Chapter 8

Cinder awoke lying in a soft bed, with Elias standing over her. "I never thought you would awaken, Cinder." He said, smiling. Celina walked up beside him, laughing.

"You're lucky you had that amulet on, or that lightning would have fried you worse! Luckily, all your wounds were able to be healed by my magic." She said, happily. "You killed the demon. Good job."

"Wait, so you're taking care of me?" Cinder said, looking at Elias confused.

"I owe you my life." Elias said, smiling. "Celina here explained everything about Zallgonis."

"Anyways, I'll just let you two talk." Celina said, walking out of the room. Cinder sat up, and looked around the room.

"I'm glad you survived." Elias said, looking her in the eyes. "So... Ella, this is what you were hiding."

"Did Cselina tell you?" Cinder said, nervously.

"No, but how could I make a mistake. You might be a dragon, but I can still tell you are my Ella. Why else would you have her pendant?" he asked, pulling the shards out of his pocket.

"Sso you rreally do know..." Cinder said, thinking. She figured he probably would send her off soon.

"Besides, you still have those same golden eyes." He said, smiling. "So, you know, it is eight-fifty nine. Remember that deal we made?"

"You mean the one about the kisss? Yeah. The deal is prrobably off. After all, you prrobably wouldn't kisss me."

"What if I did?" he said, smiling at her.

"But I'm a drragon!" She cried, stunned. "You'rre parrt of the rroyal family! You can't marrry another sspeciess!"

"Nothing says I can't! Besides, I could care less if you're a dragon. To me, you'll always be that girl who back-sassed me." He said, sitting on the bed next to her, his arm around her.

"Sso you would love a drragon?" She asked, confused beyond words. Everything she knew about human customs was shattered.

"You fell in love with me, too, if I'm not mistaken." He said, looking into her eyes.

"But I..." she stuttered, her head held low. "I don't know."

"It's almost nine." He said, looking at her. "Please, Cinder, this is our chance." Cinder really wanted to be with him, but yet, she had her doubts. Hesitantly, she closed her eyes, and slowly moved her lips closer. His lips met hers as well. At first, they both just sat there, their faces awkwardly pressed at the lips, before Elias finally actually began kissing her. The two kissed for several moments.

Pulling away from her, Elias said, "How was that?"

"Grreat..." She purred, in a bit of a dreamy state. Shaking her head, she thought about what was going on, and tried to use her moment of clear-mindedness to her advantage. "Okay, Eliass. I don't know how you plan on doing thiss, but, if you rreally want to be with me, I have but one condition." She said, as he gently ran his hand across her scaled cheek.

"Anything." He said, looking at her.

"I assk that you put a prrotection law on my kind, so that no other drragonss will have to suffer the cruel life I facsed." She said, smiling.

"Fine, but you need to do one thing for me." He said, hugging her tightly. "Never worry about what species we are. I love you. I want you to treat me as your equal, and I will do the same."

"But, since my pendant shatterred, I can't change into a human." She sighed.

"I want to get to know the real you a little better, anyways." He said, standing up. "After all, the festival isn't quite over. Besides, you'll eventually learn to change into a human on your own. Personally, I'm happy if you're happy. Now get out of that bed, and let's go! After all, I'm sure you wouldn't mind another dance."

"Yess ssir!" Cinder said, hopping out of the bed. "Sso your ssure you want to be sseen with a drragon?" she asked, laughing.

"Remember our promise!" He laughed. "We are equal Now let's go!"

Several weeks later, King Elias and Queen Cinder walked through the streets. Cinder was in her human form, mainly to draw less attention. "Hey, Elias, can we stop by this all-you-can eat buffet?" she asked, walking over to a fancy restaurant "I've got to pay back some friends."

"Alright." Elias said, walking with her into the white building.

"Aren't you the king and queen?" the restaurant owner asked, kneeling. Cinder pulled out a bag of gold coins, and sat them on the table. "That's enough to buy the place six times!" he cried.

"Sir, I have a special request. Every Wednesday, I want you to open a buffet for all the animals in town. I will check to see once and a while, so please, make sure you follow through." Cinder said, smiling.

"Yes, your majesty!" he said, bowing. As Cinder and Elias walked out, they saw the ex-baroness, Sabrina, haggling at a melon stand.

"Please! I only have a bronze piece!" she cried. Her clothes were torn apart.

"I guess that will teach you to try and study magical fire spells in a mansion." Cinder said, walking up to her.

"Your majesty! Can I please have a few gold pieces? You know I always loved you!" the baroness cried, kneeling at Cinder's feet.

"You can kiss my tail." Cinder said, turning her back.

"That is cold." Elias said, looking at her.

"Fine. I'll tell you what. I will give you twenty gold pieces if you use at least one to put flowers on father and Tarin's graves. Trust me, I'll check." Cinder said, glaring at her,

"Thank you so much!" Sabrina cried as she took the coins from Cinder's hand. She hastily ran into a nearby floral shop, unable to look Cinder in the eyes.

"You can be cold to her and Mary." Elias said, laughing.

"Hey, let them chain you in a basement for most of your life, and see how you like them." She said, sighing. "I think being poor could be a good experience for them."

"Hard to believeshe tried to cast a fire spell, and burned down the house." Elias said with a sigh. "She couldn't use your fire, so she tried to make her own."

"I know. Oh well, maybe she'll straighten up." Cinder laughed. "Anyways, I think we should get going. I'm getting hungry."

"So where do you want to eat at?" Elias asked, looking around.

"I here that The Dragon Stone has good food!" she exclaimed, looking at a large restaurant.

"Oh, come on! You just like it because it has the word dragon in the name!" Elias said, laughing.

"Well, dragons are pretty great." She said proudly.

"Ah, well, I've only met one. She is the most amazing girl I've ever met, but I'm not sure all dragons are like that! He said, looking at her. After both laughing, Cinder took his hand.

"Anyways, I just wanted to try it. After all, they are rumored to have the best fruit dishes." Cinder said, looking at him happily. "If you want to go somewhere else, that's fine."

"Nah, I'm fine." He said, turning to walk in.

"Cinder! Elias!" A familiar female voice cried.

"Celina?" Cinder exclaimed, as the silver-robed girl ran up to them.

"Zallgonis has a sister..." she stuttered, exausted.

"Alright, Celina, why don't you join us, and inform us of the details?" Elias said, with a smile.

"I agree. After all, I'm sure that a king and queen, with all their resources, can help you with a demon.

"Her name is Allingondis, and her weakness is the claws of a gryphon." Celina said as they sat at a table.

"Do gryphons exist?" Elias asked, looking at Cinder.

"Honestly, I've never seen them, but I'm sure there are people who don't believe dragons exist." Cinder said, with a sigh.

"Any idea on where to look?" Elias asked the two girls.

"So much for a peaceful rule." Cinder said, laughing.

"Don't worry, Cinder. "Elias encouraged. We'll get rid of this demon. After all, stranger things have happened!"

"Yeah, you're right." Cinder said, looking to Celina. "We'll check the library, ask all the scholars, and find your gryphon."

"Thank you, Cinder. Thank you, Elias." Celina said, bowing.

"Anything else we should know?" Elias asled Celina.

"I think they said that the demon appears as a witch, and is obsessed with trying to be the most beautiful being in existence." Celina said, gulping. "That... and she has a magical talking mirror..."
