#12 of mini story
"I'm cold!"
Tsume shouted as she and the group of kids were huddled up together trying to keep warm, why, because miss frizzle took the kids to Alaska to visit her friend
"Don't you just love the cold class"
"No! I wanna go home"
Tsume said shivering
"Miss Frizzle isn't there a place we can go to keep warm?"
Tim asked as she giggled
"Of course follow me class, single file"
She said and walking ahead of them as the kid's side step following behind her, they soon came to a wooden house when she opened the door the kids ran in
"Miss Frizzle, please make a fire so we can be warm"
Ralphie said a minute later everyone was covered in blankets and trying to keep warm with the fire
"Who's Bright idea was it to come here?"
Keesha asked as all eyes were on her
"Oh, oops"
"Don't be mad at Keesha class it was a wonderful idea for us to come here"
Miss Frizzle said
"You're so enjoying this aren't you?"
Tsume asked
"Yes, I am why wouldn't I?"
"I'm surprised you're not cold"
"I'm too excited to be cold at the moment, so who's ready to go out for a hike"
Miss Frizzle ask the kids
"You want us to go out there back in the snow?"
Carlos asked
"Of course how else do you think we'll be able to meet my friend?"
After a while of warming up, we strapped up on our winter coats and fall of Miss Frizzle to meet her friend
"This will be the last time I ever listen to you"
tsume said referring to Carlos
"How many times do I have to say I'm sorry I didn't know that this was going to happen"
"Yeah well you know you were the one who dragged me out of bed in the first place"
"But aren't you happy to be in school... I mean with me?"
"You're not funny"
soon they met with a woman a named Rachel as she is an Ornithology, she gave them the brief down about what she was doing and what her job does she also told them that all 17 species of penguins are found in the Southern Hemisphere and that emperor penguin is the tallest then all the rest. she also told them that baby penguins are called chicks and that they are gray and fluffy before they get their black and white stripes.
"Would it be alright if we did some penguin hunting?" Dorothy Ann asked her
"Of course just don't get too close, you're not going to like them when they're angry"
The lady said and walked away
"I had no idea that so many penguins work together"
keesha said as she watched the penguins dive into the water to get some fish for their babies
"I'm guessing the males are doing the fishing so the females can stay behind and watch their babies"
"Actually, both of them do the fishing"
Miss Frizzle said she explain to the kids that both parents take care of their kids
"But what if they only have one parent?"
"Then whether it's a male or female they still have to go out and get food for their young"
"Miss Frizzle Can we go back to the house now I'm starting to get cold all over again"
tsume said
"Here would you like me to help keep you warm?"
Carlos asked giving tsume a hug as she pushed him off her than miss frizzle hugged her
"hey"
"Penguins keep their babies warm and safe through the snowy blizzard"
"You don't say, can you get off of me now?"
tsume said annoyed
"Someone's in a grumpy mood," Wanda said
"Well you would be if you were dragged out of bed this morning and on top of things I'm cold"
tsume said as all the kids hugged her
"can you guys stop"
"come on tsume, if we stick together will be able to warm you up"
tim said as tsume sigh
"yeah I guess it's working a little"
"man I wish we had penguin feathers then we wouldn't be so cold"
Carlos said
"What an excellent idea Carlos"
Miss Frizzle separated from the kids and whistle for the bus to come, as miss Frizzle was doing that tsume had Carlos by the caller of his shirt shaking him until a laser hit them changing them into penguins
"I can't believe you did this to us!"
tsume shouted as the kids saw that they were penguins
keesha and tim were adult penguins and Dorothy Ann and Arnold were babies, Phoebe and ralphie were adult penguins and Wanda and Carlos were babies, miss frizzle was an adult penguin and tsume was the baby
"why me?"
Arnold said with a sigh
"Isn't it splendid class now we can experience the life of a penguin"
"change me back!"
tsume cried as miss frizzle cuddled her
"get off!"
"you're my baby tsume I have to keep you warm from the cold"
"but I have feathers so I don't need you"
"yes, but your Little feathers won't keep you warm all day long"
"this is embarrassing"
"hey look, all the penguins are leaving"
Wanda said
"that's because it's dinner time"
miss frizzle said as she moved away from tsume and walked towards the water
"come, class, we have to get food for our young as for you baby please stay near the bus"
she said as she left with, Keesha, tim, Phoebe, and Ralphie
"tsume play with me"
Carlos said coming over to her but got slapped by her flipper making him fall backward in the snow
"tsume I know you mad at Carlos but look at the bright side were learning what its like to be a real baby penguin"
Dorothy Ann said
"If I wanted to learn about penguins I would have watched it on TV"
tsume replied
"But why watch it on TV when you're experiencing it in real life"
Wanda said
"Now I'm surprised you're enjoying this"
tsume said to her
"By the way how long is it until they return?"
"According to my research for parents to fish for their young, it takes them about two weeks to come back," Dorothy Ann said
" are you kidding me?!"
" it's not all bad " Wanda said
" not all bad, really, will be stuck as Penguins for 2 weeks!"
tsume shouted
"look at me im making friends"
Carlos said as everyone looked and saw him being surrounded by other baby penguins
"Carlos! get away from them, they'll peck your eyes out!"
tsume shouted as she went after Carlos and pull him away from the baby penguins that were poking at him
"what's your problem, I'm just chilling with the baby chicks"
"Yeah until they decide that your food and want to eat you!"
