Thyngu kehn - Species lore for Aimi

Story by Isiat Squire Carcer on SoFurry

So, recently the awesome FA: aimi asked me to help her out by doing a little but of fluff for a new species she had created, one of which you can see above. Working with pretty much a blank slate, and an uncolored rough sketch, this was what I came up with for her, and I must say, I'm very pleased with how it came out. A fun little break from my usual writing to help out a dear friend :D

If you want to snag one of them, you can go ahead and send FA: aimi a line to inquire! She makes some awesome stuff!

Thyngu kehn and the rights and IP and so on so forth are all rights reserved FA: aimi

_Achara rolled her eyes, the Thai Dragoness uttering a sigh. There it was again! Did he have no mind at all to leave her in peace for simply five minutes? The scales that coated her body and tail seemed to ripple with her pent up irritation, brilliant hues of emerald and blue glistening in the sunlight that shone in through the open ceiling. The soft, silky fur along the flanks of the long, serpentine appendage made it flutter slowly, like a kite in the breeze behind her.

The Zen garden was supposed to be a place of tranquility, serenity, to escape her worldly problems and free her mind of its burdens. It was quiet. It was peaceful. It was her sanctuary. Another rock landed in the sand beside the stone she was meditating atop of, using her talent and gift to keep just a few inches above its surface.

No, she wouldn't let him ruin that for her. Not after last time. Keeping her eyes closed, she focused herself, listening to the wind as it rustled gently through the trees. She controlled her breathing, her brassy gold furred ears twitching. She was a drop of water on a still lake, ripples extending-

Thwak!

She yelped, and fell to the smooth stone with a whump as her focus on the magic was utterly shattered, a snarl building in her throat as she whirled upon the source of her fury, pointing an angry finger at the bushes nearby.

"Oww! Kraisee, I swear on all that is sacred, if you throw another rock at me, I'm going to turn you upside down, and use your horns to draw patterns in the sand!" She hissed, drawing her hands out in front of her and clapping them together, before parting the large fern's leaves with a violent gesture.

The bush simply seemed to collapse under the weight of the magic pushed against it, flattening against the ground either side of where it had been split down the middle. Her little brother balked, eyes wide in terror as he quickly made off at a sprint for the temple's doorway.

"Dad! Dad! Achara's trying to use magic against me!"

"And I'll do it again if he keeps throwing rocks at me! Didn't you learn last time when you BROKE my horn!" She snapped, reaching up to feel the jagged end of her right horn, a rough edged and broken stump, the fragile bone like porcelain. Hard to the touch, and beautiful to behold, but easily broken, especially by flying rocks... The other half she had kept in the small leather satchel she wore alongside her robes.

"Children, please! Achara, you should know better, as should you Kraisee." The disappointment and scolding in her Father's tone did more to drench the fire of her fury more than any amount of meditation could have. She stopped in her pursuit, her head bowing in shame and obedience as her father approached.

A scaled paw lifted her chin, her golden eyes meeting those of her father's.

"Come. The gold has been smelted, and we simply await your presence to continue. Soon, you will be whole again, and stronger for it." He smiled, his free hand reaching up to tap his own horns. Both were fixed with veins of the glimmering metal than shone like his scales, testament to a lifetime of breaks and fractures. It was as practical as it was beautiful.

"I know... Each time we break, we are rebuilt stronger..." She quoted the saying among their kind with a sigh, her shoulders tensing in worry.

"Will it hurt?"

"Not at all, dear daughter. Come. We're all waiting."_

**_Thyngu kehn, or more simply, the Thai Fur Snake, more commonly still known as the Thai Dragon species are natives to the tropical regions of southeast Asia and the Pacific. They prefer the warmer, more tropical climates compared to many other reptilian species due to the additional warmth and moisture provided in the air, as their smaller, softer scales can easily become dried out if not cared for.

Their scales are by and large, however tough and resilient to scratching or dulling, with thick fur along their tails and ears that act to dissipate excess heat from their bodies, helping in careful temperature regulation.

Thai Dragons come in a large variety of colors that once were largely dependent on the specific region that the dragon hailed from. Typically, the scales are any variety of vibrant, primary colors, though purples, oranges and yellows are also common sights, with gold or silver metallic highlights that again, vary from region to region.

Physically, most Thai Dragons are tall and lithe, while maintaining very angular bone structures that account for the grace of their movements, and their sharp, well defined features. Their horns as smaller spikes along the length of their spines, and across their scalps, where two larger horns protrude, typically curving backwards.

Their horns however are comprised of a unique bone structure that makes them firm, but lightweight, and unfortunately, prone to being broke easily when colliding with something more solid. It is commonly held that this was due to their horns being their primary defense in their earlier evolution, breaking off both to impale an attacker with, and to prevent them from becoming stuck in their foe's flesh, thus trapping the dragon in place.

When this occurs, it has become practice to repair the horn by attaching it with something similar to the Japanese art of Kintsugi, by using a mixture of gold and other hardening alloys to bind the broken pieces back in place, while at the same time, strengthening the horn overall. Most see this as almost purely cultural, signifying the dragons ability to mend themselves stronger than they were, however, some males will go as far as replacing their birth horns with ones entirely forged of gold plated steel, both as a sign of status and strength. Many see this as more foolish than anything however, as the new horns are significantly heavier than the bone and gold traditional ones, and often unwieldy and cumbersome.

Magic is an uncommon occurrence among them, and even in families with a high number of prior magic wielding generations, often two or three will be skipped before another with any latent talent is born. However, when the gift is present, they quickly develop a strong grasp for it, and produce many fine mages with powerful abilities, able to influence the world with their whims at the flick of a hand.

Long lived, and well regarded for their wisdom and spirituality, the Thai Dragons have integrated with societies outside of their own, and can be found across the globe, indulging in an almost instinctive desire to discover and learn new things, collaborating their collective knowledge throughout generations within each family clan._**
