Tonio's was a family run pizza place that had survived through the generations over the special secret way that they had prepared each and every order for those special customers that wanted something more than the usual run of the mill circular slabs of pastry with cheese and tomato on top. As such, over the years the family had perfected their business to such an extent that when Tonio managed to inherit it from his last remaining relative, he had much to prove to the citizens of Hoofrock City.

Tonio was one of those large black rats from across the sea, well that was what his family always kept telling him with stories on how things were bad as they tried to find a place in a new hostile land that had been discovered, At first the family didn't own any business but helped out as needed with the larger and stronger equine settlers that helped to carve out the land and bend it to its will after seasons of struggle.

This was when Tonio thought about as he turned his head to the wall to his right as he looked at the large painting replica that stared back in a heroic pose, one hoof had been placed on top of a rock that had cracked under the pressure of being stepped on. The rat looked more at the painting that showed the large brown horse that looked up to the sky with a triumph roar as if challenging the incoming storm clouds, dark and brooding in the background to come and attempt to take back the land that had been won and claimed.

Idly, with a large black hand paw, Tonio resumed to wipe the counter with a damp cloth as he gave a soft sigh, the eyes unfocused as he thought of times past, where childhood stories were just stories and the meaning of life with all of its complications and mysteries remained locked away in a threatening chest that whispered fake promises to those that dared approached and ventured into the real world of adulthood.

Only the sensation of tingling from the cleaning solution could be felt as Tonio thought back to the image of him sitting at the table as his mother slowly pulled the small pizza from the stone baked oven, the charcoal stained brickwork told a long detailed story of the flames that danced about from time to time over the past few months. It was coming near to another clean as Tonio smiled up at his larger mother who smiled back and placed the pizza down onto the plate that rested on the table in front of him. "Remember, take your time and find your path. Then you can perfect your own perfect recipe and fulfil your destiny when the business is yours."

And like being pulled back sharply, reality brought Tonio back from his memories of the past as he heard the alarm from behind as he left the crumpled-up cloth on the counter and turned his attention to the oven. There rested on a hot slab of stone, the bright orange glow had risen the pizza that had turned golden brown. The rat reached to his left as he grabbed hold of the thick wooden ladle and carefully took two steps back as he twisted the pole around in his hand paw until the wide flat section began level and with a quick inhale of breath, Tonio held his breath as he slid the ladle underneath the pizza and carefully lifted it up from the hot stone shelf.

So much was his concentration that he had not heard the door at the front of the store open and close as he heard a voice from behind that nearly made him make a mistake, to allow the pizza to fall from its temporary home and onto the floor. It was the words that made the rat pin his ears to the back of his head and frowned. "How long you going to be, made the order half an hour ago, it should be ready by now."

As he adjusted the grip around the rough wooden pole, Tonio looked behind him and saw a rather chubby fox that stood there in a checked jacket and a t-shirt that was two sizes too small for the shape of his torso. "I'm sorry, it's done now, if you don't mind waiting a moment." Tonio could hear the sigh that came from the fox as he frowned and carefully moved the ladle around until he saw the cardboard box that was open and ready and carefully, the rat made some slight adjustments before he allowed it to slip into the box and moved quickly now to place the ladle back against the brick wall and walked across the area to where the pizza box was and closed it.

"It's about time." The fox frowned as he looked at the pizza box that had been placed onto the counter as the rat opened it up and then replied. "I'm sorry sir, but here is your meat feast with extra chicken." Tonio looked at the fox who stared down at the pizza and gave a questionable look before his snout scrunched up as he took a deep sniff and muttered under his breath.

"I beg your pardon, didn't quite hear that?" Tonio enquired as he held the cardboard box that bit more as his fingers left a slight incline as the cardboard gave way under the pressure. "I said, is that it, look I'm not going to pay full for this, it was late and frankly not up to much. So, I'll pay half or not at all."

The tip of Tonio's tail twitched as it showed the anger that had welled into the rat at that exact moment, but his face remained calm as he fought against everything to not show it on his face or ears. "I'm so sorry, of course you can have it at half price." The rat blinked at the notes were put onto the counter with some coins and the fox grunted and headed off with the box in hand as he left the building.

