#1 of Bellatrix

So I'm not inherently a furry writer, I started with poems and fantasy/adventure fiction when I was... 12? 10 maybe, well somewhere around that age. I saw a post on twitter that linked to someone's stories and figured I could post some of my own writings here. I'm pretty new to writing stories mainly consisting of anthropomorphic characters so go easy on me. Critiques appreciated, even a little goes a long way. Thanks for reading. Both characters in the story belong to me.

Pockett peaked out at the busy roads from under a drippy storm drain. Water sprayed as motor vehicles passed by. The sky was a heavy grey and people were hurriedly moving towards their destination as to get under cover before the next wave of showers.

Pockett needed to get to the other side of town to the top of an apartment building.. and was not looking forward to the journey. She pulled the clear plastic hood over her head and hurried into the streets, keeping as far away from the edge of the sidewalk and storm drains as possible.

The storm had past but small scattered showers were left in its wake. A break in the clouds allowed the pinkish hue of the sunset to break up the murky grey for a few brief moments before being shrouded once again.

Bellatrix inhaled the cool damp air, her eyes flashing as she recognized the scent.

"Hello... mouse."

"How'd you know it was me?" Pockett asked wringing out the end of their tail.

"You're kidding right?" She said flipping an ear over her shoulder. "Your earthy scent manages to pervade. Even if you are damp," she said with emphasis on the last word.

"Why are you here anyway?"

"To check up on you. You always seem a bit moody in this weather."

"When am I not?" she muttered. "Why are you always 'checking up' on everyone?"

"I dunno," Pockett shrugged. "Maybe because no one ever really checked up on me."

Bellatrix threw the mouse a glance, but she was looking off in the distance at something and didn't notice.

"What are you doing outside anyway? I thought you hated the rain."

Normally she would have brought attention to the off comment Pockett made but they seemed in a happier mood than normal.

In response Bellatrix held up a paw. "It's not raining is it?" she remarked sarcastically.

"True, I guess it's not, but the ground is still wet."

Bellatrix just sighed.

"Am I pushing your buttons?" Pockett teased.

"When are you not?" Bellatrix finally looked at Pockett, flashing her teeth.

Pockett laughed. "You know you love me."

Bellatrix 'hmm'-ed softly as she turned her attention back to the skies.

They sat in silence for a moment admiring the shifting sky.

"It's getting late," Pockett finally said.

"The hunting hours," Bellatrix responded, her eyes flashing.

"You're part prey too, ya know," Pockett pointed out.

"All the more fun. But you, my small friend, are all prey," she said with a growl in her voice. Bellatrix's eyes slitted as she prowled forward.

"Think about what I went through to get here," Pockett warned.

Bellatrix stopped mid step and sat down. "Good point." With a big catty yawn Bellatrix finally agreed "It is getting late. Shouldn't you be getting back?"

"Nah, I'm not tired yet."

"I'm beat," she admitted.

"Probably because of the storm," Pockett remarked.

Bellatrix hissed.

"Haha, moody," Pockett teased again.

"Goodnight mouse," Bellatrix taunted.

"Goodnight cat," Pockett threw back.

Bellatrix smiled and reclined back against the fire escape railing as Pockett disappeared down the stairs.

"Goodnight mouse," she repeated to herself.
