Bzzzzzzzzt!

Zeelo awoke with a start as his phone began to buzz. He blinked sleepily as he looked around his bedroom not quite awake yet. What time even was it? He found his phone and picked it up to check. It was 4:47 AM. Far too early to get up. Why had his phone even gone off? There was one alert from an app it was... Pokemon Go?

"Seriously?" Zeelo growled in annoyance a game had woken him up. It was nothing important. He prepared to roll back over and go back to sleep. As he did the game's music began to play on his phone. He realized he must have accidentally launched the app when he checked the message. Now even more annoyed he sat back up and grabbed the phone preparing to shut it down but froze as he saw the message that appeared on it.

'Legendary Raid Invitation.'

That was... A nice surprise if he was being honest. A surprise that would have been much better at a reasonable time of day. For now he would ignore it...

Except the raid was starting right now, at a location five minutes down the street from his house.

"You have got to be kidding me..." Zeelo could hardly believe his own actions as he dragged himself out of bed and quickly threw on proper clothes. The sun wasn't even up yet and he was about to run out of the house to play a mobile game. He didn't even know what legendary pokemon he might catch in the game. But he had never gotten one of the invitations before. He knew about them, it meant it was something he couldn't get in the normal raids. And so doing his best not to swear in frustration at how tired he was, he stumbled out of the house and down the street.

According to the game the location was just a few blocks down from his house. But it didn't make sense... The area it was pointing him too was just an empty field. There wasn't anything there that would have been marked as a gym! But... He was already up this early, he might was well investigate. He strode off the sidewalk from his neighborhood and proceeded through grass as tall as his shins. He looked down at his game to see if he was getting close...

Only to find the game was acting funny. He could see a gym inside the game where the raid was but the graphics were buggy. The entire gym just kept blinking in and out of existence on his map. Zeelo tapped his phone screen hoping he could bring the gym up for the fight. As he did he wondered if it was even worth the effort.

No one else was here. The place was abandoned. These invite raids were supposed to bring in a ton of people... But if it was this early in the morning everyone else may have had enough sense not to show up. He realized he was probably better off just heading home and going back to bed himself.

And as he had that moment he finally managed to click into the gym. Suddenly a message displayed letting him know the raid was starting. But... There was no place for him to select his team. And according to the screen it was only a one star raid! Hardly a legendary!

"Is this game busted again?" Zeelo sighed. Server issues and glitches weren't uncommon. At least that meant there wasn't a raid out here at this time by design! He was ready to leave now... But he couldn't shut the app down it was stuck on the raid intro screen as the timer closed down. As it counted backwards from 30 Zeelo noticed his phone was getting warmer in his hand. Worried the game was going to seriously harm the phone at this point he tried holding the power button, but the phone wouldn't shut down. Then the timer reached zero... And suddenly he felt as if his body was on fire.

Blue flamed erupted from Zeelo's phone and surrounded his hand. He let out a scream and tried to drop the phone, but he couldn't unclench his hand no matter how he tried! And inside the blue flames his hand was turning... Blue? Wait... Was that? He was growing fur! His eyes widened not believing what he was seeing. Meanwhile the flames spread from his hand up over his arm.

Fur grew in wherever the blue fire touched. Meanwhile what looked like two pieces of metal formed over the top of each of his wrists. The fire continued to spread and reached his chest. His shirt was burnt off of him mere seconds! His body was somehow neither harmed nor burnt... But the fur was growing in over his chest and black just like his hands! Some of the fur was black now, forming a scarf pattern around his neck and chest.

"What... What is this!?" Zeelo tried to shout. His voice was higher pitched than normal it didn't make sense. The flames meanwhile had enveloped his legs. As his pants burnt off he could see the same blue fur covering the lower half of his body. When his shoes and socks were burnt away he saw black fur covering his feet. But now there was more than just fur... His feet stretched out and he found himself suddenly standing on his toes as they started to look more like animalistic paws.

Zeelo's entire body was covered in blue fire now, and likewise his entire body was covered in fur. He shrunk down to just under half his human size, nearly losing his balance as the ground came up to meet him. Then his face began to push out into a muzzle. A blue tail forced its way out from the tip of his spine. His ears formed into a triangular shapes while... Something else grew out next to them. They were long and round, almost looking like dog ears. And as they grew Zeelo suddenly felt a new sensation. It was as if he had gained a new sense, separate from sight. It let him feel all the life in the world around him. The sensation of life everywhere was overwhelming! It blinded all of his other senses as everything seemed to be lost in a blue haze!

And then... Suddenly the blue fire seemed to sink into his body as if he was absorbing it. The sensation of being overwhelmed faded and Zeelo could see again... But the world was a different place... And not just because he was smaller, it was literally different.

The empty field was gone, now he found himself standing before a large building in the middle of a bustling city. People, who were now much taller than him moved past him quickly paying him no mind as they headed inside the massive building. It was like they were funneling into some kind of indoor football stadium. But... What was it? Zeelo could make out the words 'Eterna City Gym.'

"Ri... riolu ri?" Zeelo tried to ask where he was in confusion. But no traditional words came out. He looked down at his fur covered paws that passed for hands staring at them in wonder. He was so confused... All trace of who he was and where he had been were gone... The only hint of what had just transpired were the burnt up remains of a cell phone in one of his hands.

"Rioooooo." Zeelo shrugged. He had no idea what was going on... But he wouldn't get any answers just staring down at himself all day... And there was really only one place of interest to go from here. The new riolu slowly approached the doors of the pokemon gym.
