Daniel stopped short on the trail, straining his ears as he heard the soft tinkling of what could only be music. It wasn't loud or obnoxious music, but it was music none the less, even so it did not belong deep in the forest.

The mewthree clenched his teeth in annoyance and rubbed the side of his head. The whole point of his hike was to get away from any civilization, but it didn't seem like there was any way to avoid it, not even in the middle of a national forest. He had been hearing the music off and on since twilight and had been trying to avoid it, but no matter what he did it always seemed to be close by, like it was just over the hill.

Closing his eyes he tried to find the source of the music so he could avoid it. Instead he heard the sound of something large moving down the trail.

Without a sound Daniel stepped back into the trees, his black clothing and scales merging into the shadows and hiding him from anyone who wasn't looking directly at him. A moment later a dozen does ran down the trail at break-neck speed, like they were running away from something. He could feel their panic and fear echoing through his mind.

"What's going on?" he said under his breath, looking back the way the deer had come, trying to see what was chasing then and hoping to stay out of its way. After a few moments he realized he couldn't hear anything on the trail; not a sound, not an animal, not even the wind. Nothing, even the music had come to a stop. The forest around him was quiet and empty. It sent a chill down his back to the tip of his thick tail. He had no idea what was going on but it wasn't right. It was more than just some music.

Daniel turned to start down the trail, but came up short by a flash of light beyond the trees. It wasn't very bright, but it was enough to cast shadows over him, shadows that shouldn't have been there. At the same time it made his head start to buzz in an odd way. Gulping he took a few steps back, only stopping when he ran into a tree.

The shadows that shouldn't have been there flared into light, creating a collection of bright colors in all the shades of the rainbow. The lights started to twist and move in the air in front of him, their glow shining off of his exposed scales. One of the glimmering motes moved forward to hover at the tip of his nose, the bright purple light resolving into the shape of a small... vixen?

Leaning in, he crossed his eyes too look at the creature in the light. It was a small vixen! She was nude and hanging on gossamer wings. She seemed to giggle at him, her laugh sounding like bells.

"You're silly," she said, her soft voicing ringing like music in his ears. It was the same music he had been hearing all evening. He pulled back from it only to press up against the thick tree.

"Who... what are you?"

The vixen cocked her head to the side. "I'm a fairy, and you're trespassing."

"I didn't mean to," the mewthree said, his thick tail flicking in agitation and drumming against the tree. He had heard stories about odd things in the forest, but nothing about fairies.

She giggled again and started to flit around him, sparkles of light drifting from her wings. The other fairies joined in with her to circle around him. Soon a rainbow was raining down, little sparks bouncing off his scales and clinging to his clothing.

The vixen fairy moved up to sit on the tip of his snout. "We know what to do with you!" she declared.

Daniel shivered again, the fuzz in his head getting thicker. "Do with me?"

"We found you, that means we get to keep you!" she said. The other fairies started to chant "Keep you" over and over as they spun around him, the sound of their voices mingling into a cacophony.

Panic started to grow deep inside of his chest as he tried to push the fairies away, but they just danced around his hands. He finally just leapt away from the tree and rushed through them. The fairies parted, leaving a wall of glitter behind. He crashed through it, stumbled, and tumbled down onto the trail, landing in a heap on the ground.

Daniel twisted around trying to get his feet under him, and he gasped out loud when he did. His clothing was glowing brightly with the fairy lights... no, not glowing, burning. His clothing was burning off without any flames or smoke, just smoldering light. Letting out a cry he smacked his hands on the embers, trying to put them out, but the fire just kept burning! In another few moments he was bare other than his scales.

A moment later the vixen was back on his nose. "That's better!"

He launched himself to his feet and reached out with his powers, trying to teleport away from the fairies, but the energy wasn't there. He reached out with his mind to try to find it, but all he could find was a wall. He was trapped there.

Struggling up to his feet he shoved with his mind, trying to push the fairies away. They moved like they had been caught in the wind, but quickly reestablished themselves around him. Their chanting was growing louder as they started to circle, leaving streaks of light behind.

