withdrawn..."

"I know - I have my failings, I come from a rather strict family, so I guess it rubbed off on me." Cameron muttered quietly, then nuzzled her ear.

"Whereas I was more - a free spirit, wild and untamed - brought up with openness, honesty and trust. Given almost complete free reign, but of course, I too had limitations placed on me."

"You were pretty wild last night love - " Cameron snickered quietly, licking along the edge of an ear.

"Look whose talking!" Holly giggled. "Are you an Anthromorph, or a feral?"

"Hey, I didn't hear you complaining!"

Holly grinned and teasingly flagged her tail against his belly, feeling Cameron gasp and shudder.

"Tease..."

"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not? So, its Christmas Eve, you don't even have a tree, no decorations...really?"

"My family...didn't really go in for all that..."

"Oh, sweety, I'm so sorry! It - it was wonderful, waking up to the smell of the fir tree's pine scent throughout the house, the crackle and pop of cedar wood burning in the fireplace, stockings filled with all kinds of treats. Then there's the Christmas lunch - table laden down with all kinds of food and drinks...the laughter and celebration of life and love with those we hold deer..."

"Oh, har har har - " Cameron snorted delicately across her ear. "I heard that, we hold deer, very funny love."

Holly giggled, then caressed her lovers forearm, that she held against her belly.

"So, what did my stag get me for my Christmas present?"

"Nothing, why...should I have?" Come the deadpan response.

Holly frowned, then reached backwards with her paw, grabbing one of Cameron's ears and pinching it until he squealed and giggled.

"OW, alright!" He yelped. "OF course I got you a Christmas present, happy doe makes for a happy life, and all that!"

"Now I'm wondering - sure, you come from a rather...well, I won't be rude my sweet, but...."

"I know Holly, trust me, I think you'll like your Christmas present..."

"I'm sure I will, now, be a good little doe, and carry me to bed, alright?"

"Really?" Cameron snorted, then pulled her close and nuzzled her ears. "I think we're good, right...here..."

Illuminated by the firelight's glow, the two young deer expressed their love and desire in an intimate and sensual way, free of cares and distractions - just the two of them - together, before the uncaring fireplace, its sweet scents filling the air.