"They're babies they can't eat me and besides where one of them"
"Okay go get eaten see if I care"
"...is something wrong?" he asked her
"No, I'm just pissed that you removed me from my only sanctuary of happiness and drag me to the forbidding cold Chambers"
"I thought you would be happy to get away for a while"
"Carlos, back home it was summer, here it is not, actually, it's never summer here at all"
tsume said as she tryed to find a warm spot to get warm, Carlos came over and cuddle her as she gave in and allowed it
"You know... During Christmas time you weren't like this"
He said as tsume looked up at him
"What are you talking about?"
"You were more... Gentle "
He said looking at her with a gentle look
"Shut up I told you not to bring that up"
tsume said looking away trying to hide her blushing face
"But..."
"Hey, you too what are you talking about?"
Dorothy and asked coming over to them as they immediately zip the conversation
"Nothing just talking about how we are enjoying the snow and trying to get tsume to enjoy it as well"
Carlos said lying to her they all huddled together as the wind started to get colder
"My mom isn't going to like this"
"Don't worry miss frizzle said that it was a week field trip "
"Great who knew a filed trip would last so long in the cold "
"Don't worry it will be fine....with me around" Carlos said with a smile
"Shut up Carlos"
a minute later when the wind died down the group return and they were happy
"Oh thank God you're back, turn me back now or I'll never step foot in your classroom again"
tsume said Miss frizzle laughed, she knew this woman Never took anything she said to heart, she guesses that's why she likes her
"Did you catch a lot of fish?"
Wanda asked
"Of course, we caught a lot of fish I wish you guys could have seen it "
Tim said
"It was like being in an underwater paradise "
Ralphie said
"Okay, that's all good and all but where's the fish? "
tsume asked Getting their attention as Miss Frizzle giggled
"It's in our tummies "
She said as she immediately knew what she was talking about and she knew where this was going to go
"On second thought I think I lost my appetite just let me die "
"You're so funny tsume there's no way I would let my baby chick die "
"Wait, hold on... "
"open up "
"NOOOO!!! "
tsume started to run across the snow screaming bloody murder, but she knew my little Stumpy legs weren't going to get me far. In an instant, tsume was grabbed by her tail and put on a rock as Miss Frizzle formed a snow table presenting to her fish food that was chopped up and sculpted into a tower
"im not eating that "
tsume said with my arms cross
"but you must "
"no! I don't care what you say im not eating that "
tsume, if you do not eat the food then you will be tossed out of the nest and left here to die
Phoebe said as she looked to her then to the others
"Didn't you know if there's something wrong with a baby chick it is left out to die "
"You're joking right "
"Actually, she's not, just be happy that you weren't stolen yet "
Dorothy Ann said
"wait, what?"
"According to my research, Fights break out as mobs of broody mothers struggle with each other to steal a chick from another penguin family. Kidnappings last from a few minutes to a few days. Most end with the chick being abandoned to die in the cold. "
"well, I've always said you learn something new. i'll take that food now "
tsume said a prayer before she started eating the disgusting fish.once that was done with everyone started to play with each other as they ran around and play tag, heck they even learn to swim. they also learn that a penguin's enemy is a leopard seal, which tsume didn't think it could come up on land and chase Carlos who was trying to protect me acting all Macho. penguins aren't without protection though Their white bellies blend with the snow and sunlight making it difficult for an underwater predator to see them.
"So class tells me what you've learned today?"
miss Frizzle asked
"we've learned that penguins are birds with black and white feathers "
Wanda said
"I've learned that penguins can survive one hundred twenty degrees Fahrenheit below zero and that they have a layer of fat under their skin called blubber and that they eat fish and krill "
Phoebe said
"Baby chicks are cute but the females go out to get the dinner while the daddies stay behind to watch Them "
keesha said
"There are 17 species of penguin, each slightly different "
Dorothy Ann said
"Emperor penguins are the largest penguin species. They are nearly 4 feet tall and weigh up to 90 pounds. Those are BIG penguins!"
Carlos said
"My favorite is the king penguin, The King penguin is the second largest penguin and looks somewhat like the Emperor penguin. They are about 3 feet tall and weigh up to 35 pounds. King penguins have orange spots near their ears and on the neck."
ralphie said
"What about you tsume what did you learn about penguins? "
"Other than penguins are pure evil stealing each other's egg for no freaking reason just because they couldn't have their own...yeah penguins are somthing else "
tsume said as everyone looked at her
"that is sure putting it to words"
miss Frizzle said
"Glad you agree can we be human now, please? "
she begged as she laughed she called the bus over that changed the kids all back to normal
"it's good to be back to normal "
tsume said with a sigh as they all got on the bus
"man tsume you were really cute as a baby penguin"
Ralphie said
"I'm going to ignore that you said that Ralphie and pray that you don't say it again "
she told him as he backed away
"hey, tsume can we talk later?"
Carlos asked
"no because of you im mad now "
"but I didn't..."
"yeah I know but still no"
"Cuz I was like..."
"no!"
"get ready for our next adventure class "
she said and started the bus i guess going home wasn't an option
