Chronicles of Lunaria

Prologue - Adoption

Lunaria, that was what we had named the planet we were forced to flee to. After thousands of years we had finally destroyed Earth with our needless wasting and technology. In a desperate attempt for the human race to survive two ships had been sent to space. Each containing a thousand people on board, children, adults even some animals were sent. Every person and animal was giving a special shoot that would make them fall asleep for the trip.

The chambers they would in would cease aging. Until the ships found a suitable planet everyone would remain asleep. Thousands of years later, millions of light-years away from Earth a planet was found. It was almost exactly the same as Earth had been before we started destroying it. Both ships landed on the planet and everyone began to awakening. Only something had gone wrong, the formula had changed something.

The survivors of Earth began to change forever. Their DNA had been altered somehow causing mutations. Some human's began to sprout fur, grow tails, gain wings. The changes were numerous and lasted for weeks. Until half of the surviving humans from Earth were human no longer. Cats, dogs, foxes, dragons, and many other types of furries had emerged. But that wasn't even half the problem.

Humans and Furries alike began to develop strange powers. Magic became a thing of everyday reality as did monsters. Some animals had mutated into dangerous beasts that broke from the ship and killed as they fled.

Eventually, though years passed everything became normal to the survivors. Earth was gone from their memories and only Lunaria remained. Monster Hunting became an everyday job and magic was taught along with math and science in school.

Humans and Furries lived together in harmony. Working together to bring food to their villages and families. Machines were not thought about and even frowned upon. They would not waste this planet like they had their last.

Generations passed...

Wyth Maboroshi breathed heavily and brushed the sweat from his forehead. It had been a long day already and it was only noon. He had milked and fed the cows, fed the chickens, fed the horse and cleaned their pens and the barn. He had gathered some more hay from the field and than started harvesting. The carrots were the only thing ready at the moment and he had spent the last hour picking them out of the ground.

Eighty thick, long, lushes carrots sat dirty in the wooden wheelbarrow he pulled behind him. Sighing Wyth got back to work as he grabbed the handles of the wheelbarrow and pulled it out of the field. Heading over to the water pump he dumped the carrots into the trench and began to pump water. Thick curtains of cold water poured down over the carrots and washed them quickly of the dirt that covered them.

Wyth looked up at the sun as he continued pumping water. He needed to be in town to deliver these carrots in two hours. It took an hour to get their by horse driven cart so he needed to get going soon. Wyth Maboroshi was a twenty-one year old human male. He had lived on Phantom Farm his whole life and taken it over when his father passed away. He worked hard to earn his living and loved every single minute of it.

The carrots washed Wyth breathed deeply before catching hold of the wind. The invisible wind became visible as it lifted the carrots into the air. Satisfied Wyth turned and headed towards the house, the carrots floating in the air behind him. Wyth was a master of the elements and had been since he was a child. On Lunaria it was common for people to develop multiple different powers. But as far as he knew Wyth was the only elemental, meaning he could control every element.

He had learned long ago how to wield his powers. He didn't use them for much and when he did it was normally only to keep in practice. Monsters had stopped attacking his farm long ago. He had a reputation among the more intelligent monsters. He may be a kind man but if anyone or anything threatened anything important to him...it died.

Wyth pushed open the front door and allowed the wind to lower the carrots onto the table before letting his command of it fade away. Figuring he had time for a shower Wyth headed upstairs to the shower. There were two bathrooms in the house but the downstairs had a bath and the upstairs a shower. Most houses didn't have running water like his did. But he had worked hard to set pipes that could carry water through his house.

Than with a little elemental power and runic work hot water flowed as well. Not many people could use or make runes and he was one of the few. He only knew very basic ones but that still impressed many people. Stripping off his dirty work clothing Wyth dropped them in the hamper and stepped into the shower. A quick turn of the handles and cold and hot water mixed before flowing from the shower-head.

Letting the warm water wash over him Wyth sighed happily. His hands ran through his long sky blue hair as he rubbed out the knots that had formed when working. His hair had always been something to commit on for most people. Sky blue hair was rare among furries and unheard of among humans. He was the only one and he didn't really mind. He figured his hair was this color for the same reason his eyes were different.

His eyes were normally a deep sea green color that soothed those that looked into them. But when he channeled any element his eyes would shift color. Red when he channeled fire, blue when he channeled water, green when he wielded earth, white when he commanded air, yellow when he called on lightning and so on so forth. He figured his hair was this color because of water and air. The first two elements he had called on and mastered.

