#3 of Short Stories

Felt like writing a short story with the previous image. I feel my writing style is pretty straightforward and I don't really "gush" much detail into a story. I hope you enjoy, even if it isn't smut that I keep staying on the fence about finishing and posting.

And again with the song I've been practically listening to on repeat for the past several hours:

"Super Psycho Love" - Simon Curtishttps://youtu.be/MS_NvcpdSNo

Super Psycho Love

Veronica waited patiently in the alleyway deep within a secluded section of the city. No one really met here near the abandoned libraries and apartment buildings. They were long in ruin and though it was vacant, water and other utilities didn't function like the other slums around. She kept her wits about her. Though it was an isolated space, there was the chance someone could mess with her in the night. After all, this was one of the preferable places to hold illegal activities, though, the nearest police station would be able to crack down in mere minutes.

The pink snake girl was losing patience. She had just finished clubbing with her friends and had been waiting for the past hour. The chill of the night was getting to her. A transparent dress was not the best apparel for outside. It did manage to score her a number of "friendships" with people. She enjoyed the attention, but it seemed she couldn't find someone she liked in spite of a wide selection of acquaintances.

A figure rounded the corner. A dark blue snake with a black shirt and jeans strode in, hands in his pockets and a stern look.

"Took you long enough." She spat.

He stopped just foot in front of her. "Traffic's always bad where I live. We could've met up some place closer you know."

"I needed a quiet place to talk to you. You never listen to me when there's noise."

He huffed and looked away, bitter at her. "Well, I'm here now. What do you want?"

"To talk. You've been harassing me ever since we broke up, and I can't take it anymore."

"Calling you about what's up on isn't harassment."

"Yeah, but every other day, and it gets on my nerves. Not to mention the texts you send every few hours or so. I don't need someone to be keeping track of my every activity. I already left my house because of it!"

"You know why do that."

"Don't say it."

"It's because I love you and care about your well-being."

"No, you don't!" She tossed a hand up, "You just want to use me as your sex toy! I can't be going to your apartment every day. Or cater to your every little fetish. I have a life. I have friends. There's more to my life than your two little two fish sticks!"

Max gritted his teeth. "That's not true. I've been supporting you for the past several months, giving you a place to crash, driving you around so you can meet up with your friends, even helped you get a job. "

"I could have done all those things by myself. I didn't need your help! Anyone can drive. I already have an apartment of my own. And it's not like I was struggling to make ends meat. Face it, you bring nothing to the table, and I want you stop thinking you're some big shot who deserves me because he can dominate me in bed!"

"Listen here you little-" he paused as he drew in inches near her face, "You and I both know we want more than just a mutual fling. You won't admit it, but I will. You haven't dated another guy after me, and that's because you can't find someone better!"

"I can find a better man in the next 5 minutes," she pulled out her phone and dangled in front of him.

His eyes grew red, almost fuming at that statement, "And who says I can't do the same?"

Her eyes slits contracted, "I'm not a hooker you moron!" She smacked him on the shoulder.

"I never said-" he could see a forming rage in her eyes. He knew her pride often got the best of her, "Listen, even if_there were someone else I could be with. I'd rather be with _you. There's no one else who made feel the way I did with you."

"Oh, you can cut me the 'one and only' crap!" She raised a hand to his face, "I'm sure there's some other girl, twice as crazy as I was that would easily become your next girlfriend. You're just too lazy to look! Or maybe you know you can never score more than drugged gutter trash. In fact, I'm sure you never got laid without getting a girl drunk!"

His heart snapped. "You know damn well that isn't true!" He pointed at her, recalling the nights she spent at his place, completely sober. "You were wide awake and aware of what we did to each other!" He stepped forward, backing her into the wall, "You liked it just as much as I did, and you kept coming back for more! Now look me in the eyes and tell me you didn't!" He loomed over her, spreading his arms and confining her between him and the wall. With a bloodshot gaze he stared her down, his maw gently open, panting at the crazed heat within himself.

She felt her heart racing with fear. It was a bad idea to come here alone. But she didn't want things to escalate. "I did." She spoke softly. "But not anymore."

He froze for a moment. Still she denied her feelings, even though they were alone.

"Now let me go."

He noticed how far he had gone, trapping her in a cage with his own claws. Every time he sought to be with her, he had only thrown an obstacle for her freedom. He didn't deserve her. She was a rare beauty in this gloomy city. Her vibrant eyes were brighter than the lights. Her scales glowed a flush fuchsia in the moonlight. She was perfect in her eyes.

They shared many fond memories in the time they were seeing each other. It felt like nothing would drive a wedge in between their relationship. They were close friends from he could remember, but one day. She just stopped responding to him altogether.

And now that he was with her again, how could he let her go?

