Chapter I: So Long Sergeant Saber

***24 hours until Sergeant Saber retires***

Sergeant Saber, a sabertooth tiger, sits in his squad car drinking coffee with his partner Jennifer, a female vixen. Both stare down the street at the scene ahead. There are other citizens walking about, but that's not what gets them. It's the beautiful morning sun that's rising ever so slowly. The pair breathe in and exhale slowly.

"Ah, I'm going to miss this view when I'm gone," says Sergeant Saber.

Jennifer turns her head. "You could always come down here when it's not so busy."

Sergeant Saber laughs. "No offense, but I'd rather be in bed catching up on all my lost years of sleep."

"How long have you been a sergeant?"

Sergeant Saber sips his coffee and thinks. "I'd say a good twenty years."

"That doesn't seem so long."

"True, but I haven't got the caliber as I once did, Jennifer."

Jennifer takes her turn to sip and think. "Say, you going to keep in touch?"

Sergeant Saber smiles. "Of course. Out of all the partners I've had, I'd say you were the most reliable and hardworking officer I've ever met."

Jennifer turns away and blushes. "Sarge. Don't compliment me so hard. It's creepy. You know I'm married."

Sergeant Saber snickers and slaps his left thigh. "I'm just messing. You are a good officer though. Let's leave it at that," he yawns. "I wonder who'll take my place. Perhaps, Andy?"

Jennifer shivers. "Heavens I hope not."

"Now hold on, Andy is a great cop."

"But his humor is so...immature."

"He just doesn't get it yet. He's still a bit of a newbie. If you get him show him how to behave. Groom him...wait...uh..."

Jennifer laughs. "Wow, like that doesn't come off freaky."

The pair stare at one another and shake heads. They set their coffee cups down in the cup holders of their police car and see the sun has fully hit.

"Now all we do is wait," says Sergeant Saber.

***12 hours until Sergeant Saber retires***

"Come on! Get the money damn it!" The wolf with the red hood screams. "The police will be here any minute since you let that bitch trip the alarm!"

A coyote, wearing a green hood, stuffs cash in a sack from a bank vault. He stops to stare into the eyes of the wolf. The hatred in the air is high.

"Listen, shit head! I'm moving as fast as I can!" snaps the coyote. "Oh, F.Y.I., it's your fault we had to shoot the bitch that set off the alarm."

"And how is it my fault?" the wolf replies.

"You had to go and make her your personal suck and blow when I told you to keep an eye on her and make sure she didn't set off the alarm."

"I needed some release! I was stressed out!"

The coyote finishes getting together all the money. "Someone needs to see a sex therapist badly then."

"This is the police! We have you surrounded!" Sergeant Sabertooth calls out on his megaphone from his car.

"Shit! Grab a hostage and let's go!" the coyote snarls.

The coyote goes to a door that leads to the garage for the bank employees. The wolf sighs and examines all the hostages. He smiles at a female cheetah with double d's and is in business wear. The female cheetah trembles as he stares at her. The wolf grabs her by the wrist and she screams.

"Hey!" The wolf growls. "Make any noise and your life is done. Understand?"

The female cheetah nods. "I-I understand."

"Let's move it!" the coyote yells from inside the garage. "I've picked out a car."

The wolf takes the female cheetah into the garage. The pair hunker down behind a dark green sports car with black stripes. The coyote lifts up the garage door using the remote inside it. The cops reveal themselves.

"Now hold it ladies and gentleman," says the coyote. "We've got something that gives you no reason to kill us."

Sergeant Saber steps through the police to face the wolf. Their eyes meet.

"And what's that?" Sergeant Saber asks.

The wolf holds up the female cheetah. Sergeant Saber breathes in and exhales.

"Better let us go," says the wolf.

"Help me," says the female cheetah. "Please. Help me."

The wolf snickers. "Oh no girl, you're coming with us to our hideout. I could always use a new baby sack."

The female cheetah cries. "No! I'm too young for that!"

"So what's it going to be, cop?"

Sergeant Saber looks at his men and then at the three in front of him. He sighs.

"Let them go," says Sergeant Saber.

The female cheetah screams. "No! I don't want to spend my life mothering criminals babies!"

The three get into the sports car. They slowly pull out into the back lot. They start to speed off. They're heading for the hideout. They make it there in one piece. They take in their cash and the female cheetah. The wolf moves the female cheetah to a bed and throws her to it. The female cheetah turns to her left upon hearing the sound of a baby crying. She sees tied to a steel post is a lioness holding a baby that is half wolf and half lion. The female cheetah begins to sob.

"I don't want that. I don't want that," sobs the female cheetah.

The wolf comes over to the female cheetah and smiles. "Oh, but you will, and you'll come to love it just like her. Just see how happy that whore is."