"Yu!" Tonio cried out as he took the notes and coin, the ears on his head was flat against his skull as he turned around to see a fat panda enter from the back room. "You know that arrogant fox came in again for pizza, we really should consider banning him." The rat looked at the money and sighed. "I don't think he's ever paid in full and yet..."

Yu walked over and gave Tonio a hug as he backed away and paced a large paw on the left shoulder of the rat that stood in front of him. "And have him stir up trouble for us with the other customers? No, we will endure it as that is what he wants. You do good work, that is why he has failed as he keeps on coming back."

The hug as well as the warm contact on his shoulder, made Tonio feel better as his tail stopped frankly moving about as it curled and uncurled slowly as he smiled back at his partner. "Thank you, mind if you stay out at front for a bit and help out with the customers?"

Yu gave a soft smile, the largest of his teeth could be seen behind his black skinned lips and he slowly spoke back to Tonio. "I would be happy to do so; I've finished with what had to be done in the back room." With a gentle nose bump, the panda turned to the counter and continued the work that Tonio had only done a few minutes ago and began to finish wiping the countertop.

As he moved towards the stone oven, Tonio could hear Yu hum a song from his homeland gently and the rat felt a tingle that ran from the tip of his tail as it made itself up and along the spine and then came the shiver that calmed him down more. With a soft smile, Tonio gave a look back at the large panda, the string tied into a bow from his apron and that small black ball tail that slightly moved about, and the rat felt warmth as it replaced the shiver that ran right through him. With a lighter heart, the rodent went and looked inside of the stone oven and with a reach, he unhooked another tool from the stone brick wall and began work on scraping away the bits that had accumulated on the bottom part of the oven as he pulled them towards the opening.

The sound of the metal tool that scraped over the stone didn't affect Tonio at all, but he could hear Yu jerk to the sound as his foot paw claws clinked onto the tile floor. Not once had he heard Yu complain about the noise, but Tonio knew that it was something that the panda did not like to hear and as such, the rodent made sure to make quick work of the task as he reached and pushed the remains into a Bruch pan and turned to his right as he dropped the remains into an open bucket.

"Oh, Leo is back from his delivery." Yu said as he shook the cloth before he placed it away under the counter and not long after that, the door of the shop opened, and Leo walked in as he took off his helmet and smiled. "That's that order done, anymore for me to take out?"

Tonio turned around and shook his head. "Not at the moment, you may as well put your feet up for a bit and enjoy the rest." Leo looked about and nodded as he made his way to a small table and placed the bike helmet down before he sat down into the chair with a sigh. "Traffic is awful on the main junction, nearly didn't get the pizza there on time."

Tonio could feel the muscles in his gut begin to tighten again as Yu looked at Leo questionably as the raccoon continued on with his tail, the male unzipped his leather jacket as he rolled his shoulders back and forth as it slipped off before crumpling behind him on the chair. "But no worries, I know all the short cuts in the city, I managed to make not only the time but to get there five minutes early."

Leo got back up again as he made his way to the counter and put the bills down onto it as he smiled. "They were so impressed that they paid in full and gave a tip." The raccoon put the money on the counter and nodded as Yu picked it up and smiled. "You did good." Tonio nodded as he gave the panda a nod as Yu handed back the tip to the raccoon. "You earned this as usual."

"Why thank you, I can put this to good use." Leo said as he pocketed the notes into his leather pants and then rested an elbow on the counter. "I did though see a very grumpy fox speed past me in his truck."

Tonio made an annoyed looked as he turned away to tend to the oven as he placed another log underneath to keep the fire going before he shut the door a bit harder than he wanted to. Leo looked at Yu with a raised brow and Yu just nodded back at Leo without saying a sound. They both blinked and turned as Tonio stood there with arms about his chest as he spoke. "Go on, out with it."

Leo looked at Tonio and shrugged his shoulders as he looked back at the large rat that stood there with his back to the pizza oven behind him. "You have to stop allowing him to ruin your day, he's just an arse."

Tonio looked at Leo and smiled. "And you say this from experience?" Leo gave a small grin. "Look, I know our kind can be well... Annoying but we know an arse when one is an arse. It's just a waste for you to get all worked up on someone that won't change."