"No." He spoke, his eyes drifting to the wall beside.

"Excuse me?"

He looked at her again, his eyes slitting up like a predator. "I won't."

She motioned to go under his arm but found him move along with her. She gave him an annoyed look before bolting the other direction, but he cut her off quick as a flesh.

"Max, stop. You don't want to do this."

"Do what? I'm not letting you go until you give me an honest answer."

"I already said I don't want you! I'll never want you! Just leave me alone!" She threw a punch into his jaw, cutting his lip and making a break for the exit.

He staggered backward, but quickly threw himself into her as she attempted to escape. He braced her back with his arms as they collided with the wall to which he was rewarded with a punch to the belly. He tanked it and moved to block her path.

"Get away from me you psycho!" She yelled.

"Yes, I am a psycho. No, I'm not going to get away from you."

She pushed forward, attempting to knock him over. He planted his feet and caught her by the wrists, the two began struggling to push the other back.

"Please! Just stop! There's no need to go through with this Max! Just let it go! I'm not in love with you!"

As if talking only strengthened him, she felt herself losing footing and being pushed back into the alleyway.

"But, I'm crazy in love with you. ." He locked her arms and gradually pushed her back until they reached the wall. "You drugged me, babe. And I'm addicted to you. Nothing will ever come close to what you made me feel. You have me hooked. But now, you cut me off. Left me an addict without a solution. Left me to writhe with withdrawals each and every day." A crazed quivering rattled throughout his body, his eyes grew ever so intense, true as he spoke, he was an addict, "And no, I don't want another romp. I want you. I miss you. Your smile. Your talk. Your eyes. I feel empty without them. So please, just say it. Tell me that you want me back."

She struggled to free herself, not saying another word. She eventually relented her movements, figuring she might injure herself trying to escape his iron grip.

He slowly eased down his grip, letting the blood flow to her hands once more. She wrenched an arm free and looked him dead in the eye.

He seemed calm, but the craze still lingered in his eyes. Nothing was going to get through to him. But she had yet to confirm if that were true. She reached down under her dress and pulled out a pistol, swiftly aiming it toward his chest.

He broke eye contact to see the firearm geared toward his heart. He gave a nervous chuckle. "Oh, you've broken that enough. I sure hope you don't have the nerve to hurt it even more."

"Let me go. Now." She threatened.

"And go back to being alone? I don't think so."

"You'll find someone else. Trust me."

"I've been searching for someone for years. I don't think I'll find anyone so beautiful as you. And believe me when I say it, I love you with all my heart."

She pressed the gun further up his chest, somewhere she figured it wouldn't be lethal. Before she could consider, he grabbed her arm and raised it toward his head. "Shoot me there and I'll only be back again. If you really want me to let go, then blow my mind one more time and end my addiction."

"I'm not gonna shoot you." She shook her head, finding his insanity unbearable.

"And I'm not gonna let go."

She jerked herself, refusing to participate in this game. "I mean it. Stop this right now!" She hissed.

"C'mon. Make a choice. Put your words to action. Get it through my thick skull."

"No!"

They began struggling violently on the wall.

"Say it again, I'm just another snake!"

"NO!"

"Tell me that you hate me!"

"NOO!"

"I don't care if you make it look like a suicide."

"LET GO DAMMIT!"

"I just want you to love me!"

"I DON'T LOVE YOU!" she spurted desperately.

"THEN PULL THE TRIGGER!"

"NOOO!"

"DO IT!"

"NOOOOO!"

"JUST DO IT!"

A primal rage entered the two lovers, detached from any semblance of civility, they wrestled a foot, hissing, screaming, and biting, until at last, a muffled blast echoed through the alleyways and blood shot up upon the brick walls. In that moment, they broke off. Veronica dropped the pistol from her claws and brought her hands to her mouth in shock.

Max clenched his head. His mind felt fuzzy. His body began growing numb, and the last thing he saw was her face before he collapsed backward near a puddle. Upon impact with the floor, his hand fell away, revealing wound beneath his jaw. The bullet met its mark, piercing into mouth, traveling through cerebral tissue and breaking out the other end. Blood spurted from the back of his head, gradually trickling down to a steady flow as he lay motionless, eyes wide open at last realizing the situation before fading to blackness.

Veronica screamed. "MAX!" Her body started trembling and she reached for her phone, as quickly as she could she phoned in for the police. The phone buzzed for a few seconds before failing to get reception.

"No, nonononono." She began to panic. She looked around and found a nearby dumpster. She quickly jumped on top of it, raising her phone into the air, hoping to get a signal. For a moment the bars remained empty, but before she could resigned to search somewhere else, it lit up. She sucked in a breathe of hope and dialed for the police again.

The buzzer sounded a few times before an operator picked up. "H~o, 9- wat- -ergency."

