Two things Kevin knew for sure was that being in a situation where two exes are in the sam...

Two things Kevin knew for sure was that being in a situation where two exes are in the same room and one of them is standing too close to someone else, statistics show that the other isn't going to be the happy camper, especially when Kevin happened to be engaged to Demetrius. Damien was just at the wrong place at the wrong time but Kevin couldn't help but feel like he was the one for causing this mess even when he was the one who stood close to the Tiger and put a reassuring hand on him.

It wasn't like Kevin was expecting Demetrius to come back, in fact he was supposed to be on his shift. Why is he back so quickly?

"Demetrius..." Damien broke the silence quickly after the silence felt suffocating, for being in a large room all three of them felt like they were in a locker, "This...This isn't what it looks like, I swear!" He emphasized the last words into a huff.

Kevin knew Demetrius had an angry side but every time he was around the Husky, it was like Demetrius would keep the anger to himself. But this time the anger was written all over his face, his lips parting and revealing bright fangs that were sharp as incisor, a growl followed after, "Get away from him!"

Now, what happened next was something Kevin never expected, in fact, it's something Damien wouldn't have expected either. Demetrius only had to take two wide steps to grip Kevin's shoulders and rip him away from Damien, sending Kevin back a few feet and onto his behind before the Husky stood in front of Damien, his claws showing sharp and fur standing straight. Kevin let out a shudder as Damien and him both stared at the Husky, hearing the soft sound of what sounded like a motor but it was Demetrius' growl.

The awkward locker grew tighter, suffocating the air every time someone took a breath. "Don't... touch him. No one touches him on my watch, NO ONE!" Demetrius took a step forward, spreading his arms wide to act as a barrier in front of the Tiger.

Clearly, Kevin thought, Jealousy is a bigger bitch than I imagined, "Demetri--"

"Don't call me that! It's Demetrius to you." The locker tightened more.

"Demetrius..." Damien stepped forward, his voice worried.

"No Damien. Enough, I don't want to hear it right now."

Damien's ears fell to the sides a bit, as if a bully would beat his victim relentlessly and he was watching. So why did he feel like the victim? Why did he feel like this was his fault instead of Kevin's? The Human wasn't making a move on Damien; he was reassuring the Tiger...Right?

"Demetrius," Kevin managed to get out those words but fell silent once after Demetrius took a step forward as a warning, forcing a growl out of his mouth before backing off. For once since Kevin met the Husky, he was scared. Demetrius' eyes looked around the room before heaving a long sigh, turning to look away from Kevin and at the Tiger's own worried eyes.

Damien stared at Demetrius for a few seconds before feeling the locker finally squeezing too hard, suffocating him as his gaze was kept on the Husky's way too long. Flinching, he quickly lowered his gaze downward and gasped in air when he noticed the golden chain hanging like a V shape down his neck and under his chest armour. But he recognised the gold sparkle...

He scoffed a sob before his eyes felt like they burned too much that they filled up with tears, "Oh god!" He brought a hand up to his face, stepping away from the Husky. The memories of that necklace coming back to Damien's head immediately, it all felt to nostalgic for him. The laughs they had, the dinner, the training, the patrolling together, and even the nights of... Damien sobbed again at the last thought and felt the tears burn stronger. Why was this so hard? It's been over between him and Demetrius for four years! Why now? Damien finally got over Demetrius a few months after the break up and it was hard considering the food he went through at Eugene's bar. Say it what you want, but Damien was a drama queen sometimes.

"Damien?" His glacier eyes sent shivers down the Tiger's spinal cord, making the familiar out-of-breath sensation come back to Damien. Just like when they first met four years ago, "What's wrong? Damien I know that look in your eyes, tell me what's wrong."

Damien felt the tears slide down his cheek; the salt smell filled his nostrils. The words were there in his head, 'I still love you, you idiot!' but clearly he couldn't let his mouth from the words. Once again all he could do was for another horrible sob and take another step back, letting the wet rivers drain down his face and avoiding the Husky's look which chilled through his body like a whip cracking against bare skin. Demetrius, stubborn as he always had been, took a step forward and called Damien's name again, trying to extend a paw to rest on the smaller Tiger's shoulder but was rejected when Damien took one final step back, feeling himself hit the wall from behind. Demetrius took that opportunity to move closer, his muzzle inches away from the Tiger's and his two paws on both sides of Damien's shoulders.

How tight could this locker go? "Damien, please tell me... you can trust me."

Fortunately Damien could trust Demetrius. Fact, he could do more than trust, he could love. But Demetrius was the problem in that word, it seemed that 'Love' was a huge issue and an absolute problem for him to act and say verbally. He always struggled with it, sometimes had to think for too long to get the words out and yet he and Demetrius said 'I love you during their moments of ecstasy. What went through the Husky's head was 'Love is a word too powerful. Only married or engaged couples know it...'.

So that brought the next question, if love is so hard, why did Demetrius say it to Damien during their nights together? Sure, Damien thought, I'm sure everybody says it during their special nights together. But why did he sound like he meant it?

"Damien?" The Husky brought him back to reality, "Would you, for the love of god, tell me what's wrong!" He was sounding impatient.

"I love you!" Damien yelled through his fangs and looked through the glacier eyes, "I love you, god damn it, what else do you want me to say? I've still loved you ever since we broke up? We I do! You hear me, Demetri, I. Love. You!"