The rat relaxed and walked over to the counter as he sighed and nodded his head. "I know, I know. This is just something that I have to get used to that's all." It was Yu that gave the rat a pat on the shoulder again. "We're not judging you; we're just concerned that you're not okay by someone's actions that are beyond your control."

"Well, now that we got that sorted out again, can I be so bold in asking for a bite to eat and drink before the next order comes in?" Leo smiled as he looked at Tonio and Yu. "And let's not make it a pizza, I've been delivering those for a while now and fancy something light like a sandwich." The raccoon waggled a finger as he said this to them both. "Maybe some of that salmon you got, hmm?"

Yu looked at Leo and blinked. "How you know I got salmon in again?" The panda gave a suspicious look at the raccoon who just gave a toothy grin back before he responded with a shrug of his shoulders. "Hey, I have sources." The panda raised a questionable brow at the raccoon who then gave a sheepish look and continued with his reply. "Okay, okay, I saw you at the supermarket buying some last night."

Yu leant over the counter as he placed both elbows onto it and rested his chin onto both of his paws as he grinned at Leo as Tonio watched on in amusement. "Oh, really? And why didn't you come up to me and say hello?"

The playful snarky reply came back from Leo as he leaned forwards so that his face was near to the panda as he looked directly into the eyes. "Because, I saw something better than you at the time." Yu blinked as he felt and smelled the breath from the raccoon as he replied to him. But Yu was curious now as he decided to probe further into this small adventure that the raccoon had laid out for him. "Oh, I'm shocked, to be left along to only have Tonio here, who or what would be more important than me?"

"Oh, it was the most beautiful thing ever, so perfect with such lovely curves, the smell, the sights. It was enough to make my heart skip with love." Leo said with a wishful look on his face as he gave a happy sigh as Yu saw the raccoon think back onto the moment that was from last night. "Go on?" Yu prodded the raccoon to continue with his tale of adventure.

Leo looked at Yu, then at Tonio who had moved to the side and had begun to make the sandwich that Leo wanted. With that knowledge known, the raccoon turned his head back to the curious panda that had not moved from his current position and was determined to push forward with the line of enquiry. As such, the raccoon felt he had some time to pull the panda along a bit more.

"Are you really sure you want to know? Think about that, this could change things for the better or for the worse and I cannot tell." Leo smiled at Yu who didn't respond at first as he looked thoughtful but the raccoon could hear Tonio give a quiet giggle and the raccoon made a quick motion with his hand nearest to the side that the rat was to make him stop, Tonio caught it and went silent quickly before the sound of bread was being sliced by a knife as it went against the wooden chopping board.

"I am sure, yes I think I am." Yu said more to himself as he nodded back to the raccoon that listened to the panda and decided that it was time to stop teasing and to give an actual answer back to the curious panda. "Well, you see it was the most beautiful thing that had come across my path and I could not just allow it to get away from my grasp."

"Oh, will you just tell me!" Yu said a bit loudly than before as he frowned at the raccoon and Leo knew that his teasing had reached a limit as the raccoon finally gave his answer as he pulled away and held up both of his hands. "Alright, alright. It was new 9000 shock absorbers with Quadtanium Nano coating for a smoother ride, so you don't feel the bumps... What?"

Leo stopped as he looked at Yu who just stared dumbfounded and then at Tonio who had turned around now and was trying hard to stifle a laugh as the raccoon turned his head back again to where the panda was, opened mouthed as the raccoon reached over and gently placed one of his long fingers under the white furred chin and gently closed the mouth again. "Careful Yu, you may lose your brain if you have your mouth open like that all the time."

It was at this moment that Tonio couldn't fight against the ache in his chest as he began to laugh loudly which made Yu fluster more in both astonishment and embarrassment at the situation as he gave Tonio a look and back to Leo again, the words just weren't able to come out from the panda's lips as he swallowed and fought hard to speak at Leo. "Are you kidding me?! You neglected to say hello to me over some new slutty shock absorbers?"

The raccoon took a step back as he shrugged his shoulders at Yu. "What can I say, I like to have smooth rides, not the sort of bumpy ride you offer." Yu stared at Leo for a moment before the panda replied to the raccoon. "I won't have you eat my salmon until you apologise making out with your shock also..." Wu couldn't finish the sentence as Leo tip toed and leant over the counter to plant a full-on kiss to Yu as he kissed deep and passionately before he broke it with a thin line of saliva. "I'm sorry, forgive me. I see something like that and go weak at the knees when I forget that you are important."

