i.Tied originated as an idea in the mid 2000s, when a computer programming college major woman who was sexually activate and hated the culture of slut shaming and sexual negativity decided to create an app she thought the world needed; one that promotes sexuality and sex positivity.
i.Tied eschews anonymity for real photos and identities, to promote an atmosphere of safety and openness. i.Tied also uses a rating system to leave feedback on those users have agreed to hook up with and checked in with. This safety feature keeps track of its users' whereabouts while also allowing only for honest reviews.
Becoming a user is as simple as signing up, no payment necessary. Users must submit a recent STI test upon their week probationary period as well as government issues identification to be authorized for usage. After becoming a member, users are required to submit regular STI tests and maintain their status on their profiles in order to stay within the app's usage. Users who wish to meet others in a 3rd party location may utilize i.Tied's new chain of kNot Hotels , located in major cities across the world. These hotels provide free condoms, charge for hourly rentals and require checking in and out for your safety. Users who fail to adhere to i.Tied's Safety and Consent guidelines are removed from the platform.
As part of i.Tied's Terms of Service , all messages between users are logged and serve as legally binding written contracts. i.Tied treats health and safety as top priorities and will not tolerate any violation of trust on the platform.
Operation
i.Tied operates by users establishing basic information about themselves, including physical appearance and sexual attitudes, and must create a current template for a partner when searching.
Features
Profiles are used to show the user's physical appearance and measurements (should they provide them), and searching for a partner requires the user to go through and generate a profile of a suitor to match their desires. Specifications include, but are not limited to, gender, dom-sub/top-bottom preference, usage of toys, usage of condoms, inclination towards knotting or not, and so on. The list is extensive and ever-growing as we listen the community to match their needs and wants. Recent developments have added a kink search option with varying levels of meters built in to denote how interested the party involved is, ranging from "Entirely Option" to "Non-optional" and will match other users accordingly.
Features include not just meeting for hookups, but streaming options for exhibitionists/voyeurs, privacy sharing of images/videos, etc. Sharing of files is considered to be done in privacy and trust, and violation of such is a violation of i.Tied's T.o.S. and violators are subject to removal from platform as well as the pursuit of criminal charges against said offender.
kNot Hotels
In March 2013, i.Tied unveiled the first official kNot Hotel in Las Luces, California. This project arose from users' needs and wants for privacy and a place away from their home with which to utilize the app in a safe and legal way. kNot Hotels maintain a clean and safe atmosphere for users to engage in safe, sexual, consensual encounters with sexual necessities such as condoms and lubricants being provided for customers. Rooms are cleaned after usage and condoms and lubricants are replaced, so users are encouraged to take them with them so as not to let them go to waste. Rates for rooms vary; basic rooms with a bed and shower will only run $80 an hour. Bondage/kink/larger party-friendly rooms can run upwards of $140 an hour.
Rating System
i.Tied is most notable for the deployment and maintenance of its rating system. Users may rate one another after a hook-up with a 5-star rating system, as well as leaving reviews behind for other potential suitors to view. This practice is to encourage healthy sexual encounters that are fulfilling for both parties. Both parties must agree to hook up and check in with one another before the option to leave a review is made available, so as to avoid false reviews. Additionally, users may report another user for violations of i.Tied's T.o.S. and i.Tied will investigate the report.
Users
i.Tied is used widely throughout the world and is available in over 40 languages. Becoming a user requires government-provided proof of age and identity, as well as official and recent STI testing. Users found to be under the age of 18 will be permanently banned from the platform, and users engaging with those found to be under 18 will have their information provided to legal authorities.
i.Tied takes a stance against discriminating against those with STIs and does not make a policy of denying membership to those who are afflicted. However, users with STIs are warned that their usage of i.Tied will require they disclose their condition in a public forum in order to maintain the health and safety of those around them. Users are free to deny this request, but are then not allowed on the platform.
Security, Health and Safety
i.Tied operates in the hopes of maintaining a safe, secure and healthy environment for users to explore their sexuality. With that, i.Tied assures its users that their safety and security is of the highest priority to i.Tied.
Personal Information
Personal information of users is encrypted and protected by state of the art cyber security that maintains the talents of the some of the world's leading cyber security experts. i.Tied will never sell personal information to third parties. i.Tied does make an exception to this statement in regards to criminal activities and legal pursuits; i.Tied cooperates fully with police and other law-enforcement agencies in the pursuit of criminals. i.Tied maintains all records of messages and information sent by users and will only ever distribute those records in the case of criminal investigations, and information will only be released of those being investigated. Users can be assured that their information will remain safe with i.Tied.
Personal Safety
Personal safety is yet another big issue i.Tied involves itself in. Users are to be warned that i.Tied is not a perfect company and may make mistakes and exercise needed precautions when meeting with other users. However, kNot Hotels have been established in the hopes of allowing for safe and relaxed environments where parties can meet and engage in safe, consensual, sexual play in a third-party environment that promises safety. Users are required to check in and out together, and all kNot Hotels offer lounges for waiting for the other party or a ride should one need.
Health and Wellness
i.Tied offers sexual health and wellness clinics for those who are otherwise unable to obtain sexual medical assistance. Entirely self-funded, these clinics offer STD testing and treatment, birth control, well-woman exams, cancer screening and prevention, abortion, hormone therapy, infertility services, and general health care. In addition to this, i.Tied sees sexual health as a poorly understood topic within modern culture. To that end, i.Tied has established Personal Health and Wellness Classes , as well as Sexual Health and Wellness Classes , for its user-base. Lessons are an hour long and are $15 per person but provide advice and insight from professionals on how to maintain a happy, healthy life. These lessons may range from relationship advice to LGBT health to sexual practices. Lessons occur Saturdays and Sundays with various topics being covered.
Unfortunately, persons under the age of 18 are limited in the lessons they may participate in, as some are explicit and full of adult content. However, i.Tied understands and sympathizes with youth who find themselves in situations where they are limited in their ability to learn to understand sexuality. To that end, i.Tied has created Non-Explicit Lessons for all audiences (those not yet the age of consent and those who feel too much societal stigma to attend lessons proper) to attend for a discounted $10. These lessons focus on personal health and well-being in relationships, the basics of health and debunking myths surrounding various topics. This has been a popular alternative for parents who wish to avoid The Talk with their children, as well as youths who wish to learn more or those who are disenfranchised with federally-approved sexual education programs.