With a growl the mewthree rushed through them again. The wall of light felt almost solid as he pushed through it, like he was swimming for a few moments. When he broke through he found the world itself was different. The trail was gone, as were the tall trees. Instead he was on the edge of a small lake, the water flat and shining like ice. High above him he could see the moon hanging large and full in the sky. It cast a glow over everything and everyone.

Stopping at the water's edge he turned around to see that the fairies weren't chasing him. Instead they were hovering together and giggling all in time. He debated trying to dive into the water, to swim for safety, but Daniel suspected that there was no where he could run. Even so, he wasn't about to just stand there and wait for them to rush him again.

He turned his back to the fairies and readied himself to dive into the water, but halfway through the turn he felt his legs locking up. With another yell he tumbled forward and crashed down, his hands sinking into the muddy shore.

Daniel grunted and tried to move, trying to break free from the power holding him, but nothing worked. He was trapped on his hands and knees and locked firmly in place.

The vixen flew around to hover over his face. "Perfect!" she giggled and touched the tip of his nose.

A chill of power rushed through his body, and he felt everything tense up. Glowing purple lines started to radiating out from where she had touched him, running in jagged streaks across his face and down out of his vision. The glow was so bright he could see in it in the water, outlining his form as they covered his whole body, the light growing against the black of his scales. The pressure behind his eyes was growing even stronger; his mind was starting to feel like it was covered in bubble wrap.

He shivered again; or tried to, a new feeling starting was starting to wrap around his body. His legs were feeling cold as they became even stiffer then they were before. In the water he could see the skin below his knees growing brighter, but at the same time losing the familiar refraction of his scales; instead everything looked bright and smooth.

"What are you doing to me?" he tried to ask, but no words came out. As a last ditch effort he forced the thought through his muddled mind and into the vixen's head, hoping the fairy would be able to hear it.

She giggled. "Making you belong!" she said in reply.

Daniel struggled and tired to break away as the coldness ran up his body and slid over his legs. In moments his entire lower body was uniformly cold, solid, and hard, his tail quickly following suit. The purple lines were glowing even brighter on his lower body, everything looking cold and flat.

Like stone...

The mewthree cried out and tried everything he could; using all of his power to attempt to break free. He reached out with his mind and slammed at the fairy, trying to push her away, but she just flew back in front of him, laughing all the time. His changed legs felt strong, firm and cold; yet still somehow a part of his flesh.

With a long chill the stone rose up over his chest, enclosing around him like a crushing weight. In moments his chest was changing, turning into the same black and purple stone of his legs. It ran down his arms, encasing the flesh, making it stone through and through. He could see the lights of the fairies as they came near him, some of them starting to settle on the stone portion of his back, each one of them sending a new chill through his frozen body.

He kept struggling as he felt the cold prickling at his neck. Desperate, he used every ounce of his power, focusing all of it into a single message, a single overwhelming psychic order. As the stone started to creep up over his muzzle he slammed it into the vixen.

The fairy fluttered back and shook in place for a few moments. As she shook the stone stopped, leaving just his eyes and the top of his head as flesh. She quivered in place for a few seconds, and then let out a long sigh. "Oh, that was clever, but you're still ours!" she cried out, then smacked him on the top of his partly stone nose, sending a strong jolt of magic through his body.

With a rush the changes wrapped around his head. His eyes went wide as the last his flesh turned into the same black marble as the rest of his body. It chilled him through and through as more of the fairies landed on his back. The vixen fairy smiled and came to rest on top of his stone nose, patting him between his eyes. "Pretty perch," she said.

He shivered and tried to protest, trying to reach out with his powers, but there wasn't anything he could do. All that was left of the mewthree was a black marble statue with purple highlights, perched on hands and knees at the edge of the lake. As the sun rose over him he saw that he was just one of many statues around the water's edge, just another trespasser in the fairy's world.
