Chronicles of Lunaria

Chapter 1 - The Only Hope

Wyth smiled to himself and silently expanded the orb in size. At the same time he sent his thoughts and feelings towards Elizabeth. He felt her shock before she began to speak in his head.

'Are you sure Wyth, this cub needs a lot of love and care, we only just took him in this morning.'

Wyth sent his agreement over to Elizabeth and she nodded silently heading out of the room. She knew Wyth would be able to keep the kids busy well she got the papers together. If Wyth wanted to adopt Aaron she didn't think anyone would do anything to stop him. Who knew, maybe this would help heal them both. Elizabeth sat down at her desk a paper quickly pulled out in front of her.

Legal Adoption Sheet

Two hours later Wyth stood to his feet tired. All the kids had finally fallen asleep and were resting peacefully. Wyth cracked his back and gazed around the room. Toys were strewn over the floor, unfinished board games sat half played. Snack trays sat on the tables with half eaten apples on them. It had been a hectic two hours like it always was when he came to entertain.

He had spent the first hour playing games with everyone. Than a half hour of him using the elements to entertain the kids. Wind to let them fly through the air. Water to surf them around the room and fire to dry them of in blazing infernos. Than for the last half hours he had told stories like he always did. Everyone had fallen asleep in the middle of his second book. Wyth yawned tiredly and rubbed his eyes. It was getting late and he needed to be heading back to the farm soon.

Heading out of the room Wyth stopped in shock. Blinking his gaze locked onto Aaron who he had almost missed amongst the carnage of the room. Aaron was sitting in a chair at one of the tables drawing in a coloring book. Wyth wondering why Aaron wasn't asleep like everyone else walked silently over to him. Placing his hand on Aaron's shoulder he frowned mentally when the young cub flinched before looking up at him.

"Any reason you aren't sleeping little buddy?" questioned Wyth

"I...I'm not important enough to sleep well others work," whispered Aaron in monotone.

Wyth's eyes narrowed and Aaron flinched frightened out from under his hand. Wyth immediately relaxed his eyes and swore to himself. Aaron had obviously been abused and was adept at reading body language. Aaron must have assumed his answer displeased him and he was upset at him.

Wyth swore to himself that he would try and hold back his anger at Wyth's previous caretakers well he was around him. Placing his hands gently on Aaron's shoulders he looked him dead in the eyes. Aaron refused to look at him and Wyth wished that he had Elizabeth's calming powers.

"Aaron, I'm not angry at you," said Wyth in a calming tone.

Suddenly the door to the room burst open and Elizabeth rushed in. She was breathing heavily and had a horrified look on her face. Wyth stood to his feet and looked at her with worry.

"What's wrong Elizabeth?" questioned Wyth

"Bandits are attacking the village, and they have monsters with them," answered Elizabeth horrified.

Wyth swore harshly and frowned. This village wasn't like some of the bigger ones. It didn't have many people and because of that not many fighters. No one in this entire village except him could even use a weapon and only one or two of them could use magic useful in battle.

The village hadn't been attacked by such a large force in years. The last time it had happened soldiers from one of the towns had been in the village. Wyth sighed and nodded at Elizabeth. He knew what she wanted him to do even if he didn't want to do it.

"Stay here and protect the kids," said Wyth before spinning and heading out of the room.

"How can one human fight them all," whispered Aaron his voice having actual worry in it.

"He's our only hope, without him...there will be no victory," said Elizabeth sadly.

Aaron blinked in confusion. Just what was this human that he would make such a difference in battle all by himself. Sure he had seen the human bend more elements than he had ever seen before. But he was still only one man. He had been taught since a young age that his life was worthless. He was a tool for sex and made to please others. Yet all the people in this place treated him with kindness.

Aaron couldn't help but hope that it was true. That they weren't just hiding their true nature from him. His hope had been crushed many times and he didn't have much left in him. This human was different than anyone he had met. No one looked at him with such kindness. What if this human died and he never met another like him again.

Aaron was on his small furry feet as he rushed out of the room before anyone could stop him. Vaguely he heard screaming behind him but he paid it no mind as he rushed outside. He wasn't going to let one of the only humans who spoke to him with kindness die.

Not when he could die instead...

Wyth walked out towards the middle of the village. Humans and Furs ran past him and locked themselves in there houses. As he approached the center of the village he spotted Yen and Ken the only two fighters in this village. Neither of them could use a weapon but their magic was devastating. Yen controlled powerful earth manipulation and Ken could summon and throw magical spears of energy.

Marching towards Yen and Ken was a massive mob of Bandits. Surrounding them were monsters of every size and strength, each more dangerous than the last. Yen and Ken were trembling slightly but both of them appeared ready to fight. Wyth sighed and stepped past them so he was standing in front of them both. He heard them both gasped but didn't pay any attention as he slowly drew his sword.

Spinning it through the air he turned himself slightly and pointed his blade tip-down towards the ground in front of him. Magical energies gathered around him and an aura of wind and lightning exploded outwards around him. His eyes glowed brightly as white and yellow mixed together as power rippled around him. Yen and Ken stepped back in shock at the display of power before them.