Cleaning himself Wyth noticed how his head kept hitting the shower-head. He was a decent 5'11" but it was obvious he would need to fix the shower. Ten minutes later Wyth climbed out of the shower and got dressed in normal non-farm clothing. White t-shirt, leather belt, black jeans and the black combat boots that had used to belong to his father. His outfit complete Wyth grabbed his sword of it's hock and threaded it's string through his belt.

His sword was a work of art and he had crafted it himself. It was made of a special metal known as Arium and was stronger and more deadly than any other. His blade could cut through anything and never needed to be sharpened. His blade was like a basic longsword except for the fact the blade was curved. He had based it off a picture from before this planet. From what he believed was called a 'Video Game'. His sword was an almost exact replica of that used by the Prince of Persia in his quest with Elika against the dark god Aruhman. He had thought it looked cool and gone with that. The sheath was a basic black sheath that hung from his leather belt by a string.

Wandering down the stairs he walked over to the table. Concentrating he called forth nature and used it to create a beautiful vine basic for the carrots. Putting them in it he headed outside. Closing the door behind him he activated the rune barrier and put the basket down on the porch. He headed over to the barn and quickly got Wraith out of his enclosure. Wraith was his horse a beautiful black stallion who could run like the wind itself.

Leading Wraith over to the cart parked outside his house he hooked him up. Turning he caught the vine basket as it floated into his hands. Putting it in the cart with everything else he had gathered over the last few days, minus what he kept for himself, he locked the cart and jumped on. The reins in his hands he flicked them gently and Wraith immediately started off. Wraith had been through the journey many times and knew just where they were going.

Maybe he would have enough time after he was done to visit the orphanage before he left back for the farm...

Wyth headed out of the general store with a heavy bag of coins in his pocket. Dropping the bag into a special compartment of the cart he patted Wraith gently. Rubbing Wraith's neck he told Wraith he was going to be a while. Wraith immediately understood and slowly began to wander away. He had done this many times in his years and Wraith knew exactly where to go and what to do. Just before the exit of the village was a small lot for him to rest in. He would stay there until Wyth came and got him.

Wyth turned and headed down the main street. Passing through the mark and into the residential area. Stopping before a large brown house he turned and headed down a side path. At the end of a path a large building came into view. It was almost double the size of most of the houses in the village. It had a large field surrounded by a thick wooden fence. This was the Terria Village Orphanage.

Pushing open the gate he wandered across the field. He chuckled slightly at the sight of balls and toys littered all over the grassy ground. It was obvious playtime had just ended and one of the caretakers hadn't had time to clean up. With a quick wave of his hand all the toys lifted into the air and floated to their boxes outside the house. He had done this many times before and knew where everything went.

Walking to the door he stopped on the porch and raised his fist.

Knock...Knock...Knock

A few seconds later the door swung open. Wyth was immediately greeted by the smiling face of Sara. Sara was a sixteen-year-old Cat Fur who had been working and living at the orphanage all her life. She had bright yellow fur and piercing slit amber eyes. Her mother, Elizabeth, was the Headmistress of the orphanage making it not that odd at all.

"Good afternoon Sara, found that good boyfriend yet?" questioned Wyth raising an eyebrow.

Sara's yellow cheeks turned red as she blushed lightly as she said, "Not yet Mr. Maboroshi."

Wyth chuckled as she stepped to the side to let him in, "How many times do I have to tell you Sara, you can call me Wyth," he said with a smile.

Sara nodded and motioned down the hall to the inside playroom. Wyth thanked her and headed down the hall as Sara returned to whatever she was doing. Pushing open the door Wyth walking into the room and was immediately mobbed. Four kids came flying towards him two for each arm, one of them literally flapping her bat wings. Two tackled each of his legs and one jumped on his chest as he collapsed to the ground laughing.

Wyth laughed and struggled trying to get out of everyone's grasp. But the kids chuckled and held him tightly against the ground. Wyth looked up at the boy sitting on his chest. They did this every time he came and he never managed to dodge.

"So you've got me Jacen, what are you going to do now?" questioned Wyth to the dark blue furred wolf cub named Jacen that was sitting on him.

"Tickle HIM!" shouted Jacen as he dove in his paws flickering over Wyth's chest.

All of the kids immediately started to tickle him and Wyth laughed loudly as he continued to halfheartedly struggle. Once he had decided they had tickled him enough he closed his eyes. All of them knew what was coming and jumped to their feet. But it was too late as Wyth's eyes snapped open glowing white. All the kids found themselves lifted into the air invisible hands tickling them.

Wyth looked at each of the kids as the wind tickled them. His expert gaze looking over them all to make sure they were doing okay. Sure he knew Elizabeth would never let anything happen to them, but once could never be to safe. Of the nine kids he knew them all. Jacen the blue furred wold cub was the leader. He was nine-years-old and did his best to protect everyone else. Next were the twins Jessy and Johnny, they were both eight-years-old and human.

