#7 of Two Worlds (Finished)

"Stop asking!" Demetrius growled and almost threw laundry at Kevin as he changed insid...

"Stop asking!" Demetrius growled and almost threw laundry at Kevin as he changed inside his closet, switching his baggy clothes into knight's armour. His shift was starting soon so he had to be ready for, yet, another eight hour shift. He poked his head out from the door frame and Kevin could make out Demetrius not wearing a shirt.

"But Demetri, c'mon, why won't you tell me! I want to know what this Double D thing is." Kevin begged and paced the bedroom, hands behind his back and eyes darting the floor.

"Well too bad, you shouldn't get into business that isn't yours!" His voice was rough as cement and cold as his eyes. Why is he being such a baby? Kevin thought.

"But we're engaged!"

The room fell silent then, all that was heard was the slaves outside the open window, working in the castle garden and getting the food needed for the dinner that was being prepared for tonight's feast. Kevin took the silence as something that made Demetrius pause and stare in utter disgust. But instead, Demetrius walked out and finished tightening his armour straps, looking at Kevin in the process, "But you don't want to be engaged. I thought you never swung that way." He looked like he won an argument, knowing he was going to win and was clearly bored.

Kevin stepped back and felt his face burn with red, "I don't!"

"Then there is no point in telling you my personal life. Have I ever asked about how you failed that test with a thirty-six percent? Telling your parents you passed it with 'flying colors.'?" Demetrius obviously wasn't paying attentions to what he was saying, Kevin looked at him strangely.

"How do you...?" Kevin gasped and took a step forward this time, "You know my secrets too!"

Demetrius mentally kicked himself, cursing mentally and avoiding, "Well obviously, we're engaged!"

Kevin stared at him and scoffed, "I don't see what's so wrong in telling me about Double D--"

The door knocked and both of them stopped in their words to look at the oak wooden door with black metal hinges and door knob. There was silence filling the room again and Kevin gulped, hating silence because it just left everything awkward. Another knock and Demetrius cleared his throat, "Y-yes?"

"Demetrius?" Damien's Voice sounded on the opposite side and Demetrius immediately went tense, the Tiger's voice sounding scared, "Uhm, your shift is starting in a few minutes. May I come in?"

Demetrius looked around the room, hesitated, and looked at Kevin who shrugged and gestured to door. Demetrius stared for a few seconds and looked back at the door, afraid now. Why is he hesitating? Kevin thought.

"Demetrius?" He called again, his voice lower.

The Husky snapped out of it and walked across the room, turning the door knob and opening the door wide enough for Damien to see Kevin, "Yes, Damien?"

Damien's eyes met Kevin's and smiled, "Uhm, the King has ordered someone to watch Kevin while you would be on your shift, since humans aren't trusted in our world. I uhm... offered."

"Why you?" Demetrius said immediately, "I won't allow it, no. I'll stay here if I have to."

"But your shift--"

"Forget my shift. I won't allow my--you to watch him!" Demetrius changed his words... what was he going to say?

"Demetrius..." Damien looked hurt, stepping an inch forward and glaring his golden eyes into the Husky's; from Kevin's point of view it looked Damien wanted to put a hand on his face, "It's the King's orders. Please don't make the King make you suffer the punishment... I won't do anything, I promise." Damien said the last part in a small whisper, almost audible for Kevin but he could make it out.

Demetrius stepped back an inch, "Fine!" He snapped, his voice sounding hurt. Spinning on his heels he grabbed his sword off the table and strapped it to his belt, looking into Damien's eyes as he passed him.

Kevin noticed a connection between the two. But what kind?

"Well looks like it's just us, kid." Damien took his belt and slid it off his waist, its golden colour sparkling with the morning sun, "Want to play some chess? Are you hungry? Would you like me to get you something? I make a pretty good--"

"Damien!" Kevin sounded frustrated, and Damien looked a bit shocked at the gesture from the human. Through Damien's eyes Kevin walked towards the Tiger with a slow, suspicious strut. Eyes Kept on Damien's and mouth hanging open a few inches, Kevin was standing just inches away from Damien. Damien had to look down at the Human when he took one last step closer; Kevin was now literally a hair distance away from Damien.

Damien could smell Kevin. Smell his fear and bravery at once that it just overwhelmed his nostrils. He promised Demetrius he wouldn't do anything. Not with Kevin. He promised!

"K-Kevin. I can't go through with--" Kevin reached up to Damien's neck, pulled the chest armour down enough to see the golden a chain he was so suspicious about. He stared as he pulled it out from under the plate armour, caressing the D shaped gold in front of his eyes, "Kevin, what are you doing?"

"What is Double D?" Kevin asked bluntly.

Damien's eyes looked like they were shinning from tears filling the distance across. Damien blinked the tears away and looked at Kevin, "How did you find out about that?" Damien was tense, Kevin felt it.

"I had a dream about it... About a Double D thing that you a Demetri had. Was it a superhero thing?"

Damien's heart felt like it shot through his rib cage and the sweat drops that rolled down his stomach fur felt like it was the blood falling out of the wound, "Demetri?" The tears formed again, only more followed and Damien couldn't hold it. Damn, he thought, be a man! Men don't cry! But the tears kept falling, and a sob was burning to shoot out of his mouth with it, "He only allows the people he trust say that... I used to say that name..."

Kevin put a hand on Damien's arm, "What are you saying, Damien. C'mon tell me... please."

Damien stared at Kevin's eyes for a few more seconds before sighing, "Alright," He said softly and inhaled a long breath, bracing himself for the words that were going to burn on their way out of his mouth, "Double D is two necklaces that me and Demetrius wore together. They stood for, Damien and Demetri. We were... in love." The room fell silent as Damien finished his sentence with a long hard cry, Kevin felt like an idiot for making this happen. Sniffling a bit, Damien continued, "We were in love and we were happy. We knew each other as kids and we felt a bond between us when we were twelve. Then we dated when we were 17. But when the King found out about us when we joined his royal force, he made us break up. Demetrius forgot to tug his necklace--that I gave him--inside his armour and the King got mad and tore it off his neck. The chain tore his skin and he bled slowly, but he was okay. It wasn't serious. Anyway, the King took the necklace and threw it out the open window. Out into the garden full of vegetables. It was lost forever. And all these years it's probably still there. Demetrius never talked to me the same way he did when we were together, but he knows I'm still the same old me. But he just wants to forget everything about us and go back to a normal life... I kept my necklace ever since."

"Then why does Demetrius have the same necklace on?" Kevin said after.

"What the hell is going on here?" Barked Demetrius; standing in the door way with a face so angry that the ice cold eyes board holes into the two close figures in front of him.

One thing was for sure to Kevin at the--once again--awkward moment.
