Si vis Pacem, Para Bellum. If you wish for Peace, Prepare for War. It means, if you have a bigger stick, nobody's gonna fuck with you. Now, Just as thay always have been since they were founded, Parabellum is the organization that has been renting the sticks. For every advance in weaponry, Parabellum has made a better version, then rented it to the highest bidder. Peoplle, weapons, Armour, Aircraft, Parabellum is a military in and of itself. More recently, when a government needs plausible deniability, they hire from Parabellum, or one of it's various front companies. One of their more profecient Mercenaries was a Russian by the name of Nikolai. He is a prime example of what Parabellum Mercenaries go through to become as deadly as they are. This is his story.

Nikolai walked out the doors of his school the overly confident wolven Senior rudely pushing Freshman out of his way as he made his way toward the sidewalk that led home. Just a few more months left in this damned school, he thought. As he walked down the street, he felt his backpack shift, and he took it off, and set it on the ground, and began to rifle through it, rearranging things to fit better. He slammed a few textbookson the ground, and then watched his breath fog in the cold Moscow air. The noises he made masked the rapid approach of the bleach white Van behind him, immaculately cleaned. The van stopped beside him, and three men, two in Russian police gear, and one in a business suit, grabbed Nikolai, and shoved a half facemask over mouth and nose, and the gas pumped into the mask caused Nikolai to pass out within seconds. The man in the suit calmly grabbed Nikolai's bag and books, and threw them in the back, along with Nikolai. Within seconds, Nikolai Boroklav no longer officially existed.

Nikolai was roughly shoved awake in what appeared to be a medical examination room, clean, sterile, and with extremely expensive looking equipment. He looked around, and saw several other teens, all around eighteen. A man wearing a labcoat, and glasses, obviously American, walked in, and asked in Russian if anyone knew english. Nikolai and several others shakily raised their hands, and a few of the SWAT looking men walked over to those they didn't know English, and slowly explained that they would translate into Russian. The man in the Lab coat up front began so speak, introducing himself in an east coast accent.

"Hello, My name's Doctor James Karman, and I'm pretty sure that you're all wondering why we nabbed you off the streets, right?" He paused for the translators to catch up.

"Well, I'm the lead scientist representing an organization called Parabellum, that deals in hired Soldiers, or Mercenaries. You are now inductee's into a new program that the Board of directors has approved to create the new face of Parabellum, project CARBON. One way or another, you will be part of this project, whether you like it or not." He turned on a projector on the ceiling, and an image projected on the screen, of a Peace sign, with the right side formed into a rifle.

"This is the symbol of Parabellum, an allusion to the Latin saying, 'Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum' from which we derive our name. The peace sign represents the want of peace, and the rifle represents the acheiving it through war." He clicked the slide again, and a uniform showed up, like those of the men who had abducted him.

"This will be your uniform, Black BDU's, facemask, boots, Thigh and shin armor, Combat best, and forearm armor." He clicked a final time, and a Human man showed up on the screen, who was absolutely huge, and looked like a professional soldier.

"This is Johann Gregor, the original CARBON subject. His bones are inlayed with experimental Carbon nanotubes, and his muscular structure has undergone several bouts of Gene Therapy, to make it more effecient and to improve reaction times. He is currently assisting the German KSK in counter insurgent operations in the Abrahm valley in Afghanistan." He clicked again and the projector shut off.

"I'm not going to lie, and not all of you will make it through your training or the CARBON operations. Between four and six of you will probably die in total. And don't bother trying to inform the Russian government, this is part of their agreement." He placed the remote in his pocket, and walked out the door, and the guards opened up a door on the other side of the room, revealing a dormitory, for both Male and Female inductee's. NIkolai and the others were shoved into the well furnished room, and the door slammed shut behind them. Nikolai took a bottom bunk bed bear the back, and heard some scuffles as people fought shortly over whose bed was whose. A Human girl, probably eighteen or so, climbed up into the bunk above him, and sobbed for a few minutes, as did a few others. Nikolai made no move to comfort her, as he was enveloped in his own thoughts. On the fast track to an Uncertain future, Nikolai and the other 23 teens steeled themselves for what was to come.
