Rising Anew Chapter 4

It was raining heavily. It had been doing so for the past three days.

It had been four days since Narcenac and Narina had left Purrma's old house. The first day had been long as the emotions of starting their journey had set root in their minds. It had been spent in silence. Neither of them had wanted to speek, yet both of them knew what the other one was thinking.

"What was going to happen." "How long will we travel." These were just a few of the questions that floated through their minds.

The second day the clouds gathered in full force and poured their bounty out. Narcenac and Narina had found a small grove of trees a small distance from the road. They sat in the cover of some intertwined branches, letting the rain fall in sheets around them.

As they sat in silence, Narina slowly fell asleep against Narcenac's shoulder. Narcenac sat there feeling her breathing slowly against him. He couldnt help but enjoy the feeling. Having her sleeping under his watching gaze, it made him feel like a true man. It also brought him much conflict. She had slipped down and was now laying in his lap peacefully. She was so beautiful, laying there silently. He thought back to all the times they had spent under the mask of familyhood.

-The dark waves splashed all around her as Narina floated through the black tempest. The sea beat against her, washing her about like a peice of debree. Her screams split the sound of the screaming waves crashing all about. There was nothing she could do, her screams went out to an empty space. She was loosing hope of any type of rescue, and suddenly the water rushed up around her head, flooding into her mouth and eyes and ears. Then she felt a hand grab her own. Up, up, up she moved and she exploded out of the dark ocean. And, there, pulling her into his arms, was Narcenac. He was standing there with a small smile and she held him tight, thanking the heavens that he had come, he had come and saved her. She realised he was everything she needed and wanted in life.-

Narcenac put a hand over Narina's as she began to shiver slightly. He held it in his own for a long minute, then he lifted her in his arms and suddenly she wrapped her arms around his waist. He lifted an eyebrow in suprise, than held her closer as she slept on peacefully.

The next two days were spent resting and waiting for the rain to relent. Narina had spent her time brushing her tail and and decorating her clothes with the odd rock or bauble. She had not told Narcenac of her dream, though she had thought of it every day since she had it. Narcenac had tried his best to stay dry, and had even let Narina brush his tail too. He hated the waiting that the rain was making them maintain.

The morning of the fifth day finally arrived and with it the beautiful rays of the sun. The two young Necromanta rose with the sun and enjoyed the lovely after-storm smell that came as the warmth of the sunlight started evaporating the rain in the area.

Narcenac picked up his pack and swished his tail impatiently from side to side.

"Narina, lets go. The road is warm for us." he said with a defining swish of his tail.

Narina stood up and hefted her own pack onto her shoulders. With a last look around the small den that they had unknowingly created. There was loose fur from her brushing times laying in small tufts that had caught on branches here and there. Their scent was thick in the den. She doubted she would forget those few days spent there.

"Ok... lets go." she said with a sort of accepted finality.

The rest of the day was spent walking along a tired and dusty road. Very few cars would come down the road, but just to be safe, Narcenac kept an ear cocked to listen for the tell-tell sign of a muffler. He did not think that humans would take to kindly to the way they were now. For some reason he knew that something dangerous would happen if they were seen.

Narina walked happily onward. She knew that Narcenac was always going to be there to protect her. She had no worry in her mind.

While they walked she pulled her brush out and flopped her tail over her arm.

"How far do you think we will have to go?" she asked as she innocently brushed the end of her tail.

Narcenac smiled happily at the free wild beauty in front of him. For the first time in a long time, he was happy again.

"I am not sure Naree, but hopefully not too far." he replied.

"I cant wait to see Purrma, i am going to pounce her good. he he he, i can say i will pounce right, i mean arent we part cat?" she said between giggling.

Narcenac couldnt help but laugh at the bad pun.

"Yes i think you safely say that we can pounce." he said, chuckling to himself.

Suddenly the hum of a motorcycle filled his keen ears.

"Narina! Get off of the road! Now!" he shouted and grabbed her paw, pulling her into the trees beside the road.

The motorcycle came flying by just as Narina's tail slipped into the shadows. Narcenac sat down breathing heavily. That was too close for him to be comfortable with. Narina looked at him as the excitement of running slowly faded from her chest and her breathing slowed. She didnt know for sure whether the running made her feel out of breath or Narcenac's hand in hers.

********************

That night the wind was chilling. Narcenac had climbed a tree and was looking for a suitable place to camp for the night. A small clearing some ways off caught his eye. It would be good for them.

As Narcenac jumped out of the tree, he enjoyed the feeling of the short fall. He jumped from a good twenty foot height, but landed without even a hint of a stumble. He loved this body and all he could do with it.

"Show off." Narina said from the shelter of the lower branches.

He smiled slyly at her, "Jealous?"

"Not in the least bit. I can do it to you know." She said with a hint of a challenge in her voice.

"Oh well in that case you wont mind a race then." he said eging her on. "About a mile straight that way is where we will camp tonight, think you can beat me there?"

Narina grinned widely and took off in a blur of purple. Narcenac stood there watching her as she sped through the trees. He was still amazed at how fast they both were. The smile on his own face grew and he scrambled back into the trees. From there he sprinted along a branch and jumped, using his claws to latch onto another tree. "This was too slow." he thought. He walked out on a branch and focused. In an instant he took off again and jumped from branch to branch using all his focus to anticipate the next ones location. He couldnt help but think he must look like the characters from an old anime he had once watched.

He finally caught up to her as she continued to blast through the forest. On a quick whim he jumped out of the tree over her and landed beside her. Startled, Narina veered off a little, then realising it was him, she smiled and put on another burst of speed.

Narcenac shook his head, and then rushed to catch back up. Just as he reached her, the treeline broke.

They both came to an almost instant halt.

Narcenac's heart caught in his chest. "How could he have been so foolish." he thought as a feeling of dread creeped down his spine.

There in the clearing, was a pickup, and standing beside it, was a large man holding a very large rifle.