"Help! My friend's been shot!" She cried.

"- Hello? H-oooo? D-m prank calls."

"NO! HELP PLEASE MY FRIEND WAS SHOT IN THE HEAD!"

"O-? Som-*crick* shot?"

"Yes! I'm on... 41st Street and Quail! Please send help! I repeat! My friend was shot in the head! 41st Street and Quail 41st Street and Quail! My friend's been shot!"

"41s- and - uail?"

"Yes! 41st and Quail! Send an ambulance! Quick!"

"Al-ight... med-l -sponders- are- on their way."

"Can you identify-*fizz*person who shot him?"

She paused, scared out of her mind and unsure to confess. "I- I did."

"You shot your friend?"

Her lip quivered as the thought of becoming a listed killer welled in her mind, "Yes." She said softly.

",,,"

"We got in a fight, and... I shot him."

"Please hold."

Sirens blared in the distance, she stood up straight. Would they know where they were at? There were no lights on here. The street signs were all they could go by and the signal was spotty at best. She lighted off the dumpster and stood over Max's body. Was he dead? Could he be revived in time? Could the police open the gate that blocked them in the alley?

She didn't let herself stay still. Any second she could get might help Max survive. People survived headshots before, though it was a rare thing. She hoped her aim wasn't fatal.

She examined the fencing, finding a corner had rusted substantially. She proceeded to rend an opening in the fence. The sirens were blaring through the streets, but they were aways into an alley, finding them might be a challenge.

She turned on the flashlight of her phone and ran toward a main street. She saw the police car drifting around the corner and she began signaling them where to find the emergency.

The police exited out of the car. "Hands up! Hands up!"

She dropped her phone and made sure they could she was unarmed.

They approached, "Where's the shooter?"

"Eeee..uhh," she stuttered , "M-my friend needs help!"

"We can't rush in with the shooter on the loose."

"I shot him!" She blared.

"You?!"

"We got in a fight and I pulled out my gun and... Please, he needs help!"

The ambulance pulled up moments later, the responders exited the vehicle readying a stretcher.

"Where's the victim?"

"He's in an alley behind a fence. Hurry, this way!" She sprinted toward the alleyway, the responders following closely behind, the police keeping a lookout for a possible trap. Surely enough, they found the blue snake lying in the alleyway.

"Damn," one of the officers commented, seeing the pool of blood and the body stretched out on it's back with a blank gaze.

One of the responders squeezed under the fence while a third responder came with a wire cutter to break a bigger hole in the fence. Veronica clasped her hands together praying that her friend would be alright.

"He's been shot in the head," One of them stated. The other put a glove on himself and reached for Max's neck, "I don't think he's gonna make it. I don't feel a pulse."

"Please, you have to try to save him!" She cried.

"We'll do our best ma'am." He assured her. The others came in with the stretcher and a breathing aid to which they promptly placed him on and lifted him out to the ambulance.

"You're coming with us missy." One of the officers stated, escorting her out towards the police unit. She complied without resistance, entering into the back of the police cruiser completely shaken by the events. It crossed her mind the Max was dead. There said he had no pulse, and that last look in his eyes was filling her mind. She curled up as tears began to roll from her eyes.

All he wanted was her love. But she was too afraid to admit she felt anything after leaving him. She was proud to be a free woman, not tied to any men in her life. She could remember the fun times she had with him, the smile on his face. Did he really mean what he said? Did she really mean that much to him? She could see her memories in a new light. Every time she left his apartment, he watched her out. Every time she needed some little thing, he was willing to help her out. Those texts he sent, though annoying and numerous, were of genuine concern. He was full of a life when she was with him and felt lonely when she was gone.

She hated to admit it. But when she first met him, he had been a shy person, idling in the club unable to immerse himself in the party. She led him out, they spent time together, and they grew into close friends. He had grown more confident and expressive. Others saw him as a nice guy, but deep down, she knew his darkest secrets and desires. Only she was devious enough to delve deeper into his mind, but when she left. There was no one else he felt comfortable with sharing those feelings. Now that she thought about it, she didn't know of anyone that she felt so close to before either.

Guilt squeezed the length of her stomach. After all they had been through together, she didn't have the nerve to reciprocate her true feelings. She was afraid of a commitment, and the more he pressed, the more she tried to bury that fear. She kept it locked tight and would deny it until she believed that herself.

But now Max was gone, and what was worse, she was the one to end his life. She could remember squeezing the trigger in the chaos. It wasn't until she pulled the trigger that she was able to let go of her inner grudge, and it wasn't until he collapsed on the ground that he could get his mind off of her.

Was this really how it would end?

She looked up at the police officers in the front cabin. They were following behind the ambulance toward the hospital. She clung on to the one thin hope that maybe they could go back and fix this.