The female cheetah is forced by the the wolf to see the lioness giggle and lift the baby to her left breast to suck. The female cheetah watches as the lioness hums softly.

"Now lay down and open yourself up," says the wolf.

The female cheetah lays down and spreads her legs. The wolf smiles. He moves a paw towards her panties and tears them off. There's a loud bang. The wolf turns his head and sees the hideout door fall down. All the cops from the bank are in view. The coyote readies his gun. He's shot. The wolf puts his hands up. Sergeant Saber steps in front of his fellow officers, smiling.

"Are you ok, Miss Mayor?" Sergeant Saber inquires.

The female cheetah grins. "Took you long enough, Saber."

"Wait! You two knew about me and my brother's hideout?" the wolf snaps.

"Yep, and I have to say, with what you got here and did at the bank, well, you should get life easy. Congrats."

"But my family! My wife! My baby!"

"They'll be well taken care of while you rot in a cell."

The wolf starts to head for a back door to his hideout. He's shot in the back. The wolf falls to the ground and dies. Sergeant Saber goes up to the female cheetah and sighs.

"Sorry about that, you sure you're ok?" Sergeant Saber inquires.

"Yes, I'm fine. Go get some rest. Have your men clean up. You're retiring, right?" the female cheetah inquires.

"I am."

"Then go rest. Come on. I'll buy you a drink on me."

***2 hours and 40 minuets until Sergeant Saber retires***

Sergeant Saber stops his cop car on the streets outside and stares at the G.T.C. building. I need to get in there and find Felicia. He thinks. I need to save my little girl. Sergeant Saber stares down at the journal that has the single initial 'D' on it. He turns to that page again. Those words won't let him move. Just then there's a the sound of a rifle blast from within the building.

"Felicia!" Sergeant Saber cries out.

Sergeant Saber takes off running, dropping the journal. He enters the building as students rush out with tears falling. Sergeant Saber stops at a security guard that's directing the students.

"Call 911! Tell them that Sergeant Saber is on the scene!" Sergeant Saber orders.

"Sir, we need to get everyone out of here!"

"Is there a team tracking the shooter?"

"Yes, but they got separated by the shooter's grenade. He caused a room collapse that made them have to take separate directions to regroup."

"Tell them to meet up. Is there any route the shooter hasn't thought of cutting off support for the cops?"

"The freight elevator in the kitchen."

"Ok, I'm going to take that up to the next level, but call 911."

Sergeant Saber takes off running. He moves to the kitchen and takes the freight elevator up to the next level. He looks around the level. There are dead students, staff members, security guards, and blood all over the floor. He hears weeping from his right. Sergeant Saber sees it's coming from within the boys restroom. He pulls out his handgun and enters. His heart jumps. Lying on the floor with a metal pipe shoved up his rear with blood falling out of his mouth is a male buff puma in greaser clothing.

"Hey, hey, don't cry," says Sergeant Saber. "My name's Sergeant Saber. I'm going to get you out of here."

"I don't want to die, but now, I'm can't even have kids," says male buff puma. "He smashed my junk. He made me black out a bit after shoving this metal pipe up my ass."

There's a click sound from behind Sergeant Saber. Sergeant Saber breathes in and exhales. He turns around to face a rifle held by a hyena wearing a bloodstained white t-shirt, black hiking boots and a backpack.

"Come on, we don't have to do this," says Sergeant Saber.

"I was just coming to check on my friend."

"Friend? You shoved a metal pipe up his ass and made it that he can't have children."

"He whipped me and pulled out some of my teeth so I can't eat right! He raped me in my ass until I got numb! Yeah! That's right! I'm the enemy!"

"You know, you're not good at sarcasm, right?"

"Just stand aside so I can put him out his misery!"

"Look, put the rifle down and we'll talk about this."

"Talk? You know why these things happen? It's because of demons like him! Like my father! It's all about others! You know nature v.s. nurture!"

Sergeant Saber sighs. "Look, I'm sorry about that, but, what you're doing won't fix your problems."

The hyena groans. "It doesn't matter anymore. I've killed my mom, my dad, and now all I have to do is kill this bastard and everything becomes full circle."

"What about my daughter? She loved you. Didn't that put out the anger inside?"

The hyena lowers his rifle. He looks away grumbling. Sergeant Saber puts a paw on the hyena's shoulder. The hyena becomes still. He turns to Sergeant Saber.

"Please, let me help you," says Sergeant Saber. "Let me and my daughter help you."

The hyena sighs. "No, it's over for me."

In a flash the hyena shoots Sergeant Saber and then himself. The hyena is dead. Sergeant Saber though is hanging in there. His death is coming slowly. The life he's lived as an officer, the good and the bad times, they all flash before his eyes. He smiles before taking his last breath.
