Eggceptional Getaway Erakir

When Erakir came to he became aware of how dark and cramped it was. It wasn't exceptionally difficult for him to figure out what had happened. It was far from the first time. And far from the first time at least one of the guilty parties had been responsible for it happening. Erakir tried to move around. The feelings of weakness only confirmed his theory. Yup. He was an egg. Or inside of one at least.

Honestly, he should have seen it coming. When he heard Calex and Trevor were working he would have guessed it would have been something like this. In fact that was probably why he went to check it out. Then as soon as he got to the barn there was a bright flash... And yup he was definitely an egg now. Well... If he was awake that meant it was probably about time to hatch, so he might as well get on that.

He began to try to rock back and forth inside the egg. Eventually something on his back snagged at the side of the shell and began to poke through. Realizing this he pushed harder against his backside as the egg split open and he tumbled out into the world.

Wherever he was... It was swelteringly warm. Yet that was almost pleasant. He could tell it was like being inside a furnace but his body was strangely comfortable with that. It didn't take long to identify the source of the heat. As for where he was... He and the remains of his egg were sitting on some kind of golden object... It was an enormous chair with a soft red cushion that his egg had been sitting in. A throne? It certainly was at odds with the rest of the room. A stone floor had been hastily covered with a soft rug. It was the type you saw in nurseries, the type that was divided into a red, blue, green and yellow square. Then the walls were covered in pastel wallpapers. Other than that, the room was packed full of toys and stuffed animals. Every possible toy Erakir could think of for an infant or toddler was present. There were blocks, one of those plastic lawnmowers with the balls, rubber animals, things he couldn't identify, and a crude doll in the image of a blond haired girl in a pink dress.

"Abwuh?" Erakir managed to ask. He wasn't sure what he had been expecting to find but this was not it. He also wasn't too surprised that he completely failed to express himself in words. Judging by the fact he had just come out of an egg he was well... Exactly 3.4 seconds old now. But what was he this time anyway? Erakir looked down at his hands, seeing that he did in fact still possess hands. They were covered in thick white scales and tipped with claws. It was similar to a dragon... Except there was something heavy attached to his back... That something had helped him break out of his egg. Squirming to get a better look at himself he craned his neck to see. He had a shell, like a turtle. Unlike a turtle though his blue shell had a series of several small spikes sticking out the back of it. Then it seemed like he had a short but lizard-like tail, and his feet were similarly scaled and clawed like his hands. He reached dup feeling his face, feeling the round snout that stuck out from it as well as the tuft of hair that stuck out from the top of his head.

So some kind of turtle dragon thing with spikes. He was a koopa? He looked down at the golden throne he sat upon. A royal koopa. Well, that was a bit different from what he expected from certain individuals. Well, he'd work out figuring out what was appropriate and how to get back at them later. For now he should probably focus on figuring out where he was and what he was expected to do now. He began to crawl towards the edge of the throne only to be interrupted by a loud rumbling noise. Two large red doors at the fall side of the nursery/throne room opened. Through the door strode a koopa without a shell. Instead the koopa wore a long blue robe and a pointed hat. It had large thick glasses that nearly fell off its face as its mouth opened in shock seeing Erakir.

"Young Master!" The koopa shouted. "Oh thank the stars! Your father would have been most displeased had you any issues hatching! He was very cross when your egg was lost! But let me personally assure you, the Toadies responsible for that have been punished! And of course we recovered your egg from those filthy fur covered creatures."

"Abaaaaaah!" Erakir crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes. He did his best to give the koopa a disapproving stare. He didn't know what egg had been lost... But he was fairly certain it hadn't been him. It was obvious there was some kind of mix up. Whoever's egg had been lost must have still been out there somewhere. Meanwhile here he was being detained when-

"Imagine the humiliation if the heir to the throne had gone missing." The koopa muttered.

"Bwuh?" Erakir paused. Did he say heir to the throne? His expression softened as his snout stretched into a smile. Whoever's egg was supposed to be here was probably fine. He was sure he'd make a better king or emperor or whatever they had than some random stranger anyway.

"So don't you worry young master! I, Kamek, will be at your side at all times to keep you safe! Well most of the time..." The koopa was still talking. "And I'm sure you'll be more than happy growing up in the castle. You'll have servants waiting on you hand and foot!"

"Abuuu!" Erakir squeaked happily. This was sounding better and better. Maybe he wouldn't be in too much of a rush to get back at those guys. There was no reason he couldn't enjoy the moment a little bit.

"And I have no idea why I'm talking to you as if you can understand any of this..." Kamek suddenly looked rather embarrassed as he rubbed the back of his head. "Maybe I'm a bit too used to having to explain myself to everyone. It's not as if you can-" Kamek stopped as he noticed Erakir giving him an absolutely deadpan stare. "Wait... Do... Do you understand the words that I'm saying?"

