There was too much of it. Vincent sighed, shrinking behind the huge pile of papers, files and projects-that-need-to-be-done-soons. He'd been working on them for days, if not weeks by now and the pile was just growing larger and larger like... like The Blob. BZZZZZZ. That was Vincent's phone. He scooped it up from his desk and had a look- the fifth message from a friend of his. With a lack of interest, he dropped his phone back on the table.

Not that he had something against his friend, but if he'd start chatting with anyone now, he'd just rant and whine about the amount of work he had to do and THEN he'd not get started anymore, which would then quadruple the ranting and the whining, which would just make EVERYTHING more severe. Perhaps he should put his phone away, stash it in a room nearby. Stop making excuses to get up and do your work already!

Vincent ran a hand over the back of his head and took the file that lay on top of the pile. "Oh fff-" he hissed and dropped the file on his desk as if it had just stung his hand. Music theory. Like every other mortal, Vincent LOVED music. A Saturday afternoon, putting on that kind of music and just drifting away. Therapy for the soul; soothing. When was the last time he had done that? Couple of weeks ago, probably, if not more.

So Vincent had actually started playing an instrument; the Cello. Reading notes was fine, practicing Cello was a challenge, but it was fine. Even fun at times. And then there was music theory. Vincent started chewing on the back of his pencil. He did not know why exactly he HAD to study it, but one thing was for certain. If anything took the fun out of music, then it was its theory. Half of it was more complicated than rocket science and he was expected to learn all of it at home. Today, he decided, is the day the music died.

His throat was raspy. Vincent cleared his throat and set the pencil down. He needed something to drink, so he got up and slouched to the kitchen. There was still some Mountain Dew or so... unless his siblings drank it up. The fridge was vastly empty, so Vincent slammed it shut a bit too hard and got himself a glass out of the cupboard, filling it with tap water. Vincent cringed; tap water always tasted like chlorine and was always his last straw. Well, Vincent was all out of straws.

"Agh... disgusting," Vincent muttered and placed his used glass on the kitchen counter, making his way back to his room. With another exhausted sigh, he dropped back onto his office chair and ran a hand over his face. "Just a few more hours, Vincent, come on!" he told himself and looked back at his music theory.

Vincent screamed much louder than ever before in his life when he saw the short, tiny man standing right on top of his papers, staring at him with huge eyes. "WHAAAAAAA!" he screamed. "AHHHHHHHH!" the tiny man screamed back and Vincent leapt upward, his chair tilting before it crashed to the ground, taking Vincent down with it. He landed on his carpet, but the impact and the surprise still hurt!

The frightened student tore his head up and blinked, staring at his table. "... the fuck?" he muttered and got back up, eyeing the table curiously. There was no man to be found. Just a mug that he had left standing between the piles of assignments. "Geez," Vincent muttered and rubbed over his eyes," I need sleep." "Sorry." "It's fine," Vincent said and scooped his chair back up, before he stared at the desk wide-eyed," Wait, who said that?!"

At this point highly crept out, Vincent took a step away from the desk. Then another. Something was off! Then he saw a tiny head poke out behind the cup, staring at him with concerned, blue eyes. Judging from the beard and the red clothes and hat, it must've been... "Santa?" "Who? Oh no, my youth!" the tiny man shrugged off and slowly walked into view, his head ducked as if he'd expect to be squashed in any moment," I'm the house dwarf. Tommen is the name."

House dwarf?! Vincent scratched the back of his head and nodded slowly, closing his mouth once he realized that his jaw hung open in astonishment. "You're not a troll, are you?" Tommen asked and his eyes narrowed as if he was examining Vincent. "A troll? What, no!" Vincent said and shook his head," What the f- What is a troll?" "It's a-" Tommen began and looked at his hands as if he was trying to form something in the air, before he dropped his shoulders and waved a hand dismissively at Vincent," Err nevermind, you don't need to know."

Then the brownie turned around, staring up at the piles of papers and assignments. "What are these? They look dangerous!" Tommen remarked and looked at Vincent over his shoulder. "Umm... just my assignments," Vincent said with a shrug," Don't really have the strength to work on them though." "Ohhh," Tommen said and nodded, stroking his beard," Should I make them disappear?" "What? No! I need to finish these! If they disappear, I need to start all over again!"

Tommen nodded again and frowned. "You seem like a good person, so I would like to help you," Tommen said and gave a warm smile. "Really?" Vincent asked and his face beamed," Oh man, I could really use a helping hand here!" "What needs to be done first?" "Well uhh... you're standing on it." "Oh?" Tommen gave a surprised yelp and stumbled back, staring down at his feet. "Ahh," he said and smiled, his cheeks wrinkling," This will be easy. Come, sit down, I shall explain it to you!" Vincent approached him with a whiff of surprise and disbelief. "You know this?" "Dear boy," Tommen said and sat down at the top of the paper," Where do you think music theory comes from? We passed it on!" So you bastards took the fun out of music! Vincent thought and chuckled, before sitting down.

A few hours later, the duo had managed to work through a couple of assignments. The pile had visibly shrunk. By now it was about as tall as Tommen himself. And now working with the house dwarf was even fun! Vincent was impressed by his vast amount of knowledge and the never-ending patience to explain even the most simplest thing to a human like him! The small man pulled another assignment from the pile, heaving and wheezing as he did so. Shortly afterwards, he was staring at Vincent's biology assignment. "Nature studies...," he mumbled and stared at the cover," What do you have to do here?" "Mhh, I need to write a 5-page essay about the," Vincent dramatically cleared his throat," Panthera leo. The lion." "Aha. When does it need to be done?" "In nine days."

