The cargo bay was empty, except for the boxes of food and equipment, and rodents and insects. One of the rodents, a space rat, 10 inches long from twitching nose to the tip of its tail, was scurrying along the wall, in search of food. She sniffed the air, aware of any sudden change in the ships normal daily aroma.
Something was amiss, strange new scent, feline. Squeaking, the rodent looked left and right, trying to pinpoint the source of the smell. But she couldn't see anything. Running further along the wall, she turned left down between a piles of boxes.
Suddenly, she stopped and sniffed again. The scent was stronger now, and to her right. But still there was nothing she could see. Heart beating faster, nose twitching, the rat sprinted further down the box corridor. Ahead was a hole in the wall, a ventilation shaft, and safety from the unseen unknown menace, which seem to be stalking her. Just as she reached 5 feet from the hole, something large and heavy landed on her, pinning her to the ground. Struggling and squeaking, the rodent was held by an invisible force, sharp claws held her body. But they were invisible.
Then sharp teeth clamped around her body, digging in deep and puncturing her lungs, breaking her spine and snuffing out her life. Her body went limp, held in the air by the invisible killer.
The dead rodent was carried down through the pile of boxes, towards to doorway, and the purple furred chakat materialized out of nowhere, tail high. Another successful hunt completed, shi thought, pleased with the result.
Reaching the doorway, shi pressed the button that activated it, and walked through once in was opened. Shi headed back to hir home, a small room, shared by 12 others, hir family.
Momma Snowy, dada Solar, Aunty Sunny, Aunt Tana and the Aunt Styphy. And of course hir 6 sisters, Firetail, Firespot, Dawnlight, Nightbreeze, Vortex and Sandshift. And of course... ummm oh yeah, Winterbreeze.
Shi was getting good using hir 'Ghost' ability, sneaking and prowling amongst the crew and cargo bays. Although, shi had to be careful not to use it that much, as it made hir tired and hungry.
Finally reaching hir home, shi touched the pad, waited, then walked inside when the door opened with a swoosh. Going to the kitchen, where shi knew momma was cooking dinner, Lunablaze walked in a plonked the dead rodent at hir paws, tail swishing happily, smile on hir cute feline face.
"Momma look." Shi chirped, poking at the dead rat with pride.
Looking down at hir daughter, Snowdrift just smiled. "Another one? Jeez, you are getting good at hunting rats, aren't you sweety?" shi replied, placing the knife on the chopping board and reached down and picked hir daughter up, giving hir a cuddle.
"Yup, that's... ummm ..." shi started counting on hir fingers, and when shi reached 10, started counting on hir clawed toes, and even when shi reach 20, shi proceeded counting on hir other paws. "26 momma 26 rats I had killed." Lunablaze meeped when hir mother kiss licked hir face.
"My brave little hunter." Shi said, petting hir child's white icy blue hued head of hair softly, eliciting a soft murr.
"Ok, dispose of the corpse and wash your face and paws for dinner, then you can watch some T.V. ok?" shi replied, placing hir down again.
"Ok momma." The 4 year old cub replied, picking the dead rat up and placed it in the incinerator bin. Once that was down, shi padded of to the bathroom, where shi washed the blood and grime from hir fingers and maw. Then shi headed to the lounge, where shi found hir 3 triplet sisters already there, playing in their pen, tussling and meowling as kittens would do. Sandshift was pouncing and wrestling with hir older sister Vortex, while shi in turn was grappling Nightbreeze, who was giggling and nipping at any body part that came into range of hir young sharp teeth, including hir own tail. When that happened, shi meowled in surprise and licked the sore appendage.
Lunablaze snickered and watched for a moment, remembering how shi was when shi was young like them. Shi had great fun with hir older siblings, especially Firetail, hir special sweet soulmate. Shi was 3 years older, but they were emotionally and mentally the same. Lunablaze was very mature for hir age, maybe it was due to hir mothers conditioning when shi was created, being genetically engineered and aged accelerated. Shortly after hir birth, hir momma and dada found a device that made hir "new", as they put it. And shi wanted the device to make her into a hermaphrodite, just like hir dada and hirself. And that was how the triplets were born, Momma, dada and Aunty Sunny all got each other pregnant.
Lunablaze turned the T.V. on just in time to watch hir favourite cartoon, shi sat down and watched the program, giggling and copying the lines from the heroes on the screen.
Soon, the door opened and hir other 3 sisters walked in, chatting and laughing, coming back from school. 7 year old Firetail saw hir soulmate and bounded over the couch and pounced on hir, kisslicking hir cheeks. "How is my favourite sis?" shi replied, scritching hir ears.
"Good, killed another rat." Shi replied, kisslicking back and rubbing Firetail's shoulders and back lovingly.
"That makes 26, right?" shi asked, sitting down next to hir.
"Yep." Lunablaze replied, smiling.
"Yuck" Dawnlight grimaced, "How can you kill rats? It's cruel and disgusting?"
"Easy, I'm a cat and they're a rodent." Shi replied, crossing hir arms defensively.
"But they're living animals, it's cruel to stalk and kill for amusement." Dawnlight snarled, standing over hir younger sister.
Lunablaze gave a low menacing growl before Firetail stepped between them both, shielding hir older sister from Luna's flash ability.
"Ok, enough Dawn, you had your say. You know Luna is still a cub and does what cubs like to do, stalk and kill like our ancestors did. Besides, I remember seeing you kill a cockroach once before." Shi said, looking at hir sister square in the eyes.
Despite being told off by hir younger sister, shi had to admit that hir argument was silly, in light of realizing that shi too killed for amusement.
"Ok, ok, I'm sorry, forgive?" shi replied, holding hir arms out to Lunablaze.
"Forgive." The young cub replied, enveloping hirself in hir sisters embrace, purring and kisslicking happily. Being left out the other 2 sisters joined in the hug.
Shortly, 3 more small taur furry bodies joined the hugfest, as the triplets, seeing their big sisters hugging, climbed the playpen barrier and clung to a large warm furry body each, purring as well.