They were followed by Nel a seven and a half-year-old bat furry. Who was followed by Timmy a seven-year-old dog fur. Next there were Eric and Hayden both of them dragons who were six-years old. They acted as brothers even though they weren't by blood. Next was Victor he was a five-year-old human who had a bladder problem. He needed to wear diapers but no one at the orphanage teased him for it.

Last but not least was Kevin, he was a four-year-old half human, half lizard. He didn't speak much but when he did he spoke far to technical for anyone to understand him. Wyth knew them all and treated them all the same he would any kid. Figuring the kids had been 'tortured' enough he let the wind gently lower than and disappear.

"So how is everyone today?" questioned Wyth

"Good!" chorused the kids together.

Wyth nodded and looked up at Elizabeth as she walked towards him. She stopped in front of him and they hugged each other gently. Elizabeth stepped back and smiled at him.

"Wyth it is good to see you, how have you been?" she questioned motherly.

"Pretty good, just brought a shipment of supplies in," answered Wyth pleasantly.

"Excellent, but I have someone for you to meet Wyth," said Elizabeth turning around and heading to the corner of the room.

Wyth watched as she walked very slowly to the corner of the room. It took him a few seconds to spot a young fox-cub kneeling in the corner with his legs against his chest. As she approached the boy looked frightened before his face suddenly blanked and he looked up at her. Wyth felt the telltale sign of Elizabeth's mental powers filling the room. She was projecting calming emotions to the fox cub in front of her.

'He was abused,' echoed Elizabeth's voice in his head.

Wyth was so used to Elizabeth's mental powers he didn't even blink. He just sent a shock acknowledgment over the link she had just connected with him. He himself had no mental powers but knew she would easily be able to read his thoughts and emotions on what she said.

'Apparently his father was killed and he was taken in by a slaver, they used him as a sex slave, he thinks that's all he is good for,' said Elizabeth's voice within his mind.

Wyth felt a faint flow of anger flow through him and he growled in his mind. What type of monster would do that to a child. He watched as Elizabeth lead the young cub over towards him. The cub couldn't be more than seven-years-old. He stood at maybe 4' and had bright blue eyes that were dulled with inner pain. Light orange fur covers most of his body the exceptions being his chest and tip of his tail and ears. Both of those were a light white that matched his short spiky headfur.

Wyth felt his anger flair again as he observed the boy. For heaven's sake the boy's tail wasn't even waving. A cub subconsciously waved their tail when they felt the least bit of happiness. For this cub's tail to not be waving at all was a very bad thing. Elizabeth stopped with the boy beside her right in front of him. Wyth bent slowly down and looked into the boy's eyes. The boy's gaze immediately dropped to the ground.

"It's nice to meet you, I'm Wyth, can you tell me your name cub?" questioned Wyth

"Aaron sir," answered the boy his voice almost completely monotone.

"Would you like to see a magic trick Aaron?" questioned Wyth

"I wouldn't want to needlessly inconvenience you sir," answered Aaron in monotone.

"It's no inconvenience at all," said Wyth bringing his hands in front of him.

He quickly put his hands in position. His right hand palm down directly over top of his left hand that was facing palm up. The windows burst open as grass flew into the room from all directions. The grass wrapped and weaved itself into a ball hovering in between the palms of his hands.

Next heat flared and a shell of fire wrapped around the ball of grass without burning it. Slowly four circles of wind two diagonally, one up and down and one left and right circled the shell of fire. Than lightning began to crackle in the air around the orb of elements. Finally a thin sphere of see-through water surrounded it all.

Many of the kids and the caretakers including Elizabeth were staring in awe. They had never seen Wyth wield so many different elements at the same time before. Sure he showed them simple things all the time but never anything like this. Aaron was so in awe by the display that he found himself staring in shock with his mouth open. He didn't even think or act as he stared at the display in silent awe.

Wyth smiled to himself and silently expanded the orb in size. At the same time he sent his thoughts and feelings towards Elizabeth. He felt her shock before she began to speak in his head.

'Are you sure Wyth, this cub needs a lot of love and care, we only just took him in this morning.'

Wyth sent his agreement over to Elizabeth and she nodded silently heading out of the room. She knew Wyth would be able to keep the kids busy well she got the papers together. If Wyth wanted to adopt Aaron she didn't think anyone would do anything to stop him. Who knew, maybe this would help heal them both. Elizabeth sat down at her desk a paper quickly pulled out in front of her.
