On the Sidewalk, Bleeding

He should be back by now... Laura was at the jump. Music Booming, Lights flashing, a lot of people having a good time. She had come with her boy friend Andy, who was off getting a pack of cigarettes. It has almost been forty five minutes... I always told him that tobacco wasn't worth buying.

Laura was a sixteen year old tiger. Her jet black hair falling around dark, intelligent, brown eyes and her orange fur. Her height challenged even some of the slightly taller men, but that had never bothered her. She had always had Andy as her best friend and, secretly, her lover.

They had been best friends since they were in kindergarten and Laura had always been there for him; whether he had injuries or was just feeling depressed. He had always given her thoughtful gifts including a Zippo lighter that had the words "Light the way" engraved on it. So when he had decided to join The Royals Laura had been concerned. She had asked him not to do it but being as stubborn as he was, he went through with it without giving it a second thought. Now a dozen rumbles later they were supposed to be having a good time here at the jump.

She started to scan over the crowd. She spotted Billy dancing over by the speakers, which were emitting a pounding bass rhythm. She walked over to him and after grabbing the attention of the otter, started to lead him to the back were they could talk.

"Billy, I'm just letting you know that I'm going to go find Andy. He's been gone way too long for just getting some smokes."

Billy looked at her quizzically but after a minute replied, "okay, but try to hurry up. The streets are dangerous at this time of night."

"Kay." And with that she turned and headed for the doors leading to the street.

She took her time going down the stairs, still being able to hear the beat of the unknown song through the door. She hit the ground floor and briefly peeked out of the doors' window. She sighed as she noted that it was raining outside and pulled the hood of her jacket up and over her head. She opened the door slowly and walked outside.

She went to the front of the building and checked the candy store. It's closed... what now? She looked down the street both ways and crossed the road. Well... Alfredo's is still open. And if you cut through the alley it's only about a block.

She started to walk to her left and after just a few steps she stood in front of the opening of the alley. On the other end of the block she could see the lights of Alfredo's and Cars driving pass. It's really dark in the middle. Maybe I should go around... no. I need to hurry up. She started down the alley at a hurried pace, glancing over her shoulder occasionally to make sure no one was following her.

As she got deeper into the alley her eyes adjusted to the dark and she could make out an abnormal lump lying in the middle of the road. She started to angle at the wall intending to walk around it. She was hugging the buildings when she saw a purple jacket with the word "Royals" embossed on it. No... She started to draw closer and closer a little at a time. She took out the lighter that Andy had given her and lighted it quickly.

The lump was Andy. The lion was laying on his back completely soaked in diluted blood. The puddle around him had taken on a reddish hue and his hand was half covering an open wound that stretched from one side of his stomach to the other. His eyes were closed and his blond fur was matted and died red. It would have looked good if it wasn't his own blood. His jacket was also covered in blood but it was lying two feet away.

OH MY GOD... She nearly dropped the lighter as she got closer and knelt down beside him. She grabbed his hand and started feeling for his pulse. Andy! Andy! Wake up, tell me your okay! She wasn't able to find a pulse andHe didn't start talking.

She got up and started to run to the other end of the alley. Hang on Andy... Hang on. She slipped out onto the street and was immediately yelling for help. It wasn't busy but there were a few people walking down and up it. She started looking down and up the street and was rewarded by the sight of a police officer.

She sprinted to the bear. "Officer," she yelled. "Come quick, there's someone hurt in the alleyway. Hurry up!" She sprinted back to the ally before giving the Officer a chance to reply. She didn't even look behind him to check that he was following until she had reached Andy. By the time that he did reach her he was putting away a radio that he was speaking to.

"Paramedics are on the way miss," he said, "Now who's hurt?"

Laura lit her lighter one more time to reveal Andy. The officer got slowly closer observing the details until he was right over Andy. He crouched beside him and felt his wrist. After a moment he got up and looked back at Laura. "He's dead."

Hearing this was too much for Laura as she started to cry. Oblivious to the rain, the officer, everything. She crouched down beside him and held his hand she tried to feel for any warmth that had been washed away with the rain. Why... why did you have to be part of the royals? Why did you have to go and get some smokes? She leaned over a little more and tightened her grip as she started to cry even harder.

The officer looked at the Jacket and took out a note pad. "A Royal, hey?"

Laura looked up at him, still crying, "His name is Andy."

The officer looked back at the Note pad and wrote something down. "A Royal."