"Bwah." Erakir crossed his arms and gave Kamek an annoyed nod.

"T-that's amazing!" Kamek stammered. "To think you could actually understand every word I say right after hatching! You must be some kind of prodigy! Your father will be so proud.

"Abooo..." Erakir face palmed. He had a feeling that he was less a prodigy and more that his new kingdom was just filled with incompetent servants. Even if he hadn't actually retained his adult memories in this infant body he'd probably still be smarter than this Kamek person. After all... He hadn't even realized he had the wrong baby yet; a fact Erakir was in no hurry to correct. If he was going to be born into a kingdom run by incompetent morons there was no reason for him not to benefit from it. At least for right now... He might have other thoughts when he grew up again and-

And ascended to the throne. There was a fun idea. King Erakir. He smiled to himself at the thought. Yes, there were a lot of things he could do with the finances and army of owning his own kingdom. In fact, there were so many great things he could do he might not even seek revenge on the people who had put him in this situation. In fact, he might just take the very same kindness they had given him and pay it back. He eyes Kamek and studied the blue robes and pointed hat. If he had his own army of spell casters he could probably go forward with that plan and a lot more.

Yes, Erakir could get used to this.

"Well..." Kamek straightened his glasses and looked around. "I'll just let you be getting to it then."

"Raaaa?" Erakir tilted his head.

"Well I assume you have a lot to do, what with having just been born." Kamek twitched uncomfortable. "You know, growing up and stuff. So... Um I guess I'll see you in a few years when you're old enough to walk and talk and can actually reach the doorknob to leave the nursery."

"BWAAAH!?" Erakir sat up at this... Or tried to. He mostly fell forward and had to balance himself on all fours. "Abubwuuuh!?"

"Well we can't have you wondering around!" Kamek protested and waved his arms. "You've already been kidnapped once!" This was technically incorrect, but Erakir wouldn't have told the truth even if he could. "If you go missing again your father will have all our heads! So it's just best you stay here in the nursery where it's safe!"

"Bwaaah." Erakir shook his head and climbed down from his throne. He didn't it meant giving up being king, he wasn't going to just stay in this room for the next twenty years... Or however long it took a koopa to reach adulthood. That was simply off the table. He crawled right past Kamek heading for the large red door at the end of the room.

"Young Master!" Kamek pleaded. "Please you must understand it's for your own safety! You have to stay in the nursery!"

"Bwah!" Was Erakir's response as he continued to crawl for the door. It took several minutes. The entire time Kamek just slowly followed behind him fretting and objecting. Upon finally reaching the large red doors it became apparent Kamek's fears were unfounded. Erakir shoved his body against the base of the door but there was no way for him to open it.

"Ha!" Kamek laughed. "I mean! Even if you could open the door there's no reason for you to leave so that's that!" Kamek adjusted his glasses. "Your father will send servants to make sure you're fed and taken care of! And I'll check in when my duties allow. Now if you'll excuse me I must be going. I have very pressing matters to attend to." With that Kamek reached out a hand and touched the door. He then looked down at Erakir who was still shoving against the doorway.

"Abuh?" Erakir looked up at Kamek with a cheeky grin.

"You're not going to make a break for it as soon as I open the door are you?" Kamek asked.

"Pffft!" Erakir stuck his tongue out and blew a raspberry as a response.

"Well look you really shouldn't." Kamek flailed his arms. "I need to get going! And you need to stay in here! So step away from the door so I can be on my way." Erakir responded by sitting upright propped up against the door. "Come on!"

"Bwah!"

"I'll give you sweets!" Kamek tried to bargain. Erakir shook his head. "More toys?" Nope. "A music box?" Erakir considered that one for half a second before shaking his head again. "Well what else do babies want? There has to be something I can get you!"

"Abwuh!" Erakir did his best to put his hands on his hips and stare at Kamek.

"I don't know what Abwuh is!" Kamek screeched. "Look, you have to stay here that's all there is to it."

"Bwooo." Erakir looked down at his body as he considered his options of how he might negotiate further from here. Obviously he didn't have a whole lot... But he was pretty sure there was something children his age were known for. He smiled as he came up with his plan... Then he opened his mouth and let out a scream. "BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

"Young Master I must insist you desist the crying!" Kamek pulled his hat down over his ears.

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Erakir continued to shriek at the top of his lungs. The stone walls of the castle echoed his cries making him sound even louder than he actually was.

"You don't understand!" Kamek begin to bite at the tips of his claws nervously. "If your father thinks you're being mistreated he'll be most upset! Ohhhh I hate to think what he'd do to me! You have to stop!"

"AAAWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" But Erakir wouldn't stop. He was going to be a king one day now, and that meant his authority was absolute. That meant he didn't do what was asked just because someone asked or begged him. The crying would only cease when he got what he wanted.

"If I let him out of here the master will be furious..." Kamek fretted. "But if he keeps crying like this the master will be furious." Kamek tried hard to think of a way out of this that didn't end painfully for him. The fact Erakir wouldn't stop shrieking made it difficult to focus. He found himself nearly ready to scream... But finally one idea dawned on him. "What if... WHAT IF I GET YOU A FRIEND?"

"Bwoo?" Erakir stopped shrieking for a moment at the prospect.

"Then it wouldn't be so lonely right?" Kamek tried. "You need someone to entertain you! Someone you can push around! Someone that can take the blame for your own failures!"

"Aboooo." Erakir gestured with one of his claws as if saying 'go on.'

"Right! I'll get you one! Your own personal friend slave!" Kamek latched onto the idea now that he saw he had Erakir's attention. "In fact! I'll get one right now! It must be your nap time soon! So I'll make sure I'm back with one before you wake from your nap!"

"Abibru?" Erakir crossed his arms and fixed Kamek with a hard stare. He didn't move from the door.

"You can trust me to keep my word!" Kamek swallowed nervously under the infant's stare. "I promise! If I don't come back all you'd have to do is shriek again! And then..." Kamek turned and looked away. "Well... Your father would be most displeased with me. And he has quite the temper." He paused as he said it. "Not that I would ever insult him! No a temper is the sign of a magnificent and powerful leader! No complaints about that at all here! Heh heh heh."

Erakir stared at Kamek unflinching for a solid minute. It was fun having the little (well big from his point of view) wizard koopa begging and pleading with him. People who didn't have groveling servants had no idea what they were missing. Considering he already had this guy terrified minutes after hatching... Imagine what he'd have going once he could properly talk. Perhaps he'd go along with what he wanted for now. He was pretty sure the guy was a pushover and he could manipulate into giving him whatever he wanted in the long run. Didn't want to overdo it right from the start.

"Bwah." Erakir crawled a few feet away from the door then laid down on the floor.

"Thank you young master!" Kamek bowed down, practically planting his face in the floor. "I assure you that you've made a wise decision! I'll set out and find that promised friend for you right away!" Without wasting any time, and out of fear that Erakir might change his mind, Kamek rushed through the door and was sure to shut it behind him.

Now Erakir was left all alone in the nursery. Looking around there were plenty of things to do. Lots of toys and games... But no one to share it with... Or more importantly be seen using any of the stuff. Well... If Kamek lived up to his word that would be fixed soon. If he didn't... Well Erakir had a good idea of what his nightly entertainment might be.

For now he busied himself exploring the room. Finding a series of crayons, markers and coloring books he decided to start with those. He tossed the books aside and chose to instead draw over the walls of the room. Making a mess was way more fun when you had servants that would be forced to clean it up! But regardless of how exciting that aspect was... There was a lot of wall and only little him. His body ran out of stamina pretty quickly and he was soon ready for a nap. He crawled back to the throne at the end of the room and climbed up onto the cushioned seating. There he flopped down on his stomach and dozed off.

He had no idea how much time had passed when he finally woke. However as he looked around he became aware of the fact that he was still very much alone in the nursery.

That snake! Had Kamek failed in his mission! Or simply decided to lie! Well... Either way Erakir wasn't about to let him get away with it! And so upon waking he resorted to using the one weapon he currently had.

"ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAWR!" Erakir let out a shrieking cry that bounced off all the walls of the castle. He couldn't help but feel slightly proud as a few stones fell from the ceiling from the vibrations.

He prepared to give it a second go... But suddenly the door swung open and in came Kamek! He was pushing a baby cradle in with him! Erakir's eyes widened as he looked down from his throne into the cradle. Stuck inside was a small baby yoshi. It looked to have been recently hatched just like Erakir. What really caught his attention though were the yoshi's colors. A light cream colored orange. Erakir recognized those colors, and the doofus expression on the yoshi's face. He smiled evilly.

"Y-young Master!" Kamek addressed Erakir. "I've brought you a playmate!" He paused for a moment and then decided to add, "Forgive me for being late! But this stupid yoshi didn't want to cooperate! But I've brought you the promised playmate! He's yours to play with or beat up or whatever you want with!"

Erakir grinned madly realizing what was going on. And as the yoshi looked up at him he saw it recognized him as well. This was a development. If he could talk he might have even told Kamek he had done a good job. Instead best he could do was giggle. He was going to have so much fun with his new friend slave.

The End