Yu moved his right-hand paw which was large and placed it onto the side of his friend's cheek with a gentle nod of his head. "It's okay, I know you wouldn't do that on purpose." Wu slowly removed his paw from Leo and placed it back down again as he looked at Tonio who had stopped laughing by now and had made a few steps towards them with a small plate that rested on the palm of his left hand paw and he placed the plate onto the counter in front of Leo and gave a soft playful grin. "Finished with the teasing?"

Wu gave Tonio a nudge with his elbow as the rat blinked at his mate and then nodded to himself. "I would take that as a yes then, sorry for interrupting you two love birds." Before Tonio could move away, Wu had grabbed his arm and the panda gave Leo a nod as the raccoon leaned over the counter again to this time plant a deep kiss onto the rat's maw.

Tonio felt his toes curled slightly from the kiss which was over within a few seconds and he gave a soft exhale of air as he saw Leo take the plate of salmon sandwiches and made his way back to the table and sat down. Wu grinned at Tonio as he turned to give the large rat a hug. "We okay now?" Wu saw the rat nod his head as they took to the moment to hold each other close. It was then that the phone rang, and Wu gave a gentle but tighter hug and broke it as he spoke. "Well, looks like break is coming to an end then."

While they were hugging each other close, Leo had taken hold of the receiver of the phone ad had answered it. "I'm sorry, but our staff are busy at the moment, but if you listen to the holding music you will get to them shortly." The raccoon took a deep breath in as he held it and with a loud voice, he began singing the pizza song. Leo didn't get to the end of the first verse as Wu had moved very quickly for his large size and yanked the receiver away from the raccoon who blinked and then made a silent look of pain as he felt the panda claws run across his fur on the upper paw.

"Good afternoon, welcome to Tonio's... Yes, it is... Okay, good early evening sir. What can I do for you?" Wu listened to the voice on the other side of the line as he looked at Tonio for a moment and then back to the counter as he slid the notepad with a red coloured pen towards him, flicked the top off as it bounced against the hard surface and hit the palm that Leo had moved his paw to make sure that it didn't fall off the edge as he saw the panda scribble something down in the black ink. "Very good sir, due to this special order, that we cannot guarantee that the pizza will be delivered in the usual half hour. It could take a few hours for it to be made and delivered. Do you agree to this?"

With both Tonio looking at Wu curiously and Leo playing with the top of the pen with his paw, the claws making sounds as he rolled it about his fingers and clicking the edge of the top. Wu looked at him, but he was too busy listening to the voice on the other side of the phone line to say much. The tension was there as Wu gave his goodbye and put the phone down as he looked towards Tonio. "Seems you have a task in hand. They want a special, the special, the one that costs a hundred dollars."

Tonio gave a toothy grin as he slowly went to the door that Wu had arrived from before as Wu spoke out. "The room has been cleaned and prepared, so there's not much for you to do than make the pizza." The panda turned his head back towards the large rat and smiled. "I'll keep regular orders going out."

As Tonio opened the door he could hear Leo begin to talk to Wu, "So what did you think the customer wanted it for?" Wu rolled his shoulders as he replied. "Seems to be a party going on, something you be interested in. Well, actually we all would come to think about it." With a smirk, the rat pushed the door open and slinked around the side of it as he made his way into the other room and flicked the light switch on the wall just to the right of the door frame. Only the tail remained in the main room as it moved quickly forward and vanished from sight as the door closed behind with the flicker of life from the light in the room, then it made a clunk sound as it closed fully.

Leo sighed as he walked back to where the table was and slinked his body back into the seat as he spoke. "I really wish he would allow others to see how he makes that pizza. I mean, we haven't been in the dark too much. It's a guess really." The raccoon picked up what remained of his salmon sandwich and took another bite from it, chewing the bread and tuna as he continued to speak. "I mean, he comes out smelling of pizza and-"

Wu interrupted the raccoon. "Whatever he does back there is one of his secrets that won't be known to me or you unless he decides to inform someone that will carry on the line." The panda looked back at the door and then forwards again as he continued to speak. "It's not as if his father informed him of the secret to his success when he had this business."

