Rising Anew -chapter 8 cont.-

Heavy drops of water pelted the roof and little puddles spread around in the valley. The leaves of all of the mountain plants reached high to embrace the rain. Birds sat huddled in their nests with their young hatchlings. Little mice scurried about in the underbrush, seeking out the insects resting in the cool dampness.

The lightning blasted the air with waves of sound a shortway up the mountainside. With a jolt, Tarsus shot up in the bed. Rubbing her eyes with her little paws, she looked around the room and reached for Narcenac's sweater. It was warm from taking the place of a pillow for her. Standing up slowly, the little squirrel walked over to the window, momentarily having forgotten the lightning, when another flash struck down the valley a ways. Running with a squeel and not paying attention to where she was going, the little girl slammed into the door with a resounding thud.

Narina sat up slowly rubbing her neck with a soft sigh of happiness. She looked down on Narcenac's sleeping body with a little grin as she remembered the previous night. Slowly she ran a claw over his cheek, enjoying the sounds of the lightning when suddenly it seemed like the whole wall shook with a loud thud. Screaming a little and jerking in suprise, her claw jabbed Narcenac's cheek and he sat up with a shout of pain.

"OOOWWCH!! Narina! what was that for?!" he yelped grumpily, as he tenderly rubbed his cheek. He looked her over as she turned this way and that looking for the source of the thud. He listened for a moment and heard a soft crying coming from the other room. "Is that Tarsus?" he asked quietly and climbed out of the bed.

Together the two young tigers made their way to the door slowly. Narcenac watched Narina walking and noticed she was walking a little akwardly. "What's wrong? why are you walking like that?" he whispered.

Narina smiled softly and replied, "You are the best, hehe, thats the reason."

The door creaked open slowly as Narcenac pushed on the boards. A soft sobbing came through the crack in the door as it came slowly to a halt against something. Poking his head in through the door slowly and peaking in, he looked down and saw Tarsus rubbing her forehead and crying. "Dumb dumb door, getting in mah way -sniffle sniffle- hurtin mah head like dat for no reasons." she said to herself as the door came to a rest against her footpaw.

"Are you ok Tarsus?" he asked softly as he slid through all the way into the room. He looked around quickly to make sure there wasnt anything that might have caused her to panic. With a soft grunt he sat down next to her, followed soon by Narina. "What happened to you?" he asked.

"Tarsus a lookin outta dat window, all sleepeh still, and big flash scara Tarsus real good, run like mah tell was on fire. dat dumb door got in way..." she snuffled at them both as she rubbed her forehead, her cheeks both red with embarrassment. Suddenly she realised that she was naked in front of them both and her blush grew tenfold brighter and she covered herself quickly. "Getta outta da room, needa get dressed!!!" she squeeked.

******************

Narcenac and Narina sat in the main room of the shack near the fire they had built in the Cast iron stove, quietly enjoying the feel of the warmth. Narina was leaning back in his arms, slowly brushing her tailfur and humming to herself while Narcenac slowly chewed on a peice of meat. Tarsus walked slowly out of the bedroom wearing her usualy dress and the sweater. She was as happy as ever and giggling happily as she walked to the door.

"We go out and getta movin now, Off we gooes!!!" she exclaimed as she opened the door to a blast of heavy rain drops. With a yelp, she shut the door quickly and turned around slowly, all of her clothes sagging with moisture.

"Well now, still want to get going miss soaky?" Narina stated with a silent chuckle, never looking up from her brushing. Narcenac looked over and shuttered with laughter as Tarsus made her way over to the fire. Sitting down with a huff, and holding the wet sweater out with a paw, she wrinkled her nose in annoyance. "Whatta we gonna do now!?! Too much rain outside, and nuffin to do insides..." Tarsus said with a groan.

Narina looked up at Narcenac with a smile and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Now now, there is plenty to do inside, you just have to know where to look. How about a story?" she pointed out.

The ever curious squirrel nodded happily and waited intently for the young tigeress to begin.

The rain continued on, oblivious to the happy trio in the small shack. Spreading a wealth of life throughout the valley. Happiness was clear in the air for all as the storm rolled onward.