Everyone in the village knew that Wyth was powerful. But none of them had ever seen him use his power for anything dangerous before. Wyth was a peaceful soul and hated to fight and harm others. Even protecting the village as he was going to be would be a struggle for him. His pacifist nature making this more difficult for him than anyone could imagine.

"Yen, Ken...I want you both to go protect the rest of the village, none of these will get past me," said Wyth lightning rippling around his body.

Yen and Ken didn't bother to argue as they turned around and headed back deeper into the village. The monsters and bandits charged forward and Wyth sighed as his blade and power ripped forward. Lightning struck through the air frying enemies to a crisp. Wind slashed out sharper than any blade could possibly be. His blade flashed through the air as he cut through bandit after bandit, monster after monster.

Blood flew through the air as Wyth attacked again and again. Minutes later Wyth stopped breathing heavily the ground around him littered with dead bodies. His blade dripped with blood and latent lightning rippled across the charged ground. Wyth looked up and around his hair stained red and hanging over his face. Blood not his own covered his entire body and he tried to ignore it.

Wyth hadn't been hurt the entire time. The mob of bandits and simple monsters standing no chance against him. Turning around Wyth sheathed his sword and started to walk to where Wraith was. Now he really needed to get home and have a shower. He didn't want to be covered in this blood any longer than possible. Stopping Wyth unleashed his power over fire before he continued to walk. The bodies behind him burst into flames and burned to ash before floating away on the wind.

Suddenly a loud scream ripped through the air. Wyth spun around his hand going to his blade before he stopped in cold shock. Standing directly in front of him was a bandit with black eyes. Dark energy circled around him, but none of that worried him. What worried him was the young fox cub floating in the air beside him dark energy holding a blade at his neck.

"Let Aaron go," growled Wyth as he silently released the chains on his true power.

"Move and I'll kill the boy," snarled the Bandit harshly.

"I'm afraid you won't have time to do anything," whispered Wyth sadly closing his eyes and looking down at the ground.

Wyth looked up and the bandit took a step back in shock. Wyth's eyes were glowing pure silver and were narrowed in fury. A brilliant silver aura burst outwards all the blood on Wyth's body disintegrating instantly. Before the bandit could even move Wyth was in front of him his fist plowing into the bandit's face. The bandit flew backwards through the air blood flowing from his mouth. Wyth than appeared over top of the bandit and grabbed his face stopping him instantly and plowing him into the ground.

The ground cracked and exploded in a shower of dirt. The bandit's body dropped to the ground lifeless as the black energy around Aaron disappeared. Wyth reappeared and caught Aaron out of the air. Aaron looked up into Wyth's silver eyes and felt incredible fear and awe. This human had the power to wipe this village from the face of Lunaria and looked at him with kindness. Didn't power make people corrupt, so why was this human so nice.

"Are you okay Aaron?" questioned Wyth

"Yes, but why did you bother to save me?" questioned Aaron silently emotion slowly filtering into his voice.

"Because you are important just like any cub," answered Wyth.

Aaron looked confused and Wyth just shook his head sadly. Rubbing Aaron behind the ears he turned and vanished in a blur of speed. Wyth reappeared in front of the entrance to the orphanage. Aaron blinked in shock at the speed. The door opened and Wyth walked in, one of the caretakers immediately ran forward to take Aaron. Wyth waved them aside and walked up the stairs to Elizabeth's office.

Aaron's eyes widened as he wondered what was going on. The door opened and Wyth walked in Aaron still held tightly in his arms. Wyth sat down in a chair adjusting Aaron so he was comfortable in his lap. Elizabeth immediately knew why he was here and pushed a paper across the desk. Wyth immediately sighed it with a flourish before standing and nodding at Elizabeth. Elizabeth stood and walked out of the room leading Wyth to Aaron's room.

Aaron was still confused about what was going on. It wasn't until they arrived at his room and started packing his stuff that he figured it out. He was being adopted by this hum...by Wyth on his first day at the orphanage. A few seconds later the small suitcase he had arrived with was packed and they were ready to go.

"Are...are you adopting me?" questioned Aaron in a whisper.

"Yes, you're going to live with me from now on, as my son and me your dad if you want to call me that," answered Wyth happily.

"D..dad...My last...are..are you," stuttered Aaron only to be interrupted by Wyth.

"I will never treat you like that, you are a precious cub and I will treat you like anything precious should be," said Wyth with conviction.

Aaron nodded his feelings still mixed. If he was being adopted did that mean he really was precious. Or was this all a ploy and he would be expected to be a sex slave like before. Aaron's emotions were all over the place and he didn't know what to do. Before he could think of anything else though he felt himself pulled tightly into Wyth's arms.

It took him a few seconds to figure out what was going on. Wyth was hugging him...hugging him of all people. A small barely visible smile stretched out on Aaron's face.

Maybe his life wouldn't stay so bad after all...