It was Demetrius' turn to step back, mouth gapped and glacier eyes feeling like Damien's eyes burnt fire through them. As usual he was cut off guard with the one bloody word, 'Love'. Damien knew the words stuck home to the Husky, but he had to hear it... Right?

"Demetrius?" Damien took a step forward but never got a response from the Husky, "Damn it Demetrius! This is embarrassing. Say something!" If the moment hadn't felt too tense from the locker squeezing the air around them Damien would have stomped his foot on the carpet.

"Damien... I..." Everything felt reverse now that the situation shifted to the opposite person, Demetrius was Damien and Damien was Demetrius, "I don't... I'm... I mean--"

"DAMNIT! What do you want from me, Demetri? I told you what the problem was, what are you going to do about it?"

If the moment felt corny, Demetrius would have to be the corniest of all the anthro's in Arella. Sucking in the oxygen he needed, his stomach twisted upside down as he pressed forward, grabbing Damien's arms and pushing his mouth against the Tiger's.

For the first in four years, the spark of feelings ignited the flame of love.

Again.

He tapped his fingers against the chairs arm rest, resting his head on his paw as he stared across the large throne room, boredom taking its toll once again. As it may seem to King Alexander the day had been starting out quite like any other, villagers requesting the King's presence for requests of more food, more land or more for the children to play with. Granted the King would like gifts in return, of course.

But to the King's self conscience he wasn't paying attention to the villagers of Arella, he was more focused on Demetrius and Kevin. Alexander couldn't help but remember the week before their incident, where he and Demetrius sat in the dining hall with a couple of drinks, talking about their future plans of the promotion Demetrius was about to be bestowed on. The promotion was a big one to Demetrius, fact; it was one of the best opportunities one could possibly imagine. The promotion involved being the head commander of the Elite Royal Guards, the Kings personal guards which got the opportunities of being at Alexander's side every step of the way. It was something of the high ranks of being a knight that got all the royal guards in Arella to fantasize about, and the thought of actually becoming an Elite Royal Guard was something one could dream about.

And to be Commander of the Royal Guards was one task no one was able to get, it was a chance in a life time. As the King told Demetrius the news, the Husky couldn't help but get off his seat and walk in a small circle, ranting and ranting about the excitement. Alexander never saw this side, and liked his enthusiasm.

"But, there is an exception I've been meaning to tell you." The King broke the ranting and spun around in his chair to look at the Husky, catching Demetrius' eyes when he stopped walking in circles to actually pay attention to the King.

_ "And what would that be?" He asked as he took a breath to calm himself, returning to his seat and taking a gulp of his drink._

_ The King sighed and looked around, trying to avoid his gaze, "You can't have anything to do with love. That means no touching, no kissing, no playing, and no sex. So be prepared to not be committed to someone, because your life will be mine."_

_ The King emphasized 'Playing' and 'Sex'. Demetrius couldn't help but lower his ears and look away, "Like I was getting all of that anyway." He muttered and managed to put a grumpy edge in his voice. The King noted that._

_ "Listen Demetrius," the King took a drink and looked back, "You should be over Damien by now. It's been four years now and I'm pretty sure Damien is over you, he's probably got himself another bugger to fool around with while you, well you get an opportunity of a lifetime. It should be a win-win situation for both of us!"_

_ Demetrius practically held back a punch at the King's words which made the Husky burn and hurt on the inside. The King had no respect for other people other than himself and his greed, Demetrius thought that was how the King was raised to believe. Rumour around the castle is that King Alexander was a rich kid who practically bought everything to make his life better, which in fact was a lie because Demetrius has seen the King intoxicated, and found out he likes to spill the truth._

_ Then again, the King was right about the other thing. The opportunity was something no one could imagine having and it finally became reality to Demetrius. Finally, something in four years was a great thing to think about._

_ "I've never--and will never--love another male. Nor will I love again... I swear an oath." Demetrius sighed and looked at the King, who was sipping more of his drink and smiling like a kid getting a new toy, Demetrius hated that._

_ "Well good!" The King raised his voice with a lazy slur that was almost hard to hear to verbal word, the booze were finally taking their place in his system, "It's not like you had plans of getting married or anything."_

"My lord?"

The King stopped staring blankly and slowly lowered his gaze down the long steps to find Humphrey--standing with a straight posture and hands held behind himself, pushing his chest out forward to look sophisticated. The Rat was wearing the usual straight black pants, which the servants put into hot water and steamed to get the wrinkles out, and shirt and bow. As much as for fashion went with the Rat, Alexander had to admit for a fifty-something year old he sure knew his taste of casual clothing.

Though this time Alexander saw something the Rat never had on before. A smirk, "I believe our problems with the Human may be resolved."

The King raised an eye ridge and listened closely.

"No," Damien had to push Demetrius away from their moment of passionate kissing, turning his head to the side and avoiding Demetrius' lips, "I can't do this..."

"Why not" The Husky pulled Damien closer and slowly moved his head to follow Damien's, trying to get his lips to lock onto the other so they could resume their four years of lost passion.

Damien sighed and opened his eyes, "Because I'm the leader of the Kings Royal Guards."

Demetrius' legs felt too weak to hold him up as the shorter Tiger's words bore deep holes into his heart. At first life was starting to get better after their moment, and for a minute Demetrius actually thought they would keep going and going until their bonds would light up again, starting over like four years ago.

But as the high hopes flew up into the sky, Demetrius felt like they took a sudden turn downward. Plummeting toward the earth.

Like a Burning Phoenix.