"I suppose your right. None of our business after all." Leo replied back as another customer came into the place, a female rabbit that suddenly brought Leo into defence mode and quickly checked the door before he looked outside of the window and saw that the danger was safely locked away behind the doors of the SUV and relaxed again. It was going to be a big order and Leo was glad that he would not have to deliver it as he listened to the many pizzas that had to be made and smiled, which was killed brutally by karma as he heard the female added that they wanted it to be delivered and Leo watched as she paid, gave the address and quickly ran back out to scold two of the youngsters in the car that had begun to fight. Leo was about to complain but he saw that Wu had already began on the order and all that the raccoon could do in response to that was sigh before he looked out of the window as he saw the bright pink SUV pull off as the sound from the back was enough to get through the window and it made Leo shudder, he thought to himself. 'I need another job...'

What Wu had said before he had entered the room had been correct, Tonio didn't have to question his mate as he looked about the pristine room and smiled to himself, as he felt the room was warm from the other pizza oven that was lite and ready for use. The rat began to limber up as he rolled his shoulders back and forth as the sound of his shoulder joints moved about, allowing the ligaments to loosen up. Slowly Tonio took off the plastic that was around his trainers and tossed them into the bin that was just below the light switch in the room.

The last thing he did was to remove the apron that adorned him as he reached behind his large frame as his big plump fingers searched and with thumb and finger, he caught the edge of both of the strings and began to pull as the butterfly knot became loose. Slowly, he reached upwards as he pulled the loop from around his neck and tossed the apron into the same bin, leaving the rat to stand there naked in the room as he walked over to where the side table was, along with a wall refrigerator. Careful, the rodent began to get the various ingredients as he took them out from the various cupboards. Tonio was in his own world now, the rat whiskers twitched as he sniffed every vegetable that he brought out, the texture feeling against his hand-paw palms as his tail moved about on the floor, side to side as it mimicked the movements of one paw or the other until it slipped around as the tip slid under the counter and wrapped around a handle as it pulled the container from the darkness and upwards as the container was placed onto the counter top and then slinked back down again to its usual movements behind the male.

Along the wall, the rodent saw the various knives from small to large and selected a small length blade as he grabbed the first mushroom, then began to quickly slice away as he sniffed the air to the smell of earth hit his nose, the lovely scent of fresh mushrooms. With each mushroom that was sliced, he quickly moved the blade in a sweeping sensation as he pushed them to a small pile to the side.

As the rat worked, he could hear various sounds that came from outside, more orders had come in, various other drivers had arrived and then the dull sound of the motorcycle had started up as Tonio knew that the raccoon had resumed his task of delivering pizzas again as he heard the engine roar and slowly died off into the distance. The next task for the rat to accomplish was replacing the small knife with a medium size one and slowly he began to cut the bell pepper into slices as he placed them all into a metal strainer bowl until it had all been placed inside and that's when Tonio took them over to the sink and began to run them under the tap as he ran his paw digits over the sliced peppers to remove the seeds that had been left behind.

Eventually, the rat had all the ingredients that was to be placed on top of the pizza ready and so he made his way back over to the counter again and placed the wet sliced bell pepper into a bowl, then picked up the sliced mushroom as he tossed them on top. The final vegetable ingredient was within the fridge as he opened it and looked at the various plastic containers and picked the one that had small yellow sweetcorn that had already been removed from the stalk, washed and strained and placed into the container. Tonio took a pawful of the cool, squishy and yet firm to his skin sweetcorn and added it to the onion and mushrooms. It was then that he began to clear away the parts that had been left on the counter as he put the container of sweetcorn away before he replaced it with some pepperoni.

The rat held the long meaty tube with his long fingers, using the claws to keep the appendage in place as he reached for another knife on the wall and slowly began to carefully slice the pepperoni into thin slices, each time he moved his hand paw slightly along the meat. With each slice of the knife that went downwards, Tonio could feel the cold metal slide over the side of his skin on the nearest digit without cutting into it. Once he had enough slices, the rat placed the knife to the side and with his hand paw, scooped up the slices as he moved them to the side.

