This is a thursday prompt archive, inspired from when I went to MFF in 2012, I saw a lady that was crying and being comforted by some man about something and saying some things I couldn't make most of it out in particular. This is the story I came up with thinking about what it could possibly be.

Writer's Live Twice

Distance

She buried her snout into his fuzzy chest. She felt her tears getting his chest fur wet.

"I just don't want to go. I don't want to leave you again. I want to stay with you," her speech broke between each sob.

"I know. I know, it's okay," He said looking over her head into the distance toward the other convention goers milling about. He felt his own eyes strain.

They messaged most of the time online. She called him up every chance she got and he felt he contacted her more. Through Roleplaying and through facebook chats. They met on the furry dating websites. No humans aloud, at least, unless that included the rarities.

She was a zebra and he was a tiger. They had their friends comment how their stripes blended, made them look like a painted wall when they stood in silhouette against it. But, between his work and hers they couldn't make ends meet and get together.

Many other of his fur friends had roomed together. They just went. Not unlike those furs that appeared on pawn shops selling silver to come to conventions.

Most furry kind, already had animousity enough. He kept the fact hush with his co-worker humans that he came to these conventions. He was the only furry in his vicinity. He knew others and gathered with others, from wolves, foxes, sheep and bunnies.

It wasn't too difficult for him, he made his way. He worked and the internet was his break to keep up with his friends. The conventions when he could afford it. It didn't get to him.

She went to college. She got into being a furry during high school when she would draw animals. There was only another fur in her high school. A Bison. She didn't talk much with her, despite they were anything other than a human. It wasn't typical for furs to stick together, not with so little of them. This was until her college years, and oh did the fur pride swell. She started using her own food money for the conventions. She attached with her furreinds and crashed with those in her college towns. The gray muzzles were inspiring to talk to, especially if they'd been involved in it since before it was a thing. But it never hit entirely home. It was an identification, more than anything. It had a place in her heart but never came near the penetrated layers.

They'd shared this in a drawn out phone conversation. How much they were there for each other. That, it didn't matter hardly what they were, bison, deer, cat, kitten, dog, gerbil, or whatever. If she was a fish and needed water, they talked about setting up a pool in their apartment.

When she met him, up until the first year it was alright. The distance was a thrill. They mutually loved to see other parts of the country. They would attend conventions and meet furs from all across the country. The second year came by and they found themselves wanting to set aside moments in the conventions where they had some alone time. Then, one convention they spent walking along the riverfront rather than attending anything there.

She looked into her eyes as she sniffled. He was accutely aware of being watched but his eyes didn't waver. She looked up to him and he brushed the tears out of her zebra eyes and then both went back to his hotel room, pulling each other into a deep muzzle lick.

Then they stopped sitting on the edges of the beds they shared with other convention goers.

"We should move into together. I don't care what it takes," He told her at length.

She stood up and came to him and threw her hooves around him drawing him in and he returned the embrace as feverently.

"Don't let those fur couples bring you down, cutey stripes," she mumbled and nibbled at his tiger ear.
