Rising Anew, -continued-

"What are you doing in there?" he asked as he removed his shoes and placed them by the door.

"Making something that Purrma used to make, dont you remember the sweet meat she used to make for us?" Narina asked sounding somewhat perturbed.

To tell the truth, the smell was very familiar. Narcenac had never really liked the smell of the Tiger's Might dish, as his great grandmother had called it, but he dearly enjoyed the taste and sensation it used to give him. He hadnt had that particular dish since the summer before Purrma had gone missing. Sadly, it was the only way that he or Narina could eat fruits. He still wondered why eating fruit any other way made them terrably sick.

"I am going to take a shower if you are making dinner then." Narcenac stated as he quietly scaled the stairs to his room.

"Ok, but you may have to help me later, I sure am not Purrma when it comes to cooking." came the reply.

Narcenac chuckled silently. It was a well known fact in the household that Narina was no cook. It was about the only difference between her and their great grandmother. A difference he appreciated.

He silently pushed the door open to his room and walked to his dresser. After getting what he needed he stopped and looked in the mirror for the second time that day. Once again, those thoughts of being more than just another human became a torrent against his brain. Washing and flooding through his conscience like a tidal wave of emotion and longing.

Just as he was about to turn away, something in the reflection caught his eyes. In fact it was his eyes. He knew they changed color from their normal golden hue to a strange golden purple mix when he was nervous or excited. This was different though. They were nearly entirely purple, and he was neither nervouse or excited, but rather calm and thoughtful.

Narcenac blinked a few times, each time, they remained that brilliant purple hue. This was something strange. Only this morning they were the regular old gold he was used too. He decided that it was probably nothing and turned then walked to the bathroom.

Sitting at the table, Narcenac was overwhelmed by the smell of the Tiger's Might. It was so repulsive, yet so inviting. He allowed Narina to fix her plate first, and then his own. He sat there thoughtfully pondering his new eye color. It was exactly like Narina's and Purrma's.

"What is wrong Narcenac?" Narina asked. "You seem even more distant than usual tonight."

"I have just been remembering her..." he answered. "Her eyes were the same as yours you know."

Narina looked at him somewhat puzzled. Of course she knew this, but there was something in Narcenac's voice that emoted to an almost good mood, and those were rare. She didnt want to ruin this one.

Narina thought back to the time when Narcenac was happier. He had always smiled when he was with Purrma. She missed his smiles and his laughter. Narina hadnt heard Narcenac laugh in years now.

Together the two cousins slowly ate their meal, talking reflectively about all of the fun they had with their great grandmother. The things she had taught them, and most importantly, they talked about where she was now.

Neither of them thought she had been killed, or for that matter that she was dead. She was just gone...

****************

That night as he lay there in the sheets of his bed, Narcenac stared out of the window watching the stars. He looked at the constellations he could recognize and then slowly nodded to sleep.

"It is time for the new life to begin young kitten. Time for you to see what you really are. The tiger will show in this family again..." Purrma pronounced through his dreams. "It is time for you to begin to rise anew. Your heart has grown weary of this existance, have no fear and show no resistance. Time to rise anew, follow your heart, it will guide you true."

The chant slowly wound itself through the dreams Narcenac saw.

"Please Purrma, please dont leave me! I need you now." he cried out as she started to fade into the darkness of his mind.

"PURRMA!!! PLEASE!!!" Narcenac shouted as he sat bolt up right.

He looked up to see Narina standing in the door, shaking slightly and looking very upset.

"You saw her too, didnt you..." was all she could say.

Narcenac nodded silently, shaking and breathing hard. He had seen her, and so had Narina.

"Had they had the same dream?" he wondered to himself.

He looked up at Narina who was silently crying to herself. He waved her to the bed and made room for her to sit down. This was something they needed to talk about. He was not going to just hope it was another dream any more.

"What are we? what did she mean, 'Time for you to see what you really are.'?" Narina asked in a whisper.

"I dont know, I dont know what she meant." Narcenac said quietly, shaking his head.

After a few minutes of silence he had made a decision.

"I am going to her house, I will look through those books she told me to read when I was ready." he said, "Maybe one of them has the answers we need. Do you want to come?"

Narina closed her eyes for a minute and then opened them, determination etched into every inch of her face.

"We are going to figure this out together Narcenac." she said, determination pouring from every word.

"We will leave in the morning then. Try to get some sleep, ok?" he told her.

This was going to be a long process know his great grandmother. He silently lay back as he heard Narina's door latch click shut.

"What do your riddles mean Purrma..." he thought as he slipped into an uneventful sleep.