With everything ready with the ingredient, Tonio turned his attention to where the dough was stored, prepared earlier by Wu and he slowly walked along but then stopped as he felt that he had his trainers on or where they called sneakers, the rat thought to himself as he made his way over to where a stool stood in the corner of the room and sat down as he heard the wooden legs creak under the weight. Tonio leant down as he began to untie the laces on each of the footwear that he is wearing and sighed as he slowly pulled them off for them to be hit by the cool air in the room.

It was always like this, every single time when he removed his footwear that he hated to wear but for the task ahead, this was a price to pay. Slowly he walked over to the cupboard that the dough was stored and slowly he took it out along with the large metal thin sheet and carried it gently into the centre of the room and placed it down onto the ground. As Tonio looked down at the ball of dough, the rat smiled as he slowly lifted up one of his foot paws, the soles were clean along with the rest of his foot, apart from the glistened thin layer of sweat that had still accumulated from the heat of the footwear that he had only just taken off.

Then the rodent placed his foot down onto the pizza dough as the squishy mould slid about until it slid between his toes, caressing each and every part of his foot paw, it felt mildly soothing and sticky as he moved his sweaty foot about around the dough, his toes curled a bit as he pulled the dough about to fold it and stepped onto it again as his foot sweat seeped in, adding to the mixture. Tonio then shifted about as he lifted his foot and placed the other one down onto the mixture, once again his toes squelched into the pizza dough as it spread about, sinking in between his sweaty toes. Slowly, the rodent kneaded the dough with both of his foot paws as he stood there and slowly, he moved his tail as it searched for the nearest stool and once found pulled it towards him.

The sound of the stool scraped along the floor loudly before it came to a stop just behind him, the tail slowly unravelled from the leg as he curled and uncurled the toes within the dough. Tonio then sat down and continued to wiggle his toes within the dough, turning it around, squashing it, stretching as both of his feet moved about on the floor. Slowly, the rodent began to shape the dough on the floor as it began to take a flatter rounded shape.

In no time at all, the rat moved his other foot paw over as he placed it down onto the dough and began to work in earnest as his sweaty feet moved about as it stretched the dough before the toes gripped it and he folded it back again and squashed it down. With each repeated motion, the rat continued to work at the dough as he stretched it out, adding to the flavour of the dough and the hint of his own musky rat scent.

Slowly he began to shift about as he leaned backwards, before he placed his left hand paw onto the floor and his tail moved to pull the stool away from him, this is when he grunted as he felt the tightness suddenly came into his upper thigh muscles and he quickly moved his tail into the right position and lowered himself down onto the floor as his foot paws began to lift up the dough itself as it hung about around his ankles.

There the rodent used his tail to prop him up a bit and to add a bit of stability as he lifted up his legs into the air and began to use his feet to throw and stretch the dough into the air as he shifted his arms to go behind his head and watched the motions carefully. This was the part that the rodent didn't like as he felt the muscles in his legs begin to ache and as such, he began to work faster through this stage. The sound of the dough slapped against the soles of his rat foot paws and then back into the air as the rodent looked at the size and then saw that it neared to the size that it should be and Tonio knew that the next part had to be done quick as he flung the dough into the air.

Quickly the rat moved his legs down and then flipped around so that he was onto his stomach, Tonio knew that he only had a second or two and shifted into the right position and quickly bent his legs up so his foot paws were up in the air and he smiled as he felt the flat dough hit his soles and quickly he moved the legs down as he carefully laid the dough onto the metal plate again, using his arms to pull himself forwards and with the dough slipping from his toes, he pushed himself up and stood up before he turned around to look at the piece of dough that had become the pizza base.

Tonio examined the thin rough rounded dough that had laid onto the metal plate, the sight of the dough with his claw marks as well as outlines of his toes and feet made him smile. He walked over to the wall as he felt some of the dough that had stuck to the soles of his paws, making them feel sticky against the wooden planks on the floor and he grasped hold of a wheel on the wall and began to turn it clockwise.

Behind him, the rodent heard the section of the floor begin to rise as the pizza dough rose from the ground until it reached a height just around the height of the rat's hips. Tonio locked the wheel into place and then turned around to look at the raised pizza base from the floor.
