Save Point: Exit Strategies

"It was a very successful experiment. The technology worked, it was possible to operate it on a broad scale without too much interference, and most of our non-powered enemies and potential threats have simply been erased. The local suppressors worked and none of us have memories of anyone who doesn't exist anymore-"

"-only because the medics were trying to put the twins arms back on and so they were standing right next to them-"

"-and we also know now what some of the issues are with operating it. Some natural situations also seem to suppress it or ground the effect. That just means we need to do better, bigger and far more precise engineering to achieve our final aims. The last step is not without an element of risk, but that's what the daggers and edged blades are for."

"We still don't know if they work on humans properly. I mean we tested it during the tournament as best we could, but that was just to finish off the weak ones who were already injured, since you insisted on making the strong ones the winners."

"They work just as effectively as any other sharp stabby thing on anyone. Don't tell me you're all afraid of a bunch of primitives. The Azatlani might have gotten there with a little more time and training once they understood what they were seeing, but we comprehensively hammered them."

"We still shouldn't do this without a plan."

"The last step is always where you trip. Just hold on and wait. I'll let you know when the moment is right and then we need to show them the audacity that will win us the world we want. There is strength in the breaking of rules, and this is the last of them."

"The Rama Empire seem to have deployed an experimental weapon on themselves. This mission is over. It's a technology they shouldn't even have had, but all the evidence of how they obtained it is gone, along with everything else. And here we were thinking that a nuclear exchange was their worst-case."

There is a furor around the board. The decision as to when to cut your losses and run from entire worlds was always going to be a painful one, but there are other timelines out there and they are far more attractive now that this one has been effectively de-civilized.

The extraordinary meeting that has been called, in light of what happened, has resulted in almost everyone who's anyone being called in to attend. Sethkill wouldn't have thought he rated highly enough to be invited, but they've cleared out the big meeting room so as many sethura can attend in person as possible, and the wider tele-presence space surrounding the outer walls is filled with most of everyone else.

Even Kilseth has showed up, which is remarkable, and may be why they've called on him as well, just to balance things up. Keselt also got an invite but has declined, citing the need to look after twins, an excuse that he probably can't stretch to cover himself as well.