Tommen looked at the picture of a lion imprinted on the cover and nodded. "Sadly, Vincent, my knowledge comes to an end here," he said and looked up at Vincent with a sad shrug," I have never seen this beast before! It's not native in these woods, is it?" "Uhh, no, no it isn't," Vincent said and shrugged too," But it's fine, Tommen, you've been a great help so far! I wouldn't have managed without you, I think!" "Ahh hehe, no worries, my friend. But-" Tommen mumbled and stroked his chin, his forehead wrinkled," I think I have a plan how this could work." "...You do?"

Tommen pulled a small feather from his pouch, walking to Vincent's fountain pen. "May I?" he asked politely and Vincent nodded. The he dipped the tip of his feather into the ink that was on the tip of Vincent's pen and walked towards Vincent. "Give me your arm, please." "What do you want to do?" "This will help you for the assignment. It's a learning experience."

Still rather curious and unsatisfied by Tommen's answer, Vincent outstretched his arm nonetheless and let the small man scribble something onto his arm. "Ouch! Oww, that hurts, what are you doing?!" Vincent hissed, but didn't want to interrupt Tommen at 'work'. "It's a tattoo," Tommen said and stepped back proudly. Not that Vincent could decipher the small writing- it seemed to be in an unknown writing style too- but he could tell that it was neat and done by a professional. "Looks cool! Thanks, man," Vincent said, not sure what else to say to the tiny tattoo on his forearm. His arm was still tingling a bit, his fingers twitchy.

Tommen stood on the desk, nodding with a sense of pride. "If it should work, then-" "Ugh," Vincent rocked forward, suddenly wheezing," What is- agh!" His whole body started to hurt and his muscles started to cramp. Tommen was hiding behind the mug again. "Ok, maybe this was a bad idea." "A bad IDEA? Why are you only considering this n- OWWW!"

Something thick and furry snaked its way through Vincent's underwear and he could feel hairs brush against the back of his shirt. "What did you DO?!" "It's meant as a learning experience!" Vincent got up, his legs shaking and trembling as the furry appendage snaked its way down a pant leg. He groaned and shivered as more hairs sprouted on his back, spreading over his shoulders. His nose twitched, thin, silky whiskers sprouting out of his cheeks and Vincent sneezed loudly.

"ACHOOO!" The dazed boy rubbed over his pink and flat nose, groaning as his fingers gnarled, his fingernails sharpening, disappearing in a short fluff of fur. "B-bless you!" "What is... ugh, what's going on?!" Vincent tripped and lost his balance, landing on his bed with a squeal. A soft landing for once! He thought and felt his hair grow longer and frizzier. Golden hair hung into his face and he groaned, feeling his ears tingle and grow. "No no no, not my ears!" he whimpered as they turned pointy, covered in soft golden hairs, moving further up his head, halfway hidden in his fluffy mane.

When his feet enlarged and his calves grew bigger, Vincent screamed. Not that much out of panic, but because he could hear his expensive Levi Jeans rip and tear. "NO! It cost so much money, mom will kill me!" he hissed in protest and quickly tried to unbuckle the belt before the damage got any worse, but he was too slow. His leg muscles had torn open the seams at the bottom. In frustration, his back paws raked over the carpet, leaving four deep scratches. Now that his belt was off, his pants slid to the ground effortlessly, showing off his furred and muscled legs. "Oh God... could this day get any worse?"

His tail twitched as if in agreement and he stood up, staring at himself. There was a big mane on his head. He could evens see it when he looked down. It grew out of his chin and covered his throat, wandering up his head. Vincent ran a hand through it and shivered when he touched one of his ears. They were at the wrong place! All of it was wrong. Vincent moaned and pulled his shirt up. He was completely covered in the golden-yellowish-brown fuzz, the fur fluffier on his chest and near his pelvis.

Vincent stepped out of his ruined jeans, standing on his rear paws. It felt as if he was standing on tip-toes! Heck, he was! But at the same time it felt natural to him! He scooped up the torn Jeans and held it up- Oh God, even his hands had paw pads! On his fingers too! He was a monster! "Look at these, Tommen! They are ruined! Now change me back, I think I'll be just fine without this!" Vincent sneered at his desk. His desk however was empty. "Tommen?"

Feeling his heartbeat rise, Vincent stepped towards the table and peered behind the mug. Tommen was not there. In a rising panic, he checked behind the stack of books, assignments and then even beneath the table. He did not have the courage to check outside of his room though. There were windows! What if people would see him?! "Ahh... shit... Tommen!" Vincent shouted and dropped back onto his chair with a snivel, squealing when he accidentally sat down onto his tail. "Aieee!" With a frown, he pulled his tail out of his underwear, so that it could sway behind his back somewhat freely. Then he noticed the letter on his desk. It was scribbled and hard to read- Tommen wasn't used to writing in such big letters and he probably was in a hurry too.

"Dear Vincent, I am sorry that it seems like such an inconvenience to you, but I am sure that thanks to this experience you will be able to write the essay about lions! What better way to experience it than being one yourself?

Do not panic, the changes will reverse after seven days and I will pay you another visit once you've calmed down. Also, I know your kind does think of magic rather abstract, so I made sure that your changes and... 'odd' behavior will be visible to you and you only.

Best of luck with your assignments! And I will get those pants of yours fixed. Your friend, Tommen."

Vincent sighed and put the letter back onto the desk, his ears drooping. His heart was still beating too fast and he still felt close to a breakdown right now. Tommen just meant well... and perhaps he just overreacted! He flexed his foot claws and sighed. All the hard work had exhausted him, made him hungry! The newly found lion part inside of him had a sudden craving for flesh and Vincent got up with a little growl. With his improved hearing, Vincent already heard the door click and unlock from his room. Then he began to smile. He was in the mood for some meat! "Mom?" he shouted when he heard the rest of the household arrive," What's for dinner?"
